BAN ¹ Et il arriva au retour de l'année que, au temps où les rois se mettent en campagne, David envoya Joab et avec lui ses serviteurs et tout Israël ; et ils ravagèrent le pays des fils d'Ammon et assiégèrent Rabba. Et David resta à Jérusalem.

KJV ¹ And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.

BAN ² Et il arriva, au temps du soir, que David se leva de sa couche et se promenait sur la plate-forme de la maison du roi ; et il aperçut de dessus la plate-forme une femme qui se baignait, et cette femme était très belle.

KJV ² And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.

BAN ³ Et David fit demander qui était cette femme, et on lui dit : N'est-ce pas Bathséba, fille d'Eliam, femme d'Urie le Héthien ?

KJV ³ And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?

BAN ⁴ Et David envoya des gens pour la chercher, et elle vint chez lui et il dormit avec elle. Et elle se purifia de sa souillure et retourna dans sa maison.

KJV ⁴ And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house.

BAN ⁵ Et elle se trouva enceinte, et le fit savoir à David en ces mots : Je suis enceinte.

KJV ⁵ And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.

BAN ⁶ Et David envoya cet ordre à Joab : Envoie-moi Urie, le Héthien. Et Joab envoya Urie à David.

KJV ⁶ And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David.

BAN ⁷ Et Urie se rendit auprès de David, et David lui demanda des nouvelles de Joab et de l'armée et de la guerre.

KJV ⁷ And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered.

BAN ⁸ Et David dit à Urie : Descends dans ta maison et lave tes pieds. Et dès qu'il fut sorti du palais, on porta après lui un présent du roi.

KJV ⁸ And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the king.

BAN ⁹ Et Urie se coucha à la porte de la maison du roi, avec tous les serviteurs de son maître, et il ne descendit point dans sa maison.

KJV ⁹ But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.

BAN ¹⁰ Et on en informa David et on lui dit : Urie n'est pas descendu dans sa maison. Et David dit à Urie : N'arrives-tu pas de voyage ? pourquoi n'es-tu pas descendu dans ta maison ?

KJV ¹⁰ And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Camest thou not from thy journey? why then didst thou not go down unto thine house?

BAN ¹¹ Et Urie répondit à David. L'arche et Israël et Juda habitent sous des tentes, et mon seigneur Joab et les serviteurs de mon seigneur campent en rase campagne, et moi j'entrerais dans ma maison pour manger et pour boire et pour coucher avec ma femme ! Par ta vie et par la vie de ton âme, je n'en ferai rien.

KJV ¹¹ And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.

BAN ¹² Et David dit à Urie : Reste ici encore aujourd'hui, et demain je te renverrai. Et Urie resta à Jérusalem ce jour-là et le lendemain.

KJV ¹² And David said to Uriah, Tarry here to day also, and to morrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow.

BAN ¹³ Et David l'invita à manger et à boire chez lui et il l'enivra ; et le soir il sortit pour regagner sa couche auprès des serviteurs de son maître, et il ne descendit point dans sa maison.

KJV ¹³ And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.

BAN ¹⁴ Et le lendemain matin, David écrivit une lettre à Joab, et la lui envoya par la main d'Urie.

KJV ¹⁴ And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.

BAN ¹⁵ Et dans cette lettre il écrivait : Placez Urie au plus fort du combat, et retirez-vous de lui pour qu'il soit frappé et qu'il meure.

KJV ¹⁵ And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.

BAN ¹⁶ Et comme Joab faisait le siège de la ville, il plaça Urie à l'endroit où il savait qu'il y avait des hommes vaillants.

KJV ¹⁶ And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a place where he knew that valiant men were.

BAN ¹⁷ Et les hommes de la ville firent une sortie pour attaquer Joab, et plusieurs d'entre le peuple, d'entre les serviteurs de David, tombèrent ; Urie le Héthien mourut aussi.

KJV ¹⁷ And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.

BAN ¹⁸ Et Joab envoya et fit un rapport à David sur tous les faits du combat.

KJV ¹⁸ Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;

BAN ¹⁹ Et il donna cet ordre au messager : Quand tu auras achevé de raconter au roi tous les faits du combat,

KJV ¹⁹ And charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling the matters of the war unto the king,

BAN ²⁰ si le roi se met en colère et te dit : Pourquoi vous êtes-vous approchés de la ville pour livrer combat ? Ne saviez-vous pas qu'on tirerait du haut de la muraille ?

KJV ²⁰ And if so be that the king's wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore approached ye so nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall?

BAN ²¹ Qui a frappé Abimélec, fils de Jérubbéseth ? Une femme à Thébets n'a-t-elle pas jeté sur lui du haut de la muraille une meule dont il est mort ? Pourquoi vous êtes-vous approchés de la muraille ? alors tu diras : Ton serviteur Urie le Héthien est mort aussi.

KJV ²¹ Who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.

BAN ²² Et le messager partit, et vint rapporter à David tout ce dont Joab l'avait chargé.

KJV ²² So the messenger went, and came and shewed David all that Joab had sent him for.

BAN ²³ Et le messager dit à David : Ces gens avaient été plus forts que nous, et ils avaient fait une sortie contre nous dans la campagne, mais nous les avons repoussés jusqu'à l'entrée de la porte.

KJV ²³ And the messenger said unto David, Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the entering of the gate.

BAN ²⁴ Et les archers ont tiré du haut de la muraille sur tes serviteurs, et plusieurs des serviteurs du roi sont morts ; ton serviteur Urie le Héthien est mort aussi.

KJV ²⁴ And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and some of the king's servants be dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.

BAN ²⁵ Et David dit au messager : Tu diras ainsi à Joab : Ne te chagrine pas de cette affaire ! Car l'épée dévore tantôt l'un, tantôt l'autre ; renforce ton attaque contre la ville et renverse-la. Et ainsi encourage-le.

KJV ²⁵ Then David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another: make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage thou him.

BAN ²⁶ Et la femme d'Urie apprit que son mari était mort, et elle mena deuil sur son maître.

KJV ²⁶ And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.

BAN ²⁷ Et quand le deuil fut passé, David l'envoya chercher et la recueillit dans sa maison, et elle devint sa femme et lui enfanta un fils. Et ce que David avait fait, déplut à l'Eternel.

KJV ²⁷ And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.
