BAN ¹ Ne suis-je pas libre ?Ne suis-je pas apôtre ? N'ai-je pas vu Jésus- Christ notre Seigneur ? N'êtes-vous pas mon ouvrage dans le Seigneur ?

KJV ¹ Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord?

BAN ² Si, pour les autres, je ne suis pas apôtre, je le suis au moins pour vous ; car vous êtes le sceau de mon apostolat dans le Seigneur.

KJV ² If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.

BAN ³ C'est là ma défense contre ceux qui m'accusent.

KJV ³ Mine answer to them that do examine me is this,

BAN ⁴ N'avons-nous pas le droit de manger et de boire ?

KJV ⁴ Have we not power to eat and to drink?

BAN ⁵ N'avons-nous, pas le droit de mener avec nous une femme d'entre nos soeurs, comme font les autres apôtres, et les frères du Seigneur, et Céphas ?

KJV ⁵ Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

BAN ⁶ Ou, n'y a-t-il que moi seul et Barnabas, qui n'ayons pas le droit de ne point travailler ?

KJV ⁶ Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working?

BAN ⁷ Qui est-ce qui va jamais à la guerre à ses propres dépens ? Qui est-ce qui plante une vigne, et n'en mange pas le fruit ? Ou qui est-ce qui paît un troupeau, et ne mange pas du lait du troupeau ?

KJV ⁷ Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?

BAN ⁸ Est-ce selon l'homme que je dis ces choses ? la loi ne les dit-elle pas aussi ?

KJV ⁸ Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?

BAN ⁹ Car il est écrit dans la loi de Moïse : Tu n'emmuselleras point le boeuf qui foule le grain. Est-ce des boeufs que Dieu prend soin ?

KJV ⁹ For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?

BAN ¹⁰ Ou n'est-ce pas entièrement à cause de nous qu'il le dit ? En effet, il est écrit à cause de nous que celui qui laboure, doit labourer dans l'espérance, et celui qui foule le grain, avec l'espérance d'y avoir part.

KJV ¹⁰ Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.

BAN ¹¹ Si nous avons semé parmi vous les biens spirituels, est-ce une si grande chose que nous moissonnions de vos biens charnels ?

KJV ¹¹ If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?

BAN ¹² Si d'autres participent à ce droit sur vous, n'y participerons-nous pas plutôt ? Cependant nous n'avons point usé de ce droit ; mais nous souffrons tout, afin de n'apporter aucun obstacle à l'Evangile de Christ.

KJV ¹² If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.

BAN ¹³ Ne savez-vous pas que ceux qui font le service sacré mangent des choses sacrées ; et que ceux qui servent à l'autel ont part à l'autel ?

KJV ¹³ Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?

BAN ¹⁴ De même aussi, le Seigneur a ordonné que ceux qui annoncent l'Evangile vivent de l'Evangile.

KJV ¹⁴ Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.

BAN ¹⁵ Mais, pour moi, je n'ai usé d'aucune de ces choses ; et je n'écris point ceci, afin qu'on en use ainsi envers moi ; car il serait meilleur pour moi de mourir, que si quelqu'un anéantissait ce sujet de gloire.

KJV ¹⁵ But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.

BAN ¹⁶ En effet, si je prêche l'Evangile, je n'ai pas sujet de m'en glorifier, parce que la nécessité m'en est imposée ; car malheur à moi, si je ne prêche pas l'Evangile !

KJV ¹⁶ For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

BAN ¹⁷ Car si je le fais de bon coeur, j'en ai la récompense, mais si je le fais à contre-coeur, la charge m'en est commise.

KJV ¹⁷ For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.

BAN ¹⁸ Quelle est donc ma récompense ? C'est qu'en prêchant l'Evangile j'établis gratuitement l'Evangile, sans me prévaloir de mon droit dans l'Evangile.

KJV ¹⁸ What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

BAN ¹⁹ Car, quoique je sois libre à l'égard de tous, je me suis assujetti à tous, afin d'en gagner un plus grand nombre.

KJV ¹⁹ For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

BAN ²⁰ J'ai été avec les Juifs comme Juif, afin de gagner les Juifs ; avec ceux qui sont sous la loi comme sous la loi, bien que je ne sois pas moi-même sous la loi, afin de gagner ceux qui sont sous la loi ;

KJV ²⁰ And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;

BAN ²¹ avec ceux qui sont sans loi, comme sans loi (quoique je ne sois point sans loi à l'égard de Dieu, je suis sous la loi de Christ), afin de gagner ceux qui sont sans loi ;

KJV ²¹ To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.

BAN ²² j'ai été faible avec les faibles, afin de gagner les faibles ; je me suis fait tout à tous, afin d'en sauver de toute manière quelques-uns.

KJV ²² To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

BAN ²³ Et je fais toutes choses à cause de l'Evangile, afin d'y avoir part.

KJV ²³ And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

BAN ²⁴ Ne savez-vous pas que ceux qui courent dans la lice, courent tous, mais qu'il n'y en a qu'un qui reçoit le prix ? Courez de manière que vous le remportiez.

KJV ²⁴ Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

BAN ²⁵ Tout homme qui combat s'abstient de tout ; et ceux-là le font, pour avoir une couronne corruptible ; mais nous, pour en avoir une incorruptible.

KJV ²⁵ And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

BAN ²⁶ Je cours donc, ainsi, non comme à l'aventure ; je frappe, non comme battant l'air ;

KJV ²⁶ I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

BAN ²⁷ mais je traite durement mon corps, et je le tiens assujetti ; de peur qu'après avoir prêché aux autres, je ne sois moi-même réprouvé

KJV ²⁷ But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
