¹ Et Josaphat eut beaucoup de richesses et de gloire ; et il s'allia par mariage* avec Achab.
² Et au bout de quelques années,* il descendit vers Achab à Samarie ; et Achab tua** pour lui et pour le peuple qui était avec lui du menu et du gros bétail en abondance, et il le persuada de monter contre Ramoth de Galaad.
³ Et Achab, roi d'Israël, dit à Josaphat, roi de Juda : Viendras-tu avec moi à Ramoth de Galaad ? Et il lui dit : Moi, je suis comme toi, et mon peuple comme ton peuple ; et [je serai] avec toi dans la guerre.
⁴ Et Josaphat dit au roi d'Israël : Enquiers-toi aujourd'hui*, je te prie, de la parole de l'Éternel.
⁵ Et le roi d'Israël rassembla les prophètes, quatre cents hommes, et leur dit : Irons-nous à la guerre contre Ramoth de Galaad, ou m'en abstiendrai-je ? Et ils dirent : Monte ; et Dieu la livrera en la main du roi.
⁶ Et Josaphat dit : N'y a-t-il pas ici encore un prophète de l'Éternel, pour que nous nous enquérions auprès de lui ?
⁷ Et le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat : Il y a encore un homme, pour consulter l'Éternel par lui ; mais je le hais, car il ne prophétise pas du bien à mon égard, mais toujours du mal ; c'est Michée, fils de Jimla. Et Josaphat dit : Que le roi ne parle pas ainsi !
⁸ Et le roi d'Israël appela un eunuque, et dit : Fais promptement venir Michée, fils de Jimla.
⁹ Et le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, étaient assis chacun sur son trône, revêtus de leurs robes ; ils étaient assis sur une place ouverte à l'entrée de la porte de Samarie ; et tous les prophètes prophétisaient devant eux.
¹⁰ Et Sédécias, fils de Kenaana, se fit des cornes de fer, et dit : Ainsi dit l'Éternel : Avec celles-ci tu heurteras les Syriens jusqu'à les exterminer.
¹¹ Et tous les prophètes prophétisaient de même, disant : Monte à Ramoth de Galaad, et prospère ; et l'Éternel la livrera en la main du roi.
¹² Et le messager qui était allé pour appeler Michée lui parla, disant : Voici, les paroles des prophètes, d'une seule bouche, [annoncent] du bien au roi ; que ta parole donc soit, je te prie, comme celle de l'un d'eux, et annonce du bien.
¹³ Mais Michée dit : L'Éternel est vivant, que ce que mon Dieu dira, je l'annoncerai. Et il vint vers le roi.
¹⁴ Et le roi lui dit : Michée, irons-nous à la guerre à Ramoth de Galaad, ou m'en abstiendrai-je ? Et il dit : Montez et prospérez ; et ils seront livrés entre vos mains.
¹⁵ Et le roi lui dit : Combien de fois t'adjurerai-je de ne me dire que la vérité au nom de l'Éternel ?
¹⁶ Et [Michée] dit : J'ai vu tout Israël dispersé sur les montagnes comme un troupeau qui n'a pas de berger ; et l'Éternel a dit : Ceux-ci n'ont pas de seigneur ; qu'ils s'en retournent en paix chacun à sa maison.
¹⁷ Et le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat : Ne t'ai-je pas dit qu'il ne prophétise pas du bien à mon égard, mais du mal ?
¹⁸ Et [Michée] dit : C'est pourquoi, écoutez la parole de l'Éternel. J'ai vu l'Éternel assis sur son trône, et toute l'armée des cieux se tenant à sa droite et à sa gauche ;
¹⁹ et l'Éternel dit : Qui persuadera Achab, roi d'Israël, afin qu'il monte et qu'il tombe à Ramoth de Galaad ? Et on parla, celui-ci disant ainsi, et celui-là disant ainsi.
²⁰ Et un esprit sortit, et se tint devant l'Éternel, et dit : Moi, je le persuaderai. Et l'Éternel lui dit : Comment ?
