¹ Après cela, Dieu mit Abraham à l'épreuve et lui dit : « Abraham ! »
² Il répondit : « Me voici. » Et Dieu dit « Prends ton fils, ton unique, celui que tu aimes, Isaac, et va-t'en au pays de Moria, et là offre-le en holocauste sur l'une des montagnes que je t'indiquerai. »
³ Abraham se leva de bon matin et, ayant sellé son âne, il prit avec lui deux de ses serviteurs et son fils Isaac ; il fendit le bois de l'holocauste et partit pour aller au lieu que Dieu lui avait dit.
⁴ Le troisième jour, Abraham, levant les yeux, aperçut le lieu de loin ;
⁵ et Abraham dit à ses serviteurs : « Restez ici avec l'âne ; moi et l'enfant, nous voulons aller jusque-là et adorer, puis nous reviendrons vers vous. »
⁶ Et Abraham prit le bois de l'holocauste, et le mit sur Isaac, son fils, lui-même portait dans sa main le feu et le couteau, et ils s'en allèrent tous deux ensemble.
⁷ Isaac parla à Abraham, son père, et dit : « Mon père ! » Il répondit : « Me voici, mon fils. »
⁸ Et Isaac dit : « Voici le feu et le bois ; mais où est l'agneau pour l'holocauste ? » Abraham répondit : « Dieu verra à trouver l'agneau pour l'holocauste, mon fils. » Et ils allaient tous deux ensemble.
⁹ Lorsqu'ils furent arrivés au lieu que Dieu lui avait désigné, Abraham y éleva l'autel et arrangea le bois ;
¹⁰ puis il lia Isaac, son fils, et le mit sur l'autel, au-dessus du bois.
¹¹ Et Abraham étendit la main et prit le couteau pour égorger son fils. Alors l'ange de Yahweh lui cria du ciel et dit : « Abraham ! Abraham ! »
¹² Il répondit : « Me voici. » Et l'ange dit « Ne porte pas la main sur l'enfant et ne lui fais rien ;
¹³ car je sais maintenant que tu crains Dieu et que tu ne m'as pas refusé ton fils, ton unique. » Abraham, ayant levé les yeux, vit derrière lui un bélier pris dans un buisson par les cornes ; et Abraham alla prendre le bélier et l'offrit en holocauste à la place de son fils.
¹⁴ Et Abraham nomma ce lieu : « Yahweh-Yiréh », d'où l'on dit aujourd'hui « Sur la montagne de Yahweh, il sera vu. »
¹⁵ L'ange de Yahweh appela du ciel Abraham une seconde fois, en disant :
¹⁶ « Je l'ai juré par moi-même, dit Yahweh : parce que tu as fait cela, et que tu ne m'as pas refusé ton fils, ton unique,
¹⁷ je te bénirai ; je multiplierai ta postérité comme les étoiles du ciel et comme le sable qui est au bord de la mer, et ta postérité possédera la porte de ses ennemis.
¹⁸ En ta postérité seront bénies toutes les nations de la terre, parce que tu as obéi à ma voix. »
¹⁹ Abraham retourna vers ses serviteurs et, s'étant levés, ils s'en allèrent ensemble à Bersabée. Et Abraham habita à Bersabée.
²⁰ Après ces événements, on apporta à Abraham cette nouvelle : « Voici, Melcha a aussi enfanté des fils à Nachor, ton frère :
²¹ Hus, son premier-né, Buz, son frère, Camuel, père d'Aram, Cased, Azau,
²² Pheldas, Jedlaph et Bathuel. » Bathuel fut père de Rébecca.
²³ Ce sont là les huit fils que Melcha enfanta à Nachor, frère d'Abraham.
²⁴ Sa concubine, nommée Roma, eut aussi des enfants : Tabée, Gaham, Taas et Maacha.

¹ Et il arriva, après ces choses, que Dieu éprouva* Abraham, et lui dit : Abraham ! Et il dit : Me voici.
² Et [Dieu] dit : Prends ton fils, ton unique, celui que tu aimes, Isaac, et va-t'en au pays de Morija, et là offre-le en holocauste, sur une des montagnes que je te dirai.
