¹ Et tout Israël se rassembla vers David à Hébron, disant : Voici, nous sommes ton os et ta chair.
² Et autrefois, quand aussi Saül était roi, c'était toi qui faisais sortir et qui faisais entrer Israël ; et l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'a dit : Tu paîtras mon peuple Israël, et tu seras prince sur mon peuple Israël.
³ Et tous les anciens d'Israël vinrent vers le roi à Hébron ; et David fit alliance avec eux à Hébron, devant l'Éternel ; et ils oignirent David pour roi sur Israël, selon la parole de l'Éternel par Samuel.
⁴ Et David et tous ceux d'Israël s'en allèrent à Jérusalem, qui est Jébus ; et là étaient les Jébusiens, habitants du pays.
⁵ Et les habitants de Jébus dirent à David : Tu n'entreras point ici. Mais David prit la forteresse de Sion : c'est la ville de David.
⁶ Et David dit : Quiconque frappera le premier les Jébusiens, sera chef et capitaine. Et Joab, fils de Tseruïa, monta le premier, et fut chef.
⁷ Et David habita dans la forteresse ; c'est pourquoi on l'appela ville de David.
⁸ Et il bâtit la ville tout à l'entour, depuis Millo*, et tout autour ;
⁹ et Joab releva le reste de la ville. Et David allait grandissant de plus en plus ; et l'Éternel des armées était avec lui.
¹⁰ Et ce sont ici les chefs des hommes forts que David avait, qui se fortifièrent dans son royaume avec lui, avec tout Israël, pour le faire roi, selon la parole de l'Éternel touchant Israël.
¹¹ Et voici le nombre des hommes forts que David avait : Jashobham, fils de Hacmoni, chef des principaux capitaines* ; il leva sa lance contre trois cents hommes qu'il tua en une fois.
¹² Et après lui, Éléazar, fils de Dodo, l'Akhokhite : il était l'un des trois hommes forts.
¹³ Il fut avec David à Pas-Dammim ; et les Philistins s'étaient assemblés là pour combattre ; et il y avait une portion de champ pleine d'orge, et le peuple avait fui devant les Philistins.
¹⁴ Et ils se placèrent au milieu du champ*, et le sauvèrent, et frappèrent les Philistins ; et l'Éternel opéra** une grande délivrance.
¹⁵ Et trois des trente chefs descendirent au rocher, vers David, dans la caverne d'Adullam, comme l'armée des Philistins était campée dans la vallée des Rephaïm.
¹⁶ Et David était alors dans le lieu fort, et il y avait alors un poste des Philistins à Bethléhem.
¹⁷ Et David convoita, et dit : Qui me fera boire de l'eau du puits de Bethléhem, qui est près de la porte ?
¹⁸ Et les trois forcèrent le passage à travers le camp des Philistins, et puisèrent de l'eau du puits de Bethléhem, qui est près de la porte, et la prirent et l'apportèrent à David ; et David ne voulut pas la boire, mais il en fit une libation à l'Éternel.
¹⁹ Et il dit : Loin de moi, par mon Dieu, que je fasse cela ! Boirais-je le sang de ces hommes [qui sont allés] au péril de leur vie ? Car c'est au péril de leur vie qu'ils l'ont apportée. Et il ne voulut pas la boire. Ces trois hommes forts firent cela.
²⁰ Et Abishaï, frère de Joab, était chef de trois ; il leva sa lance contre trois cents hommes, qu'il tua. Et il eut un nom parmi les trois :
²¹ entre les trois il fut honoré à côté des deux, et il fut leur chef ; mais il n'atteignit pas les trois [premiers].
²² Benaïa, fils de Jehoïada, fils d'un homme vaillant, de Kabtseël, grand en exploits, lui, frappa deux lions* de Moab ; et il descendit, et frappa le lion dans une fosse, par un jour de neige.
²³ Et c'est lui qui frappa l'homme égyptien, dont la stature était de cinq coudées ; et l'Égyptien avait en sa main une lance [qui était] comme l'ensouple des tisserands ; et il descendit vers lui avec un bâton, et arracha la lance de la main de l'Égyptien, et le tua avec sa propre lance.
²⁴ Voici ce que fit Benaïa, fils de Jehoïada ; et il eut un nom parmi les trois hommes forts :
²⁵ voici, il fut plus honoré que les trente, mais il n'atteignit pas les trois [premiers]. Et David lui donna une place dans ses audiences privées.
²⁶ Et les hommes vaillants de l'armée étaient : Asçaël, frère de Joab ; Elkhanan, fils de Dodo, de Bethléhem ;
²⁷ Shammoth, le Harorite ; Hélets, le Pelonite ;
²⁸ Ira, fils d'Ikkesh, le Thekohite ; Abiézer, l'Anathothite ;

