DRB ¹ Et il arriva, après cela, que David interrogea l'Éternel, disant : Monterai-je dans une des villes de Juda ? Et l'Éternel lui dit : Monte. Et David dit. Où monterai-je ? Et il dit : À Hébron.

DRB ² Et David y monta, et ses deux femmes aussi, Akhinoam, la Jizreélite, et Abigaïl, femme de Nabal, le Carmélite.

KJV ² So David went up thither, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail Nabal's wife the Carmelite.

WLC ² וַיַּ֤עַל שָׁם֙ דָּוִ֔ד וְגַ֖ם שְׁתֵּ֣י נָשָׁ֑יו אֲחִינֹ֙עַם֙ הַיִּזְרְעֵלִ֔ית וַאֲבִיגַ֕יִל אֵ֖שֶׁת נָבָ֥ל הַֽכַּרְמְלִֽי׃

DRB ³ Et ses hommes qui étaient avec lui, David les fit monter, chacun avec sa maison, et ils habitèrent dans les villes de Hébron.

KJV ³ And his men that were with him did David bring up, every man with his household: and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.

WLC ³ וַאֲנָשָׁ֧יו אֲשֶׁר־ עִמּ֛וֹ הֶעֱלָ֥ה דָוִ֖ד אִ֣ישׁ וּבֵית֑וֹ וַיֵּשְׁב֖וּ בְּעָרֵ֥י חֶבְרֽוֹן׃

DRB ⁴ Et les hommes de Juda vinrent et oignirent là David pour roi sur la maison de Juda. Et on rapporta à David, disant : Ce sont les hommes de Jabès de Galaad qui ont enterré Saül. *

KJV ⁴ And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, That the men of Jabeshgilead were they that buried Saul.

WLC ⁴ וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ אַנְשֵׁ֣י יְהוּדָ֔ה וַיִּמְשְׁחוּ־ שָׁ֧ם אֶת־ דָּוִ֛ד לְמֶ֖לֶךְ עַל־ בֵּ֣ית יְהוּדָ֑ה וַיַּגִּ֤דוּ לְדָוִד֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר אַנְשֵׁי֙ יָבֵ֣ישׁ גִּלְעָ֔ד אֲשֶׁ֥ר קָבְר֖וּ אֶת־ שָׁאֽוּל׃

DRB ⁵ Et David envoya des messagers aux hommes de Jabès de Galaad, et leur fit dire : Bénis soyez-vous de l'Éternel, de ce que vous avez usé de cette bonté envers votre seigneur Saül, et de ce que vous l'avez enterré !

KJV ⁵ And David sent messengers unto the men of Jabeshgilead, and said unto them, Blessed be ye of the LORD, that ye have shewed this kindness unto your lord, even unto Saul, and have buried him.

DRB ⁶ Et maintenant, que l'Éternel use envers vous de bonté et de vérité ! Et moi aussi je vous rendrai ce bien, parce que vous avez fait cela.

KJV ⁶ And now the LORD shew kindness and truth unto you: and I also will requite you this kindness, because ye have done this thing.

WLC ⁶ וְעַתָּ֕ה יַֽעַשׂ־ יְהוָ֥ה עִמָּכֶ֖ם חֶ֣סֶד וֶאֱמֶ֑ת וְגַ֣ם אָנֹכִ֗י אֶעֱשֶׂ֤ה אִתְּכֶם֙ הַטּוֹבָ֣ה הַזֹּ֔את אֲשֶׁ֥ר עֲשִׂיתֶ֖ם הַדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּֽה׃

DRB ⁷ Et maintenant, que vos mains se fortifient, et soyez des hommes vaillants ; car votre seigneur Saül est mort, et de plus, c'est moi que la maison de Juda a oint pour roi sur elle.

KJV ⁷ Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye valiant: for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.

DRB ⁸ Et Abner, fils de Ner, chef de l'armée de Saül, prit Ish-Bosheth*, fils de Saül, et le fit passer à Mahanaïm

KJV ⁸ But Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul's host, took Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim;

DRB ⁹ et l'établit roi sur Galaad, et sur les Ashurites, et sur Jizreël, et sur Éphraïm, et sur Benjamin, et sur Israël tout entier.

KJV ⁹ And made him king over Gilead, and over the Ashurites, and over Jezreel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel.

DRB ¹⁰ Ish-Bosheth, fils de Saül, était âgé de quarante ans lorsqu'il régna sur Israël, et il régna deux ans. Toutefois la maison de Juda suivit David.

KJV ¹⁰ Ishbosheth Saul's son was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David.

DRB ¹¹ Et le nombre des jours, pendant lesquels David fut roi à Hébron sur la maison de Juda, fut de sept ans et six mois.

