BAN ¹ Et lorsque David fut établi dans sa maison, il dit à Nathan, le prophète : Voici, j'habite dans une maison de cèdre, et l'arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel est sous des couvertures.

KJV ¹ Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains.

WLC ¹ וַיְהִ֕י כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר יָשַׁ֥ב דָּוִ֖יד בְּבֵית֑וֹ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר דָּוִ֜יד אֶל־ נָתָ֣ן הַנָּבִ֗יא הִנֵּ֨ה אָנֹכִ֤י יוֹשֵׁב֙ בְּבֵ֣ית הָֽאֲרָזִ֔ים וַאֲר֥וֹן בְּרִית־ יְהוָ֖ה תַּ֥חַת יְרִיעֽוֹת׃

BAN ² Et Nathan dit à David : Fais tout ce qui est dans ton coeur, car Dieu est avec toi.

KJV ² Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.

VULC ² Et ait Nathan ad David : Omnia quæ in corde tuo sunt, fac : Deus enim tecum est.

WLC ² וַיֹּ֤אמֶר נָתָן֙ אֶל־ דָּוִ֔יד כֹּ֛ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר בִּֽלְבָבְךָ֖ עֲשֵׂ֑ה כִּ֥י הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים עִמָּֽךְ׃

BAN ³ Et cette nuit même, la parole de Dieu fut adressée à Nathan en ces mots :

KJV ³ And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,

VULC ³ Igitur nocte illa factus est sermo Dei ad Nathan, dicens :

WLC ³ וַֽיְהִ֖י בַּלַּ֣יְלָה הַה֑וּא וַיְהִי֙ דְּבַר־ אֱלֹהִ֔ים אֶל־ נָתָ֖ן לֵאמֹֽר׃

BAN ⁴ Va et dis à David, mon serviteur : Ainsi a dit l'Eternel : Ce n'est pas toi qui me bâtiras la maison où j'habiterai.

KJV ⁴ Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:

VULC ⁴ Vade, et loquere David servo meo : Hæc dicit Dominus : Non ædificabis tu mihi domum ad habitandum.

WLC ⁴ לֵ֤ךְ וְאָמַרְתָּ֙ אֶל־ דָּוִ֣יד עַבְדִּ֔י כֹּ֖ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֑ה לֹ֥א אַתָּ֛ה תִּבְנֶה־ לִּ֥י הַבַּ֖יִת לָשָֽׁבֶת׃

BAN ⁵ Car je n'ai point habité dans une maison, depuis le jour où j'ai fait monter Israël jusqu'à ce jour-ci ; mais j'ai été de tente en tente, et de demeure [en demeure].

KJV ⁵ For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.

VULC ⁵ Neque enim mansi in domo ex eo tempore quo eduxi Israël usque ad diem hanc : sed fui semper mutans loca tabernaculi, et in tentorio

WLC ⁵ כִּ֣י לֹ֤א יָשַׁ֙בְתִּי֙ בְּבַ֔יִת מִן־ הַיּ֗וֹם אֲשֶׁ֤ר הֶעֱלֵ֙יתִי֙ אֶת־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל עַ֖ד הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה וָֽאֶהְיֶ֛ה מֵאֹ֥הֶל אֶל־ אֹ֖הֶל וּמִמִּשְׁכָּֽן׃

BAN ⁶ Pendant tout le temps que j'ai marché au milieu de tout Israël, ai-je dit un mot à quelqu'un des juges d'Israël à qui j'ai ordonné de paître mon peuple, en disant : Pourquoi ne me bâtissez-vous pas une maison de cèdre ?

KJV ⁶ Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars?

VULC ⁶ manens cum omni Israël. Numquid locutus sum saltem uni judicum Israël, quibus præceperam ut pascerent populum meum, et dixi : Quare non ædificastis mihi domum cedrinam ?

WLC ⁶ בְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶֽׁר־ הִתְהַלַּכְתִּי֮ בְּכָל־ יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ הֲדָבָ֣ר דִּבַּ֗רְתִּי אֶת־ אַחַד֙ שֹׁפְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוִּ֛יתִי לִרְע֥וֹת אֶת־ עַמִּ֖י לֵאמֹ֑ר לָ֛מָּה לֹא־ בְנִיתֶ֥ם לִ֖י בֵּ֥ית אֲרָזִֽים׃

BAN ⁷ Et maintenant tu diras à mon serviteur, à David : Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées : Je t'ai tiré du pâturage où tu marchais après les brebis, pour que tu fusses prince sur mon peuple d'Israël.

