KJV ² Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.

OST ² Allons-nous-en jusqu'au Jourdain; et nous prendrons là chacun une pièce de bois, et nous y bâtirons une demeure.

KJV ³ And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.

OST ³ Il répondit: Allez. Et l'un d'eux dit: Veuille, je te prie, venir avec tes serviteurs. Et il répondit: J'irai.

VULC ³ Et ait unus ex illis : Veni ergo et tu cum servis tuis. Respondit : Ego veniam.

WLC ³ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ הָֽאֶחָ֔ד ה֥וֹאֶל נָ֖א וְלֵ֣ךְ אֶת־ עֲבָדֶ֑יךָ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אֲנִ֥י אֵלֵֽךְ׃

KJV ⁴ So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.

OST ⁴ Il s'en alla donc avec eux; et ils vinrent au Jourdain, et coupèrent du bois.

VULC ⁴ Et abiit cum eis. Cumque venissent ad Jordanem, cædebant ligna.

WLC ⁴ וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ אִתָּ֑ם וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ הַיַּרְדֵּ֔נָה וַֽיִּגְזְר֖וּ הָעֵצִֽים׃

KJV ⁵ But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.

OST ⁵ Mais comme l'un d'entre eux abattait une pièce de bois, il arriva que le fer tomba dans l'eau; et il s'écria et dit: Hélas, mon seigneur! Et encore il était emprunté!

VULC ⁵ Accidit autem ut cum unus materiam succidisset, caderet ferrum securis in aquam : exclamavitque ille, et ait : Heu ! heu ! heu ! domine mi : et hoc ipsum mutuo acceperam.

WLC ⁵ וַיְהִ֤י הָֽאֶחָד֙ מַפִּ֣יל הַקּוֹרָ֔ה וְאֶת־ הַבַּרְזֶ֖ל נָפַ֣ל אֶל־ הַמָּ֑יִם וַיִּצְעַ֥ק וַיֹּ֛אמֶר אֲהָ֥הּ אֲדֹנִ֖י וְה֥וּא שָׁאֽוּל׃

KJV ⁶ And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.

OST ⁶ Et l'homme de Dieu dit: Où est-il tombé? Et il lui montra l'endroit. Alors Élisée coupa un morceau de bois et le jeta là, et fit surnager le fer; et il dit: Ramasse-le.

KJV ⁷ Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.

KJV ⁸ Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.

OST ⁸ Or le roi de Syrie, faisant la guerre à Israël, tenait conseil avec ses serviteurs, disant: Mon camp sera dans tel lieu.

KJV ⁹ And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.

KJV ¹⁰ And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.

KJV ¹¹ Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?

OST ¹¹ Et le coeur du roi de Syrie en fut troublé; et il appela ses serviteurs, et leur dit: Ne me découvrirez-vous pas lequel des nôtres est pour le roi d'Israël?

WLC ¹¹ וַיִּסָּעֵר֙ לֵ֣ב מֶֽלֶךְ־ אֲרָ֔ם עַל־ הַדָּבָ֖ר הַזֶּ֑ה וַיִּקְרָ֤א אֶל־ עֲבָדָיו֙ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם הֲלוֹא֙ תַּגִּ֣ידוּ לִ֔י מִ֥י מִשֶּׁלָּ֖נוּ אֶל־ מֶ֥לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ¹² And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.

OST ¹² Et l'un de ses serviteurs lui dit: Il n'y en a point, ô roi, mon seigneur; mais Élisée, le prophète qui est en Israël, déclare au roi d'Israël les paroles mêmes que tu dis dans la chambre où tu couches.

KJV ¹³ And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.

KJV ¹⁴ Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.

KJV ¹⁵ And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?

OST ¹⁵ Or le serviteur de l'homme de Dieu se leva de grand matin, et sortit; et voici, des troupes, avec des chevaux et des chars, environnaient la ville. Et son serviteur lui dit: Hélas! mon seigneur, comment ferons-nous?

