BAN ¹ Et Elie le Thisbite, d'entre les habitants de Galaad, dit à Achab : L'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, devant qui je me tiens, est vivant, qu'il n'y aura ces années-ci ni rosée ni pluie sinon à ma parole.

KJV ¹ And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

WLC ¹ וַיֹּאמֶר֩ אֵלִיָּ֨הוּ הַתִּשְׁבִּ֜י מִתֹּשָׁבֵ֣י גִלְעָד֮ אֶל־ אַחְאָב֒ חַי־ יְהוָ֞ה אֱלֹהֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָמַ֣דְתִּי לְפָנָ֔יו אִם־ יִהְיֶ֛ה הַשָּׁנִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה טַ֣ל וּמָטָ֑ר כִּ֖י אִם־ לְפִ֥י דְבָרִֽי׃

BAN ² Et la parole de l'Eternel lui fut adressée, disant :

KJV ² And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

WLC ² וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־ יְהוָ֖ה אֵלָ֥יו לֵאמֹֽר׃

BAN ³ Va-t'en d'ici et tourne-toi vers l'orient, et cache-toi au torrent de Kérith, qui est à l'orient du Jourdain.

KJV ³ Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

WLC ³ לֵ֣ךְ מִזֶּ֔ה וּפָנִ֥יתָ לְּךָ֖ קֵ֑דְמָה וְנִסְתַּרְתָּ֙ בְּנַ֣חַל כְּרִ֔ית אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־ פְּנֵ֥י הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃

BAN ⁴ Et tu boiras de l'eau du torrent, et j'ai commandé aux corbeaux de te nourrir là.

KJV ⁴ And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

WLC ⁴ וְהָיָ֖ה מֵהַנַּ֣חַל תִּשְׁתֶּ֑ה וְאֶת־ הָעֹרְבִ֣ים צִוִּ֔יתִי לְכַלְכֶּלְךָ֖ שָֽׁם׃

BAN ⁵ Et il s'en alla et fit selon la parole de l'Eternel : il s'en alla et demeura au torrent de Kérith qui est à l'orient du Jourdain.

KJV ⁵ So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

WLC ⁵ וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ וַיַּ֖עַשׂ כִּדְבַ֣ר יְהוָ֑ה וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ וַיֵּ֙שֶׁב֙ בְּנַ֣חַל כְּרִ֔ית אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־ פְּנֵ֥י הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃

BAN ⁶ Et les corbeaux lui apportaient du pain et de la chair le matin, et du pain et de la chair le soir, et il buvait du torrent.

KJV ⁶ And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

WLC ⁶ וְהָעֹרְבִ֗ים מְבִיאִ֨ים ל֜וֹ לֶ֤חֶם וּבָשָׂר֙ בַּבֹּ֔קֶר וְלֶ֥חֶם וּבָשָׂ֖ר בָּעָ֑רֶב וּמִן־ הַנַּ֖חַל יִשְׁתֶּֽה׃

BAN ⁷ Et au bout de quelque temps le torrent sécha, car il n'y avait pas de pluie au pays.

KJV ⁷ And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

WLC ⁷ וַיְהִ֛י מִקֵּ֥ץ יָמִ֖ים וַיִּיבַ֣שׁ הַנָּ֑חַל כִּ֛י לֹֽא־ הָיָ֥ה גֶ֖שֶׁם בָּאָֽרֶץ׃

BAN ⁸ Et la parole de l'Eternel lui fut adressée, disant :

KJV ⁸ And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

WLC ⁸ וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־ יְהוָ֖ה אֵלָ֥יו לֵאמֹֽר׃

BAN ⁹ Lève-toi, va-t'en à Sarepta, qui appartient à Sidon, et demeure là ; voici, j'ai chargé là une femme veuve de te nourrir.

KJV ⁹ Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

WLC ⁹ ק֣וּם לֵ֤ךְ צָרְפַ֙תָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לְצִיד֔וֹן וְיָשַׁבְתָּ֖ שָׁ֑ם הִנֵּ֨ה צִוִּ֥יתִי שָׁ֛ם אִשָּׁ֥ה אַלְמָנָ֖ה לְכַלְכְּלֶֽךָ׃

BAN ¹⁰ Et il se leva et s'en alla à Sarepta ; et il arriva à l'entrée de la ville, et voici [il y avait] là une veuve qui ramassait du bois ; et il lui cria et dit : Va me chercher, je te prie, un peu d'eau dans un vase afin que je boive.

