BCC ¹ Voici qu'un homme de Dieu arriva, dans la parole de Yahweh, de Juda à Béthel, pendant que Jéroboam se tenait à l'autel pour mettre le feu aux victimes.

BCC ² Il cria contre l'autel, dans la parole de Yahweh, et il dit : « Autel ! Autel ! Ainsi parle Yahweh : Il naîtra un fils à la maison de David ; son nom sera Josias ; il immolera sur toi les prêtres des hauts lieux qui mettent sur toi le feu aux victimes, et l'on brûlera sur toi des ossements d'hommes ! »

KJV ² And he cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men's bones shall be burnt upon thee.

WLC ² וַיִּקְרָ֤א עַל־ הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ בִּדְבַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ מִזְבֵּ֣חַ מִזְבֵּ֔חַ כֹּ֖ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֑ה הִנֵּֽה־ בֵ֞ן נוֹלָ֤ד לְבֵית־ דָּוִד֙ יֹאשִׁיָּ֣הוּ שְׁמ֔וֹ וְזָבַ֣ח עָלֶ֗יךָ אֶת־ כֹּהֲנֵ֤י הַבָּמוֹת֙ הַמַּקְטִרִ֣ים עָלֶ֔יךָ וְעַצְמ֥וֹת אָדָ֖ם יִשְׂרְפ֥וּ עָלֶֽיךָ׃

BCC ³ Et le même jour il donna un signe, en disant : « Tel est le signe que Yahweh a parlé : voici que l'autel se fendra, et la cendre qui est dessus sera répandue. »

KJV ³ And he gave a sign the same day, saying, This is the sign which the LORD hath spoken; Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.

VULC ³ Deditque in illa die signum, dicens : Hoc erit signum quod locutus est Dominus : ecce altare scindetur, et effundetur cinis qui in eo est.

WLC ³ וְנָתַן֩ בַּיּ֨וֹם הַה֤וּא מוֹפֵת֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר זֶ֣ה הַמּוֹפֵ֔ת אֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֣ר יְהוָ֑ה הִנֵּ֤ה הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ נִקְרָ֔ע וְנִשְׁפַּ֖ךְ הַדֶּ֥שֶׁן אֲשֶׁר־ עָלָֽיו׃

BCC ⁴ Lorsque le roi Jéroboam entendit la parole que l'homme de Dieu avait criée contre l'autel de Béthel, il avança la main de dessus l'autel, en disant : « Saisissez-le ! » Et la main qu'il avait étendue contre lui devint sèche, et il ne put la ramener à soi.

KJV ⁴ And it came to pass, when king Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had cried against the altar in Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him.

VULC ⁴ Cumque audisset rex sermonem hominis Dei quem inclamaverat contra altare in Bethel, extendit manum suam de altari, dicens : Apprehendite eum. Et exaruit manus ejus quam extenderat contra eum, nec valuit retrahere eam ad se.

WLC ⁴ וַיְהִי֩ כִשְׁמֹ֨עַ הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אֶת־ דְּבַ֣ר אִישׁ־ הָאֱלֹהִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר קָרָ֤א עַל־ הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ בְּבֵֽית־ אֵ֔ל וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח יָרָבְעָ֧ם אֶת־ יָד֛וֹ מֵעַ֥ל הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ לֵאמֹ֣ר ׀ תִּפְשֻׂ֑הוּ וַתִּיבַ֤שׁ יָדוֹ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁלַ֣ח עָלָ֔יו וְלֹ֥א יָכֹ֖ל לַהֲשִׁיבָ֥הּ אֵלָֽיו׃

BCC ⁵ L'autel se fendit, et la cendre se répandit de dessus l'autel, selon le signe qu'avait donné l'homme de Dieu, dans la parole de Yahweh.

KJV ⁵ The altar also was rent, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.

VULC ⁵ Altare quoque scissum est, et effusus est cinis de altari, juxta signum quod prædixerat vir Dei in sermone Domini.

