BCC ² Élisée lui dit : "Que puis-je faire pour toi ? Dis-moi, qu'as-tu à la maison ?" Elle répondit : "ta servante n'a rien du tout à la maison, si ce n'est un vase d'huile."

BCC ³ Il dit : "Va demander au dehors des vases à tous tes voisins, des vases vides ; n'en emprunte pas trop peu.

BCC ⁴ Quand tu seras rentrée, tu fermeras la porte sur toi et sur tes enfants ; tu verseras de ton huile dans tous ces vases, et ceux qui seront pleins, tu les mettras de côté."

BCC ⁹ Elle dit à son mari : "voici, je sais que c'est un saint homme de Dieu, qui passe ainsi souvent chez nous.

BCC ¹⁰ Faisons-lui une petite chambre haute contre le mur, et mettons-y pour lui un lit, une table, un siège et un chandelier, afin qu'il s'y retire quand il viendra chez nous."

BCC ¹³ Et Élisée dit à Giézi : "Dis-lui : Voici que tu nous a témoigné toute cette sollicitude : que peut-on faire pour toi ? Faut-il parler pour toi au roi ou au chef de l'armée ?" Elle répondit à Giézi : "J'habite au milieu de mon peuple."

BCC ²⁰ Le serviteur l'ayant emporté et amené à sa mère, l'enfant resta sur les genoux de sa mère jusqu'à midi, puis il mourut.

KJV ²⁰ And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died.

BCC ²² Elle appela son mari, et dit : "envoie-moi, je te prie, un des serviteurs et une des ânesses, que je courre vers l'homme de Dieu, pour en revenir aussitôt.

BCC ²³ Il dit : "pourquoi aller aujourd'hui vers lui ? Ce n'est ni la nouvelle lune, ni le sabbat." Elle répondit : "Sois tranquille."

KJV ²³ And he said, Wherefore wilt thou go to him to day? it is neither new moon, nor sabbath. And she said, It shall be well.

VULC ²³ Qui ait illi : Quam ob causam vadis ad eum ? hodie non sunt calendæ, neque sabbatum. Quæ respondit : Vadam.

KJV ²⁴ Then she saddled an ass, and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward; slack not thy riding for me, except I bid thee.

VULC ²⁴ Stravitque asinam, et præcepit puero : Mina, et propera : ne mihi moram facias in eundo : et hoc age quod præcipio tibi.

WLC ²⁴ וַֽתַּחֲבֹשׁ֙ הָֽאָת֔וֹן וַתֹּ֥אמֶר אֶֽל־ נַעֲרָ֖הּ נְהַ֣ג וָלֵ֑ךְ אַל־ תַּעֲצָר־ לִ֣י לִרְכֹּ֔ב כִּ֖י אִם־ אָמַ֥רְתִּי לָֽךְ׃

BCC ²⁵ Elle partit et se rendit vers l'homme de Dieu, sur la montagne du Carmel. L'homme de Dieu l'ayant aperçue de loin, dit à Giézi, son serviteur : "voici la Sunamite.

WLC ²⁵ וַתֵּ֗לֶךְ וַתָּב֛וֹא אֶל־ אִ֥ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶל־ הַ֣ר הַכַּרְמֶ֑ל וַ֠יְהִי כִּרְא֨וֹת אִישׁ־ הָאֱלֹהִ֤ים אֹתָהּ֙ מִנֶּ֔גֶד וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־ גֵּיחֲזִ֣י נַעֲר֔וֹ הִנֵּ֖ה הַשּׁוּנַמִּ֥ית הַלָּֽז׃

BCC ²⁶ Cours donc à sa rencontre et dis-lui : Te portes-tu bien ? Ton mari se porte-t-il bien ? Ton enfant se porte-t-il bien ?" Elle répondit : "bien !"

BCC ²⁷ Dès qu'elle fut arrivée auprès de l'homme de Dieu, sur la montagne, elle saisit ses pieds. Giézi s'approcha pour la repousser ; mais l'homme de Dieu dit : "Laisse-la, car son âme est dans l'amertume, et Yahweh me l'a caché et ne me l'a pas fait connaître."

