BAN ¹ Et Abija s'endormit avec ses pères, et on l'enterra dans la cité de David. Et Asa, son fils, régna à sa place. De son temps, le pays fut en repos pendant dix ans.

KJV ¹ So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.

WLC ¹ וַיַּ֤עַשׂ אָסָא֙ הַטּ֣וֹב וְהַיָּשָׁ֔ר בְּעֵינֵ֖י יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָֽיו׃

BAN ² Et Asa fit ce qui est bon et droit aux yeux de l'Eternel son Dieu.

KJV ² And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:

WLC ² וַיָּ֛סַר אֶת־ מִזְבְּח֥וֹת הַנֵּכָ֖ר וְהַבָּמ֑וֹת וַיְשַׁבֵּר֙ אֶת־ הַמַּצֵּב֔וֹת וַיְגַדַּ֖ע אֶת־ הָאֲשֵׁרִֽים׃

BAN ³ Il fit disparaître les autels de l'étranger et les hauts-lieux, et il brisa les statues et abattit les aschères.

KJV ³ For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:

WLC ³ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ לִֽיהוּדָ֔ה לִדְר֕וֹשׁ אֶת־ יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י אֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֑ם וְלַעֲשׂ֖וֹת הַתּוֹרָ֥ה וְהַמִּצְוָֽה׃

BAN ⁴ Et il ordonna à Juda de chercher l'Eternel, le Dieu de leurs pères, et de pratiquer la loi et les commandements.

KJV ⁴ And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

WLC ⁴ וַיָּ֙סַר֙ מִכָּל־ עָרֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֔ה אֶת־ הַבָּמ֖וֹת וְאֶת־ הַֽחַמָּנִ֑ים וַתִּשְׁקֹ֥ט הַמַּמְלָכָ֖ה לְפָנָֽיו׃

BAN ⁵ Et il fit disparaître de toutes les villes de Juda les hauts-lieux et les colonnes solaires. Et le royaume fut en repos devant lui.

KJV ⁵ Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.

WLC ⁵ וַיִּ֛בֶן עָרֵ֥י מְצוּרָ֖ה בִּיהוּדָ֑ה כִּֽי־ שָׁקְטָ֣ה הָאָ֗רֶץ וְאֵין־ עִמּ֤וֹ מִלְחָמָה֙ בַּשָּׁנִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה כִּֽי־ הֵנִ֥יחַ יְהוָ֖ה לֽוֹ׃

BAN ⁶ Et il bâtit des villes fortes en Juda, car le pays était tranquille ; et il n'y eut pas de guerre contre lui pendant ces années-là, parce que l'Eternel lui donna du repos.

KJV ⁶ And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.

WLC ⁶ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר לִֽיהוּדָ֜ה נִבְנֶ֣ה ׀ אֶת־ הֶעָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֗לֶּה וְנָסֵ֨ב חוֹמָ֣ה וּמִגְדָּלִים֮ דְּלָתַ֣יִם וּבְרִיחִים֒ עוֹדֶ֨נּוּ הָאָ֜רֶץ לְפָנֵ֗ינוּ כִּ֤י דָרַ֙שְׁנוּ֙ אֶת־ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ דָּרַ֕שְׁנוּ וַיָּ֥נַֽח לָ֖נוּ מִסָּבִ֑יב וַיִּבְנ֖וּ וַיַּצְלִֽיחוּ׃

BAN ⁷ Et il dit à Juda : Bâtissons ces villes, et entourez-les de murs, de tours, de portes et de barres ; le pays est encore devant nous, car nous avons cherché l'Eternel, notre Dieu ; nous l'avons cherché, et il nous a donné du repos de tous côtés. Et ils bâtirent et ils réussirent.

KJV ⁷ Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.

WLC ⁷ וַיְהִ֣י לְאָסָ֗א חַיִל֮ נֹשֵׂ֣א צִנָּ֣ה וָרֹמַח֒ מִֽיהוּדָה֙ שְׁלֹ֣שׁ מֵא֣וֹת אֶ֔לֶף וּמִבִּנְיָמִ֗ן נֹשְׂאֵ֤י מָגֵן֙ וְדֹ֣רְכֵי קֶ֔שֶׁת מָאתַ֥יִם וּשְׁמוֹנִ֖ים אָ֑לֶף כָּל־ אֵ֖לֶּה גִּבּ֥וֹרֵי חָֽיִל׃

BAN ⁸ Et Asa avait une armée de trois cent mille hommes de Juda, portant le bouclier et la lance, et de deux cent quatre-vingt mille de Benjamin, portant l'écu et tirant de l'arc, tous vaillants hommes.

KJV ⁸ And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.