WLC ⁵ וְהַמִּזְבֵּ֣חַ נִקְרָ֔ע וַיִּשָּׁפֵ֥ךְ הַדֶּ֖שֶׁן מִן־ הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ כַּמּוֹפֵ֗ת אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָתַ֛ן אִ֥ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים בִּדְבַ֥ר יְהוָֽה׃

BCC ⁶ Le roi prit la parole et dit à l'homme de Dieu : « Apaise Yahweh, ton Dieu, et prie pour moi, afin que ma main revienne à moi. » L'homme de Dieu apaisa Yahweh, et le roi put ramener à lui sa main, qui devint comme auparavant.

KJV ⁶ And the king answered and said unto the man of God, Intreat now the face of the LORD thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again. And the man of God besought the LORD, and the king's hand was restored him again, and became as it was before.

BCC ⁷ Le roi dit à l'homme de Dieu : « Entre avec moi dans la maison et ranime-toi, et je te donnerai un présent. »

KJV ⁷ And the king said unto the man of God, Come home with me, and refresh thyself, and I will give thee a reward.

VULC ⁷ Locutus est autem rex ad virum Dei : Veni mecum domum ut prandeas, et dabo tibi munera.

BCC ⁸ L'homme de Dieu répondit au roi : « Quand tu me donnerais la moitié de ta maison, je n'entrerais pas avec toi, et je ne mangerais pas de pain ni ne boirais d'eau dans ce lieu ;

KJV ⁸ And the man of God said unto the king, If thou wilt give me half thine house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place:

VULC ⁸ Responditque vir Dei ad regem : Si dederis mihi mediam partem domus tuæ, non veniam tecum, nec comedam panem, neque bibam aquam in loco isto :

WLC ⁸ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אִישׁ־ הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ אֶל־ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אִם־ תִּתֶּן־ לִי֙ אֶת־ חֲצִ֣י בֵיתֶ֔ךָ לֹ֥א אָבֹ֖א עִמָּ֑ךְ וְלֹֽא־ אֹ֤כַל לֶ֙חֶם֙ וְלֹ֣א אֶשְׁתֶּה־ מַּ֔יִם בַּמָּק֖וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃

BCC ⁹ car cet ordre m'a été donné dans la parole de Yahweh : Tu ne mangeras pas de pain et tu ne boiras pas d'eau, et tu ne reviendras pas par le chemin par lequel tu seras allé. »

KJV ⁹ For so was it charged me by the word of the LORD, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest.

VULC ⁹ sic enim mandatum est mihi in sermone Domini præcipientis : Non comedes panem, neque bibes aquam, nec reverteris per viam qua venisti.

BCC ¹⁰ Il s'en alla donc par un autre chemin, et il ne s'en retourna pas par le chemin par lequel il était venu à Béthel.

KJV ¹⁰ So he went another way, and returned not by the way that he came to Bethel.

VULC ¹⁰ Abiit ergo per aliam viam, et non est reversus per iter quo venerat in Bethel.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ אַחֵ֑ר וְלֹֽא־ שָׁ֣ב בַּדֶּ֔רֶךְ אֲשֶׁ֛ר בָּ֥א בָ֖הּ אֶל־ בֵּֽית־ אֵֽל׃

BCC ¹¹ Or il y avait un vieux prophète qui demeurait à Béthel ; ses fils vinrent lui raconter toutes les choses que l'homme de Dieu avait faites ce jour-là à Béthel ; ils rapportèrent aussi à leur père les paroles qu'il avait dites au roi.

KJV ¹¹ Now there dwelt an old prophet in Bethel; and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel: the words which he had spoken unto the king, them they told also to their father.

BCC ¹⁴ Il alla après l'homme de Dieu et, l'ayant trouvé assis sous le térébinthe, il lui dit : « es-tu l'homme de Dieu qui est venu de Juda ? » Il répondit : « je le suis. »

KJV ¹⁴ And went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak: and he said unto him, Art thou the man of God that camest from Judah? And he said, I am.

BCC ¹⁹ L'homme de Dieu retourna avec lui, et il mangea du pain et but de l'eau dans sa maison.

BCC ²⁰ Comme ils étaient assis à table, la parole de Yahweh fut adressée au prophète qui l'avait ramené ;

KJV ²⁰ And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of the LORD came unto the prophet that brought him back:

VULC ²⁰ Cumque sederent ad mensam, factus est sermo Domini ad prophetam qui reduxerat eum.

