   ¹ Et étant entré dans Jéricho, il traversait la ville. ² Et voici, un homme appelé Zachée, qui était chef des péagers, et qui était riche, ³ cherchait à voir qui était Jésus, et il ne le pouvait pas à cause de la foule, parce qu'il était de petite taille. ⁴ Et il courut en avant et monta sur un sycomore pour le voir, parce qu'il devait passer par là. ⁵ Et quand Jésus fut arrivé en cet endroit, ayant levé les yeux il lui dit : Zachée, hâte-toi de descendre ; car aujourd'hui il faut que je demeure dans ta maison. ⁶ Et il descendit à la hâte et le reçut avec joie. ⁷ Et tous, voyant cela, murmuraient, disant : Il est entré pour loger chez un homme pécheur ! ⁸ Mais Zachée, se tenant debout, dit au Seigneur : Voici, Seigneur, je donne la moitié de mes biens aux pauvres, et si j'ai fait tort à quelqu'un en quelque chose, je lui en rends quatre fois autant. ⁹ Alors Jésus lui dit : Aujourd'hui le salut est venu pour cette maison, parce que lui aussi est un fils d'Abraham. ¹⁰ Car le fils de l'homme est venu chercher et sauver ce qui est perdu.
   ¹¹ Or, comme ils écoutaient ces choses, Jésus, continuant, dit une parabole, parce qu'il était près de Jérusalem, et qu'eux s'imaginaient que le royaume de Dieu allait paraître à l'instant. ¹² Il dit donc : Un homme de haute naissance s'en alla dans un pays éloigné, pour être investi de la royauté et revenir. ¹³ Or, ayant appelé dix de ses serviteurs, il leur donna dix mines, et leur dit : Faites-les valoir jusqu'à ce que je revienne. ¹⁴ Mais ses concitoyens le haïssaient ; et ils envoyèrent après lui une députation pour dire : Nous ne voulons pas que celui-ci règne sur nous. ¹⁵ Et il arriva, lorsqu'il revint après avoir été investi de la royauté, qu'il fit appeler auprès de lui ces serviteurs auxquels il avait donné l'argent, afin de connaître combien chacun l'avait fait valoir. ¹⁶ Et le premier se présenta, disant : Seigneur, ta mine a produit dix mines. ¹⁷ Et il lui dit : Bien, bon serviteur, parce que tu as été fidèle dans la moindre chose, aie autorité sur dix villes. ¹⁸ Et le second vint, disant : Seigneur, ta mine a produit cinq mines. ¹⁹ Et il dit aussi à celui-ci : Et toi, sois établi sur cinq villes. ²⁰ Et l'autre vint, disant : Seigneur, voici ta mine, que je tenais réservée dans un linge ; ²¹ car je te craignais, parce que tu es un homme sévère ; tu prends ce que tu n'as point déposé, et tu moissonnes ce que tu n'as point semé. ²² Il lui dit : Je te jugerai sur tes propres paroles, mauvais serviteur. Tu savais que je suis un homme sévère, prenant ce que je n'ai pas déposé et moissonnant ce que je n'ai pas semé. ²³ Et pourquoi n'as-tu pas mis mon argent dans une banque, et moi, à mon retour, je l'eusse retiré avec l'intérêt ? ²⁴ Et il dit à ceux qui étaient présents : Otez-lui la mine et donnez-la à celui qui a les dix mines. ²⁵ Et ils lui dirent : Seigneur, il a dix mines. ²⁶ Car je vous dis, qu'à tout homme qui a, il sera donné ; mais à celui qui n'a pas, cela même qu'il a lui sera ôté. ²⁷ Quant à mes ennemis, ces gens qui n'ont pas voulu que je régnasse sur eux, amenez-les ici et égorgez-les en ma présence. ²⁸ Et après avoir dit cela, il allait devant eux, montant à Jérusalem.
   ²⁹ Et il arriva, comme il approchait de Bethphagé et de Béthanie, vers le mont appelé des Oliviers, qu'il envoya deux de ses disciples, ³⁰ en disant : Allez à la bourgade qui est devant vous, et en y entrant, vous trouverez un ânon attaché, sur lequel aucun homme jamais ne s'est assis ; détachez-le, et amenez-le. ³¹ Et si quelqu'un vous demande : Pourquoi le détachez-vous ? vous direz ainsi : Parce que le Seigneur en a besoin. ³² Et s'en étant allés, les envoyés trouvèrent comme il leur avait dit. ³³ Et comme ils détachaient l'ânon, ses maîtres leur dirent : Pourquoi détachez-vous cet ânon ? ³⁴ Et ils dirent : Parce que le Seigneur en a besoin. ³⁵ Et ils l'amenèrent à Jésus. Et ayant jeté leurs vêtements sur l'ânon, ils firent monter Jésus dessus. ³⁶ Et, comme il avançait, ils étendaient leurs vêtements sur le chemin. ³⁷ Et, comme déjà il approchait, vers la descente de la montagne des Oliviers, toute la multitude des disciples, transportée de joie, se mit à louer Dieu à haute voix, pour tous les miracles qu'ils avaient vus, ³⁸ disant : Béni soit le Roi qui vient au nom du Seigneur ! Paix dans le ciel, et gloire dans les lieux très hauts ! ³⁹ Et quelques-uns des pharisiens, qui étaient dans la foule, lui dirent : Maître, reprends tes disciples. ⁴⁰ Et répondant, il leur dit : Je vous dis que si ceux-ci se taisent, les pierres crieront. ⁴¹ Et comme il approchait, voyant la ville, il pleura sur elle, en disant : ⁴² Si toi aussi, tu avais connu, au moins dans ce jour qui est à toi, les choses qui regardent ta paix ! Mais maintenant elles sont cachées à tes yeux. ⁴³ Car des jours viendront sur toi, où tes ennemis t'environneront d'un retranchement et t'enfermeront et te serreront de toutes parts ; ⁴⁴ et ils te détruiront entièrement, toi, et tes enfants au milieu de toi, et ils ne laisseront pas en toi pierre sur pierre, parce que tu n'as point connu le temps de ta visitation.
   ⁴⁵ Et, étant entré dans le temple, il se mit à chasser ceux qui vendaient, ⁴⁶ leur disant : Il est écrit : Ma maison sera une maison de prières ; mais vous en avez fait une caverne de voleurs. ⁴⁷ Et il enseignait chaque jour dans le temple. Mais les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes et les chefs du peuple cherchaient à le faire périr. ⁴⁸ Et ils ne trouvaient rien à faire, car le peuple tout entier, l'écoutant, était suspendu à ses lèvres.

