KJV ¹ In the six and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built Ramah, to the intent that he might let none go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

KJV ² Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the king's house, and sent to Benhadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,

LSG ² Asa sortit de l'argent et de l'or des trésors de la maison de l'Éternel et de la maison du roi, et il envoya des messagers vers Ben Hadad, roi de Syrie, qui habitait à Damas.

VULC ² Protulit ergo Asa argentum et aurum de thesauris domus Domini, et de thesauris regis, misitque ad Benadad regem Syriæ, qui habitabat in Damasco, dicens :

KJV ³ There is a league between me and thee, as there was between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.

LSG ³ Il lui fit dire: Qu'il y ait une alliance entre moi et toi, comme il y en eut une entre mon père et ton père. Voici, je t'envoie de l'argent et de l'or. Va, romps ton alliance avec Baescha, roi d'Israël, afin qu'il s'éloigne de moi.

VULC ³ Fœdus inter me et te est ; pater quoque meus et pater tuus habuere concordiam : quam ob rem misi tibi argentum et aurum, ut rupto fœdere quod habes cum Baasa rege Israël, facias eum a me recedere.

KJV ⁴ And Benhadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abelmaim, and all the store cities of Naphtali.

LSG ⁴ Ben Hadad écouta le roi Asa ; il envoya les chefs de son armée contre les villes d'Israël, et ils frappèrent Ijjon, Dan, Abel Maïm, et tous les magasins des villes de Nephthali.

VULC ⁴ Quo comperto, Benadad misit principes exercituum suorum ad urbes Israël : qui percusserunt Ahion, et Dan, et Abelmaim, et universas urbes Nephthali muratas.

KJV ⁵ And it came to pass, when Baasha heard it, that he left off building of Ramah, and let his work cease.

KJV ⁶ Then Asa the king took all Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha was building; and he built therewith Geba and Mizpah.

KJV ⁷ And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the LORD thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine hand.

LSG ⁷ Dans ce temps-là, Hanani, le voyant, alla auprès d'Asa, roi de Juda, et lui dit: Parce que tu t'es appuyé sur le roi de Syrie et que tu ne t'es pas appuyé sur l'Éternel, ton Dieu, l'armée du roi de Syrie s'est échappée de tes mains.

VULC ⁷ In tempore illo venit Hanani propheta ad Asa regem Juda, et dixit ei : Quia habuisti fiduciam in rege Syriæ, et non in Domino Deo tuo, idcirco evasit Syriæ regis exercitus de manu tua.

KJV ⁸ Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely on the LORD, he delivered them into thine hand.

LSG ⁸ Les Éthiopiens et les Libyens ne formaient-ils pas une grande armée, avec des chars et une multitude de cavaliers ? Et cependant l'Éternel les a livrés entre tes mains, parce que tu t'étais appuyé sur lui.

VULC ⁸ Nonne Æthiopes et Libyes multo plures erant quadrigis, et equitibus, et multitudine nimia, quos cum Domino credidisses, tradidit in manu tua ?

KJV ⁹ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

LSG ⁹ Car l'Éternel étend ses regards sur toute la terre, pour soutenir ceux dont le coeur est tout entier à lui. Tu as agi en insensé dans cette affaire, car dès à présent tu auras des guerres.

VULC ⁹ Oculi enim Domini contemplantur universam terram, et præbent fortitudinem his qui corde perfecto credunt in eum. Stulte igitur egisti, et propter hoc ex præsenti tempore adversum te bella consurgent.

KJV ¹⁰ Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.

KJV ¹³ And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign.

KJV ¹⁴ And they buried him in his own sepulchres, which he had made for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odours and divers kinds of spices prepared by the apothecaries' art: and they made a very great burning for him.

VULC ¹⁴ Et sepelierunt eum in sepulchro suo quod foderat sibi in civitate David : posueruntque eum super lectum suum plenum aromatibus et unguentibus meretriciis, quæ erant pigmentariorum arte confecta, et combusserunt super eum ambitione nimia.
