¹ And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not.
² And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.
³ Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.
⁴ And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them, Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp.
⁵ So they went near, and carried them in their coats out of the camp; as Moses had said.
⁶ And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the LORD hath kindled.
⁷ And ye shall not go out from the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: for the anointing oil of the LORD is upon you. And they did according to the word of Moses.
⁸ And the LORD spake unto Aaron, saying,
⁹ Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations:
¹⁰ And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean;
¹¹ And that ye may teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the LORD hath spoken unto them by the hand of Moses.
¹² And Moses spake unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons that were left, Take the meat offering that remaineth of the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and eat it without leaven beside the altar: for it is most holy:
¹³ And ye shall eat it in the holy place, because it is thy due, and thy sons' due, of the sacrifices of the LORD made by fire: for so I am commanded.
¹⁴ And the wave breast and heave shoulder shall ye eat in a clean place; thou, and thy sons, and thy daughters with thee: for they be thy due, and thy sons' due, which are given out of the sacrifices of peace offerings of the children of Israel.
¹⁵ The heave shoulder and the wave breast shall they bring with the offerings made by fire of the fat, to wave it for a wave offering before the LORD; and it shall be thine, and thy sons' with thee, by a statute for ever; as the LORD hath commanded.
¹⁶ And Moses diligently sought the goat of the sin offering, and, behold, it was burnt: and he was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar, the sons of Aaron which were left alive, saying,
¹⁷ Wherefore have ye not eaten the sin offering in the holy place, seeing it is most holy, and God hath given it you to bear the iniquity of the congregation, to make atonement for them before the LORD?
¹⁸ Behold, the blood of it was not brought in within the holy place: ye should indeed have eaten it in the holy place, as I commanded.
¹⁹ And Aaron said unto Moses, Behold, this day have they offered their sin offering and their burnt offering before the LORD; and such things have befallen me: and if I had eaten the sin offering to day, should it have been accepted in the sight of the LORD?
²⁰ And when Moses heard that, he was content.

Lv 10 (Ostervald)

¹ Or les fils d'Aaron, Nadab et Abihu, prirent chacun leur encensoir, y mirent du feu, posèrent du parfum dessus, et offrirent devant l'Éternel un feu étranger; ce qu'il ne leur avait point commandé.
² Et un feu sortit de devant l'Éternel, et les dévora, et ils moururent devant l'Éternel.
³ Alors Moïse dit à Aaron: C'est ce dont l'Éternel a parlé, en disant: Je serai sanctifié par ceux qui s'approchent de moi, et je serai glorifié en présence de tout le peuple. Et Aaron se tut.
⁴ Et Moïse appela Mishaël et Eltsaphan, fils d'Uziel, oncle d'Aaron, et leur dit: Approchez-vous, emportez vos frères de devant le sanctuaire, hors du camp.
⁵ Ils s'approchèrent donc, et les emportèrent dans leurs tuniques hors du camp, comme Moïse l'avait dit.
⁶ Puis Moïse dit à Aaron, et à Éléazar et à Ithamar, ses fils: Ne découvrez point vos têtes, et ne déchirez point vos vêtements, de peur que vous ne mouriez, et que l'Éternel ne se courrouce contre toute l'assemblée; mais que vos frères, toute la maison d'Israël, pleurent à cause de l'embrasement que l'Éternel a allumé.
⁷ Et ne sortez pas de l'entrée du tabernacle d'assignation, de peur que vous ne mouriez; car l'huile de l'onction de l'Éternel est sur vous. Et ils firent selon la parole de Moïse.
⁸ Puis l'Éternel parla à Aaron, en disant:
⁹ Tu ne boiras ni vin ni boisson enivrante, toi et tes fils avec toi, quand vous entrerez dans le tabernacle d'assignation, de peur que vous ne mouriez; c'est une ordonnance perpétuelle dans vos générations,
¹⁰ Afin que vous puissiez discerner entre ce qui est saint et ce qui est profane, entre ce qui est souillé et ce qui est pur,
¹¹ Et enseigner aux enfants d'Israël toutes les ordonnances que l'Éternel leur a prescrites par Moïse.
¹² Et Moïse dit à Aaron, et à Éléazar et à Ithamar, les fils qui lui restaient: Prenez le reste de l'offrande des sacrifices faits par le feu à l'Éternel, et mangez-le sans levain près de l'autel; car c'est une chose très sainte.
¹³ Vous le mangerez dans un lieu saint, car c'est ton droit et le droit de tes fils, sur les sacrifices faits par le feu à l'Éternel; car cela m'a été ainsi commandé.
¹⁴ Quant à la poitrine offerte par agitation et à la jambe présentée par élévation, vous les mangerez dans un lieu pur, toi, tes fils, et tes filles avec toi; car elles vous sont données comme ton droit et le droit de tes fils, dans les sacrifices de prospérités des enfants d'Israël.
¹⁵ On apportera avec les sacrifices des graisses faits par le feu, la jambe présentée par élévation et la poitrine offerte par agitation, pour les agiter en offrande devant l'Éternel; et cela t'appartiendra, et à tes fils avec toi, par une loi perpétuelle, comme l'Éternel l'a commandé.
¹⁶ Or Moïse cherchait le bouc du sacrifice pour le péché; et voici, il avait été brûlé. Alors il se courrouça contre Éléazar et Ithamar, les fils qui restaient à Aaron, et leur dit:
¹⁷ Pourquoi n'avez-vous pas mangé le sacrifice pour le péché dans le lieu saint? car c'est une chose très sainte, et l'Éternel vous l'a donné pour porter l'iniquité de l'assemblée, pour faire l'expiation pour elle devant l'Éternel.
¹⁸ Voici, son sang n'a point été porté dans l'intérieur du sanctuaire; vous deviez manger le sacrifice dans le sanctuaire, comme je l'ai commandé.
¹⁹ Mais Aaron dit à Moïse: Voici, ils ont offert aujourd'hui leur sacrifice pour le péché, et leur holocauste devant l' Éternel; et après ce qui m'est arrivé, si j'eusse mangé aujourd'hui le sacrifice pour le péché, cela eût-il plu à l'Éternel
²⁰ Et Moïse, l'ayant entendu, approuva.