Luc 20

   ¹ Et il arriva que, l'un de ces jours, comme il enseignait le peuple dans le temple, et annonçait l'Evangile, les sacrificateurs et les scribes, avec les anciens, survinrent, ² et lui parlèrent, disant : Dis-nous par quelle autorité tu fais ces choses, ou qui est celui qui t'a donné cette autorité. ³ Mais répondant il leur dit : Je vous demanderai, moi aussi, une chose, et dites-moi : ⁴ Le baptême de Jean était-il du ciel ou des hommes ? ⁵ Or ils raisonnaient entre eux, disant : Si nous disons : Du ciel, il dira : Pourquoi n'avez-vous pas cru en lui ? ⁶ Et si nous disons : Des hommes, tout le peuple nous lapidera ; car il est persuadé que Jean était un prophète. ⁷ Et ils répondirent qu'ils ne savaient d'où il venait. ⁸ Et Jésus leur, dit : Moi non plus, je ne vous dis pas par quelle autorité je fais ces choses.
   ⁹ Mais il se mit à dire au peuple cette parabole : Un homme planta une vigne et l'afferma à des vignerons, et il s'absenta pour longtemps. ¹⁰ Et dans la saison il envoya un serviteur vers les vignerons, afin qu'ils lui donnassent du fruit de la vigne. Mais les vignerons, après l'avoir battu, le renvoyèrent à vide. ¹¹ Et il envoya encore un autre serviteur ; mais eux, après l'avoir aussi battu et outragé, le renvoyèrent à vide. ¹² Et il en envoya encore un troisième ; mais eux, après l'avoir aussi blessé, le jetèrent dehors. ¹³ Et le maître de la vigne dit : Que ferai-je ? J'enverrai mon fils bien-aimé ; lui peut-être, ils le respecteront. ¹⁴ Mais les vignerons, le voyant, raisonnaient entre eux, en disant : Celui-ci est l'héritier ; tuons-le, afin que l'héritage soit à nous ! ¹⁵ Et l'ayant jeté hors de la vigne, ils le tuèrent. Que leur fera donc le maître de la vigne ? ¹⁶ Il viendra et fera périr ces vignerons, et il donnera la vigne à d'autres. Ce qu'ayant entendu, ils dirent : Que cela n'arrive ! ¹⁷ Mais lui, les regardant, leur dit : Que signifie donc ce qui est écrit : La pierre qu'ont rejetée ceux qui bâtissaient est devenue la principale pierre de l'angle ? ¹⁸ Quiconque tombera sur cette pierre-là sera brisé, et celui sur qui elle tombera, elle l'écrasera. ¹⁹ Et les scribes et les principaux sacrificateurs cherchèrent à mettre la main sur lui à l'heure même (mais ils craignirent le peuple) ; car ils avaient compris que c'était pour eux qu'il avait dit cette parabole.
   ²⁰ Et l'observant de près, ils envoyèrent des hommes apostés qui feignaient d'être justes, afin de surprendre de lui une parole pour le livrer à l'autorité et au pouvoir du gouverneur. ²¹ Et ils l'interrogèrent, disant : Maître, nous savons que tu parles et enseignes avec droiture, et que tu ne fais point acception de personnes, mais que tu enseignes la voie de Dieu selon la vérité : ²² Nous est-il permis ou non de payer le tribut à César ? ²³ Mais, discernant leur ruse, il leur dit : ²⁴ Montrez-moi un denier. De qui a-t-il l'image et l'inscription ? Ils dirent : De César. ²⁵ Et il leur dit : Rendez donc à César ce qui est à César, et à Dieu ce qui est à Dieu. ²⁶ Et ils ne purent surprendre une parole de lui devant le peuple ; et, tout étonnés de sa réponse, ils se turent.
   ²⁷ Mais quelques-uns des sadducéens, qui nient qu'il y ait une résurrection, s'étant approchés, l'interrogèrent, disant : ²⁸ Maître, Moïse nous a prescrit que si le frère de quelqu'un vient à mourir ayant une femme et qu'il soit sans enfants, son frère prenne la femme et suscite postérité à son frère. ²⁹ Il y avait donc sept frères ; et le premier ayant épousé une femme, mourut sans enfants. ³⁰ Le second aussi, ³¹ puis le troisième l'épousèrent, et de même aussi les sept, qui moururent sans laisser d'enfants. ³² Enfin, la femme mourut aussi. ³³ La femme donc, duquel sera-t-elle femme à la résurrection ? Car les sept l'ont eue pour femme. ³⁴ Et Jésus leur dit : Les fils de ce siècle se marient et donnent en mariage ; ³⁵ mais ceux qui ont été jugés dignes d'avoir part au siècle à venir et à la résurrection d'entre les morts, ne se marient ni ne sont donnés en mariage ; ³⁶ car ils ne peuvent plus mourir, parce qu'ils sont semblables aux anges, et ils sont fils de Dieu, étant fils de la résurrection. ³⁷ Et que les morts ressuscitent, Moïse même l'a signifié au passage où il est question du buisson, quand il nomme le Seigneur : le Dieu d'Abraham et le Dieu d'Isaac et le Dieu de Jacob. ³⁸ Or Dieu n'est pas le Dieu des morts, mais des vivants ; car tous vivent pour lui. ³⁹ Et quelques-uns d'entre les scribes, prenant la parole, dirent : Maître, tu as bien dit. ⁴⁰ Car ils n'osaient plus l'interroger sur rien.
   ⁴¹ Mais il leur dit : Comment dit-on que le Christ est fils de David ? ⁴² Car David lui-même dit, dans le livre des Psaumes : Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur : Assieds-toi à ma droite, ⁴³ jusqu'à ce que j'aie mis tes ennemis pour le marchepied de tes pieds ! ⁴⁴ David donc l'appelle son Seigneur ; et comment est-il son fils ?
   ⁴⁵ Or, comme tout le peuple écoutait, il dit à ses disciples : ⁴⁶ Gardez-vous des scribes, qui se plaisent à se promener en longues robes, et qui aiment les salutations dans les places publiques et les premiers sièges dans les synagogues et les premières places dans les festins, ⁴⁷ eux qui dévorent les maisons des veuves, et affectent de faire de longues prières ; ceux-là subiront un jugement plus rigoureux.

