¹ Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
² For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
³ For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
⁴ For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
⁵ And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
⁶ Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
⁷ Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
⁸ For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
⁹ There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
¹⁰ For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
¹¹ Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
¹² For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
¹³ Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
¹⁴ Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
¹⁵ For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
¹⁶ Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

¹ Redoutons donc, alors que la promesse d'entrer dans son repos reste valable, que l'un de vous ne semble être resté en arrière.
² En effet, cette bonne nouvelle nous a été annoncée aussi bien qu'à eux, mais la parole qu'ils ont entendue ne leur a servi à rien parce qu'ils n'étaient pas unis dans la foi à ceux qui ont écouté.
³ Quant à nous qui avons cru, nous entrons dans le repos, dans la mesure où Dieu a dit: J'ai juré dans ma colère: ‘Ils n'entreront pas dans mon repos!' Pourtant, son travail était terminé depuis la création du monde.
⁴ En effet, il a parlé quelque part ainsi au sujet du septième jour: Et Dieu se reposa de toute son activité le septième jour. 
⁵ Et dans ce passage il dit encore: Ils n'entreront pas dans mon repos!
⁶ Ainsi, certains ont encore la possibilité d'y entrer, et les premiers à recevoir cette bonne nouvelle n'ont pas accédé au repos à cause de leur désobéissance.
⁷ C'est pourquoi Dieu fixe de nouveau un jour – aujourd'hui – en disant bien longtemps après par David cette parole déjà citée: Aujourd'hui, si vous entendez sa voix, n'endurcissez pas votre cœur. 
⁸ Si Josué leur avait effectivement donné le repos, Dieu ne parlerait pas après cela d'un autre jour.
⁹ Il reste donc un repos de sabbat pour le peuple de Dieu.
¹⁰ En effet, celui qui entre dans le repos de Dieu se repose lui aussi de son activité, tout comme Dieu s'est reposé de la sienne.
¹¹ Empressons-nous donc d'entrer dans ce repos afin que personne ne tombe en donnant le même exemple de désobéissance.
¹² En effet, la parole de Dieu est vivante et efficace, plus tranchante que toute épée à deux tranchants, pénétrante jusqu'à séparer âme et esprit, jointures et moelles; elle juge les sentiments et les pensées du cœur.
¹³ Aucune créature n'est cachée devant lui: tout est nu et découvert aux yeux de celui à qui nous devons rendre compte.

¹⁴ Ainsi, puisque nous avons un souverain grand-prêtre qui a traversé le ciel, Jésus, le Fils de Dieu, restons fermement attachés à la foi que nous professons.
¹⁵ En effet, nous n'avons pas un grand-prêtre incapable de compatir à nos faiblesses; au contraire, il a été tenté en tout point comme nous, mais sans commettre de péché.
¹⁶ Approchons-nous donc avec assurance du trône de la grâce afin d'obtenir compassion et de trouver grâce pour être secourus au moment opportun.