WLC ²⁰ וַיְהִ֕י הֵ֥ם יֹשְׁבִ֖ים אֶל־ הַשֻּׁלְחָ֑ן וַֽיְהִי֙ דְּבַר־ יְהוָ֔ה אֶל־ הַנָּבִ֖יא אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֱשִׁיבֽוֹ׃

BCC ²¹ et il cria à l'homme qui était venu de Juda, en ces termes : « Ainsi parle Yahweh : Parce que tu as été rebelle à l'ordre de Yahweh, et que tu n'as pas observé le commandement que Yahweh, ton Dieu, t'avait prescrit ;

KJV ²¹ And he cried unto the man of God that came from Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the LORD, and hast not kept the commandment which the LORD thy God commanded thee,

BCC ²² parce que tu es retourné, et que tu as mangé du pain et bu de l'eau dans le lieu dont Yahweh t'avait dit : Tu n'y mangeras pas de pain et n'y boiras pas d'eau, ‒ ton cadavre n'entrera point dans le sépulcre de tes pères. »

KJV ²² But camest back, and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place, of the which the Lord did say to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy carcase shall not come unto the sepulchre of thy fathers.

VULC ²² et reversus es, et comedisti panem, et bibisti aquam in loco in quo præcepit tibi ne comederes panem neque biberes aquam, non inferetur cadaver tuum in sepulchrum patrum tuorum.

BCC ²³ Après qu'il eut mangé du pain et qu'il eut bu, le vieux prophète sella l'âne pour lui, savoir, pour le prophète qu'il avait ramené.

BCC ²⁴ L'homme de Dieu s'en étant allé, il fut rencontré sur le chemin par un lion, qui le mit à mort. Pendant que son cadavre était étendu sur le chemin, l'âne resta à côté de lui, et le lion resta à côté du cadavre.

KJV ²⁴ And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him: and his carcase was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the carcase.

VULC ²⁴ Qui cum abiisset, invenit eum leo in via, et occidit, et erat cadaver ejus projectum in itinere : asinus autem stabat juxta illum, et leo stabat juxta cadaver.

WLC ²⁴ וַיֵּ֕לֶךְ וַיִּמְצָאֵ֧הוּ אַרְיֵ֛ה בַּדֶּ֖רֶךְ וַיְמִיתֵ֑הוּ וַתְּהִ֤י נִבְלָתוֹ֙ מֻשְׁלֶ֣כֶת בַּדֶּ֔רֶךְ וְהַחֲמוֹר֙ עֹמֵ֣ד אֶצְלָ֔הּ וְהָ֣אַרְיֵ֔ה עֹמֵ֖ד אֵ֥צֶל הַנְּבֵלָֽה׃

BCC ²⁵ Et voici, des gens qui passaient virent le cadavre étendu sur le chemin et le lion se tenant à côté du cadavre, et ils en parlèrent à leur arrivée dans la ville où demeurait le vieux prophète.

KJV ²⁵ And, behold, men passed by, and saw the carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing by the carcase: and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.

VULC ²⁵ Et ecce viri transeuntes viderunt cadaver projectum in via, et leonem stantem juxta cadaver. Et venerunt, et divulgaverunt in civitate in qua prophetes ille senex habitabat.

WLC ²⁵ וְהִנֵּ֧ה אֲנָשִׁ֣ים עֹבְרִ֗ים וַיִּרְא֤וּ אֶת־ הַנְּבֵלָה֙ מֻשְׁלֶ֣כֶת בַּדֶּ֔רֶךְ וְאֶת־ הָ֣אַרְיֵ֔ה עֹמֵ֖ד אֵ֣צֶל הַנְּבֵלָ֑ה וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ וַיְדַבְּר֣וּ בָעִ֔יר אֲשֶׁ֛ר הַנָּבִ֥יא הַזָּקֵ֖ן יֹשֵׁ֥ב בָּֽהּ׃

BCC ²⁶ Lorsque le prophète qui avait ramené du chemin l'homme de Dieu, l'eut appris, il dit : « C'est l'homme de Dieu qui a été rebelle à l'ordre de Yahweh, et Yahweh l'a livré au lion qui l'a déchiré et l'a fait mourir, selon la parole que Yahweh lui avait dite. »

KJV ²⁶ And when the prophet that brought him back from the way heard thereof, he said, It is the man of God, who was disobedient unto the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath torn him, and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake unto him.