   ¹ And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. ² And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. ³ And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. ⁴ And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way. ⁵ And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. ⁶ And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. ⁷ And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. ⁸ And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. ⁹ And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. ¹⁰ For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
   ¹¹ And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. ¹² He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. ¹³ And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. ¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. ¹⁵ And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. ¹⁶ Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. ¹⁷ And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. ¹⁸ And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. ¹⁹ And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities. ²⁰ And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: ²¹ For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow. ²² And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant.    ²⁸ And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem. ²⁹ And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, ³⁰ Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither. ³¹ And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him. ³² And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them. ³³ And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt? ³⁴ And they said, The Lord hath need of him. ³⁵ And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon. ³⁶ And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way. ³⁷ And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; ³⁸ Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. ³⁹ And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. ⁴⁰ And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.
   ⁴¹ And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, ⁴² Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. ⁴³ For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, ⁴⁴ And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation. ⁴⁵ And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought; ⁴⁶ Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves. ⁴⁷ And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him, ⁴⁸ And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.

Luc 20

   ¹ And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him with the elders, ² And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority? ³ And he answered and said unto them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me: ⁴ The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? ⁵ And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not? ⁶ But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet. ⁷ And they answered, that they could not tell whence it was. ⁸ And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
   ⁹ Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time. ¹⁰ And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty. ¹¹ And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty. ¹² And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out. ¹³ Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him. ¹⁴ But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. ¹⁵ So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them? ¹⁶ He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid. ¹⁷ And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? ¹⁸ Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. ¹⁹ And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.
   ²⁰ And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor. ²¹ And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly: ²² Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no? ²³ But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me? ²⁴ Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's. ²⁵ And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's. ²⁶ And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.
   ²⁷ Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him, ²⁸ Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. ²⁹ There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children. ³⁰ And the second took her to wife, and he died childless. ³¹ And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died. ³² Last of all the woman died also. ³³ Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife. ³⁴ And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: ³⁵ But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: ³⁶ Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. ³⁷ Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. ³⁸ For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.
   ³⁹ Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said. ⁴⁰ And after that they durst not ask him any question at all. ⁴¹ And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son? ⁴² And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, ⁴³ Till I make thine enemies thy footstool. ⁴⁴ David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son? ⁴⁵ Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples, ⁴⁶ Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts; ⁴⁷ Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.
