¹ Quant à celui qui est faible dans la foi, accueillez-le sans décisions de controverses.
² L'un a la foi pour manger de tout ; l'autre, qui est faible, ne mange que des légumes.
³ Que celui qui mange ne méprise point celui qui ne mange pas ; mais aussi que celui qui ne mange pas ne juge point celui qui mange, car Dieu l'a accueilli.
⁴ Qui es-tu, toi qui juges le serviteur d'autrui ? C'est pour son propre maître qu'il se tient debout ou qu'il tombe. Mais il sera maintenu debout, car le Maître est puissant pour le maintenir debout.
⁵ Celui-ci, en effet, estime un jour plus qu'un autre jour ; celui-là estime tous les jours égaux. Que chacun soit pleinement persuadé dans son propre entendement.
⁶ Celui qui observe tel jour l'observe pour le Seigneur. Et celui qui mange, c'est pour le Seigneur qu'il mange, car il rend grâces à Dieu. Et celui qui ne mange pas, c'est pour le Seigneur qu'il ne mange pas, et il rend grâces à Dieu.
⁷ En effet, nul de nous ne vit pour lui-même et nul de nous ne meurt pour lui-même.
⁸ Car soit que nous vivions, nous vivons pour le Seigneur ; soit que nous mourions, nous mourons pour le Seigneur. Soit donc que nous vivions, soit que nous mourions, nous appartenons au Seigneur.
⁹ Car c'est pour cela que Christ est mort et qu'il a repris vie : pour être le Seigneur des morts et des vivants.
¹⁰ Or toi, pourquoi juges-tu ton frère ? ou toi aussi, pourquoi méprises-tu ton frère ? car tous nous comparaîtrons devant le tribunal de Dieu.
¹¹ Car il est écrit : Je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur, tout genou fléchira devant moi, et toute langue donnera gloire à Dieu.
¹² Ainsi chacun de nous rendra compte pour lui-même.
¹³ Ne nous jugeons donc plus les uns les autres, mais décidez plutôt ceci : ne pas placer de pierre d'achoppement ni d'occasion de chute devant votre frère.
¹⁴ Je sais et je suis persuadé dans le Seigneur Jésus que rien n'est impur par soi-même ; seulement, si quelqu'un pense qu'une chose est impure, pour lui elle est impure.
¹⁵ Car si, à cause d'un aliment, ton frère est contristé, tu ne te conduis plus selon l'amour. Ne fais pas périr, par ton aliment, celui pour qui Christ est mort.
¹⁶ Que l'on ne médise donc pas de votre bien.
¹⁷ Car le royaume de Dieu, ce n'est pas le manger et le boire ; mais il est justice et paix et joie dans l'Esprit-Saint.
¹⁸ Car qui sert le Christ en cela est agréable à Dieu et approuvé des hommes.
¹⁹ Ainsi donc, recherchons ce qui contribue à la paix et à l'édification mutuelle.
²⁰ Ne détruis pas l'oeuvre de Dieu pour un aliment. Toutes choses, il est vrai, sont pures ; mais toute chose devient mauvaise pour l'homme qui en mange étant scandalisé.
²¹ Il est bien de ne pas manger de viande, de ne pas boire de vin, de n'user de rien par quoi ton frère est scandalisé.
²² Tu as la foi ; garde-la par devers toi, devant Dieu. Heureux celui qui ne se juge pas soi-même en ce qu'il approuve.
²³ Mais celui qui doute est condamné s'il mange, parce que cela n'est pas venu de la foi ; or, tout ce qui ne vient pas de la foi est péché.

