¹ Ecoutez ceci, maison de Jacob, vous qui êtes appelés du nom d'Israël et qui êtes sortis de la source de Juda ; vous qui jurez par le nom de l'Eternel et qui célébrez le Dieu d'Israël, sans sincérité ni justice ;
² car ils tirent leur nom de la ville sainte, et ils s'appuient sur le Dieu d'Israël, dont le nom est l'Eternel des armées !
³ J'annonçai dès longtemps les premières choses ; elles sortirent de ma bouche ; je les proclamai : soudain je les accomplis, et elles arrivèrent !
⁴ Parce que je savais que tu es dur et que ton cou est une barre de fer et que ton front est d'airain,
⁵ je te l'ai annoncé dès longtemps ; je te l'ai fait connaître avant que cela arrivât, de peur que tu ne disses : C'est mon idole qui l'a fait ! c'est mon dieu de bois ou de fonte qui l'a ordonné !
⁶ Tu l'as entendu ; vois, tout s'est accompli !... Mais vous, ne le déclarerez-vous pas ? Je te fais entendre dès maintenant des choses nouvelles, cachées, que tu ne connais point !
⁷ C'est maintenant qu'elles naissent, et non auparavant, tu n'en avais point entendu parler jusqu'à ce jour, de peur que tu ne disses : Voilà, je le savais !
⁸ Tu n'as rien entendu, tu n'en as rien su, rien n'en est jamais venu à tes oreilles, parce que je savais que tu es toujours perfide et que dès le sein de ta mère ton nom est Rebelle.
⁹ A cause de mon nom, je retiens ma colère, et à cause de ma renommée, je patiente avec toi, pour ne pas t'exterminer !
¹⁰ Voici, je t'ai fondu, mais sans obtenir d'argent ; je t'ai éprouvé au creuset de l'affliction ;
¹¹ c'est pour l'amour de moi, de moi, que je le ferai ; car comment laisserais-je profaner mon nom ? Je ne veux point céder ma gloire à un autre.
¹² Ecoute-moi, Jacob, et toi, Israël, que j'ai appelé : c'est moi, moi qui suis le premier, moi aussi qui suis le dernier !
¹³ C'est aussi ma main qui a fondé la terre et ma droite qui a étendu les cieux ; je les appelle, ils paraissent aussitôt.
¹⁴ Assemblez-vous tous, et écoutez : Qui d'entre eux a annoncé ces choses ? Celui qu'aime l'Eternel accomplira sa volonté dans Babel, et son bras sera contre les Chaldéens.
¹⁵ Moi, moi, j'ai parlé, je l'ai moi-même appelé ; je l'ai fait venir ; il réussira dans sa voie.
¹⁶ Approchez-vous de moi, écoutez ceci ! Dès l'origine je n'ai point parlé en cachette ; quand ces choses arrivaient, j'étais là ; et maintenant le Seigneur, l'Eternel, m'envoie avec son Esprit :
¹⁷ Ainsi parle l'Eternel, ton Rédempteur, le Saint d'Israël : C'est moi, l'Eternel, ton Dieu, qui t'enseigne pour ton bien, qui te guide dans le chemin que tu dois suivre.
¹⁸ Oh ! que tu sois attentif à mes commandements ! et ta paix sera comme un fleuve, ta justice comme les flots de la mer ;
¹⁹ ta postérité sera comme le sable, et le fruit de tes entrailles comme les grains de sable ; son nom ne sera ni retranché ni effacé devant moi.
²⁰ Sortez de Babel ! fuyez loin des Chaldéens avec des cris de joie ! Publiez-le, proclamez-le, faites-le savoir jusqu'au bout de la terre ! Dites : L'Eternel a racheté Jacob, son serviteur ;
²¹ ceux qu'il a conduits par le désert n'ont point eu soif ; il a fait couler pour eux les eaux du rocher ; il a fendu le roc, et les eaux ont jailli !
²² Il n'y a point de paix pour les méchants, a dit l'Eternel.

¹ Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.
² For they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Israel; The LORD of hosts is his name.
³ I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I shewed them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass.
