BAN ¹ Et Joram, fils d'Achab, commença à régner sur Israël à Samarie, la dix-huitième année de Josaphat, roi de Juda ; et il régna douze ans.

KJV ¹ Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.

BAN ² Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Eternel, pas cependant comme son père et sa mère, car il fit disparaître la statue de Baal que son père avait faite.

KJV ² And he wrought evil in the sight of the LORD; but not like his father, and like his mother: for he put away the image of Baal that his father had made.

VULC ² Et fecit malum coram Domino, sed non sicut pater suus et mater : tulit enim statuas Baal quas fecerat pater ejus.

BAN ³ Seulement, il s'attacha aux péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nébat, par lesquels celui-ci avait fait pécher Israël, et il ne s'en détourna pas.

KJV ³ Nevertheless he cleaved unto the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.

VULC ³ Verumtamen in peccatis Jeroboam filii Nabat, qui peccare fecit Israël, adhæsit, nec recessit ab eis.

BAN ⁴ Et Mésa, roi de Moab, élevait du bétail, et il payait au roi d'Israël, comme tribut, cent mille agneaux et cent mille béliers avec leur laine.

KJV ⁴ And Mesha king of Moab was a sheepmaster, and rendered unto the king of Israel an hundred thousand lambs, and an hundred thousand rams, with the wool.

VULC ⁴ Porro Mesa rex Moab nutriebat pecora multa, et solvebat regi Israël centum millia agnorum, et centum millia arietum cum velleribus suis.

BAN ⁵ Et après la mort d'Achab, le roi de Moab se révolta contre le roi d'Israël.

KJV ⁵ But it came to pass, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.

VULC ⁵ Cumque mortuus fuisset Achab, prævaricatus est fœdus quod habebat cum rege Israël.

BAN ⁶ Et le roi Joram sortit de Samarie en ce temps-là et passa en revue tout Israël,

KJV ⁶ And king Jehoram went out of Samaria the same time, and numbered all Israel.

VULC ⁶ Egressus est igitur rex Joram in die illa de Samaria, et recensuit universum Israël.

BAN ⁷ et il se mit en route et envoya dire à Josaphat, roi de Juda : Le roi de Moab s'est révolté contre moi. Viens-tu avec moi faire la guerre à Moab ? Et il dit : Je monterai, je suis tout à toi ; mes gens sont tes gens, mes chevaux tes chevaux.

KJV ⁷ And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses.

VULC ⁷ Misitque ad Josaphat regem Juda, dicens : Rex Moab recessit a me : veni mecum contra eum ad prælium. Qui respondit : Ascendam : qui meus est, tuus est : populus meus, populus tuus, et equi mei, equi tui.

BAN ⁸ Et il dit : Par quel chemin monterons-nous ? Et Joram dit : Par le chemin du désert d'Edom.

KJV ⁸ And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he answered, The way through the wilderness of Edom.

VULC ⁸ Dixitque : Per quam viam ascendemus ? At ille respondit : Per desertum Idumææ.

BAN ⁹ Et le roi d'Israël, avec le roi de Juda et le roi d'Edom, se mit en route, et ils firent le tour pendant sept jours, et il n'y avait pas d'eau pour l'armée, ni pour le bétail qui suivait.

KJV ⁹ So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: and they fetched a compass of seven days' journey: and there was no water for the host, and for the cattle that followed them.

VULC ⁹ Perrexerunt igitur rex Israël, et rex Juda, et rex Edom, et circuierunt per viam septem dierum, nec erat aqua exercitui et jumentis quæ sequebantur eos.

BAN ¹⁰ Et le roi d'Israël dit : Hélas ! L'Eternel a appelé ces trois rois pour les livrer aux Moabites.

KJV ¹⁰ And the king of Israel said, Alas! that the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab!

VULC ¹⁰ Dixitque rex Israël : Heu ! heu ! heu ! congregavit nos Dominus tres reges ut traderet in manus Moab.

BAN ¹¹ Et Josaphat dit : N'y a-t-il point ici un prophète de l'Eternel, par le moyen duquel nous consultions l'Eternel ? Et l'un des serviteurs du roi d'Israël répondit et dit : Elisée, fils de Saphat, qui versait l'eau sur les mains d'Elie, est ici.

KJV ¹¹ But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.

VULC ¹¹ Et ait Josaphat : Estne hic propheta Domini, ut deprecemur Dominum per eum ? Et respondit unus de servis regis Israël : Est hic Eliseus filius Saphat, qui fundebat aquam super manus Eliæ.

BAN ¹² Et Josaphat dit : La parole de l'Eternel est avec lui. Et le roi d'Israël et Josaphat et le roi d'Edom descendirent auprès de lui.

KJV ¹² And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

VULC ¹² Et ait Josaphat : Est apud eum sermo Domini. Descenditque ad eum rex Israël, et Josaphat rex Juda, et rex Edom.

BAN ¹³ Et Elisée dit au roi d'Israël : Qu'y a-t-il entre mot et toi ? Va vers les prophètes de ton père et vers les prophètes de ta mère.... Et le roi d'Israël dit : Non ! car l'Eternel a appelé ces trois rois pour les livrer aux mains de Moab.

