KJV ¹ And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

VULC ¹ Et dixit Elias Thesbites de habitatoribus Galaad ad Achab : Vivit Dominus Deus Israël, in cujus conspectu sto, si erit annis his ros et pluvia, nisi juxta oris mei verba.

KJV ² And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

VULC ² Et factum est verbum Domini ad eum, dicens :

WLC ² וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־ יְהוָ֖ה אֵלָ֥יו לֵאמֹֽר׃

KJV ³ Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

VULC ³ Recede hinc, et vade contra orientem, et abscondere in torrente Carith, qui est contra Jordanem,

WLC ³ לֵ֣ךְ מִזֶּ֔ה וּפָנִ֥יתָ לְּךָ֖ קֵ֑דְמָה וְנִסְתַּרְתָּ֙ בְּנַ֣חַל כְּרִ֔ית אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־ פְּנֵ֥י הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃

KJV ⁴ And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

VULC ⁴ et ibi de torrente bibes : corvisque præcepi ut pascant te ibi.

WLC ⁴ וְהָיָ֖ה מֵהַנַּ֣חַל תִּשְׁתֶּ֑ה וְאֶת־ הָעֹרְבִ֣ים צִוִּ֔יתִי לְכַלְכֶּלְךָ֖ שָֽׁם׃

KJV ⁵ So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

VULC ⁵ Abiit ergo, et fecit juxta verbum Domini : cumque abiisset, sedit in torrente Carith, qui est contra Jordanem.

WLC ⁵ וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ וַיַּ֖עַשׂ כִּדְבַ֣ר יְהוָ֑ה וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ וַיֵּ֙שֶׁב֙ בְּנַ֣חַל כְּרִ֔ית אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־ פְּנֵ֥י הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃

KJV ⁶ And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

VULC ⁶ Corvi quoque deferebant ei panem et carnes mane, similiter panem et carnes vesperi, et bibebat de torrente.

WLC ⁶ וְהָעֹרְבִ֗ים מְבִיאִ֨ים ל֜וֹ לֶ֤חֶם וּבָשָׂר֙ בַּבֹּ֔קֶר וְלֶ֥חֶם וּבָשָׂ֖ר בָּעָ֑רֶב וּמִן־ הַנַּ֖חַל יִשְׁתֶּֽה׃

KJV ⁷ And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

VULC ⁷ Post dies autem siccatus est torrens : non enim pluerat super terram.

WLC ⁷ וַיְהִ֛י מִקֵּ֥ץ יָמִ֖ים וַיִּיבַ֣שׁ הַנָּ֑חַל כִּ֛י לֹֽא־ הָיָ֥ה גֶ֖שֶׁם בָּאָֽרֶץ׃

KJV ⁸ And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

VULC ⁸ Factus est ergo sermo Domini ad eum, dicens :

WLC ⁸ וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־ יְהוָ֖ה אֵלָ֥יו לֵאמֹֽר׃

KJV ⁹ Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

VULC ⁹ Surge, et vade in Sarephta Sidoniorum, et manebis ibi : præcepi enim ibi mulieri viduæ ut pascat te.

WLC ⁹ ק֣וּם לֵ֤ךְ צָרְפַ֙תָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לְצִיד֔וֹן וְיָשַׁבְתָּ֖ שָׁ֑ם הִנֵּ֨ה צִוִּ֥יתִי שָׁ֛ם אִשָּׁ֥ה אַלְמָנָ֖ה לְכַלְכְּלֶֽךָ׃

KJV ¹⁰ So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

VULC ¹⁰ Surrexit, et abiit in Sarephta. Cumque venisset ad portam civitatis, apparuit ei mulier vidua colligens ligna, et vocavit eam, dixitque ei : Da mihi paululum aquæ in vase ut bibam.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיָּ֣קָם ׀ וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ צָרְפַ֗תָה וַיָּבֹא֙ אֶל־ פֶּ֣תַח הָעִ֔יר וְהִנֵּֽה־ שָׁ֛ם אִשָּׁ֥ה אַלְמָנָ֖ה מְקֹשֶׁ֣שֶׁת עֵצִ֑ים וַיִּקְרָ֤א אֵלֶ֙יהָ֙ וַיֹּאמַ֔ר קְחִי־ נָ֨א לִ֧י מְעַט־ מַ֛יִם בַּכְּלִ֖י וְאֶשְׁתֶּֽה׃

KJV ¹¹ And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.