KJV ¹⁰ So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיָּ֣קָם ׀ וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ צָרְפַ֗תָה וַיָּבֹא֙ אֶל־ פֶּ֣תַח הָעִ֔יר וְהִנֵּֽה־ שָׁ֛ם אִשָּׁ֥ה אַלְמָנָ֖ה מְקֹשֶׁ֣שֶׁת עֵצִ֑ים וַיִּקְרָ֤א אֵלֶ֙יהָ֙ וַיֹּאמַ֔ר קְחִי־ נָ֨א לִ֧י מְעַט־ מַ֛יִם בַּכְּלִ֖י וְאֶשְׁתֶּֽה׃

BAN ¹¹ Et comme elle s'en allait en chercher, il lui cria et dit : Apporte-moi dans ta main, je te prie, un morceau de pain.

KJV ¹¹ And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.

WLC ¹¹ וַתֵּ֖לֶךְ לָקַ֑חַת וַיִּקְרָ֤א אֵלֶ֙יהָ֙ וַיֹּאמַ֔ר לִֽקְחִי־ נָ֥א לִ֛י פַּת־ לֶ֖חֶם בְּיָדֵֽךְ׃

BAN ¹² Et elle dit : L'Eternel ton Dieu est vivant, que je n'ai pas un morceau de pain cuit, rien qu'une poignée de farine dans le pot et un peu d'huile dans la cruche ; et voici, je ramasse deux morceaux de bois, afin que je rentre et que je prépare cela pour moi et pour mon fils ; puis nous le mangerons et nous mourrons.

KJV ¹² And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

WLC ¹² וַתֹּ֗אמֶר חַי־ יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ אִם־ יֶשׁ־ לִ֣י מָע֔וֹג כִּ֣י אִם־ מְלֹ֤א כַף־ קֶ֙מַח֙ בַּכַּ֔ד וּמְעַט־ שֶׁ֖מֶן בַּצַּפָּ֑חַת וְהִנְנִ֨י מְקֹשֶׁ֜שֶׁת שְׁנַ֣יִם עֵצִ֗ים וּבָ֙אתִי֙ וַעֲשִׂיתִ֙יהוּ֙ לִ֣י וְלִבְנִ֔י וַאֲכַלְנֻ֖הוּ וָמָֽתְנוּ׃

BAN ¹³ Et Elie lui dit : Ne crains point ! va, fais comme tu as dit ; seulement fais-m'en d'abord un petit gâteau et apporte-le moi, et ensuite tu en prépareras pour toi et ton fils.

KJV ¹³ And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

WLC ¹³ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלֶ֤יהָ אֵלִיָּ֙הוּ֙ אַל־ תִּ֣ירְאִ֔י בֹּ֖אִי עֲשִׂ֣י כִדְבָרֵ֑ךְ אַ֣ךְ עֲשִׂי־ לִ֣י מִ֠שָּׁם עֻגָ֨ה קְטַנָּ֤ה בָרִאשֹׁנָה֙ וְהוֹצֵ֣אתְ לִ֔י וְלָ֣ךְ וְלִבְנֵ֔ךְ תַּעֲשִׂ֖י בָּאַחֲרֹנָֽה׃

BAN ¹⁴ Car ainsi a dit l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël : Le pot de farine ne s'épuisera pas et la cruche d'huile ne fera pas défaut jusqu'au jour où l'Eternel donnera de la pluie sur la face de la terre.

KJV ¹⁴ For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.

WLC ¹⁴ כִּ֣י כֹה֩ אָמַ֨ר יְהוָ֜ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל כַּ֤ד הַקֶּ֙מַח֙ לֹ֣א תִכְלָ֔ה וְצַפַּ֥חַת הַשֶּׁ֖מֶן לֹ֣א תֶחְסָ֑ר עַ֠ד י֧וֹם יְהוָ֛ה גֶּ֖שֶׁם עַל־ פְּנֵ֥י הָאֲדָמָֽה׃

BAN ¹⁵ Et elle s'en alla et fit selon la parole d'Elie. Et ils mangèrent, lui et elle, et sa maison, pendant quelque temps.

KJV ¹⁵ And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

WLC ¹⁵ וַתֵּ֥לֶךְ וַתַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה כִּדְבַ֣ר אֵלִיָּ֑הוּ וַתֹּ֧אכַל וּבֵיתָ֖הּ יָמִֽים׃

BAN ¹⁶ Le pot de farine ne s'épuisa pas et la cruche d'huile ne fit pas défaut, selon la parole de l'Eternel, qu'il avait dite par Elie.

KJV ¹⁶ And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.

WLC ¹⁶ כַּ֤ד הַקֶּ֙מַח֙ לֹ֣א כָלָ֔תָה וְצַפַּ֥חַת הַשֶּׁ֖מֶן לֹ֣א חָסֵ֑ר כִּדְבַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבֶּ֖ר בְּיַ֥ד אֵלִיָּֽהוּ׃

BAN ¹⁷ Et il arriva, après ces choses, que le fils de la femme, maîtresse de la maison, tomba malade, et sa maladie s'aggrava tellement qu'il ne resta plus de souffle en lui.

KJV ¹⁷ And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.