³ Et Abraham se leva de bon matin et bâta son âne et prit avec lui deux de ses jeunes hommes, et Isaac, son fils ; et il fendit le bois pour l'holocauste, et se leva, et s'en alla vers le lieu que Dieu lui avait dit.
⁴ Le troisième jour, Abraham leva ses yeux et vit le lieu de loin.
⁵ Et Abraham dit à ses jeunes hommes : Restez ici, vous, avec l'âne ; et moi et l'enfant nous irons jusque-là, et nous adorerons ; et nous reviendrons vers vous.
⁶ Et Abraham prit le bois de l'holocauste, et le mit sur Isaac, son fils ; et il prit dans sa main le feu et le couteau ; et ils allaient les deux ensemble.
⁷ Et Isaac parla à Abraham, son père, et dit : Mon père ! Et il dit : Me voici, mon fils. Et il dit : Voici le feu et le bois ; mais où est l'agneau pour l'holocauste ?
⁸ Et Abraham dit : Mon fils, Dieu se pourvoira de l'agneau pour l'holocauste. Et ils allaient les deux ensemble.
⁹ Et ils arrivèrent au lieu que Dieu lui avait dit. Et Abraham bâtit là l'autel, et arrangea le bois, et lia Isaac, son fils, et le mit sur l'autel, sur le bois.
¹⁰ Et Abraham étendit sa main et prit le couteau pour égorger son fils.
¹¹ Mais l'Ange de l'Éternel lui cria des cieux, et dit : Abraham ! Abraham ! Et il dit : Me voici.
¹² Et il dit : N'étends pas ta main sur l'enfant, et ne lui fais rien ; car maintenant je sais que tu crains Dieu, et que tu ne m'as pas refusé ton fils, ton unique.
¹³ Et Abraham leva ses yeux, et vit, et voici, il y avait derrière [lui] un bélier retenu à un buisson par les cornes ; et Abraham alla et prit le bélier, et l'offrit en holocauste à la place de son fils.
¹⁴ Et Abraham appela le nom de ce lieu-là : Jéhovah-Jiré*, comme on dit aujourd'hui : En la montagne de l'Éternel il y sera pourvu.
¹⁵ Et l'Ange de l'Éternel cria des cieux à Abraham, une seconde fois,
¹⁶ et dit : J'ai juré par moi-même, dit l'Éternel : Parce que tu as fait cette chose-là, et que tu n'as pas refusé ton fils, ton unique,
¹⁷ certainement je te bénirai, et je multiplierai abondamment ta semence comme les étoiles des cieux et comme le sable qui est sur le bord de la mer ; et ta semence possédera la porte de ses ennemis.
¹⁸ Et toutes les nations de la terre se béniront* en ta semence, parce que tu as écouté ma voix.
¹⁹ Et Abraham retourna vers ses jeunes hommes ; et ils se levèrent, et s'en allèrent ensemble à Beër-Shéba ; et Abraham habita à Beër-Shéba.
²⁰ Et il arriva, après ces choses, qu'on rapporta à Abraham en disant : Voici, Milca, elle aussi, a enfanté des enfants à Nakhor, ton frère :
²¹ Uts, son premier-né ; et Buz, son frère ; et Kemuel, père d'Aram ;
²² et Késed, et Hazo, et Pildash et Jidlaph, et Bethuel.
²³ Or Bethuel engendra Rebecca. Milca enfanta ces huit à Nakhor, frère d'Abraham.
²⁴ Et sa concubine, nommée Reüma, elle aussi enfanta Tébakh, et Gakham, et Thakhash, et Maaca.

¹ And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.
² And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
³ And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.
⁴ Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.
⁵ And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
⁶ And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.
⁷ And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?
⁸ And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
⁹ And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.
¹⁰ And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
¹¹ And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
¹² And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
¹³ And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
¹⁴ And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.
¹⁵ And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,
¹⁶ And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:
¹⁷ That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
¹⁸ And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
¹⁹ So Abraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.
²⁰ And it came to pass after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah, she hath also born children unto thy brother Nahor;
²¹ Huz his firstborn, and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram,
²² And Chesed, and Hazo, and Pildash, and Jidlaph, and Bethuel.
²³ And Bethuel begat Rebekah: these eight Milcah did bear to Nahor, Abraham's brother.
²⁴ And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, she bare also Tebah, and Gaham, and Thahash, and Maachah.