VULC ¹⁵ Consurgens autem diluculo minister viri Dei, egressus vidit exercitum in circuitu civitatis, et equos et currus : nuntiavitque ei, dicens : Heu ! heu ! heu ! domine mi : quid faciemus ?

KJV ¹⁶ And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

KJV ¹⁷ And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

OST ¹⁷ Et Élisée pria et dit: O Éternel, daigne ouvrir ses yeux et qu'il voie! Et l'Éternel ouvrit les yeux du serviteur, et il vit; et voici, la montagne était pleine de chevaux et de chars de feu, autour d'Élisée.

KJV ¹⁸ And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

OST ¹⁸ Cependant les Syriens descendirent vers Élisée; alors il pria l'Éternel et dit: Veuille frapper ces gens d'aveuglement. Et Dieu les frappa d'aveuglement, selon la parole d'Élisée.

VULC ¹⁸ Hostes vero descenderunt ad eum : porro Eliseus oravit ad Dominum, dicens : Percute, obsecro, gentem hanc cæcitate. Percussitque eos Dominus ne viderent, juxta verbum Elisei.

KJV ¹⁹ And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.

OST ¹⁹ Et Élisée leur dit: Ce n'est pas ici le chemin et ce n'est pas ici la ville. Suivez-moi; et je vous mènerai vers l'homme que vous cherchez. Et il les mena à Samarie.

KJV ²⁰ And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

OST ²⁰ Et, quand ils furent entrés dans Samarie, Élisée dit: O Éternel, ouvre leurs yeux et qu'ils voient! Et l'Éternel ouvrit leurs yeux, et ils virent; et voici, ils étaient au milieu de Samarie.

KJV ²¹ And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?

OST ²¹ Et dès que le roi d'Israël les vit, il dit à Élisée: Mon père, frapperai-je, frapperai-je?

VULC ²¹ Dixitque rex Israël ad Eliseum, cum vidisset eos : Numquid percutiam eos, pater mi ?

WLC ²¹ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר מֶֽלֶךְ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֶל־ אֱלִישָׁ֔ע כִּרְאֹת֖וֹ אוֹתָ֑ם הַאַכֶּ֥ה אַכֶּ֖ה אָבִֽי׃

KJV ²² And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.

OST ²² Et Élisée répondit: Tu ne frapperas point. Ceux que tu fais prisonniers, les frappes-tu de ton épée et de ton arc? Mets du pain et de l'eau devant eux; qu'ils mangent et boivent, et s'en aillent vers leur seigneur.

VULC ²² At ille ait : Non percuties : neque enim cepisti eos gladio et arcu tuo, ut percutias : sed pone panem et aquam coram eis, ut comedant et bibant, et vadant ad dominum suum.

WLC ²² וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ לֹ֣א תַכֶּ֔ה הַאֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׁבִ֛יתָ בְּחַרְבְּךָ֥ וּֽבְקַשְׁתְּךָ֖ אַתָּ֣ה מַכֶּ֑ה שִׂים֩ לֶ֨חֶם וָמַ֜יִם לִפְנֵיהֶ֗ם וְיֹֽאכְלוּ֙ וְיִשְׁתּ֔וּ וְיֵלְכ֖וּ אֶל־ אֲדֹנֵיהֶֽם׃

KJV ²³ And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.

OST ²³ Et le roi leur fit grande chère; ils mangèrent et burent; puis il les renvoya, et ils s'en allèrent vers leur seigneur. Depuis ce temps-là, les troupes des Syriens ne revinrent plus au pays d'Israël.

VULC ²³ Appositaque est eis ciborum magna præparatio, et comederunt et biberunt, et dimisit eos, abieruntque ad dominum suum, et ultra non venerunt latrones Syriæ in terram Israël.

WLC ²³ וַיִּכְרֶ֨ה לָהֶ֜ם כֵּרָ֣ה גְדוֹלָ֗ה וַיֹּֽאכְלוּ֙ וַיִּשְׁתּ֔וּ וַֽיְשַׁלְּחֵ֔ם וַיֵּלְכ֖וּ אֶל־ אֲדֹֽנֵיהֶ֑ם וְלֹֽא־ יָ֤סְפוּ עוֹד֙ גְּדוּדֵ֣י אֲרָ֔ם לָב֖וֹא בְּאֶ֥רֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ²⁴ And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria.