KJV ²⁷ And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is vexed within her: and the LORD hath hid it from me, and hath not told me.

VULC ²⁷ Cumque venisset ad virum Dei in montem, apprehendit pedes ejus : et accessit Giezi ut amoveret eam. Et ait homo Dei : Dimitte illam : anima enim ejus in amaritudine est, et Dominus celavit a me, et non indicavit mihi.

WLC ²⁷ וַתָּבֹ֞א אֶל־ אִ֤ישׁ הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ אֶל־ הָהָ֔ר וַֽתַּחֲזֵ֖ק בְּרַגְלָ֑יו וַיִּגַּ֨שׁ גֵּֽיחֲזִ֜י לְהָדְפָ֗הּ וַיֹּאמֶר֩ אִ֨ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֤ים הַרְפֵּֽה־ לָהּ֙ כִּֽי־ נַפְשָׁ֣הּ מָֽרָה־ לָ֔הּ וַֽיהוָה֙ הֶעְלִ֣ים מִמֶּ֔נִּי וְלֹ֥א הִגִּ֖יד לִֽי׃

BCC ²⁸ Alors elle dit : "ai-je demandé un fils à mon seigneur ? N'ai-je pas dit : Ne me trompe pas ?"

KJV ²⁸ Then she said, Did I desire a son of my lord? did I not say, Do not deceive me?

BCC ²⁹ Et Élisée dit à Giézi : "ceins tes reins, prends mon bâton dans ta main et pars. Si tu rencontres quelqu'un, ne le salue pas, et si quelqu'un te salue, ne lui réponds pas. Tu mettras mon bâton sur le visage de l'enfant."

KJV ²⁹ Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thine hand, and go thy way: if thou meet any man, salute him not; and if any salute thee, answer him not again: and lay my staff upon the face of the child.

VULC ²⁹ Et ille ait ad Giezi : Accinge lumbos tuos, et tolle baculum meum in manu tua, et vade. Si occurrerit tibi homo, non salutes eum : et si salutaverit te quispiam, non respondeas illi : et pones baculum meum super faciem pueri.

BCC ³⁰ La mère de l'enfant dit : "Yahweh est vivant et ton âme est vivante ! Je ne te quitterai point." Et Élisée se leva et la suivit.

KJV ³⁰ And the mother of the child said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And he arose, and followed her.

VULC ³⁰ Porro mater pueri ait : Vivit Dominus, et vivit anima tua, non dimittam te. Surrexit ergo, et secutus est eam.

WLC ³⁰ וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֵ֣ם הַנַּ֔עַר חַי־ יְהוָ֥ה וְחֵֽי־ נַפְשְׁךָ֖ אִם־ אֶעֶזְבֶ֑ךָּ וַיָּ֖קָם וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ אַחֲרֶֽיהָ׃

BCC ³¹ Giézi les avait devancés et il avait mis le bâton sur le visage de l'enfant ; mais il n'y eut ni voix, ni signe d'attention. Il s'en retourna au-devant d'Élisée et lui rapporta la chose en disant : "l'enfant ne s'est pas réveillé."

KJV ³¹ And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Wherefore he went again to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not awaked.

VULC ³¹ Giezi autem præcesserat ante eos, et posuerat baculum super faciem pueri, et non erat vox, neque sensus : reversusque est in occursum ejus, et nuntiavit ei, dicens : Non surrexit puer.

BCC ³² Lorsqu'Élisée arriva dans la maison, voici que l'enfant était mort, couché sur son lit.

KJV ³² And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed.

BCC ³³ Élisée entra et, ayant fermé la porte sur eux deux, il pria Yahweh.

BCC ³⁴ Et il monta et se coucha sur l'enfant ; il mit sa bouche sur sa bouche, ses yeux sur ses yeux, ses mains sur ses mains, et il s'étendit sur lui ; et la chair de l'enfant se réchauffa.

KJV ³⁴ And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm.

VULC ³⁴ Et ascendit, et incubuit super puerum : posuitque os suum super os ejus, et oculos suos super oculos ejus, et manus suas super manus ejus : et incurvavit se super eum, et calefacta est caro pueri.

