¹ Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.
² And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.
³ And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.
⁴ And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.
⁵ And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.
⁶ And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD.
⁷ And he said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the LORD.
⁸ And it came to pass, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns passed on before the LORD, and blew with the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them.
⁹ And the armed men went before the priests that blew with the trumpets, and the rereward came after the ark, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.
¹⁰ And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.
¹¹ So the ark of the LORD compassed the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.
¹² And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD.
¹³ And seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD went on continually, and blew with the trumpets: and the armed men went before them; but the rereward came after the ark of the LORD, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.
¹⁴ And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days.
¹⁵ And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times.
¹⁶ And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city.
¹⁷ And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.
¹⁸ And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.
¹⁹ But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD.
²⁰ So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
²¹ And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.
²² But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.
²³ And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.
²⁴ And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD.
²⁵ And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father's household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
²⁶ And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.
²⁷ So the LORD was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.

¹ Or Jérico était close et fermée avec soin, à cause des enfants d'Israël; personne ne sortait et personne n'entrait.
² Et l'Éternel dit à Josué: Regarde, j'ai livré entre tes mains Jérico, et son roi, et ses vaillants guerriers.
³ Vous tous donc, les hommes de guerre, faites le tour de la ville, en tournant une fois autour d'elle. Tu feras ainsi pendant six jours;
⁴ Et sept sacrificateurs porteront sept cors de bélier devant l'arche. Mais le septième jour vous ferez le tour de la ville sept fois, et les sacrificateurs sonneront des cors.
⁵ Et quand ils sonneront avec force de la corne de bélier, dès que vous entendrez le son du cor, tout le peuple jettera de grands cris; alors la muraille de la ville tombera sous elle-même, et le peuple montera, chacun devant soi.
⁶ Josué, fils de Nun, appela donc les sacrificateurs, et leur dit: Portez l'arche de l'alliance, et que sept sacrificateurs portent sept cors de bélier devant l'arche de l'Éternel.
⁷ Il dit ensuite au peuple: Passez, et faites le tour de la ville, et que ceux qui sont armés passent devant l'arche de l'Éternel.
⁸ Et quand Josué eut parlé au peuple, les sept sacrificateurs qui portaient les sept cors de bélier devant l'Éternel, passèrent et sonnèrent des cors, et l'arche de l'alliance de l'Éternel les suivait.
⁹ Les hommes armés marchaient devant les sacrificateurs qui sonnaient de leurs cors; mais l'arrière-garde suivait l'arche; en marchant on sonnait des cors.
¹⁰ Or, Josué avait commandé au peuple, en disant: Vous ne pousserez point de cris, et vous ne ferez point entendre votre voix, et il ne sortira pas un mot de votre bouche, jusqu'au jour où je vous dirai: Poussez des cris! Alors vous pousserez des cris.
¹¹ Il fit donc faire le tour de la ville à l'arche de l'Éternel, en tournant une fois autour; puis ils vinrent au camp, et y passèrent la nuit.
¹² Et Josué se leva de bon matin, et les sacrificateurs portèrent l'arche de l'Éternel.
¹³ Or, les sept sacrificateurs qui portaient les sept cors de bélier devant l'arche de l'Éternel, marchaient et sonnaient des cors en marchant. Les hommes armés marchaient devant eux; et l'arrière-garde suivait l'arche de l'Éternel; en marchant on sonnait des cors.
¹⁴ Et ils firent une fois le tour de la ville, le second jour, puis ils retournèrent au camp. Ils firent ainsi pendant six jours.
¹⁵ Mais le septième jour, ils se levèrent de bon matin, au lever de l'aurore, et ils firent sept fois le tour de la ville, de la même manière; ce jour-là seulement ils firent le tour de la ville sept fois.
¹⁶ Et la septième fois, comme les sacrificateurs sonnèrent des cors, Josué dit au peuple: Poussez des cris, car l'Éternel vous a livré la ville.
¹⁷ La ville sera vouée à l'Éternel par interdit, elle et tout ce qu'elle contient; Rahab la courtisane vivra, elle seule et tous ceux qui seront avec elle dans la maison, parce qu'elle a caché les messagers que nous avions envoyés.
¹⁸ Seulement, gardez-vous de l'interdit, de peur que, après avoir dévoué la ville, vous ne preniez de l'interdit, que vous ne mettiez le camp d'Israël en interdit, et que vous n'y jetiez le trouble.
¹⁹ Tout l'argent et tout l'or, et tout objet d'airain et de fer, seront consacrés à l'Éternel; ils entreront au trésor de l'Éternel.
²⁰ Le peuple poussa donc des cris, et l'on sonna des cors. Dès que le peuple entendit le son des cors, il jeta de grands cris, et la muraille s'écroula; et le peuple monta dans la ville, chacun devant soi, et ils prirent la ville.
²¹ Et ils dévouèrent par interdit, au fil de l'épée, tout ce qui était dans la ville, depuis l'homme jusqu'à la femme, depuis l'enfant jusqu'au vieillard, et jusqu'au boeuf, à la brebis et à l'âne.
²² Mais Josué dit aux deux hommes qui avaient exploré le pays: Entrez dans la maison de la courtisane, et faites-en sortir cette femme et tout ce qui lui appartient, comme vous le lui avez juré.
²³ Les jeunes hommes qui avaient exploré le pays entrèrent donc et firent sortir Rahab, son père, sa mère, ses frères et tout ce qui était à elle; ils firent sortir aussi toutes les familles de sa parenté, et ils les mirent hors du camp d'Israël.