OST ²⁴ Mais, après ces choses, il arriva que Ben-Hadad, roi de Syrie, assembla toute son armée, monta et assiégea Samarie.

KJV ²⁵ And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.

OST ²⁵ Et il y eut une grande famine dans Samarie; et voici, elle était serrée de si près que la tête d'un âne se vendait quatre-vingts sicles d'argent, et le quart d'un kab de fiente de pigeon, cinq sicles d'argent.

VULC ²⁵ Factaque est fames magna in Samaria : et tamdiu obsessa est, donec venundaretur caput asini octoginta argenteis, et quarta pars cabi stercoris columbarum quinque argenteis.

KJV ²⁶ And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.

KJV ²⁷ And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?

OST ²⁷ Et il dit: Si l'Éternel ne te secourt pas, d'où te secourrais-je? Serait-ce de l'aire ou du pressoir?

VULC ²⁷ Qui ait : Non te salvat Dominus : unde te possum salvare ? de area, vel de torculari ? Dixitque ad eam rex : Quid tibi vis ? Quæ respondit :

WLC ²⁷ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אַל־ יוֹשִׁעֵ֣ךְ יְהוָ֔ה מֵאַ֖יִן אֽוֹשִׁיעֵ֑ךְ הֲמִן־ הַגֹּ֖רֶן א֥וֹ מִן־ הַיָּֽקֶב׃

KJV ²⁸ And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow.

OST ²⁸ Puis le roi lui dit: Qu'as-tu? Et elle dit: Cette femme-là m'a dit: Donne ton fils, et mangeons-le aujourd'hui; et demain nous mangerons le mien.

VULC ²⁸ Mulier ista dixit mihi : Da filium tuum, ut comedamus eum hodie, et filium meum comedemus cras.

WLC ²⁸ וַיֹּֽאמֶר־ לָ֥הּ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ מַה־ לָּ֑ךְ וַתֹּ֗אמֶר הָאִשָּׁ֨ה הַזֹּ֜את אָמְרָ֣ה אֵלַ֗י תְּנִ֤י אֶת־ בְּנֵךְ֙ וְנֹאכְלֶ֣נּוּ הַיּ֔וֹם וְאֶת־ בְּנִ֖י נֹאכַ֥ל מָחָֽר׃

KJV ²⁹ So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.

OST ²⁹ Ainsi nous avons fait cuire mon fils, et nous l'avons mangé; et, le jour suivant, je lui ai dit: Donne ton fils, et mangeons-le.

VULC ²⁹ Coximus ergo filium meum, et comedimus. Dixique ei die altera : Da filium tuum, ut comedamus eum. Quæ abscondit filium suum.

WLC ²⁹ וַנְּבַשֵּׁ֥ל אֶת־ בְּנִ֖י וַנֹּֽאכְלֵ֑הוּ וָאֹמַ֨ר אֵלֶ֜יהָ בַּיּ֣וֹם הָאַחֵ֗ר תְּנִ֤י אֶת־ בְּנֵךְ֙ וְנֹ֣אכְלֶ֔נּוּ וַתַּחְבִּ֖א אֶת־ בְּנָֽהּ׃

KJV ³⁰ And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.

OST ³⁰ Mais elle a caché son fils. Et dès que le roi eut entendu les paroles de cette femme, il déchira ses vêtements; il passait alors sur la muraille, et le peuple vit qu'il avait en dessous un sac sur son corps.

VULC ³⁰ Quod cum audisset rex, scidit vestimenta sua, et transibat per murum. Viditque omnis populus cilicium quo vestitus erat ad carnem intrinsecus.