KJV ⁷ Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:

VULC ⁷ Nunc itaque sic loqueris ad servum meum David : Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum : Ego tuli te, cum in pascuis sequereris gregem, ut esses dux populi mei Israël :

WLC ⁷ וְ֠עַתָּה כֹּֽה־ תֹאמַ֞ר לְעַבְדִּ֣י לְדָוִ֗יד כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת אֲנִ֤י לְקַחְתִּ֙יךָ֙ מִן־ הַנָּוֶ֔ה מִֽן־ אַחֲרֵ֖י הַצֹּ֑אן לִהְי֣וֹת נָגִ֔יד עַ֖ל עַמִּ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

BAN ⁸ Et j'ai été avec toi partout où tu allais, et j'ai retranché tous tes ennemis de devant toi ; et je t'ai fait un nom comme le nom des grands qui sont sur la terre ;

KJV ⁸ And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.

VULC ⁸ et fui tecum quocumque perrexisti, et interfeci omnes inimicos tuos coram te, fecique tibi nomen quasi unius magnorum qui celebrantur in terra.

WLC ⁸ וָֽאֶהְיֶ֣ה עִמְּךָ֗ בְּכֹל֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָלַ֔כְתָּ וָאַכְרִ֥ית אֶת־ כָּל־ אוֹיְבֶ֖יךָ מִפָּנֶ֑יךָ וְעָשִׂ֤יתִֽי לְךָ֙ שֵׁ֔ם כְּשֵׁ֥ם הַגְּדוֹלִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּאָֽרֶץ׃

BAN ⁹ et j'ai donné un lieu à mon peuple d'Israël, et je l'ai planté, et il a habité chez lui, et il ne sera plus troublé, et les fils d'iniquité ne le dévorent plus comme autrefois

KJV ⁹ Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,

VULC ⁹ Et dedi locum populo meo Israël : plantabitur, et habitabit in eo, et ultra non commovebitur : nec filii iniquitatis atterent eos, sicut a principio,

WLC ⁹ וְשַׂמְתִּ֣י מָ֠קוֹם לְעַמִּ֨י יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל וּנְטַעְתִּ֙יהוּ֙ וְשָׁכַ֣ן תַּחְתָּ֔יו וְלֹ֥א יִרְגַּ֖ז ע֑וֹד וְלֹא־ יוֹסִ֤יפוּ בְנֵי־ עַוְלָה֙ לְבַלֹּת֔וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר בָּרִאשׁוֹנָֽה׃

BAN ¹⁰ et dans le temps où j'établissais des juges sur mon peuple d'Israël. Et j'ai humilié tous tes ennemis, et je te fais savoir que l'Eternel t'établira une maison.

KJV ¹⁰ And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house.

VULC ¹⁰ ex diebus quibus dedi judices populo meo Israël, et humiliavi universos inimicos tuos. Annuntio ergo tibi, quod ædificaturus sit tibi Dominus domum.

WLC ¹⁰ וּלְמִיָּמִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוִּ֤יתִי שֹֽׁפְטִים֙ עַל־ עַמִּ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְהִכְנַ֖עְתִּי אֶת־ כָּל־ אוֹיְבֶ֑יךָ וָאַגִּ֣ד לָ֔ךְ וּבַ֖יִת יִֽבְנֶה־ לְּךָ֥ יְהוָֽה׃

BAN ¹¹ Puis, quand tes jours seront accomplis, et que tu iras rejoindre tes pères, j'élèverai après toi ta postérité en la personne d'un de tes fils, et j'affermirai son règne.

KJV ¹¹ And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.

VULC ¹¹ Cumque impleveris dies tuos ut vadas ad patres tuos, suscitabo semen tuum post te, quod erit de filiis tuis : et stabiliam regnum ejus.