²¹ Et il dit : Je sortirai, et je serai un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous ses prophètes. Et [l'Éternel] dit : Tu le persuaderas, et aussi tu réussiras : sors, et fais ainsi.
²² Et maintenant, voici, l'Éternel a mis un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tes prophètes que voilà, et l'Éternel a prononcé du mal à ton sujet.
²³ Et Sédécias, fils de Kenaana, s'approcha et frappa Michée sur la joue, et dit : Par quel chemin a passé l'Esprit de l'Éternel, d'avec moi, pour te parler ?
²⁴ Et Michée dit : Voici, tu le verras ce jour-là, quand tu iras de chambre en chambre pour te cacher.
²⁵ Et le roi d'Israël dit : Prenez Michée, et emmenez-le à Amon, chef de la ville, et à Joas, fils du roi ;
²⁶ et vous direz : Ainsi dit le roi : Mettez cet [homme] en prison, et donnez-lui à manger le pain d'affliction et l'eau d'affliction, jusqu'à ce que je revienne en paix.
²⁷ Et Michée dit : Si jamais tu reviens en paix, l'Éternel n'a point parlé par moi. Et il dit : Peuples, entendez-le tous !
²⁸ Et le roi d'Israël monta, et Josaphat, roi de Juda, à Ramoth de Galaad.
²⁹ Et le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat : Je me déguiserai, et j'irai à la bataille ; mais toi, revêts-toi de tes robes. Et le roi d'Israël se déguisa, et ils allèrent à la bataille.
³⁰ Et le roi de Syrie commanda aux chefs de ses chars, disant : Ne combattez ni contre petit, ni contre grand, mais contre le roi d'Israël seul.
³¹ Et il arriva que, quand les chefs des chars virent Josaphat, ils dirent : C'est le roi d'Israël. Et ils l'entourèrent pour combattre contre lui. Et Josaphat cria, et l'Éternel le secourut ; et Dieu les porta [à s'éloigner] de lui.
³² Et il arriva que, lorsque les chefs des chars virent que ce n'était pas le roi d'Israël, ils s'en revinrent de sa poursuite.
³³ Et un homme tira de l'arc à l'aventure et frappa le roi d'Israël entre les pièces d'attache et la cuirasse ; et [Achab] dit au conducteur du char : Tourne ta main, et mène-moi hors de l'armée, car je suis blessé.
³⁴ Et la bataille se renforça ce jour-là, et le roi d'Israël se soutint sur [son] char, vis-à-vis des Syriens, jusqu'au soir ; et il mourut vers le temps où le soleil se couchait.

¹ Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance, and joined affinity with Ahab.
² And after certain years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. And Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that he had with him, and persuaded him to go up with him to Ramothgilead.
³ And Ahab king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat king of Judah, Wilt thou go with me to Ramothgilead? And he answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people; and we will be with thee in the war.
⁴ And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.
⁵ Therefore the king of Israel gathered together of prophets four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for God will deliver it into the king's hand.
⁶ But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might enquire of him?
⁷ And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, by whom we may enquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he never prophesied good unto me, but always evil: the same is Micaiah the son of Imla. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
⁸ And the king of Israel called for one of his officers, and said, Fetch quickly Micaiah the son of Imla.
⁹ And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah sat either of them on his throne, clothed in their robes, and they sat in a void place at the entering in of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.
¹⁰ And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah had made him horns of iron, and said, Thus saith the LORD, With these thou shalt push Syria until they be consumed.
¹¹ And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramothgilead, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
¹² And the messenger that went to call Micaiah spake to him, saying, Behold, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one assent; let thy word therefore, I pray thee, be like one of their's, and speak thou good.
¹³ And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, even what my God saith, that will I speak.
¹⁴ And when he was come to the king, the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And he said, Go ye up, and prosper, and they shall be delivered into your hand.
¹⁵ And the king said to him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou say nothing but the truth to me in the name of the LORD?