WLC ³⁰ וַיְהִי֩ כִשְׁמֹ֨עַ הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אֶת־ דִּבְרֵ֤י הָֽאִשָּׁה֙ וַיִּקְרַ֣ע אֶת־ בְּגָדָ֔יו וְה֖וּא עֹבֵ֣ר עַל־ הַחֹמָ֑ה וַיַּ֣רְא הָעָ֔ם וְהִנֵּ֥ה הַשַּׂ֛ק עַל־ בְּשָׂר֖וֹ מִבָּֽיִת׃

KJV ³¹ Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.

OST ³¹ Et il dit: Que Dieu me traite avec la dernière rigueur, si la tête d'Élisée, fils de Shaphat, reste aujourd'hui sur lui!

VULC ³¹ Et ait rex : Hæc mihi faciat Deus, et hæc addat, si steterit caput Elisei filii Saphat super ipsum hodie.

WLC ³¹ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר כֹּֽה־ יַעֲשֶׂה־ לִּ֥י אֱלֹהִ֖ים וְכֹ֣ה יוֹסִ֑ף אִֽם־ יַעֲמֹ֞ד רֹ֣אשׁ אֱלִישָׁ֧ע בֶּן־ שָׁפָ֛ט עָלָ֖יו הַיּֽוֹם׃

KJV ³² But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master's feet behind him?

OST ³² Or, Élisée étant assis dans sa maison et les anciens étant assis avec lui, le roi envoya un homme devant lui. Mais, avant que le messager fût arrivé, Élisée dit aux anciens: Voyez-vous que ce fils de meurtrier envoie quelqu'un pour m'ôter la tête? Lorsque le messager entrera, ayez soin de fermer la porte, et de le retenir à la porte. Entendez-vous le bruit des pas de son maître qui le suit?

VULC ³² Eliseus autem sedebat in domo sua, et senes sedebant cum eo. Præmisit itaque virum : et antequam veniret nuntius ille, dixit ad senes : Numquid scitis quod miserit filius homicidæ hic, ut præcidatur caput meum ? videte ergo : cum venerit nuntius, claudite ostium, et non sinatis eum introire : ecce enim sonitus pedum domini ejus post eum est.

WLC ³² וֶאֱלִישָׁע֙ יֹשֵׁ֣ב בְּבֵית֔וֹ וְהַזְּקֵנִ֖ים יֹשְׁבִ֣ים אִתּ֑וֹ וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח אִ֜ישׁ מִלְּפָנָ֗יו בְּטֶ֣רֶם יָבֹא֩ הַמַּלְאָ֨ךְ אֵלָ֜יו וְה֣וּא ׀ אָמַ֣ר אֶל־ הַזְּקֵנִ֗ים הַרְּאִיתֶם֙ כִּֽי־ שָׁלַ֞ח בֶּן־ הַֽמְרַצֵּ֤חַ הַזֶּה֙ לְהָסִ֣יר אֶת־ רֹאשִׁ֔י רְא֣וּ ׀ כְּבֹ֣א הַמַּלְאָ֗ךְ סִגְר֤וּ הַדֶּ֙לֶת֙ וּלְחַצְתֶּ֤ם אֹתוֹ֙ בַּדֶּ֔לֶת הֲל֗וֹא ק֛וֹל רַגְלֵ֥י אֲדֹנָ֖יו אַחֲרָֽיו׃

KJV ³³ And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?

OST ³³ Comme il leur parlait encore, voici, le messager descendit vers lui, et dit: Voici, ce mal vient de l'Éternel; qu'ai-je plus à attendre de l'Éternel?

VULC ³³ Adhuc illo loquente eis, apparuit nuntius qui veniebat ad eum. Et ait : Ecce, tantum malum a Domino est : quid amplius expectabo a Domino ?

WLC ³³ עוֹדֶ֙נּוּ֙ מְדַבֵּ֣ר עִמָּ֔ם וְהִנֵּ֥ה הַמַּלְאָ֖ךְ יֹרֵ֣ד אֵלָ֑יו וַיֹּ֗אמֶר הִנֵּֽה־ זֹ֤את הָֽרָעָה֙ מֵאֵ֣ת יְהוָ֔ה מָֽה־ אוֹחִ֥יל לַיהוָ֖ה עֽוֹד׃