¹ Arreptisque Nadab et Abiu filii Aaron thuribulis, posuerunt ignem, et incensum desuper, offerentes coram Domino ignem alienum : quod eis præceptum non erat.
² Egressusque ignis a Domino, devoravit eos, et mortui sunt coram Domino.
³ Dixitque Moyses ad Aaron : Hoc est quod locutus est Dominus : Sanctificabor in iis qui appropinquant mihi, et in conspectu omnis populi glorificabor. Quod audiens tacuit Aaron.
⁴ Vocatis autem Moyses Misaële et Elisaphan filiis Oziel, patrui Aaron, ait ad eos : Ite, et tollite fratres vestros de conspectu sanctuarii, et asportate extra castra.
⁵ Confestimque pergentes, tulerunt eos sicut jacebant, vestitos lineis tunicis, et ejecerunt foras, ut sibi fuerat imperatum.
⁶ Locutusque est Moyses ad Aaron, et ad Eleazar, et Ithamar, filios ejus : Capita vestra nolite nudare, et vestimenta nolite scindere, ne forte moriamini, et super omnem cœtum oriatur indignatio. Fratres vestri, et omnis domus Israël, plangant incendium quod Dominus suscitavit :
⁷ vos autem non egrediemini fores tabernaculi, alioquin peribitis : oleum quippe sanctæ unctionis est super vos. Qui fecerunt omnia juxta præceptum Moysi.
⁸ Dixit quoque Dominus ad Aaron :
⁹ Vinum, et omne quod inebriare potest, non bibetis tu et filii tui, quando intratis in tabernaculum testimonii, ne moriamini : quia præceptum sempiternum est in generationes vestras :
¹⁰ et ut habeatis scientiam discernendi inter sanctum et profanum, inter pollutum et mundum ;
¹¹ doceatisque filios Israël omnia legitima mea quæ locutus est Dominus ad eos per manum Moysi.
¹² Locutusque est Moyses ad Aaron, et ad Eleazar, et Ithamar, filios ejus, qui erant residui : Tollite sacrificium, quod remansit de oblatione Domini, et comedite illud absque fermento juxta altare, quia Sanctum sanctorum est.
¹³ Comedetis autem in loco sancto : quod datum est tibi et filiis tuis de oblationibus Domini, sicut præceptum est mihi.
¹⁴ Pectusculum quoque quod oblatum est, et armum qui separatus est, edetis in loco mundissimo tu et filii tui, et filiæ tuæ tecum : tibi enim ac liberis tuis reposita sunt de hostiis salutaribus filiorum Israël :
¹⁵ eo quod armum et pectus, et adipes qui cremantur in altari, elevaverunt coram Domino, et pertineant ad te, et ad filios tuos, lege perpetua, sicut præcepit Dominus.
¹⁶ Inter hæc, hircum, qui oblatus fuerat pro peccato, cum quæreret Moyses, exustum reperit : iratusque contra Eleazar et Ithamar filios Aaron, qui remanserant, ait :
¹⁷ Cur non comedistis hostiam pro peccato in loco sancto, quæ Sancta sanctorum est, et data vobis ut portetis iniquitatem multitudinis, et rogetis pro ea in conspectu Domini,
¹⁸ præsertim cum de sanguine illius non sit illatum intra sancta, et comedere debueritis eam in Sanctuario, sicut præceptum est mihi ?
¹⁹ Respondit Aaron : Oblata est hodie victima pro peccato, et holocaustum coram Domino : mihi autem accidit quod vides ; quomodo potui comedere eam, aut placere Domino in cæremoniis mente lugubri ?
²⁰ Quod cum audisset Moyses, recepit satisfactionem.