¹⁶ Then he said, I did see all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master; let them return therefore every man to his house in peace.
¹⁷ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would not prophesy good unto me, but evil?
¹⁸ Again he said, Therefore hear the word of the LORD; I saw the LORD sitting upon his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left.
¹⁹ And the LORD said, Who shall entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one spake saying after this manner, and another saying after that manner.
²⁰ Then there came out a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will entice him. And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith?
²¹ And he said, I will go out, and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And the Lord said, Thou shalt entice him, and thou shalt also prevail: go out, and do even so.
²² Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil against thee.
²³ Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah upon the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?
²⁴ And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see on that day when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.
²⁵ Then the king of Israel said, Take ye Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son;
²⁶ And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in peace.
²⁷ And Micaiah said, If thou certainly return in peace, then hath not the LORD spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, all ye people.
²⁸ So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramothgilead.
²⁹ And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and I will go to the battle; but put thou on thy robes. So the king of Israel disguised himself; and they went to the battle.
³⁰ Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of the chariots that were with him, saying, Fight ye not with small or great, save only with the king of Israel.
³¹ And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, It is the king of Israel. Therefore they compassed about him to fight: but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him; and God moved them to depart from him.
³² For it came to pass, that, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back again from pursuing him.
³³ And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: therefore he said to his chariot man, Turn thine hand, that thou mayest carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
³⁴ And the battle increased that day: howbeit the king of Israel stayed himself up in his chariot against the Syrians until the even: and about the time of the sun going down he died.

Achab méprisant la Prophétie de Michée mourut en bataille.

³ Car Achab, Roi d'Israël, dit à Josaphat Roi de Juda : Ne viendras-tu pas avec moi contre Ramoth de Galaad ? Et il lui [répondit] : Compte sur moi comme sur toi, et sur mon peuple comme sur ton peuple ; [nous irons] avec toi à cette guerre.
⁴ Josaphat dit aussi au Roi d'Israël : Je te prie qu'aujourd'hui tu t'enquières de la parole de l'Eternel.
⁵ Et le Roi d'Israël assembla quatre cents Prophètes, auxquels il dit : Irons-nous à la guerre contre Ramoth de Galaad, ou m'en désisterai-je ? Et ils répondirent : Monte ; car Dieu la livrera entre les mains du Roi.

⁷ Et le Roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat : Il y a encore un homme par lequel on peut s'enquérir de l'Eternel, mais je le hais, parce qu'il ne prophétise rien de bon, quand il est question de moi, mais toujours du mal ; c'est Michée fils de Jimla. Et Josaphat dit : Que le Roi ne parle point ainsi.

⁹ Or le Roi d'Israël et Josaphat Roi de Juda, étaient assis chacun sur son trône, revêtus de leurs habits ; ils étaient assis en la place vers l'entrée de la porte de Samarie, et tous les Prophètes prophétisaient en leur présence.
¹⁰ Alors Tsidkija fils de Kénahana s'étant fait des cornes de fer, dit : Ainsi a dit l'Eternel, tu heurteras avec ces cornes les Syriens, jusqu'à les détruire entièrement.
¹¹ Et tous les Prophètes prophétisaient la même chose, en disant : Monte à Ramoth de Galaad, et tu prospéreras, et l'Eternel la livrera entre les mains du Roi.
¹² Or le messager qui était allé appeler Michée, lui parla, en disant : Voici, les Prophètes prédisent tous d'une voix du bonheur au Roi, je te prie donc que ta parole soit semblable à celle de l'un d'eux, et prophétise-lui du bonheur.
¹³ Mais Michée répondit : L'Eternel est vivant, que je dirai ce que mon Dieu dira.
¹⁴ Il vint donc vers le Roi ; et le Roi lui dit : Michée, irons-nous à la guerre contre Ramoth de Galaad, ou m'en désisterai-je ? Et il répondit : Montez, et vous prospérerez, et ils seront livrés entre vos mains.
