KJV ¹ And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;

KJV ² And had taken the women captives, that were therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.

OST ² Et ils avaient fait prisonnières les femmes qui s'y trouvaient, et les petits et les grands; ils n'avaient tué personne, mais ils les avaient emmenés, et s'étaient remis en chemin.

KJV ³ So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.

OST ³ David et ses gens revinrent donc à la ville; et voici, elle était brûlée; et leurs femmes, leurs fils et leurs filles, avaient été faits prisonniers.

VULC ³ Cum ergo venissent David et viri ejus ad civitatem, et invenissent eam succensam igni, et uxores suas, et filios suos et filias, ductas esse captivas,

KJV ⁴ Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.

OST ⁴ Alors David et le peuple qui était avec lui élevèrent la voix, et pleurèrent jusqu'à ce qu'il n'y eût plus en eux de force pour pleurer.

KJV ⁵ And David's two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

OST ⁵ Or les deux femmes de David avaient aussi été faites prisonnières, savoir, Achinoam, de Jizréel, et Abigaïl, de Carmel, femme de Nabal.

VULC ⁵ Siquidem et duæ uxores David captivæ ductæ fuerant, Achinoam Jezrahelites, et Abigail uxor Nabal Carmeli.

WLC ⁵ וּשְׁתֵּ֥י נְשֵֽׁי־ דָוִ֖ד נִשְׁבּ֑וּ אֲחִינֹ֙עַם֙ הַיִּזְרְעֵלִ֔ית וַאֲבִיגַ֕יִל אֵ֖שֶׁת נָבָ֥ל הַֽכַּרְמְלִֽי׃

KJV ⁶ And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

OST ⁶ Et David fut dans une grande détresse, car le peuple parlait de le lapider. Car tout le peuple avait l'âme pleine d'amertume, chacun à cause de ses fils et de ses filles; mais, David se fortifia en l'Éternel son Dieu,

VULC ⁶ Et contristatus est David valde : volebat enim eum populus lapidare, quia amara erat anima uniuscujusque viri super filiis suis et filiabus : confortatus est autem David in Domino Deo suo.

KJV ⁷ And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.

OST ⁷ Et il dit à Abiathar, le sacrificateur, fils d'Achimélec: Apporte-moi, je te prie, l'éphod; et Abiathar apporta l'éphod à David.

WLC ⁷ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֗ד אֶל־ אֶבְיָתָ֤ר הַכֹּהֵן֙ בֶּן־ אֲחִימֶ֔לֶךְ הַגִּֽישָׁה־ נָּ֥א לִ֖י הָאֵפֹ֑ד וַיַּגֵּ֧שׁ אֶבְיָתָ֛ר אֶת־ הָאֵפֹ֖ד אֶל־ דָּוִֽד׃

KJV ⁸ And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.

OST ⁸ Alors David consulta l'Éternel, en disant: Poursuivrai-je cette troupe? l'atteindrai-je? Et il lui répondit: Poursuis; car certainement tu atteindras et tu délivreras.

VULC ⁸ Et consuluit David Dominum, dicens : Persequar latrunculos hos, et comprehendam eos, an non ? Dixitque ei Dominus : Persequere : absque dubio enim comprehendes eos, et excuties prædam.

KJV ⁹ So David went, he and the six hundred men that were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayed.

OST ⁹ David s'en alla donc, avec les six cents hommes qui étaient avec lui; et ils arrivèrent jusqu'au torrent de Bésor, où s'arrêtèrent ceux qui demeuraient en arrière.

KJV ¹⁰ But David pursued, he and four hundred men: for two hundred abode behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor.

KJV ¹¹ And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he did eat; and they made him drink water;

KJV ¹² And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights.

OST ¹² Ils lui donnèrent aussi quelques figues sèches, et deux grappes de raisins secs. Il les mangea donc, et reprit ses esprits; car il n'avait point mangé de pain, ni bu d'eau depuis trois jours et trois nuits.