⁴ Because I knew that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy brow brass;
⁵ I have even from the beginning declared it to thee; before it came to pass I shewed it thee: lest thou shouldest say, Mine idol hath done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, hath commanded them.
⁶ Thou hast heard, see all this; and will not ye declare it? I have shewed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them.
⁷ They are created now, and not from the beginning; even before the day when thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them.
⁸ Yea, thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not; yea, from that time that thine ear was not opened: for I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb.
⁹ For my name's sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off.
¹⁰ Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.
¹¹ For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.
¹² Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.
¹³ Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.
¹⁴ All ye, assemble yourselves, and hear; which among them hath declared these things? The LORD hath loved him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans.
¹⁵ I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him: I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous.
¹⁶ Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me.
¹⁷ Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.
¹⁸ O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:
¹⁹ Thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like the gravel thereof; his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me.
²⁰ Go ye forth of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The LORD hath redeemed his servant Jacob.
²¹ And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them: he clave the rock also, and the waters gushed out.
²² There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.

¹ [Audite hæc, domus Jacob, qui vocamini nomine Israël, et de aquis Juda existis ; qui juratis in nomine Domini, et Dei Israël recordamini non in veritate neque in justitia.
² De civitate enim sancta vocati sunt, et super Deum Israël constabiliti sunt : Dominus exercituum nomen ejus.
³ Priora ex tunc annuntiavi, et ex ore meo exierunt, et audita feci ea : repente operatus sum, et venerunt.
⁴ Scivi enim quia durus es tu, et nervus ferreus cervix tua, et frons tua ærea.
⁵ Prædixi tibi ex tunc ; antequam venirent, indicavi tibi, ne forte diceres : Idola mea fecerunt hæc, et sculptilia mea et conflatilia mandaverunt ista.
⁶ Quæ audisti, vide omnia ; vos autem, num annuntiastis ? Audita feci tibi nova ex tunc, et conservata sunt quæ nescis.
⁷ Nunc creata sunt et non ex tunc ; et ante diem, et non audisti ea, ne forte dicas : Ecce ego cognovi ea.
⁸ Neque audisti, neque cognovisti, neque ex tunc aperta est auris tua : scio enim quia prævaricans prævaricaberis, et transgressorem ex utero vocavi te.
⁹ Propter nomen meum longe faciam furorem meum, et laude mea infrenabo te, ne intereas.
¹⁰ Ecce excoxi te, sed non quasi argentum ; elegi te in camino paupertatis.
¹¹ Propter me, propter me faciam, ut non blasphemer ; et gloriam meam alteri non dabo.
¹² Audi me, Jacob, et Israël, quem ego voco : ego ipse, ego primus, et ego novissimus.
¹³ Manus quoque mea fundavit terram, et dextera mea mensa est cælos ; ego vocabo eos, et stabunt simul.
¹⁴ Congregamini, omnes vos, et audite : quis de eis annuntiavit hæc ? Dominus dilexit eum, faciet voluntatem suam in Babylone, et brachium suum in Chaldæis.
¹⁵ Ego, ego locutus sum, et vocavi eum ; adduxi eum, et directa est via ejus.
¹⁶ Accedite ad me et audite hoc : non a principio in abscondito locutus sum : ex tempore antequam fieret, ibi eram : et nunc Dominus Deus misit me, et spiritus ejus.
¹⁷ Hæc dicit Dominus, redemptor tuus, Sanctus Israël : Ego Dominus Deus tuus, docens te utilia, gubernans te in via qua ambulas.
¹⁸ Utinam attendisses mandata mea : facta fuisset sicut flumen pax tua, et justitia tua sicut gurgites maris :
¹⁹ et fuisset quasi arena semen tuum, et stirps uteri tui ut lapilli ejus ; non interisset et non fuisset attritum nomen ejus a facie mea.
²⁰ Egredimini de Babylone, fugite a Chaldæis, in voce exsultationis annuntiate : auditum facite hoc, et efferte illud usque ad extrema terræ. Dicite : Redemit Dominus servum suum Jacob.
²¹ Non sitierunt in deserto, cum educeret eos : aquam de petra produxit eis, et scidit petram, et fluxerunt aquæ.