Romains 15

¹ Or nous devons, nous qui sommes forts, supporter les infirmités des faibles et ne pas nous complaire en nous-mêmes.
² Que chacun de nous cherche à complaire au prochain pour le bien, en vue de l'édification.
³ Car aussi le Christ ne s'est point complu en lui-même ; mais, selon qu'il est écrit : Les outrages de ceux qui t'outragent sont tombés sur moi.
⁴ Car tout ce qui a été écrit auparavant a été écrit pour notre instruction ; afin que, par la constance et par la consolation des Ecritures, nous ayons l'espérance.
⁵ Or, que le Dieu de la constance et de la consolation vous donne d'avoir les uns envers les autres le même sentiment selon Jésus-Christ ;
⁶ afin que, d'un même coeur, d'une même bouche, vous glorifiiez le Dieu et Père de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ.
⁷ C'est pourquoi, accueillez-vous les uns les autres comme le Christ nous a accueillis pour la gloire de Dieu.
⁸ Je dis, en effet, que Christ est devenu serviteur des circoncis pour prouver la véracité de Dieu, afin de confirmer les promesses faites aux pères ;
⁹ et que les gentils ont glorifié Dieu pour sa miséricorde, selon qu'il est écrit : C'est pour cela que je te louerai parmi les nations et que je chanterai à la gloire de ton nom.
¹⁰ Et l'Ecriture dit encore : Réjouissez-vous, nations, avec son peuple !
¹¹ Et encore : Louez le Seigneur, vous toutes les nations, et que tous les peuples le célèbrent !
¹² Et Esaïe dit encore : il paraîtra le rejeton de Jessé, celui qui se lève pour gouverner les nations ; en lui les nations espéreront.
¹³ Que le Dieu de l'espérance vous remplisse de toute joie et de toute paix dans la foi, afin que vous abondiez en espérance par la puissance de l'Esprit saint !
¹⁴ Or, je suis moi-même aussi persuadé à votre sujet, mes frères, que vous êtes, vous aussi, pleins de bonté, remplis de toute connaissance, capables de vous avertir aussi les uns les autres.
¹⁵ Cependant, je vous ai écrit avec plus de hardiesse à certains égards, comme pour raviver vos souvenirs, en vertu de la grâce qui m'a été donnée de Dieu,
¹⁶ pour être ministre de Jésus-Christ parmi les gentils, m'acquittant du divin service de l'Evangile de Dieu, afin que les gentils deviennent une offrande agréable, étant sanctifiée par l'Esprit saint.
¹⁷ J'ai donc ce sujet de me glorifier en Jésus-Christ, pour ce qui regarde le service de Dieu.
¹⁸ Car je n'oserai mentionner aucune chose que Christ n'ait accomplie par moi pour amener les gentils à l'obéissance, en parole et en oeuvre,
¹⁹ par la puissance des signes et des prodiges, par la puissance de l'Esprit ; de sorte que, de Jérusalem et ses environs jusqu'en Illyrie, j'ai abondamment prêché l'Evangile du Christ,
²⁰ et cela, en tenant à honneur d'évangéliser là où Christ n'avait point encore été nommé, afin de ne pas bâtir sur le fondement posé par un autre,
²¹ mais selon qu'il est écrit : Ceux à qui il n'avait point été annoncé verront, et ceux qui n'en avaient point ouï parler comprendront.
²² C'est aussi pourquoi j'étais empêché le plus souvent de me rendre auprès de vous.
²³ Mais à présent n'ayant plus rien qui me retienne dans ces contrées-ci, et éprouvant depuis plusieurs années le vif désir de me rendre auprès de vous,
²⁴ quand je me rendrai en Espagne..., car j'espère vous voir en passant, et y être accompagné par vous, après que j'aurai d'abord satisfait en partie mon désir d'être avec vous.
²⁵ Mais présentement je vais à Jérusalem pour le service des saints.
²⁶ Car la Macédoine et l'Achaïe ont bien voulu faire quelque communication de leurs biens aux pauvres d'entre les saints qui sont à Jérusalem.
²⁷ Elles l'ont bien voulu, en effet, et elles sont leurs débitrices ; car si les gentils ont eu communication des biens spirituels des Juifs, ils doivent aussi les assister de leurs biens temporels.
²⁸ Lors donc que j'aurai achevé cette oeuvre et que je leur aurai remis en due forme ces dons, je m'en irai en Espagne, en passant chez vous.
²⁹ Et je sais que, en allant auprès de vous, c'est dans la plénitude de la bénédiction de Christ que j'irai.
³⁰ Mais je vous exhorte, frères, par notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ et par l'amour qu'inspire l'Esprit, à combattre avec moi dans les prières que vous adressez à Dieu en ma faveur ;
³¹ afin que je sois délivré des incrédules qui sont en Judée et que cette offrande que je porte à Jérusalem soit agréée des saints ;
³² afin que, arrivé avec joie auprès de vous par la volonté de Dieu, je me repose avec vous.
³³ Que le Dieu de la paix soit avec vous tous. Amen !

