KJV ¹ And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod.

KJV ³ And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.

NEG ³ Le lendemain, les Asdodiens, qui s'étaient levés de bon matin, trouvèrent Dagon étendu la face contre terre, devant l'arche de l'Eternel. Ils prirent Dagon, et le remirent à sa place.

VULC ³ Cumque surrexissent diluculo Azotii altera die, ecce Dagon jacebat pronus in terra ante arcam Domini : et tulerunt Dagon, et restituerunt eum in locum suum.

KJV ⁴ And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.

NEG ⁴ Le lendemain encore, s'étant levés de bon matin, ils trouvèrent Dagon étendu la face contre terre, devant l'arche de l'Eternel; la tête de Dagon et ses deux mains étaient abattues sur le seuil, et il ne lui restait que le tronc.

VULC ⁴ Rursumque mane die altera consurgentes, invenerunt Dagon jacentem super faciem suam in terra coram arca Domini : caput autem Dagon, et duæ palmæ manuum ejus abscissæ erant super limen :

KJV ⁵ Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.

NEG ⁵ C'est pourquoi jusqu'à ce jour, les prêtres de Dagon et tous ceux qui entrent dans la maison de Dagon à Asdod ne marchent point sur le seuil.

VULC ⁵ porro Dagon solus truncus remanserat in loco suo. Propter hanc causam non calcant sacerdotes Dagon, et omnes qui ingrediuntur templum ejus, super limen Dagon in Azoto, usque in hodiernum diem.

KJV ⁶ But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.

NEG ⁶ La main de l'Eternel s'appesantit sur les Asdodiens, et il mit la désolation parmi eux; il les frappa d'hémorroïdes à Asdod et dans son territoire.

VULC ⁶ Aggravata est autem manus Domini super Azotios, et demolitus est eos : et percussit in secretiori parte natium Azotum, et fines ejus. Et ebullierunt villæ et agri in medio regionis illius, et nati sunt mures et facta est confusio mortis magnæ in civitate.

KJV ⁷ And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.

NEG ⁷ Voyant qu'il en était ainsi, les gens d'Asdod dirent: L'arche du Dieu d'Israël ne restera pas chez nous, car il appesantit sa main sur nous et sur Dagon, notre dieu.

VULC ⁷ Videntes autem viri Azotii hujuscemodi plagam, dixerunt : Non maneat arca Dei Israël apud nos : quoniam dura est manus ejus super nos, et super Dagon deum nostrum.

KJV ⁸ They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.

NEG ⁸ Et ils firent chercher et assemblèrent auprès d'eux tous les princes des Philistins, et ils dirent: Que ferons-nous de l'arche du Dieu d'Israël? Les princes répondirent: Que l'on transporte à Gath l'arche du Dieu d'Israël. Et l'on y transporta l'arche du Dieu d'Israël.

VULC ⁸ Et mittentes congregaverunt omnes satrapas Philisthinorum ad se, et dixerunt : Quid faciemus de arca Dei Israël ? Responderuntque Gethæi : Circumducatur arca Dei Israël. Et circumduxerunt arcam Dei Israël.

KJV ⁹ And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.

NEG ⁹ Mais après qu'elle eut été transportée, la main de l'Eternel fut sur la ville, et il y eut une très grande consternation; il frappa les gens de la ville depuis le petit jusqu'au grand, et ils eurent une éruption d'hémorroïdes.

VULC ⁹ Illis autem circumducentibus eam, fiebat manus Domini per singulas civitates interfectionis magnæ nimis : et percutiebat viros uniuscujusque urbis, a parvo usque ad majorem, et computrescebant prominentes extales eorum. Inieruntque Gethæi consilium, et fecerunt sibi sedes pelliceas.

KJV ¹⁰ Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.

NEG ¹⁰ Alors ils envoyèrent l'arche de Dieu à Ekron. Lorsque l'arche de Dieu entra dans Ekron, les Ekroniens poussèrent des cris, en disant: On a transporté chez nous l'arche du Dieu d'Israël, pour nous faire mourir, nous et notre peuple!

VULC ¹⁰ Miserunt ergo arcam Dei in Accaron. Cumque venisset arca Dei in Accaron, exclamaverunt Accaronitæ, dicentes : Adduxerunt ad nos arcam Dei Israël ut interficiat nos et populum nostrum.

KJV ¹¹ So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.

NEG ¹¹ Et ils firent chercher et assemblèrent tous les princes des Philistins, et ils dirent: Renvoyez l'arche du Dieu d'Israël; qu'elle retourne en son lieu, et qu'elle ne nous fasse pas mourir, nous et notre peuple. Car il y avait dans toute la ville une terreur mortelle; la main de Dieu s'y appesantissait fortement.

VULC ¹¹ Miserunt itaque et congregaverunt omnes satrapas Philisthinorum : qui dixerunt : Dimittite arcam Dei Israël, et revertatur in locum suum, et non interficiat nos cum populo nostro.

KJV ¹² And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.