KJV ¹³ And David said unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he said, I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days agone I fell sick.

OST ¹³ Et David lui dit: A qui es-tu, et d'où es-tu? Et il répondit: Je suis un garçon égyptien, serviteur d'un homme amalécite; et mon maître m'a abandonné, parce que je tombai malade, il y a trois jours.

KJV ¹⁴ We made an invasion upon the south of the Cherethites, and upon the coast which belongeth to Judah, and upon the south of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.

KJV ¹⁵ And David said to him, Canst thou bring me down to this company? And he said, Swear unto me by God, that thou wilt neither kill me, nor deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will bring thee down to this company.

KJV ¹⁶ And when he had brought him down, behold, they were spread abroad upon all the earth, eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.

KJV ¹⁷ And David smote them from the twilight even unto the evening of the next day: and there escaped not a man of them, save four hundred young men, which rode upon camels, and fled.

WLC ¹⁷ וַיַּכֵּ֥ם דָּוִ֛ד מֵהַנֶּ֥שֶׁף וְעַד־ הָעֶ֖רֶב לְמָֽחֳרָתָ֑ם וְלֹֽא־ נִמְלַ֤ט מֵהֶם֙ אִ֔ישׁ כִּי֩ אִם־ אַרְבַּ֨ע מֵא֧וֹת אִֽישׁ־ נַ֛עַר אֲשֶׁר־ רָכְב֥וּ עַל־ הַגְּמַלִּ֖ים וַיָּנֻֽסוּ׃

KJV ¹⁸ And David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away: and David rescued his two wives.

KJV ¹⁹ And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any thing that they had taken to them: David recovered all.

OST ¹⁹ Et il ne leur manqua personne, ni petit, ni grand, ni fils, ni filles, ni rien du butin et de tout ce qu'ils leur avaient emporté; David ramena le tout.

VULC ¹⁹ Nec defuit quidquam a parvo usque ad magnum, tam de filiis quam de filiabus, et de spoliis, et quæcumque rapuerant : omnia reduxit David.

WLC ¹⁹ וְלֹ֣א נֶעְדַּר־ לָ֠הֶם מִן־ הַקָּטֹ֨ן וְעַד־ הַגָּד֜וֹל וְעַד־ בָּנִ֤ים וּבָנוֹת֙ וּמִשָּׁלָ֔ל וְעַ֛ד כָּל־ אֲשֶׁ֥ר לָקְח֖וּ לָהֶ֑ם הַכֹּ֖ל הֵשִׁ֥יב דָּוִֽד׃

KJV ²⁰ And David took all the flocks and the herds, which they drave before those other cattle, and said, This is David's spoil.

OST ²⁰ David reprit aussi tout le gros et le menu bétail; et ses gens marchaient à la tête de ce troupeau et disaient: C'est ici le butin de David.

VULC ²⁰ Et tulit universos greges et armenta, et minavit ante faciem suam : dixeruntque : Hæc est præda David.

WLC ²⁰ וַיִּקַּ֣ח דָּוִ֔ד אֶת־ כָּל־ הַצֹּ֖אן וְהַבָּקָ֑ר נָהֲג֗וּ לִפְנֵי֙ הַמִּקְנֶ֣ה הַה֔וּא וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ זֶ֖ה שְׁלַ֥ל דָּוִֽד׃

KJV ²¹ And David came to the two hundred men, which were so faint that they could not follow David, whom they had made also to abide at the brook Besor: and they went forth to meet David, and to meet the people that were with him: and when David came near to the people, he saluted them.

OST ²¹ Puis David vint vers les deux cents hommes qui avaient été trop fatigués pour suivre David, et qu'il avait fait rester au torrent de Bésor. Et ils sortirent au-devant de David, et au-devant du peuple qui était avec lui. Et David, s'approchant d'eux, leur demanda comment ils se portaient.