KJV ¹³ And Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father, and to the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israel said unto him, Nay: for the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.

BAN ¹⁴ Et Elisée dit : L'Eternel des armées, devant lequel je me tiens, est vivant, que si je n'avais égard à Josaphat, roi de Juda, je ne songerais pas à toi et ne te regarderais pas.

KJV ¹⁴ And Elisha said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee.

KJV ¹⁵ But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him.

KJV ¹⁸ And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.

VULC ¹⁸ Parumque est hoc in conspectu Domini : insuper tradet etiam Moab in manus vestras.

BAN ¹⁹ et vous frapperez toutes les villes fortes et toutes les meilleures villes ; vous abattrez tous les bons arbres, vous boucherez toutes les sources d'eaux, et vous gâterez toutes les bonnes terres en les couvrant de pierres.

KJV ¹⁹ And ye shall smite every fenced city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all wells of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.

VULC ¹⁹ Et percutietis omnem civitatem munitam, et omnem urbem electam, et universum lignum fructiferum succidetis, cunctosque fontes aquarum obturabitis, et omnem agrum egregium operietis lapidibus.

KJV ²⁰ And it came to pass in the morning, when the meat offering was offered, that, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.

VULC ²⁰ Factum est igitur mane, quando sacrificium offerri solet, et ecce aquæ veniebant per viam Edom, et repleta est terra aquis.

BAN ²¹ Et tout Moab ayant appris que ces rois étaient montés pour lui faire la guerre, on convoqua tous les hommes, depuis l'âge où l'on ceint le baudrier et au-dessus, et ils se tinrent sur la frontière.

KJV ²¹ And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to put on armour, and upward, and stood in the border.

VULC ²¹ Universi autem Moabitæ audientes quod ascendissent reges ut pugnarent adversum eos, convocaverunt omnes qui accincti erant balteo desuper, et steterunt in terminis.

BAN ²² Et le lendemain matin, comme le soleil brillait sur les eaux, les Moabites virent d'en face les eaux rouges comme du sang.

KJV ²² And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water on the other side as red as blood:

VULC ²² Primoque mane surgentes, et orto jam sole ex adverso aquarum, viderunt Moabitæ e contra aquas rubras quasi sanguinem,

BAN ²³ Et ils dirent : C'est du sang, ces rois se sont certainement entre-détruits ; ils se sont frappés les uns les autres ; et maintenant : Au pillage, Moab !

KJV ²³ And they said, This is blood: the kings are surely slain, and they have smitten one another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil.

VULC ²³ dixeruntque : Sanguis gladii est : pugnaverunt reges contra se, et cæsi sunt mutuo : nunc perge ad prædam, Moab.

BAN ²⁴ Et ils vinrent contre le camp d'Israël. Et Israël se leva et frappa Moab, qui s'enfuit de devant eux, et ils pénétrèrent dans le pays et frappèrent Moab.

KJV ²⁴ And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward smiting the Moabites, even in their country.

VULC ²⁴ Perrexeruntque in castra Israël : porro consurgens Israël, percussit Moab : at illi fugerunt coram eis. Venerunt igitur qui vicerant, et percusserunt Moab,

BAN ²⁵ Et ils détruisirent les villes, ils jetèrent chacun sa pierre dans toutes les bonnes terres et ils les en remplirent, ils bouchèrent toutes les sources d'eaux, abattirent tous les bons arbres, tellement qu'il ne resta que les murailles de Kir-Haréseth, et les frondeurs l'entourèrent et l'attaquèrent.

KJV ²⁵ And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the good trees: only in Kirharaseth left they the stones thereof; howbeit the slingers went about it, and smote it.

VULC ²⁵ et civitates destruxerunt : et omnem agrum optimum, mittentes singuli lapides, repleverunt : et universos fontes aquarum obturaverunt : et omnia ligna fructifera succiderunt, ita ut muri tantum fictiles remanerent : et circumdata est civitas a fundibulariis, et magna ex parte percussa.

BAN ²⁶ Et le roi de Moab vit qu'il ne pourrait résister à l'attaque, et il prit avec lui sept cents hommes tirant l'épée ; pour se frayer un passage jusqu'au roi d'Edom, mais ils ne le purent pas.

KJV ²⁶ And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through even unto the king of Edom: but they could not.

VULC ²⁶ Quod cum vidisset rex Moab, prævaluisse scilicet hostes, tulit secum septingentos viros educentes gladium, ut irrumperent ad regem Edom : et non potuerunt.

BAN ²⁷ Et il prit son fils premier-né, qui devait régner à sa place, et il l'offrit en holocauste sur le mur de la ville. Et il y eut une grande crainte sur les Israélites, et ils cessèrent de le combattre et retournèrent dans leur pays.

KJV ²⁷ Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.

VULC ²⁷ Arripiensque filium suum primogenitum, qui regnaturus erat pro eo, obtulit holocaustum super murum : et facta est indignatio magna in Israël, statimque recesserunt ab eo, et reversi sunt in terram suam.