KJV ¹¹ And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

KJV ¹² And Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.

WLC ¹² וַיֵּצֵא֙ אַבְנֵ֣ר בֶּן־ נֵ֔ר וְעַבְדֵ֖י אִֽישׁ־ בֹּ֣שֶׁת בֶּן־ שָׁא֑וּל מִֽמַּחֲנַ֖יִם גִּבְעֽוֹנָה׃

DRB ¹³ et Joab, fils de Tseruïa, et les serviteurs de David, sortirent aussi ; et ils se rencontrèrent ensemble près du réservoir de Gabaon ; et ceux-ci s'assirent d'un côté du réservoir, et ceux-là de l'autre côté du réservoir.

KJV ¹³ And Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out, and met together by the pool of Gibeon: and they sat down, the one on the one side of the pool, and the other on the other side of the pool.

DRB ¹⁴ Et Abner dit à Joab : Que les jeunes hommes se lèvent donc et jouent [entre eux] devant nous ! Et Joab dit : Qu'ils se lèvent.

KJV ¹⁴ And Abner said to Joab, Let the young men now arise, and play before us. And Joab said, Let them arise.

WLC ¹⁴ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אַבְנֵר֙ אֶל־ יוֹאָ֔ב יָק֤וּמוּ נָא֙ הַנְּעָרִ֔ים וִֽישַׂחֲק֖וּ לְפָנֵ֑ינוּ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יוֹאָ֖ב יָקֻֽמוּ׃

DRB ¹⁵ Et ils se levèrent et passèrent, au nombre de douze pour Benjamin et pour Ish-Bosheth, fils de Saül, et de douze d'entre les serviteurs de David.

KJV ¹⁵ Then there arose and went over by number twelve of Benjamin, which pertained to Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David.

WLC ¹⁵ וַיָּקֻ֖מוּ וַיַּעַבְר֣וּ בְמִסְפָּ֑ר שְׁנֵ֧ים עָשָׂ֣ר לְבִנְיָמִ֗ן וּלְאִ֥ישׁ בֹּ֙שֶׁת֙ בֶּן־ שָׁא֔וּל וּשְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָׂ֖ר מֵעַבְדֵ֥י דָוִֽד׃

DRB ¹⁶ Et chacun saisit son adversaire* par la tête, et [passa] son épée dans le flanc de son adversaire*, et ils tombèrent [tous] ensemble. Et on appela ce lieu-là Helkath-Hatsurim**, qui est en Gabaon.

KJV ¹⁶ And they caught every one his fellow by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellow's side; so they fell down together: wherefore that place was called Helkathhazzurim, which is in Gibeon.

WLC ¹⁶ וַֽיַּחֲזִ֜קוּ אִ֣ישׁ ׀ בְּרֹ֣אשׁ רֵעֵ֗הוּ וְחַרְבּוֹ֙ בְּצַ֣ד רֵעֵ֔הוּ וַֽיִּפְּל֖וּ יַחְדָּ֑ו וַיִּקְרָא֙ לַמָּק֣וֹם הַה֔וּא חֶלְקַ֥ת הַצֻּרִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּגִבְעֽוֹן׃

DRB ¹⁷ Et le combat fut très rude ce jour-là ; et Abner et les hommes d'Israël furent battus devant les serviteurs de David.

KJV ¹⁷ And there was a very sore battle that day; and Abner was beaten, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David.

WLC ¹⁷ וַתְּהִ֧י הַמִּלְחָמָ֛ה קָשָׁ֥ה עַד־ מְאֹ֖ד בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא וַיִּנָּ֤גֶף אַבְנֵר֙ וְאַנְשֵׁ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לִפְנֵ֖י עַבְדֵ֥י דָוִֽד׃

DRB ¹⁸ Et il y avait là trois fils de Tseruïa, Joab, et Abishaï, et Asçaël.

KJV ¹⁸ And there were three sons of Zeruiah there, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel: and Asahel was as light of foot as a wild roe.

WLC ¹⁸ וַיִּֽהְיוּ־ שָׁ֗ם שְׁלֹשָׁה֙ בְּנֵ֣י צְרוּיָ֔ה יוֹאָ֥ב וַאֲבִישַׁ֖י וַעֲשָׂהאֵ֑ל וַעֲשָׂהאֵל֙ קַ֣ל בְּרַגְלָ֔יו כְּאַחַ֥ד הַצְּבָיִ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר בַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃

DRB ¹⁹ Et Asçaël était léger de ses pieds comme une des gazelles qui sont dans les champs. Et Asçaël poursuivit Abner, et il ne se détourna pas d'Abner pour aller à droite ou à gauche.