¹⁵ Et le Roi lui dit : Jusqu'à combien de fois t'adjurerai-je que tu ne me dises que la vérité au Nom de l'Eternel ?
¹⁶ Et [Michée] répondit : J'ai vu tout Israël dispersé par les montagnes, comme un troupeau de brebis qui n'a point de pasteur ; et l'Eternel a dit : Ceux-ci sont sans Seigneurs ; que chacun s'en retourne dans sa maison en paix.
¹⁷ Alors le Roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat : Ne t'ai-je pas bien dit qu'il ne prophétise rien de bon, quand il est question de moi, mais du mal ?
¹⁸ Et [Michée] dit : Ecoutez pourtant la parole de l'Eternel. J'ai vu l'Eternel assis sur son trône, et toute l'armée des cieux se tenant à sa droite et à sa gauche.
¹⁹ Et l'Eternel a dit : Qui est-ce qui induira Achab Roi d'Israël à monter, afin qu'il tombe en Ramoth de Galaad ? et il ajouta : L'un dit d'une manière, et l'autre d'une autre.
²⁰ Alors un esprit s'avança, et se tint devant l'Eternel, et dit : Je l'y induirai. Et l'Eternel lui dit : Comment ?
²¹ Et il répondit : Je sortirai et je serai un esprit de mensonge en la bouche de tous ses Prophètes. Et [l'Eternel] dit : [Oui] tu l'induiras, et même tu en viendras à bout, sors et fais-le ainsi.
²² Maintenant donc voici, l'Eternel a mis un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tes Prophètes, et l'Eternel a prononcé du mal contre toi.
²³ Alors Tsidkija fils de Kénahana s'approcha, et frappa Michée sur la joue, et lui dit : Par quel chemin l'esprit de l'Eternel s'est-il retiré de moi pour te parler ?
²⁴ Et Michée répondit : Voici, tu le verras le jour que tu iras de chambre en chambre pour te cacher.
²⁵ Alors le Roi d'Israël dit : Qu'on prenne Michée, et qu'on le mène à Amon, capitaine de la ville, et vers Joas fils du Roi ;
²⁶ Et qu'on leur dise : Ainsi a dit le Roi : Mettez cet homme en prison, et ne lui donnez qu'un peu de pain à manger et un peu d'eau [à boire], jusqu'à ce que je retourne en paix.
²⁷ Et Michée répondit : Si jamais tu retournes en paix, l'Eternel n'aura point parlé par moi. Il dit encore : Entendez cela peuples, vous tous qui êtes ici.
²⁸ Le Roi d'Israël donc monta avec Josaphat Roi de Juda, contre Ramoth de Galaad.
²⁹ Et le Roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat : Que je me déguise, et que j'aille à la bataille ; mais toi, vêts-toi de tes habits. Le Roi d'Israël donc se déguisa, et ils allèrent ainsi à la bataille.
³⁰ Or le Roi des Syriens avait commandé aux capitaines de ses chariots, en disant : Vous ne combattrez contre personne que contre le Roi d'Israël.
³¹ Il arriva donc qu'aussitôt que les capitaines des chariots eurent vu Josaphat, ils dirent : C'est ici le Roi d'Israël ; et ils l'environnèrent pour le combattre. Mais Josaphat s'écria, et l'Eternel le secourut ; et Dieu les porta à s'éloigner de lui.32 Or dès que les capitaines des chariots eurent vu que ce n'était point le Roi d'Israël, ils se détournèrent de lui.
³³ Alors quelqu'un tira de son arc de toute sa force ; et il frappa le Roi d'Israël entre les tassettes et le harnois ; et [le Roi] dit à son cocher : Tourne ta main, et mène-moi hors du camp ; car on m'a fort blessé.
³⁴ Il y eut en ce jour-là un très rude combat, et le Roi d'Israël demeura dans son chariot, vis-à-vis des Syriens, jusqu'au soir, et il mourut vers le temps que le soleil se couchait.