WLC ⁸ וַיֵּצֵ֨א אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם זֶ֣רַח הַכּוּשִׁ֗י בְּחַ֙יִל֙ אֶ֣לֶף אֲלָפִ֔ים וּמַרְכָּב֖וֹת שְׁלֹ֣שׁ מֵא֑וֹת וַיָּבֹ֖א עַד־ מָרֵשָֽׁה׃

BAN ⁹ Et Zérach, le Cuschite, sortit contre eux avec une armée d'un million d'hommes et trois cents chars, et il arriva jusqu'à Marésa.

KJV ⁹ And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.

WLC ⁹ וַיֵּצֵ֥א אָסָ֖א לְפָנָ֑יו וַיַּֽעַרְכוּ֙ מִלְחָמָ֔ה בְּגֵ֥יא צְפַ֖תָה לְמָרֵשָֽׁה׃

BAN ¹⁰ Et Asa sortit au-devant de lui, et ils se rangèrent en bataille dans la vallée de Tséphatha, près de Marésa.

KJV ¹⁰ Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיִּקְרָ֨א אָסָ֜א אֶל־ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָיו֮ וַיֹּאמַר֒ יְהוָ֗ה אֵֽין־ עִמְּךָ֤ לַעְזוֹר֙ בֵּ֥ין רַב֙ לְאֵ֣ין כֹּ֔חַ עָזְרֵ֜נוּ יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ כִּֽי־ עָלֶ֣יךָ נִשְׁעַ֔נּוּ וּבְשִׁמְךָ֣ בָ֔אנוּ עַל־ הֶהָמ֖וֹן הַזֶּ֑ה יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ אַ֔תָּה אַל־ יַעְצֹ֥ר עִמְּךָ֖ אֱנֽוֹשׁ׃

BAN ¹¹ Et Asa invoqua l'Eternel son Dieu et dit : Eternel ! nul autre que toi ne peut venir en aide à celui qui est sans force contre le puissant. Viens à notre aide, Eternel, notre Dieu ! Car c'est sur toi que nous nous appuyons, et c'est en ton nom que nous sommes venus contre cette multitude. Eternel, tu es notre Dieu ; qu'un homme ne prévale pas sur toi !

KJV ¹¹ And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let no man prevail against thee.

WLC ¹¹ וַיִּגֹּ֤ף יְהוָה֙ אֶת־ הַכּוּשִׁ֔ים לִפְנֵ֥י אָסָ֖א וְלִפְנֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֑ה וַיָּנֻ֖סוּ הַכּוּשִֽׁים׃

BAN ¹² Et l'Eternel frappa les Cuschites devant Asa et devant Juda, et les Cuschites s'enfuirent.

KJV ¹² So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

WLC ¹² וַיִּרְדְּפֵ֨ם אָסָ֜א וְהָעָ֣ם אֲשֶׁר־ עִמּוֹ֮ עַד־ לִגְרָר֒ וַיִּפֹּ֤ל מִכּוּשִׁים֙ לְאֵ֣ין לָהֶ֣ם מִֽחְיָ֔ה כִּֽי־ נִשְׁבְּר֥וּ לִפְנֵֽי־ יְהוָ֖ה וְלִפְנֵ֣י מַחֲנֵ֑הוּ וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ שָׁלָ֖ל הַרְבֵּ֥ה מְאֹֽד׃

BAN ¹³ Et Asa et le peuple qui était avec lui les poursuivirent jusqu'à Guérar, et les Cuschites tombèrent en si grand nombre qu'aucun ne put sauver sa vie, car ils furent exterminés devant l'Eternel et devant son armée. Et ils firent un immense butin,

KJV ¹³ And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.

WLC ¹³ וַיַּכּ֗וּ אֵ֤ת כָּל־ הֶֽעָרִים֙ סְבִיב֣וֹת גְּרָ֔ר כִּי־ הָיָ֥ה פַֽחַד־ יְהוָ֖ה עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם וַיָּבֹ֙זּוּ֙ אֶת־ כָּל־ הֶ֣עָרִ֔ים כִּֽי־ בִזָּ֥ה רַבָּ֖ה הָיְתָ֥ה בָהֶֽם׃

BAN ¹⁴ et ils frappèrent toutes les villes des environs de Guérar, car la frayeur de l'Eternel les avait saisis ; et ils pillèrent toutes les villes, car elles renfermaient un immense butin.

KJV ¹⁴ And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.

WLC ¹⁴ וְגַם־ אָהֳלֵ֥י מִקְנֶ֖ה הִכּ֑וּ וַיִּשְׁבּ֨וּ צֹ֤אן לָרֹב֙ וּגְמַלִּ֔ים וַיָּשֻׁ֖בוּ יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

BAN ¹⁵ Ils frappèrent aussi les tentes des troupeaux, et ils emmenèrent quantité de brebis et de chameaux, et ils retournèrent à Jérusalem.

KJV ¹⁵ They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