WLC ¹¹ וְהָיָ֗ה כִּֽי־ מָלְא֤וּ יָמֶ֙יךָ֙ לָלֶ֣כֶת עִם־ אֲבֹתֶ֔יךָ וַהֲקִֽימוֹתִ֤י אֶֽת־ זַרְעֲךָ֙ אַחֲרֶ֔יךָ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִהְיֶ֖ה מִבָּנֶ֑יךָ וַהֲכִינוֹתִ֖י אֶת־ מַלְכוּתֽוֹ׃

BAN ¹² C'est lui qui me bâtira une maison, et j'affermirai son trône pour toujours.

KJV ¹² He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.

VULC ¹² Ipse ædificabit mihi domum, et firmabo solium ejus usque in æternum.

WLC ¹² ה֥וּא יִבְנֶה־ לִּ֖י בָּ֑יִת וְכֹנַנְתִּ֥י אֶת־ כִּסְא֖וֹ עַד־ עוֹלָֽם׃

BAN ¹³ Je serai pour lui un père, et il sera pour moi un fils ; et je ne lui retirerai point ma grâce, comme je l'ai retirée à celui qui t'a précédé ;

KJV ¹³ I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:

VULC ¹³ Ego ero ei in patrem, et ipse erit mihi in filium : et misericordiam meam non auferam ab eo, sicut abstuli ab eo qui ante te fuit.

WLC ¹³ אֲנִי֙ אֶֽהְיֶה־ לּ֣וֹ לְאָ֔ב וְה֖וּא יִֽהְיֶה־ לִּ֣י לְבֵ֑ן וְחַסְדִּי֙ לֹא־ אָסִ֣יר מֵֽעִמּ֔וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר הֲסִיר֔וֹתִי מֵאֲשֶׁ֥ר הָיָ֖ה לְפָנֶֽיךָ׃

BAN ¹⁴ et je l'établirai dans ma maison et dans mon royaume pour toujours, et son trône sera affermi pour toujours.

KJV ¹⁴ But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.

VULC ¹⁴ Et statuam eum in domo mea, et in regno meo usque in sempiternum : et thronus ejus erit firmissimus in perpetuum.

WLC ¹⁴ וְהַֽעֲמַדְתִּ֛יהוּ בְּבֵיתִ֥י וּבְמַלְכוּתִ֖י עַד־ הָעוֹלָ֑ם וְכִסְא֕וֹ יִהְיֶ֥ה נָכ֖וֹן עַד־ עוֹלָֽם׃

BAN ¹⁵ Nathan parla à David conformément à toutes ces paroles et à toute cette vision.

KJV ¹⁵ According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

VULC ¹⁵ Juxta omnia verba hæc, et juxta universam visionem istam, sic locutus est Nathan ad David.

WLC ¹⁵ כְּכֹל֙ הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה וּכְכֹ֖ל הֶחָז֣וֹן הַזֶּ֑ה כֵּ֛ן דִּבֶּ֥ר נָתָ֖ן אֶל־ דָּוִֽיד׃

BAN ¹⁶ Et le roi David alla et se présenta devant l'Eternel et dit : Qui suis-je, Eternel Dieu ! et quelle est ma maison, pour que tu m'aies fait arriver jusqu'ici ?

KJV ¹⁶ And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?

VULC ¹⁶ Cumque venisset rex David, et sedisset coram Domino, dixit : Quis ego sum, Domine Deus, et quæ domus mea, ut præstares mihi talia ?

WLC ¹⁶ וַיָּבֹא֙ הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ דָּוִ֔יד וַיֵּ֖שֶׁב לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיֹּ֗אמֶר מִֽי־ אֲנִ֞י יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהִים֙ וּמִ֣י בֵיתִ֔י כִּ֥י הֲבִיאֹתַ֖נִי עַד־ הֲלֹֽם׃

BAN ¹⁷ Et c'est peu de chose à tes yeux, ô Dieu ; tu as parlé de la maison de ton serviteur pour un long avenir et tu m'as vu au rang de l'homme le plus élevé, ô Eternel Dieu !

KJV ¹⁷ And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.

VULC ¹⁷ sed et hoc parum visum est in conspectu tuo, ideoque locutus es super domum servi tui etiam in futurum : et fecisti me spectabilem super omnes homines, Domine Deus.