BCC ²⁸ il partit et trouva le cadavre étendu sur le chemin, et l'âne et le lion qui se tenaient à côté du cadavre. Le lion n'avait pas dévoré le cadavre et n'avait pas déchiré l'âne.

KJV ²⁸ And he went and found his carcase cast in the way, and the ass and the lion standing by the carcase: the lion had not eaten the carcase, nor torn the ass.

VULC ²⁸ et ille abiisset, invenit cadaver ejus projectum in via, et asinum et leonem stantes juxta cadaver : non comedit leo de cadavere, nec læsit asinum.

BCC ²⁹ Le prophète releva le cadavre de l'homme de Dieu et, l'ayant mis sur l'âne, il le ramena, et le vieux prophète rentra dans la ville pour le pleurer et pour l'enterrer.

KJV ²⁹ And the prophet took up the carcase of the man of God, and laid it upon the ass, and brought it back: and the old prophet came to the city, to mourn and to bury him.

KJV ³⁰ And he laid his carcase in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying, Alas, my brother!

BCC ³¹ Lorsqu'il l'eut enterré, il dit à ses fils : « Quand je serai mort, vous m'enterrerez dans le sépulcre où est enterré l'homme de Dieu ; vous déposerez mes os à côté de ses os.

WLC ³¹ וַיְהִי֮ אַחֲרֵ֣י קָבְר֣וֹ אֹתוֹ֒ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֶל־ בָּנָיו֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר בְּמוֹתִי֙ וּקְבַרְתֶּ֣ם אֹתִ֔י בַּקֶּ֕בֶר אֲשֶׁ֛ר אִ֥ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים קָב֣וּר בּ֑וֹ אֵ֚צֶל עַצְמֹתָ֔יו הַנִּ֖יחוּ אֶת־ עַצְמֹתָֽי׃

BCC ³² Car elle s'accomplira la parole qu'il a criée, dans la parole de Yahweh, contre l'autel qui est à Béthel, et contre toutes les maisons de hauts lieux qui sont dans les villes de Samarie. »

KJV ³² For the saying which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.

WLC ³² כִּי֩ הָיֹ֨ה יִהְיֶ֜ה הַדָּבָ֗ר אֲשֶׁ֤ר קָרָא֙ בִּדְבַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה עַל־ הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּבֵֽית־ אֵ֑ל וְעַל֙ כָּל־ בָּתֵּ֣י הַבָּמ֔וֹת אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּעָרֵ֥י שֹׁמְרֽוֹן׃

BCC ³³ Après cet événement, Jéroboam ne se détourna pas de sa voie mauvaise ; de nouveau il créa des prêtres des hauts lieux pris parmi le peuple ; quiconque le désirait, il le consacrait et celui-ci devenait prêtre des hauts lieux.

KJV ³³ After this thing Jeroboam returned not from his evil way, but made again of the lowest of the people priests of the high places: whosoever would, he consecrated him, and he became one of the priests of the high places.

WLC ³³ אַחַר֙ הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה לֹֽא־ שָׁ֥ב יָרָבְעָ֖ם מִדַּרְכּ֣וֹ הָרָעָ֑ה וַ֠יָּשָׁב וַיַּ֜עַשׂ מִקְצ֤וֹת הָעָם֙ כֹּהֲנֵ֣י בָמ֔וֹת הֶֽחָפֵץ֙ יְמַלֵּ֣א אֶת־ יָד֔וֹ וִיהִ֖י כֹּהֲנֵ֥י בָמֽוֹת׃

BCC ³⁴ En cela il y eut péché pour la maison de Jéroboam, et c'est pourquoi elle fut détruite et exterminée de la face de la terre.

KJV ³⁴ And this thing became sin unto the house of Jeroboam, even to cut it off, and to destroy it from off the face of the earth.

VULC ³⁴ Et propter hanc causam peccavit domus Jeroboam, et eversa est, et deleta de superficie terræ.

WLC ³⁴ וַיְהִי֙ בַּדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה לְחַטַּ֖את בֵּ֣ית יָרָבְעָ֑ם וּלְהַכְחִיד֙ וּלְהַשְׁמִ֔יד מֵעַ֖ל פְּנֵ֥י הָאֲדָמָֽה׃