VULC ¹¹ Cumque illa pergeret ut afferret, clamavit post tergum ejus, dicens : Affer mihi, obsecro, et buccellam panis in manu tua.

WLC ¹¹ וַתֵּ֖לֶךְ לָקַ֑חַת וַיִּקְרָ֤א אֵלֶ֙יהָ֙ וַיֹּאמַ֔ר לִֽקְחִי־ נָ֥א לִ֛י פַּת־ לֶ֖חֶם בְּיָדֵֽךְ׃

KJV ¹² And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

VULC ¹² Quæ respondit : Vivit Dominus Deus tuus, quia non habeo panem, nisi quantum pugillus capere potest farinæ in hydria, et paululum olei in lecytho : en colligo duo ligna ut ingrediar et faciam illum mihi et filio meo, ut comedamus, et moriamur.

WLC ¹² וַתֹּ֗אמֶר חַי־ יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ אִם־ יֶשׁ־ לִ֣י מָע֔וֹג כִּ֣י אִם־ מְלֹ֤א כַף־ קֶ֙מַח֙ בַּכַּ֔ד וּמְעַט־ שֶׁ֖מֶן בַּצַּפָּ֑חַת וְהִנְנִ֨י מְקֹשֶׁ֜שֶׁת שְׁנַ֣יִם עֵצִ֗ים וּבָ֙אתִי֙ וַעֲשִׂיתִ֙יהוּ֙ לִ֣י וְלִבְנִ֔י וַאֲכַלְנֻ֖הוּ וָמָֽתְנוּ׃

KJV ¹³ And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

VULC ¹³ Ad quam Elias ait : Noli timere, sed vade, et fac sicut dixisti : verumtamen mihi primum fac de ipsa farinula subcinericium panem parvulum, et affer ad me : tibi autem et filio tuo facies postea.

KJV ¹⁴ For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.

VULC ¹⁴ Hæc autem dicit Dominus Deus Israël : Hydria farinæ non deficiet, nec lecythus olei minuetur, usque ad diem in qua Dominus daturus est pluviam super faciem terræ.

WLC ¹⁴ כִּ֣י כֹה֩ אָמַ֨ר יְהוָ֜ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל כַּ֤ד הַקֶּ֙מַח֙ לֹ֣א תִכְלָ֔ה וְצַפַּ֥חַת הַשֶּׁ֖מֶן לֹ֣א תֶחְסָ֑ר עַ֠ד י֧וֹם יְהוָ֛ה גֶּ֖שֶׁם עַל־ פְּנֵ֥י הָאֲדָמָֽה׃

KJV ¹⁵ And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

VULC ¹⁵ Quæ abiit, et fecit juxta verbum Eliæ : et comedit ipse, et illa, et domus ejus : et ex illa die

WLC ¹⁵ וַתֵּ֥לֶךְ וַתַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה כִּדְבַ֣ר אֵלִיָּ֑הוּ וַתֹּ֧אכַל וּבֵיתָ֖הּ יָמִֽים׃

KJV ¹⁷ And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.

VULC ¹⁷ Factum est autem post hæc, ægrotavit filius mulieris matrisfamilias, et erat languor fortissimus, ita ut non remaneret in eo halitus.

WLC ¹⁷ וַיְהִ֗י אַחַר֙ הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה חָלָ֕ה בֶּן־ הָאִשָּׁ֖ה בַּעֲלַ֣ת הַבָּ֑יִת וַיְהִ֤י חָלְיוֹ֙ חָזָ֣ק מְאֹ֔ד עַ֛ד אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־ נֽוֹתְרָה־ בּ֖וֹ נְשָׁמָֽה׃

KJV ¹⁸ And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?

VULC ¹⁸ Dixit ergo ad Eliam : Quid mihi et tibi, vir Dei ? ingressus es ad me, ut rememorarentur iniquitates meæ, et interficeres filium meum ?