WLC ¹⁷ וַתִּקְטַ֨ן זֹ֤את בְּעֵינֶ֙יךָ֙ אֱלֹהִ֔ים וַתְּדַבֵּ֥ר עַל־ בֵּֽית־ עַבְדְּךָ֖ לְמֵרָח֑וֹק וּרְאִיתַ֗נִי כְּת֧וֹר הָאָדָ֛ם הַֽמַּעֲלָ֖ה יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהִֽים׃

BAN ¹⁸ Et que pourrait te dire encore David touchant la gloire accordée à ton serviteur ? Tu connais ton serviteur.

KJV ¹⁸ What can David speak more to thee for the honour of thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant.

VULC ¹⁸ Quid ultra addere potest David, cum ita glorificaveris servum tuum, et cognoveris eum ?

WLC ¹⁸ מַה־ יּוֹסִ֨יף ע֥וֹד דָּוִ֛יד אֵלֶ֖יךָ לְכָב֣וֹד אֶת־ עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ וְאַתָּ֖ה אֶֽת־ עַבְדְּךָ֥ יָדָֽעְתָּ׃

BAN ¹⁹ Eternel ! c'est par amour pour ton serviteur et selon ton coeur que tu as fait toute cette grande chose, pour [lui] faire connaître toutes [tes] merveilles.

KJV ¹⁹ O LORD, for thy servant's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.

VULC ¹⁹ Domine, propter famulum tuum juxta cor tuum fecisti omnem magnificentiam hanc, et nota esse voluisti universa magnalia.

WLC ¹⁹ יְהוָ֕ה בַּעֲב֤וּר עַבְדְּךָ֙ וּֽכְלִבְּךָ֔ עָשִׂ֕יתָ אֵ֥ת כָּל־ הַגְּדוּלָּ֖ה הַזֹּ֑את לְהֹדִ֖יעַ אֶת־ כָּל־ הַגְּדֻלּֽוֹת׃

BAN ²⁰ Eternel ! nul n'est égal à toi, et il n'y a pas d'autre Dieu que toi, d'après tout ce que nous avons entendu de nos oreilles.

KJV ²⁰ O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

VULC ²⁰ Domine, non est similis tui, et non est alius deus absque te, ex omnibus quos audivimus auribus nostris.

WLC ²⁰ יְהוָה֙ אֵ֣ין כָּמ֔וֹךָ וְאֵ֥ין אֱלֹהִ֖ים זוּלָתֶ֑ךָ בְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־ שָׁמַ֖עְנוּ בְּאָזְנֵֽינוּ׃

BAN ²¹ Et qui est semblable à ton peuple d'Israël, le seul peuple sur la terre que Dieu soit allé se racheter pour en faire son peuple..., de manière à t'acquérir la gloire de choses grandes et redoutables, en chassant des nations devant ton peuple que tu t'es racheté d'Egypte ?

KJV ²¹ And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?

VULC ²¹ Quis enim est alius, ut populus tuus Israël, gens una in terra, ad quam perrexit Deus ut liberaret et faceret populum sibi, et magnitudine sua atque terroribus ejiceret nationes a facie ejus, quem de Ægypto liberarat ?

WLC ²¹ וּמִי֙ כְּעַמְּךָ֣ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל גּ֥וֹי אֶחָ֖ד בָּאָ֑רֶץ אֲשֶׁר֩ הָלַ֨ךְ הָאֱלֹהִ֜ים לִפְדּ֧וֹת ל֣וֹ עָ֗ם לָשׂ֤וּם לְךָ֙ שֵׁ֚ם גְּדֻלּ֣וֹת וְנֹרָא֔וֹת לְגָרֵ֗שׁ מִפְּנֵ֧י עַמְּךָ֛ אֲשֶׁר־ פָּדִ֥יתָ מִמִּצְרַ֖יִם גּוֹיִֽם׃

BAN ²² Et tu as fait de ton peuple d'Israël ton peuple à toujours ; et toi, Eternel, tu es devenu leur Dieu.

KJV ²² For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God.

VULC ²² Et posuisti populum tuum Israël tibi in populum usque in æternum, et tu, Domine, factus es Deus ejus.