¹ Or je vous recommande Phoebé, notre soeur, qui est aussi diaconesse de l'Eglise de Cenchrées ;
² afin que vous la receviez dans le Seigneur d'une manière digne des saints et que vous l'assistiez dans toute affaire où elle pourrait avoir besoin de vous, car elle aussi a été l'aide de plusieurs et de moi-même.
³ Saluez Prisca et Aquilas, mes compagnons d'oeuvre en Jésus-Christ,
⁴ eux qui, pour sauver ma vie, ont exposé leur tête, auxquels ce n'est pas moi seul qui rends grâces, mais aussi toutes les Eglises des gentils.
⁵ Saluez aussi l'Eglise qui se réunit dans leur maison. Saluez Epaïnète, mon bien-aimé, qui est les prémices de l'Asie pour Christ.
⁶ Saluez Marie, qui a beaucoup travaillé pour vous.
⁷ Saluez Andronicus et Junias, mes parents et mes compagnons de captivité, qui sont distingués parmi les apôtres, qui même ont été en Christ avant moi.
⁸ Saluez Ampliatus, mon bien-aimé dans le Seigneur.
⁹ Saluez Urbain, notre compagnon d'oeuvre en Christ, et Stachys, mon bien-aimé.
¹⁰ Saluez Appellès, qui est éprouvé en Christ. Saluez ceux d'entre les gens d'Aristobule.
¹¹ Saluez Hérodion, mon parent. Saluez ceux d'entre les gens de Narcisse qui sont dans le Seigneur.
¹² Saluez Tryphène et Tryphose, qui travaillent dans le Seigneur. Saluez Perside, la bien-aimée, elle qui a beaucoup travaillé dans le Seigneur.
¹³ Saluez Rufus, l'élu dans le Seigneur, et sa mère, qui est aussi la mienne.
¹⁴ Saluez Asyncritus, Phlégon, Hermès, Patrobas, Hermas et les frères qui sont avec eux.
¹⁵ Saluez Philologue et Julie, Nérée et sa soeur, et Olympas, et tous les saints qui sont avec eux.
¹⁶ Saluez-vous les uns les autres par un saint baiser. Toutes les Eglises du Christ vous saluent.
¹⁷ Or, je vous exhorte, frères, à prendre garde à ceux qui causent des divisions et des scandales contre la doctrine que vous avez apprise. Eloignez-vous d'eux ;
¹⁸ car de telles gens ne servent pas Christ, notre Seigneur, mais leur propre ventre ; et par leurs bonnes paroles et leur beau langage, ils séduisent les coeurs des simples.
¹⁹ Car votre obéissance est venue à la connaissance de tous. Je me réjouis donc à votre sujet ; mais je désire que vous soyez sages à l'égard du bien et purs à l'égard du mal.
²⁰ Mais le Dieu de la paix écrasera bientôt Satan sous vos pieds.
²¹ Timothée, mon compagnon d'oeuvre, vous salue, ainsi que Lucius, Jason et Sosipatros, mes parents.
²² Je vous salue dans le Seigneur, moi, Tertius, qui ai écrit cette épître.
²³ Gaïus, mon hôte et celui de l'Eglise entière, vous salue. Eraste, le trésorier de la ville, et notre frère Quartus vous saluent.
²⁴ La grâce de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ soit avec vous tous. Amen !
²⁵ Or, à celui qui peut vous fortifier selon mon Evangile et la prédication de Jésus-Christ, selon la révélation du mystère, touchant lequel le silence a été gardé durant des temps infinis,
²⁶ mais qui a été maintenant manifesté et, par des écrits prophétiques, selon l'ordre du Dieu éternel, porté à la connaissance de toutes les nations pour les amener à l'obéissance de la foi,
²⁷ à Dieu, seul sage, soit la gloire par Jésus-Christ, aux siècles des siècles ! Amen !

¹ Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.
² For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.
³ Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
⁴ Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
⁵ One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
⁶ He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
⁷ For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.
⁸ For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.
⁹ For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.
¹⁰ But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
¹¹ For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
¹² So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
¹³ Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
¹⁴ I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
¹⁵ But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.
¹⁶ Let not then your good be evil spoken of:
¹⁷ For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
¹⁸ For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.
¹⁹ Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.
²⁰ For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.
²¹ It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.
²² Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.
²³ And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

¹ We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
² Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.
³ For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.
⁴ For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
⁵ Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:
⁶ That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
⁷ Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.
⁸ Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:

¹⁷ I have therefore whereof I may glory through Jesus Christ in those things which pertain to God.
¹⁸ For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed,
¹⁹ Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.
²⁰ Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's foundation:
²¹ But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand.
²² For which cause also I have been much hindered from coming to you.
²³ But now having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come unto you;
²⁴ Whensoever I take my journey into Spain, I will come to you: for I trust to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you, if first I be somewhat filled with your company.
²⁵ But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the saints.
²⁶ For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.
²⁷ It hath pleased them verily; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them in carnal things.
²⁸ When therefore I have performed this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will come by you into Spain.
²⁹ And I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.
³⁰ Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;
³¹ That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints;
³² That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed.
³³ Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.

² That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also.
³ Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus:
⁴ Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.
⁵ Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Salute my well-beloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto Christ.

¹⁹ For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.
²⁰ And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