²⁴ Puis ils brûlèrent la ville et tout ce qu'elle contenait; seulement ils mirent l'argent, l'or, et les objets d'airain et de fer, au trésor de la maison de l'Éternel.
²⁵ Josué laissa donc la vie à Rahab la courtisane, et à la maison de son père, et à tous ceux qui lui appartenaient; et elle a habité au milieu d'Israël jusqu'à ce jour, parce qu'elle avait caché les messagers que Josué avait envoyés pour explorer Jérico.
²⁶ En ce temps-là, Josué jura, en disant: Maudit soit devant l'Éternel, l'homme qui se lèvera et rebâtira cette ville de Jérico! Il la fondera au prix de son premier-né, et il en mettra les portes au prix de son plus jeune fils!
²⁷ Et l'Éternel fut avec Josué, et sa réputation se répandit par tout le pays.

¹ Jericho autem clausa erat atque munita, timore filiorum Israël, et nullus egredi audebat aut ingredi.
² Dixitque Dominus ad Josue : Ecce dedi in manu tua Jericho, et regem ejus, omnesque fortes viros.
³ Circuite urbem cuncti bellatores semel per diem : sic facietis sex diebus.
⁴ Septimo autem die, sacerdotes tollant septem buccinas, quarum usus est in jubilæo, et præcedant arcam fœderis : septiesque circuibitis civitatem, et sacerdotes clangent buccinis.
⁵ Cumque insonuerit vox tubæ longior atque concisior, et in auribus vestris increpuerit, conclamabit omnis populus vociferatione maxima, et muri funditus corruent civitatis, ingredienturque singuli per locum contra quem steterint.
⁶ Vocavit ergo Josue filius Nun sacerdotes, et dixit ad eos : Tollite arcam fœderis : et septem alii sacerdotes tollant septem jubilæorum buccinas, et incedant ante arcam Domini.
⁷ Ad populum quoque ait : Ite, et circuite civitatem, armati, præcedentes arcam Domini.
⁸ Cumque Josue verba finisset, et septem sacerdotes septem buccinis clangerent ante arcam fœderis Domini,
⁹ omnisque præcederet armatus exercitus, reliquum vulgus arcam sequebatur, ac buccinis omnia concrepabant.
¹⁰ Præceperat autem Josue populo, dicens : Non clamabitis, nec audietur vox vestra, neque ullus sermo ex ore vestro egredietur, donec veniat dies in quo dicam vobis : Clamate, et vociferamini.
¹¹ Circuivit ergo arca Domini civitatem semel per diem, et reversa in castra mansit ibi.
¹² Igitur Josue de nocte consurgente, tulerunt sacerdotes arcam Domini,
¹³ et septem ex eis septem buccinas, quarum in jubilæo usus est : præcedebantque arcam Domini ambulantes atque clangentes : et armatus populus ibat ante eos, vulgus autem reliquum sequebatur arcam, et buccinis personabat.
¹⁴ Circuieruntque civitatem secundo die semel, et reversi sunt in castra. Sic fecerunt sex diebus.
¹⁵ Die autem septimo, diluculo consurgentes, circuierunt urbem, sicut dispositum erat, septies.
¹⁶ Cumque septimo circuitu clangerent buccinis sacerdotes, dixit Josue ad omnem Israël : Vociferamini : tradidit enim vobis Dominus civitatem.
¹⁷ Sitque civitas hæc anathema, et omnia quæ in ea sunt, Domino : sola Rahab meretrix vivat, cum universis qui cum ea in domo sunt : abscondit enim nuntios quos direximus.
¹⁸ Vos autem cavete ne de his, quæ præcepta sunt, quippiam contingatis, et sitis prævaricationis rei, et omnia castra Israël sub peccato sint atque turbentur.
¹⁹ Quidquid autem auri et argenti fuerit, et vasorum æneorum ac ferri, Domino consecretur, repositum in thesauris ejus.
²⁰ Igitur omni populo vociferante, et clangentibus tubis, postquam in aures multitudinis vox sonitusque increpuit, muri illico corruerunt : et ascendit unusquisque per locum qui contra se erat : ceperuntque civitatem,
²¹ et interfecerunt omnia quæ erant in ea, a viro usque ad mulierem, ab infante usque ad senem. Boves quoque et oves et asinos in ore gladii percusserunt.
²² Duobus autem viris, qui exploratores missi fuerant, dixit Josue : Ingredimini domum mulieris meretricis, et producite eam, et omnia quæ illius sunt, sicut illi juramento firmastis.
²³ Ingressique juvenes eduxerunt Rahab, et parentes ejus, fratres quoque, et cunctam supellectilem ac cognationem illius, et extra castra Israël manere fecerunt.
²⁴ Urbem autem, et omnia quæ erant in ea, succenderunt, absque auro et argento, et vasis æneis, ac ferro, quæ in ærarium Domini consecrarunt.
²⁵ Rahab vero meretricem, et domum patris ejus, et omnia quæ habebat, fecit Josue vivere, et habitaverunt in medio Israël, usque in præsentem diem : eo quod absconderit nuntios, quos miserat ut explorarent Jericho. In tempore illo, imprecatus est Josue, dicens :
²⁶ Maledictus vir coram Domino, qui suscitaverit et ædificaverit civitatem Jericho. In primogenito suo fundamenta illius jaciat, et in novissimo liberorum ponat portas ejus.
²⁷ Fuit ergo Dominus cum Josue, et nomen ejus vulgatum est in omni terra.