WLC ³⁴ וַיַּ֜עַל וַיִּשְׁכַּ֣ב עַל־ הַיֶּ֗לֶד וַיָּשֶׂם֩ פִּ֨יו עַל־ פִּ֜יו וְעֵינָ֤יו עַל־ עֵינָיו֙ וְכַפָּ֣יו עַל־ וַיִּגְהַ֖ר עָלָ֑יו וַיָּ֖חָם בְּשַׂ֥ר הַיָּֽלֶד׃

BCC ³⁵ Élisée s'éloigna, et il allait çà et là dans la maison ; puis il remonta sur le lit et s'étendit sur l'enfant ; et l'enfant éternua sept fois, et l'enfant ouvrit les yeux.

KJV ³⁵ Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.

VULC ³⁵ At ille reversus, deambulavit in domo, semel huc atque illuc : et ascendit, et incubuit super eum : et oscitavit puer septies, aperuitque oculos.

BCC ³⁶ Élisée appela Giézi, et dit : "appelle la Sunamite." Giézi l'ayant appelée, elle vint vers Élisée qui lui dit : "prends ton fils."

KJV ³⁶ And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up thy son.

BCC ³⁷ Elle vint tomber à ses pieds et se prosterna contre terre ; et, prenant son fils, elle sortit.

KJV ³⁷ Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out.

VULC ³⁷ Venit illa, et corruit ad pedes ejus, et adoravit super terram : tulitque filium suum, et egressa est.

WLC ³⁷ וַתָּבֹא֙ וַתִּפֹּ֣ל עַל־ רַגְלָ֔יו וַתִּשְׁתַּ֖חוּ אָ֑רְצָה וַתִּשָּׂ֥א אֶת־ בְּנָ֖הּ וַתֵּצֵֽא׃

BCC ³⁸ Élisée revint à Galgala, et la famine était dans le pays. Comme les fils des prophètes étaient assis devant lui, il dit à son serviteur : "mets le grand pot, et fais cuire un potage pour les fils des prophètes."

KJV ³⁸ And Elisha came again to Gilgal: and there was a dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets.

VULC ³⁸ Et Eliseus reversus est in Galgala. Erat autem fames in terra, et filii prophetarum habitabant coram eo. Dixitque uni de pueris suis : Pone ollam grandem, et coque pulmentum filiis prophetarum.

WLC ³⁸ וֶאֱלִישָׁ֞ע שָׁ֤ב הַגִּלְגָּ֙לָה֙ וְהָרָעָ֣ב בָּאָ֔רֶץ וּבְנֵי֙ הַנְּבִיאִ֔ים יֹשְׁבִ֖ים לְפָנָ֑יו וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לְנַעֲר֗וֹ שְׁפֹת֙ הַסִּ֣יר הַגְּדוֹלָ֔ה וּבַשֵּׁ֥ל נָזִ֖יד לִבְנֵ֥י הַנְּבִיאִֽים׃

BCC ³⁹ L'un d'eux sortit dans les champs pour cueillir des herbes ; il trouva une espèce de vigne sauvage et il y cueillit des coloquintes sauvages, plein son vêtement. A son retour, il les coupa en morceaux dans le pot où se préparait le potage, sans qu'ils en eussent connaissance.

KJV ³⁹ And one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereof wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they knew them not.

VULC ³⁹ Et egressus est unus in agrum ut colligeret herbas agrestes : invenitque quasi vitem silvestrem, et collegit ex ea colocynthidas agri, et implevit pallium suum, et reversus concidit in ollam pulmenti : nesciebat enim quid esset.

WLC ³⁹ וַיֵּצֵ֨א אֶחָ֣ד אֶל־ הַשָּׂדֶה֮ לְלַקֵּ֣ט אֹרֹת֒ וַיִּמְצָא֙ גֶּ֣פֶן שָׂדֶ֔ה וַיְלַקֵּ֥ט מִמֶּ֛נּוּ פַּקֻּעֹ֥ת שָׂדֶ֖ה מְלֹ֣א בִגְד֑וֹ וַיָּבֹ֗א וַיְפַלַּ֛ח אֶל־ סִ֥יר הַנָּזִ֖יד כִּֽי־ לֹ֥א יָדָֽעוּ׃

BCC ⁴⁰ On versa du potage à ces hommes pour qu'ils en mangent ; mais dès qu'ils eurent mangé du potage, il poussèrent des cris en disant : "la mort est dans le pot, homme de Dieu !" Et ils ne purent manger.