WLC ¹⁷ וַיְהִ֗י אַחַר֙ הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה חָלָ֕ה בֶּן־ הָאִשָּׁ֖ה בַּעֲלַ֣ת הַבָּ֑יִת וַיְהִ֤י חָלְיוֹ֙ חָזָ֣ק מְאֹ֔ד עַ֛ד אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־ נֽוֹתְרָה־ בּ֖וֹ נְשָׁמָֽה׃

BAN ¹⁸ Et elle dit à Elie : Qu'y a-t-il entre moi et toi, homme de Dieu ? Es-tu venu chez moi pour remettre en mémoire mon iniquité et faire mourir mon fils ?

KJV ¹⁸ And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?

WLC ¹⁸ וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־ אֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ מַה־ לִּ֥י וָלָ֖ךְ אִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים בָּ֧אתָ אֵלַ֛י לְהַזְכִּ֥יר אֶת־ עֲוֺנִ֖י וּלְהָמִ֥ית אֶת־ בְּנִֽי׃

BAN ¹⁹ Et il lui dit : Donne-moi ton fils. Et il le prit sur son sein et le porta dans la chambre haute où il habitait et le coucha sur son lit.

KJV ¹⁹ And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

WLC ¹⁹ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֵלֶ֖יהָ תְּנִֽי־ לִ֣י אֶת־ בְּנֵ֑ךְ וַיִּקָּחֵ֣הוּ מֵחֵיקָ֗הּ וַֽיַּעֲלֵ֙הוּ֙ אֶל־ הָעֲלִיָּ֗ה אֲשֶׁר־ הוּא֙ יֹשֵׁ֣ב שָׁ֔ם וַיַּשְׁכִּבֵ֖הוּ עַל־ מִטָּתֽוֹ׃

BAN ²⁰ Et il cria à l'Eternel et dit : O Eternel, mon Dieu, as-tu fait ce mal même à la veuve chez laquelle j'habite, de faire mourir son fils ?

KJV ²⁰ And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

WLC ²⁰ וַיִּקְרָ֥א אֶל־ יְהוָ֖ה וַיֹּאמַ֑ר יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֔י הֲ֠גַם עַל־ הָאַלְמָנָ֞ה אֲשֶׁר־ אֲנִ֨י מִתְגּוֹרֵ֥ר עִמָּ֛הּ הֲרֵע֖וֹתָ לְהָמִ֥ית אֶת־ בְּנָֽהּ׃

BAN ²¹ Et il s'étendit sur l'enfant trois fois, et il cria à l'Eternel et dit : Eternel, mon Dieu ! fais revenir, je te prie, l'âme de cet enfant au-dedans de lui.

KJV ²¹ And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.

WLC ²¹ וַיִּתְמֹדֵ֤ד עַל־ הַיֶּ֙לֶד֙ שָׁלֹ֣שׁ פְּעָמִ֔ים וַיִּקְרָ֥א אֶל־ יְהוָ֖ה וַיֹּאמַ֑ר יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֔י תָּ֥שָׁב נָ֛א נֶֽפֶשׁ־ הַיֶּ֥לֶד הַזֶּ֖ה עַל־ קִרְבּֽוֹ׃

BAN ²² Et l'Eternel écouta la voix d'Elie, et l'âme de l'enfant revint au-dedans de lui, et il vécut.

KJV ²² And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

WLC ²² וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע יְהוָ֖ה בְּק֣וֹל אֵלִיָּ֑הוּ וַתָּ֧שָׁב נֶֽפֶשׁ־ הַיֶּ֛לֶד עַל־ קִרְבּ֖וֹ וַיֶּֽחִי׃

BAN ²³ Et Elie prit l'enfant et le rapporta de la chambre haute dans la maison et le donna à sa mère. Et Elie dit : Vois, ton fils vit.

KJV ²³ And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.

WLC ²³ וַיִּקַּ֨ח אֵלִיָּ֜הוּ אֶת־ הַיֶּ֗לֶד וַיֹּרִדֵ֤הוּ מִן־ הָעֲלִיָּה֙ הַבַּ֔יְתָה וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖הוּ לְאִמּ֑וֹ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ רְאִ֖י חַ֥י בְּנֵֽךְ׃

BAN ²⁴ Et la femme dit à Elie : Maintenant je reconnais que tu es un homme de Dieu et que la parole de l'Eternel qui est dans ta bouche est la vérité.

KJV ²⁴ And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.

WLC ²⁴ וַתֹּ֤אמֶר הָֽאִשָּׁה֙ אֶל־ אֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ עַתָּה֙ זֶ֣ה יָדַ֔עְתִּי כִּ֛י אִ֥ישׁ אֱלֹהִ֖ים אָ֑תָּה וּדְבַר־ יְהוָ֥ה בְּפִ֖יךָ אֱמֶֽת׃