VULC ²¹ Venit autem David ad ducentos viros qui lassi substiterant, nec sequi potuerant David, et residere eos jusserat in torrente Besor : qui egressi sunt obviam David et populo qui erat cum eo. Accedens autem David ad populum, salutavit eos pacifice.

WLC ²¹ וַיָּבֹ֣א דָוִ֗ד אֶל־ מָאתַ֨יִם הָאֲנָשִׁ֜ים אֲשֶֽׁר־ פִּגְּר֣וּ ׀ מִלֶּ֣כֶת ׀ אַחֲרֵ֣י דָוִ֗ד וַיֹּֽשִׁיבֻם֙ בְּנַ֣חַל הַבְּשׂ֔וֹר וַיֵּֽצְאוּ֙ לִקְרַ֣את דָּוִ֔ד וְלִקְרַ֖את הָעָ֣ם אֲשֶׁר־ אִתּ֑וֹ וַיִּגַּ֤שׁ דָּוִד֙ אֶת־ הָעָ֔ם וַיִּשְׁאַ֥ל לָהֶ֖ם לְשָׁלֽוֹם׃

KJV ²² Then answered all the wicked men and men of Belial, of those that went with David, and said, Because they went not with us, we will not give them ought of the spoil that we have recovered, save to every man his wife and his children, that they may lead them away, and depart.

OST ²² Mais tous les hommes méchants et mauvais, d'entre ceux qui étaient allés avec David, prirent la parole et dirent: Puisqu'ils ne sont point venus avec nous, nous ne leur donnerons rien du butin que nous avons recouvré, sinon à chacun sa femme et ses enfants; qu'ils les emmènent, et s'en aillent.

VULC ²² Respondensque omnis vir pessimus et iniquus de viris qui ierant cum David, dixit : Quia non venerunt nobiscum, non dabimus eis quidquam de præda quam eruimus : sed sufficiat unicuique uxor sua et filii : quos cum acceperint, recedant.

WLC ²² וַיַּ֜עַן כָּל־ אִֽישׁ־ רָ֣ע וּבְלִיַּ֗עַל מֵֽהָאֲנָשִׁים֮ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָלְכ֣וּ עִם־ דָּוִד֒ וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ יַ֚עַן אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹֽא־ הָלְכ֣וּ עִמִּ֔י לֹֽא־ נִתֵּ֣ן לָהֶ֔ם מֵהַשָּׁלָ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִצַּ֑לְנוּ כִּֽי־ אִם־ אִ֤ישׁ אֶת־ אִשְׁתּוֹ֙ וְאֶת־ בָּנָ֔יו וְיִנְהֲג֖וּ וְיֵלֵֽכוּ׃

KJV ²³ Then said David, Ye shall not do so, my brethren, with that which the LORD hath given us, who hath preserved us, and delivered the company that came against us into our hand.

OST ²³ Mais David dit: Ce n'est pas ainsi, mes frères, que vous disposerez de ce que l'Éternel nous a donné, puisqu'il nous a gardés, et a livré entre nos mains la troupe qui était venue contre nous.

VULC ²³ Dixit autem David : Non sic facietis, fratres mei, de his quæ tradidit nobis Dominus, et custodivit nos, et dedit latrunculos qui eruperant adversum nos, in manus nostras :

WLC ²³ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔ד לֹֽא־ תַעֲשׂ֥וּ כֵ֖ן אֶחָ֑י אֵ֠ת אֲשֶׁר־ נָתַ֨ן יְהוָ֥ה לָ֙נוּ֙ וַיִּשְׁמֹ֣ר אֹתָ֔נוּ וַיִּתֵּ֗ן אֶֽת־ הַגְּד֛וּד הַבָּ֥א עָלֵ֖ינוּ בְּיָדֵֽנוּ׃

KJV ²⁴ For who will hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike.

OST ²⁴ Qui vous écouterait dans cette affaire? Car la part de celui qui descend au combat et la part de celui qui demeure au bagage, doivent être égales; ils partageront ensemble.

KJV ²⁵ And it was so from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel unto this day.