¹ Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.
² And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel.
³ Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the LORD; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD by Samuel.
⁴ And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus; where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land.
⁵ And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come hither. Nevertheless David took the castle of Zion, which is the city of David.
⁶ And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.
⁷ And David dwelt in the castle; therefore they called it the city of David.
⁸ And he built the city round about, even from Millo round about: and Joab repaired the rest of the city.
⁹ So David waxed greater and greater: for the LORD of hosts was with him.
¹⁰ These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel.
¹¹ And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had; Jashobeam, an Hachmonite, the chief of the captains: he lifted up his spear against three hundred slain by him at one time.
¹² And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighties.
¹³ He was with David at Pasdammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where was a parcel of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines.
¹⁴ And they set themselves in the midst of that parcel, and delivered it, and slew the Philistines; and the LORD saved them by a great deliverance.
¹⁵ Now three of the thirty captains went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the host of the Philistines encamped in the valley of Rephaim.
¹⁶ And David was then in the hold, and the Philistines' garrison was then at Bethlehem.
¹⁷ And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate!
¹⁸ And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the LORD.
¹⁹ And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.
²⁰ And Abishai the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three: for lifting up his spear against three hundred, he slew them, and had a name among the three.
²¹ Of the three, he was more honourable than the two; for he was their captain: howbeit he attained not to the first three.
²² Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done many acts; he slew two lionlike men of Moab: also he went down and slew a lion in a pit in a snowy day.
²³ And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian's hand was a spear like a weaver's beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear.
²⁴ These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among the three mighties.
²⁵ Behold, he was honourable among the thirty, but attained not to the first three: and David set him over his guard.
²⁶ Also the valiant men of the armies were, Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,
²⁷ Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the Pelonite,
²⁸ Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, Abiezer the Antothite,
²⁹ Sibbecai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite,
³⁰ Maharai the Netophathite, Heled the son of Baanah the Netophathite,
³¹ Ithai the son of Ribai of Gibeah, that pertained to the children of Benjamin, Benaiah the Pirathonite,

Les vaillants hommes de David

¹ Tout Israël se rassembla vers David à Hébron en disant: «Nous sommes faits des mêmes os et de la même chair que toi.
² Auparavant déjà, même lorsque Saül était roi, c'était toi qui faisais partir Israël en campagne et qui l'en faisais revenir. L'Eternel, ton Dieu, t'a dit: ‘*C'est toi qui prendras soin de mon peuple, Israël, et qui deviendras son chef.'»
³ Ainsi, tous les anciens d'Israël vinrent trouver le roi à Hébron et là, David fit alliance avec eux devant l'Eternel. Ils consacrèrent par onction David comme roi sur Israël, conformément à la parole de l'Eternel transmise par Samuel.
⁴ David marcha avec tout Israël sur Jérusalem, c'est-à-dire Jébus. Là se trouvaient les Jébusiens, qui habitaient le pays.
⁵ Les habitants de Jébus dirent à David: «Tu n'entreras pas ici.» David s'empara néanmoins de la forteresse de Sion, c'est-à-dire la ville de David.
⁶ David avait dit: «Le premier qui battra les Jébusiens deviendra un chef et un prince.» Joab, fils de Tseruja, fut le premier à monter à l'attaque et il devint un chef.
⁷ David s'installa dans la forteresse; c'est pourquoi on l'a appelée ville de David.
⁸ Il fit des constructions tout autour de la ville, à partir de la terrasse de Millo et tout autour, tandis que Joab réparait le reste de la ville.
⁹ David devenait de plus en plus puissant et l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers, était avec lui.
¹⁰ Voici les chefs des vaillants hommes qui étaient au service de David et qui, avec tout Israël, le soutinrent dans son accession à la royauté pour qu'il règne conformément à la parole de l'Eternel au sujet d'Israël.
¹¹ Voici la liste des vaillants hommes qui étaient au service de David.Jashobeam, fils de Hacmoni, était le chef des officiers. Il brandit sa lance sur 300 hommes qu'il tua en une seule fois.
¹² Après lui figurait Eléazar, fils de Dodo, l'Achochite. Il était l'un des trois guerriers.
¹³ C'est lui qui était avec David à Pas-Dammim lorsque les Philistins s'y étaient rassemblés pour le combat. Il y avait là une parcelle de terre couverte d'orge et le peuple avait pris la fuite devant les Philistins.
¹⁴ Ces trois guerriers se postèrent au milieu du champ et le protégèrent. Ils battirent les Philistins et l'Eternel accorda une grande délivrance.

¹⁶ David était alors dans la forteresse et il y avait une garnison de Philistins à Bethléhem.
¹⁷ Pris d'un soudain désir, David demanda: «Qui me fera boire de l'eau de la citerne qui se trouve à la porte de Bethléhem?»
¹⁸ Alors ces trois hommes pénétrèrent de force dans le camp des Philistins et puisèrent de l'eau dans la citerne qui se trouve à la porte de Bethléhem. Puis ils l'apportèrent et la présentèrent à David, mais il refusa de la boire et il la versa comme une offrande à l'Eternel.
¹⁹ Il dit: «Que mon Dieu me garde de faire cela! Pourrais-je boire le sang de ces hommes qui sont partis au péril de leur vie? Oui, c'est au péril de leur vie qu'ils l'ont apportée.» Et il refusa de la boire. Voilà ce que firent ces trois vaillants hommes.

²⁴ Voilà ce que fit Benaja, fils de Jehojada. Il eut une grande réputation parmi les trois vaillants hommes.
²⁵ Il était le plus considéré des trente, mais il n'égala pas les trois premiers. David l'admit dans sa garde personnelle.

¹ Congregatus est igitur omnis Israël ad David in Hebron, dicens : Os tuum sumus, et caro tua.
² Heri quoque et nudiustertius cum adhuc regnaret Saul, tu eras qui educebas et introducebas Israël : tibi enim dixit Dominus Deus tuus : Tu pasces populum meum Israël, et tu eris princeps super eum.