WLC ²² וַ֠תִּתֵּן אֶת־ עַמְּךָ֨ יִשְׂרָאֵ֧ל ׀ לְךָ֛ לְעָ֖ם עַד־ עוֹלָ֑ם וְאַתָּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה הָיִ֥יתָ לָהֶ֖ם לֵאלֹהִֽים׃

BAN ²³ Et maintenant, Eternel ! que la parole que tu as dite sur ton serviteur et sur sa maison soit maintenue à toujours, et agis selon ce que tu as dit ;

KJV ²³ Therefore now, LORD, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said.

VULC ²³ Nunc igitur Domine, sermo quem locutus es famulo tuo et super domum ejus confirmetur in perpetuum, et fac sicut locutus es.

WLC ²³ וְעַתָּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה הַדָּבָ֗ר אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבַּ֤רְתָּ עַֽל־ עַבְדְּךָ֙ וְעַל־ בֵּית֔וֹ יֵאָמֵ֖ן עַד־ עוֹלָ֑ם וַעֲשֵׂ֖ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּֽרְתָּ׃

BAN ²⁴ et que ton nom soit reconnu fidèle et soit magnifié à jamais ; qu'on dise : L'Eternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël, est Dieu pour Israël ! Et la maison de David ton serviteur sera affermie devant toi.

KJV ²⁴ Let it even be established, that thy name may be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee.

VULC ²⁴ Permaneatque et magnificetur nomen tuum usque in sempiternum, et dicatur : Dominus exercituum Deus Israël, et domus David servi ejus permanens coram eo.

WLC ²⁴ וְ֠יֵֽאָמֵן וְיִגְדַּ֨ל שִׁמְךָ֤ עַד־ עוֹלָם֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר יְהוָ֤ה צְבָאוֹת֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֱלֹהִ֖ים לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וּבֵית־ דָּוִ֥יד עַבְדְּךָ֖ נָכ֥וֹן לְפָנֶֽיךָ׃

BAN ²⁵ Car toi, mon Dieu, tu as révélé à ton serviteur ton dessein de lui bâtir une maison. C'est pourquoi ton serviteur s'est senti porté à prier devant toi.

KJV ²⁵ For thou, O my God, hast told thy servant that thou wilt build him an house: therefore thy servant hath found in his heart to pray before thee.

VULC ²⁵ Tu enim, Domine Deus meus, revelasti auriculam servi tui, ut ædificares ei domum : et idcirco invenit servus tuus fiduciam, ut oret coram te.

WLC ²⁵ כִּ֣י ׀ אַתָּ֣ה אֱלֹהַ֗י גָּלִ֙יתָ֙ אֶת־ אֹ֣זֶן עַבְדְּךָ֔ לִבְנ֥וֹת ל֖וֹ בָּ֑יִת עַל־ כֵּן֙ מָצָ֣א עַבְדְּךָ֔ לְהִתְפַּלֵּ֖ל לְפָנֶֽיךָ׃

BAN ²⁶ Et maintenant, Eternel ! c'est toi qui es Dieu, et tu as promis à ton serviteur de lui faire ce bien.

KJV ²⁶ And now, LORD, thou art God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:

VULC ²⁶ Nunc ergo Domine, tu es Deus, et locutus es ad servum tuum tanta beneficia.

WLC ²⁶ וְעַתָּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה אַתָּה־ ה֖וּא הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וַתְּדַבֵּר֙ עַֽל־ עַבְדְּךָ֔ הַטּוֹבָ֖ה הַזֹּֽאת׃

BAN ²⁷ Et maintenant, daigne bénir la maison de ton serviteur, pour qu'elle subsiste à toujours devant toi ; car ce que toi, Eternel, as béni, est béni pour toujours !

KJV ²⁷ Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O LORD, and it shall be blessed for ever.

VULC ²⁷ Et cœpisti benedicere domui servi tui, ut sit semper coram te : te enim, Domine, benedicente, benedicta erit in perpetuum.

WLC ²⁷ וְעַתָּ֗ה הוֹאַ֙לְתָּ֙ לְבָרֵךְ֙ אֶת־ בֵּ֣ית עַבְדְּךָ֔ לִהְי֥וֹת לְעוֹלָ֖ם לְפָנֶ֑יךָ כִּֽי־ אַתָּ֤ה יְהוָה֙ בֵּרַ֔כְתָּ וּמְבֹרָ֖ךְ לְעוֹלָֽם׃