KJV ⁴⁰ So they poured out for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the pottage, that they cried out, and said, O thou man of God, there is death in the pot. And they could not eat thereof.

VULC ⁴⁰ Infuderunt ergo sociis ut comederent : cumque gustassent de coctione, clamaverunt, dicentes : Mors in olla, vir Dei. Et non potuerunt comedere.

WLC ⁴⁰ וַיִּֽצְק֥וּ לַאֲנָשִׁ֖ים לֶאֱכ֑וֹל וַ֠יְהִי כְּאָכְלָ֨ם מֵהַנָּזִ֜יד וְהֵ֣מָּה צָעָ֗קוּ וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ מָ֤וֶת בַּסִּיר֙ אִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים וְלֹ֥א יָכְל֖וּ לֶאֱכֹֽל׃

BCC ⁴¹ Élisée dit : "Apportez-moi de la farine." Il en jeta dans le pot et dit : "Verse aux gens, et qu'ils mangent." Et il n'y avait plus rien de mauvais dans le pot.

KJV ⁴¹ But he said, Then bring meal. And he cast it into the pot; and he said, Pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no harm in the pot.

VULC ⁴¹ At ille : Afferte, inquit, farinam. Cumque tulissent, misit in ollam, et ait : Infunde turbæ, ut comedant. Et non fuit amplius quidquam amaritudinis in olla.

WLC ⁴¹ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ וּקְחוּ־ קֶ֔מַח וַיַּשְׁלֵ֖ךְ אֶל־ הַסִּ֑יר וַיֹּ֗אמֶר צַ֤ק לָעָם֙ וְיֹאכֵ֔לוּ וְלֹ֥א הָיָ֛ה דָּבָ֥ר רָ֖ע בַּסִּֽיר׃

BCC ⁴² Un homme vint de Baal-Salisa, apportant à l'homme de Dieu du pain des prémices, savoir vingt pains d'orge, et du blé frais dans son sac. Élisée dit : "donne aux gens, et qu'ils mangent."

KJV ⁴² And there came a man from Baalshalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of corn in the husk thereof. And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat.

WLC ⁴² וְאִ֨ישׁ בָּ֜א מִבַּ֣עַל שָׁלִ֗שָׁה וַיָּבֵא֩ לְאִ֨ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֜ים לֶ֤חֶם בִּכּוּרִים֙ עֶשְׂרִֽים־ לֶ֣חֶם שְׂעֹרִ֔ים וְכַרְמֶ֖ל בְּצִקְלֹנ֑וֹ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר תֵּ֥ן לָעָ֖ם וְיֹאכֵֽלוּ׃

BCC ⁴³ Son serviteur répondit : "Comment mettrai-je cela devant cent personnes ?" Mais Élisée dit : "Donne aux gens et qu'ils mangent. Car ainsi dit Yahweh : On mangera, et il y aura un reste."

KJV ⁴³ And his servitor said, What, should I set this before an hundred men? He said again, Give the people, that they may eat: for thus saith the LORD, They shall eat, and shall leave thereof.

VULC ⁴³ Responditque ei minister ejus : Quantum est hoc, ut apponam centum viris ? Rursum ille ait : Da populo, ut comedat : hæc enim dicit Dominus : Comedent, et supererit.

WLC ⁴³ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ מְשָׁ֣רְת֔וֹ מָ֚ה אֶתֵּ֣ן זֶ֔ה לִפְנֵ֖י מֵ֣אָה אִ֑ישׁ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר תֵּ֤ן לָעָם֙ וְיֹאכֵ֔לוּ כִּ֣י כֹ֥ה אָמַ֛ר יְהוָ֖ה אָכֹ֥ל וְהוֹתֵֽר׃
