¹ Et l'Eternel dit à Abram : Va-t-en de ton pays, de ta famille et de la maison de ton père, au pays que je te montrerai ;
² et je ferai de toi une grande nation ; je te bénirai et je rendrai grand ton nom. Tu seras une bénédiction :
³ je bénirai ceux qui te béniront ; et celui qui t'injuriera, je le maudirai ; et toutes les familles de la terre seront bénies en toi.
⁴ Et Abram s'en alla comme l'Eternel le lui avait dit, et Lot alla avec lui. Abram avait soixante-quinze ans quand il sortit de Charan.
⁵ Et Abram prit Saraï sa femme et Lot, fils de son frère, et tous les biens dont ils s'étaient enrichis et les gens qu'ils avaient acquis à Charan, et ils sortirent pour aller au pays de Canaan. Et ils arrivèrent au pays de Canaan.
⁶ Et Abram traversa le pays jusqu'au lieu où est Sichem, jusqu'au chêne de Moré. Or les Cananéens étaient alors dans le pays.
⁷ Et l'Eternel apparut à Abram et lui dit : Je donnerai ce pays à ta postérité. Et il éleva là un autel à l'Eternel qui lui était apparu.
⁸ Puis il se transporta de là à la montagne, à l'orient de Béthel, et dressa sa tente, ayant Béthel à l'occident et Aï à l'orient, et il éleva là un autel à l'Eternel et invoqua le nom de l'Eternel.
⁹ Puis Abram partit, allant de campement en campement vers le Midi.
¹⁰ Et il y eut une famine dans le pays, et Abram descendit en Egypte pour y séjourner, car la famine était grande dans le pays.
¹¹ Et lorsque il fut près d'entrer en Egypte, il dit à Saraï sa femme : Ecoute ; je sais que, comme tu es une belle femme,
¹² voici ce qui arrivera : Lorsque les Egyptiens te verront, ils diront : C'est sa femme ; ils me tueront et te laisseront vivre.
¹³ Dis donc que tu es ma soeur, afin qu'il m'arrive du bien à cause de toi et qu'on me laisse la vie par égard pour toi.
¹⁴ Et comme Abram arrivait en Egypte, les Egyptiens virent que sa femme était fort belle,
¹⁵ et les grands de Pharaon, l'ayant vue, la vantèrent à Pharaon, et cette femme fut prise et emmenée dans la maison de Pharaon.
¹⁶ Et il fit du bien à Abram à cause d'elle. Et il eut des moutons, des boeufs, des ânes, des serviteurs, des servantes, des ânesses et des chameaux.
¹⁷ Et l'Eternel frappa Pharaon de grandes calamités, ainsi que sa maison, à cause de Saraï, femme d'Abram.
¹⁸ Et Pharaon appela Abram et lui dit. Qu'est-ce que tu m'as fait ? Pourquoi ne m'as-tu pas déclaré qu'elle était ta femme ?
¹⁹ Pourquoi as-tu dit : C'est ma soeur ; de sorte que je l'ai prise pour femme ? Maintenant, voilà ta femme ; prends-la et va-t-en.
²⁰ Et Pharaon chargea des gens de le faire partir, lui, sa femme et tout ce qui lui appartenait.

¹ Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
² And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
³ And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
⁴ So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
⁵ And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
⁶ And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.
⁷ And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.
⁸ And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.
⁹ And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.
¹⁰ And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.
¹¹ And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:
¹² Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
¹³ Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
¹⁴ And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.
¹⁵ The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.
¹⁶ And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.
¹⁷ And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife.
¹⁸ And Pharaoh called Abram and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?
¹⁹ Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.
²⁰ And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.

Séjour d'Abram en Egypte

¹ L'Eternel dit à Abram: «*Quitte ton pays, ta patrie et ta famille et va dans le pays que je te montrerai. 
² Je ferai de toi une grande nation, je te bénirai, je rendrai ton nom grand et tu seras une source de bénédiction.
³ Je bénirai ceux qui te béniront et je maudirai ceux qui te maudiront, et *toutes les familles de la terre seront bénies en toi.»
⁴ Abram partit conformément à la parole de l'Eternel, et Lot partit avec lui. Abram était âgé de 75 ans lorsqu'il quitta Charan.
⁵ Il prit sa femme Saraï et Lot, le fils de son frère. Il prit aussi tous les biens et les serviteurs dont ils étaient devenus propriétaires à Charan, et ils partirent pour se rendre dans le pays de Canaan, où ils arrivèrent.
⁶ Abram traversa le pays jusqu'à l'endroit appelé Sichem, jusqu'aux chênes de Moré. Les Cananéens occupaient alors le pays.
⁷ L'Eternel apparut à Abram et dit: «C'est à ta descendance que je donnerai ce pays.» Abram construisit là un autel en l'honneur de l'Eternel qui lui était apparu.
⁸ Il partit de là vers la région montagneuse qui se trouve à l'est de Béthel et il dressa ses tentes. Béthel était à l'ouest et Aï à l'est. Là, il construisit un autel en l'honneur de l'Eternel et fit appel au nom de l'Eternel.
⁹ Puis Abram continua par étapes en direction du Néguev.
¹⁰ Il y eut une famine dans le pays et Abram descendit en Egypte pour y séjourner, car la famine pesait lourdement sur le pays.
¹¹ Comme il était sur le point d'entrer en Egypte, il dit à sa femme Saraï: «Ecoute-moi! Je sais que tu es une belle femme.
¹² Quand les Egyptiens te verront, ils diront: ‘C'est sa femme' et ils me tueront, tandis que toi, ils te laisseront en vie.
¹³ Présente-toi donc comme ma sœur afin que je sois bien traité à cause de toi et que je reste en vie grâce à toi.»
¹⁴ Lorsque Abram fut arrivé en Egypte, les Egyptiens virent que la femme était très belle.
¹⁵ Les intendants du pharaon la virent et la vantèrent au pharaon, si bien que la femme fut emmenée chez le pharaon.
¹⁶ Il traita bien Abram à cause d'elle et Abram reçut des brebis, des bœufs, des ânes, des serviteurs et des servantes, des ânesses et des chameaux.
¹⁷ Cependant, l'Eternel frappa le pharaon et sa famille de grands fléaux à cause de Saraï, la femme d'Abram.
¹⁸ Alors le pharaon appela Abram et dit: «Qu'est-ce que tu m'as fait? Pourquoi ne m'as-tu pas informé que c'est ta femme?
¹⁹ Pourquoi as-tu prétendu que c'était ta sœur? De ce fait, je l'ai prise pour femme! Voici maintenant ta femme. Prends-la et va-t'en!»
²⁰ Et le pharaon donna l'ordre à ses gens de le renvoyer, lui et sa femme, avec tout ce qui lui appartenait.

¹ Dixit autem Dominus ad Abram : Egredere de terra tua, et de cognatione tua, et de domo patris tui, et veni in terram quam monstrabo tibi.
² Faciamque te in gentem magnam, et benedicam tibi, et magnificabo nomen tuum, erisque benedictus.
³ Benedicam benedicentibus tibi, et maledicam maledicentibus tibi, atque in te benedicentur universæ cognationes terræ.
⁴ Egressus est itaque Abram sicut præceperat ei Dominus, et ivit cum eo Lot : septuaginta quinque annorum erat Abram cum egrederetur de Haran.
