¹ Il arriva au temps d'Amraphel, roi de Sinéar, d'Arjoc, roi d'Ellasar, de Kédorlaomer, roi d'Elam, et de Thidéal, roi de Goïm,
² qu'ils firent la guerre à Béra, roi de Sodome, à Birsa, roi de Gomorrhe, à Sinéab, roi d'Adma, à Séméber, roi de Tséboïm, et au roi de Béla, qui est Tsoar.
³ Tous ceux-ci se rassemblèrent dans la vallée de Siddim, qui est la mer Salée.
⁴ Douze ans ils avaient été soumis à Kédorlaomer, mais la treizième année ils s'étaient révoltés.
⁵ Et la quatorzième année, Kédorlaomer vint avec les rois qui étaient avec lui, et ils battirent les Réphaïm à Astharoth-Karnaïm, les Zuzim à Ham, les Emim à Savé-Kiriathaïm
⁶ et les Horiens, dans leur montagne de Séir, jusqu'à El-Paran, qui est près du désert.
⁷ Puis s'en retournant, ils arrivèrent à la fontaine du Jugement, qui est Kadès, et ils battirent tout le pays des Amalékites, et aussi les Amorrhéens qui habitaient à Hatsatson-Thamar.
⁸ Et le roi de Sodome sortit avec le roi de Gomorrhe, le roi d'Adma, le roi de Tséboïm et le roi de Béla, qui est Tsoar, et ils se rangèrent en bataille contre eux dans la vallée de Siddim,
⁹ contre Kédorlaomer, roi d'Elam, Thidéal, roi de Goïm, Amraphel, roi de Sinéar, et Arjoc, roi d'Ellasar, quatre rois contre les cinq.
¹⁰ Et il y avait dans la vallée de Siddim beaucoup de puits de bitume, et les rois de Sodome et de Gomorrhe s'enfuirent, et ils y tombèrent, et ceux qui échappèrent s'enfuirent dans la montagne.
¹¹ Et [les ennemis] prirent tous les biens de Sodome et Gomorrhe et tous leurs vivres, et ils s'en allèrent.
¹² Ils prirent aussi Lot, fils du frère d'Abram, et ses biens, et s'en allèrent ; or il demeurait à Sodome.
¹³ Et l'un des fugitifs vint l'annoncer à Abram l'Hébreu ; or il campait dans la chênaie de Mamré, l'Amorrhéen, frère d'Escol et frère d'Aner ; ils étaient des alliés d'Abram.
¹⁴ Et quand Abram apprit que son frère avait été emmené captif, il mit sur pied ses gens nés dans sa maison, au nombre de trois cent dix-huit, et il poursuivit les rois jusqu'à Dan.
¹⁵ Et ayant partagé sa troupe pour les attaquer pendant la nuit avec ses serviteurs, il les battit et les poursuivit jusqu'à Hoba, qui est au nord de Damas.
¹⁶ Et il ramena tous les biens ; il ramena aussi Lot, son frère, et ses biens, et aussi les femmes et les gens.
¹⁷ Et comme Abram revenait après avoir battu Kédorlaomer et les rois qui étaient avec lui, le roi de Sodome alla au-devant de lui dans la vallée de Savé ; c'est la vallée du Roi.
¹⁸ Et Melchisédek, roi de Salem, apporta du pain et du vin ; il était sacrificateur du Dieu Très-Haut ;
¹⁹ et il bénit Abram et dit : Béni soit Abram par le Dieu Très-Haut qui a fondé les cieux et la terre,
²⁰ et béni soit le Dieu Très-Haut qui a livré tes ennemis entre tes mains ! Et Abram lui donna la dîme de tout.
²¹ Et le roi de Sodome dit à Abram : Donne-moi les personnes et prends pour toi les biens.
²² Abram répondit au roi de Sodome : J'ai levé ma main vers l'Eternel, le Dieu Très-Haut, qui a fondé les cieux et la terre :
²³ Si d'un fil à une courroie de soulier je prends quoi que ce soit qui t'appartienne !... Et tu ne diras pas : J'ai enrichi Abram.
²⁴ Je ne veux rien, si ce n'est ce qu'ont mangé les jeunes gens et la part des hommes qui sont venus avec moi, Aner, Escol et Mamré ; eux prendront leur part.

⁸ Alors le roi de Sodome s'avança avec le roi de Gomorrhe, le roi d'Adama, le roi de Séboïm et le roi de Bala, qui est Ségor,
⁹ et ils se rangèrent en bataille contre eux dans la vallée de Siddim, contre Chodoriahornor, roi d'Elam, Thadal, roi de Goïm, Arnraphel, roi de Sennaar, et Arioch, roi d'Ellasar, quatre rois contre les cinq.
¹⁰ Il y avait dans la vallée de Siddim de nombreux puits de bitume ; le roi de Sodome et celui de Gomorrhe prirent la fuite, et ils y tombèrent ;
¹¹ le reste s'enfuit dans la montagne. Les vainqueurs enlevèrent tous les biens de Sodome et de Gomorrhe et tous leurs vivres, et ils s'en allèrent.

¹⁸ Melchisédech, roi de Salem, apporta du pain et du vin ; il était prêtre du Dieu Très-Haut. Il bénit Abram et dit :
¹⁹ « Béni soit Abram par le Dieu Très-Haut, qui a créé le ciel et la terre !
²⁰ Béni soit le Dieu Très-Haut, qui a livré tes ennemis entre tes mains ! » Et Abram lui donna la dîme de tout.
²¹ « Donne-moi les personnes et prends pour toi les biens. »
²² Abram répondit au roi de Sodome : « j'ai levé la main vers Yahweh, le Dieu Très-Haut, qui a créé le ciel et la terre :
²³ D'un fil à une courroie de sandale, je ne prendrai quoi que ce soit qui t'appartienne ! afin que tu ne dises pas : j'ai enrichi Abram.
²⁴ Rien pour moi ! Ce qu'ont mangé les jeunes gens et la part des hommes qui sont venus avec moi, Aner, Eschol et Mambré, eux, ils prendront leur part. »

¹ And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations;
² That these made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar.
³ All these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea.
⁴ Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.
⁵ And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzims in Ham, and the Emins in Shaveh Kiriathaim,
⁶ And the Horites in their mount Seir, unto Elparan, which is by the wilderness.
⁷ And they returned, and came to Enmishpat, which is Kadesh, and smote all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazezontamar.
⁸ And there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar;) and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim;
⁹ With Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and with Tidal king of nations, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings with five.
¹⁰ And the vale of Siddim was full of slimepits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there; and they that remained fled to the mountain.
¹¹ And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and went their way.
¹² And they took Lot, Abram's brother's son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.
¹³ And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.
¹⁴ And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.
¹⁵ And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.
¹⁶ And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.
¹⁷ And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale.
¹⁸ And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
¹⁹ And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:
²⁰ And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
²¹ And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself.
²² And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,
²³ That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:
²⁴ Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.