WLC ¹⁸ וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־ אֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ מַה־ לִּ֥י וָלָ֖ךְ אִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים בָּ֧אתָ אֵלַ֛י לְהַזְכִּ֥יר אֶת־ עֲוֺנִ֖י וּלְהָמִ֥ית אֶת־ בְּנִֽי׃

KJV ¹⁹ And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

VULC ¹⁹ Et ait ad eam Elias : Da mihi filium tuum. Tulitque eum de sinu ejus, et portavit in cœnaculum ubi ipse manebat, et posuit super lectulum suum.

WLC ¹⁹ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֵלֶ֖יהָ תְּנִֽי־ לִ֣י אֶת־ בְּנֵ֑ךְ וַיִּקָּחֵ֣הוּ מֵחֵיקָ֗הּ וַֽיַּעֲלֵ֙הוּ֙ אֶל־ הָעֲלִיָּ֗ה אֲשֶׁר־ הוּא֙ יֹשֵׁ֣ב שָׁ֔ם וַיַּשְׁכִּבֵ֖הוּ עַל־ מִטָּתֽוֹ׃

KJV ²⁰ And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

VULC ²⁰ Et clamavit ad Dominum, et dixit : Domine Deus meus, etiam ne viduam apud quam ego utcumque sustentor, afflixisti ut interficeres filium ejus ?

WLC ²⁰ וַיִּקְרָ֥א אֶל־ יְהוָ֖ה וַיֹּאמַ֑ר יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֔י הֲ֠גַם עַל־ הָאַלְמָנָ֞ה אֲשֶׁר־ אֲנִ֨י מִתְגּוֹרֵ֥ר עִמָּ֛הּ הֲרֵע֖וֹתָ לְהָמִ֥ית אֶת־ בְּנָֽהּ׃

KJV ²¹ And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.

VULC ²¹ Et expandit se, atque mensus est super puerum tribus vicibus, et clamavit ad Dominum, et ait : Domine Deus meus, revertatur, obsecro, anima pueri hujus in viscera ejus.

WLC ²¹ וַיִּתְמֹדֵ֤ד עַל־ הַיֶּ֙לֶד֙ שָׁלֹ֣שׁ פְּעָמִ֔ים וַיִּקְרָ֥א אֶל־ יְהוָ֖ה וַיֹּאמַ֑ר יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֔י תָּ֥שָׁב נָ֛א נֶֽפֶשׁ־ הַיֶּ֥לֶד הַזֶּ֖ה עַל־ קִרְבּֽוֹ׃

KJV ²² And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

VULC ²² Et exaudivit Dominus vocem Eliæ : et reversa est anima pueri intra eum, et revixit.

WLC ²² וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע יְהוָ֖ה בְּק֣וֹל אֵלִיָּ֑הוּ וַתָּ֧שָׁב נֶֽפֶשׁ־ הַיֶּ֛לֶד עַל־ קִרְבּ֖וֹ וַיֶּֽחִי׃

KJV ²³ And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.

VULC ²³ Tulitque Elias puerum, et deposuit eum de cœnaculo in inferiorem domum, et tradidit matri suæ, et ait illi : En vivit filius tuus.

WLC ²³ וַיִּקַּ֨ח אֵלִיָּ֜הוּ אֶת־ הַיֶּ֗לֶד וַיֹּרִדֵ֤הוּ מִן־ הָעֲלִיָּה֙ הַבַּ֔יְתָה וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖הוּ לְאִמּ֑וֹ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ רְאִ֖י חַ֥י בְּנֵֽךְ׃

KJV ²⁴ And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.

VULC ²⁴ Dixitque mulier ad Eliam : Nunc in isto cognovi quoniam vir Dei es tu, et verbum Domini in ore tuo verum est.

WLC ²⁴ וַתֹּ֤אמֶר הָֽאִשָּׁה֙ אֶל־ אֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ עַתָּה֙ זֶ֣ה יָדַ֔עְתִּי כִּ֛י אִ֥ישׁ אֱלֹהִ֖ים אָ֑תָּה וּדְבַר־ יְהוָ֥ה בְּפִ֖יךָ אֱמֶֽת׃