KJV ¹⁹ And Asahel pursued after Abner; and in going he turned not to the right hand nor to the left from following Abner.

WLC ¹⁹ וַיִּרְדֹּ֥ף עֲשָׂהאֵ֖ל אַחֲרֵ֣י אַבְנֵ֑ר וְלֹֽא־ נָטָ֣ה לָלֶ֗כֶת עַל־ הַיָּמִין֙ וְעַֽל־ הַשְּׂמֹ֔אול מֵאַחֲרֵ֖י אַבְנֵֽר׃

DRB ²⁰ Et Abner regarda derrière lui, et dit : Est-ce toi, Asçaël ? Et il dit : C'est moi.

KJV ²⁰ Then Abner looked behind him, and said, Art thou Asahel? And he answered, I am.

WLC ²⁰ וַיִּ֤פֶן אַבְנֵר֙ אַֽחֲרָ֔יו וַיֹּ֕אמֶר הַאַתָּ֥ה זֶ֖ה עֲשָׂהאֵ֑ל וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אָנֹֽכִי׃

DRB ²¹ Et Abner lui dit : Détourne-toi à droite ou à gauche, et saisis-toi de l'un des jeunes hommes et prends pour toi son armure. Mais Asçaël ne voulut pas se détourner de lui.

KJV ²¹ And Abner said to him, Turn thee aside to thy right hand or to thy left, and lay thee hold on one of the young men, and take thee his armour. But Asahel would not turn aside from following of him.

WLC ²¹ וַיֹּ֧אמֶר ל֣וֹ אַבְנֵ֗ר נְטֵ֤ה לְךָ֙ עַל־ יְמִֽינְךָ֙ א֣וֹ עַל־ שְׂמֹאלֶ֔ךָ וֶאֱחֹ֣ז לְךָ֗ אֶחָד֙ מֵֽהַנְּעָרִ֔ים וְקַח־ לְךָ֖ אֶת־ חֲלִצָת֑וֹ וְלֹֽא־ אָבָ֣ה עֲשָׂהאֵ֔ל לָס֖וּר מֵאַחֲרָֽיו׃

DRB ²² Et Abner dit encore à Asçaël : Détourne-toi de moi ! Pourquoi te jetterais-je mort par terre ? Et comment lèverais-je ma face devant Joab, ton frère ?

KJV ²² And Abner said again to Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me: wherefore should I smite thee to the ground? how then should I hold up my face to Joab thy brother?

WLC ²² וַיֹּ֧סֶף ע֣וֹד אַבְנֵ֗ר לֵאמֹר֙ אֶל־ עֲשָׂהאֵ֔ל ס֥וּר לְךָ֖ מֵאַֽחֲרָ֑י לָ֤מָּה אַכֶּ֙כָּה֙ אַ֔רְצָה וְאֵיךְ֙ אֶשָּׂ֣א פָנַ֔י אֶל־ יוֹאָ֖ב אָחִֽיךָ׃

DRB ²³ Mais il refusa de se détourner, et Abner le frappa au ventre avec la hampe de sa lance, et sa lance lui sortit par derrière, et il tomba là et mourut sur place. Et tous ceux qui venaient à l'endroit où Asçaël était tombé et était mort, s'arrêtaient.

KJV ²³ Howbeit he refused to turn aside: wherefore Abner with the hinder end of the spear smote him under the fifth rib, that the spear came out behind him; and he fell down there, and died in the same place: and it came to pass, that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died stood still.

WLC ²³ וַיְמָאֵ֣ן לָס֗וּר וַיַּכֵּ֣הוּ אַבְנֵר֩ בְּאַחֲרֵ֨י הַחֲנִ֜ית אֶל־ הַחֹ֗מֶשׁ וַתֵּצֵ֤א הַֽחֲנִית֙ מֵאַחֲרָ֔יו וַיִּפָּל־ שָׁ֖ם וַיָּ֣מָת וַיְהִ֡י כָּל־ הַבָּ֣א אֶֽל־ הַמָּקוֹם֩ אֲשֶׁר־ נָ֨פַל שָׁ֧ם עֲשָׂהאֵ֛ל וַיָּמֹ֖ת וַֽיַּעֲמֹֽדוּ׃

DRB ²⁴ Et Joab et Abishaï poursuivirent Abner ; et le soleil se couchait quand ils arrivèrent à la colline d'Amma, qui est devant Guiakh, sur le chemin du désert de Gabaon.

KJV ²⁴ Joab also and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sun went down when they were come to the hill of Ammah, that lieth before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.

WLC ²⁴ וַֽיִּרְדְּפ֛וּ יוֹאָ֥ב וַאֲבִישַׁ֖י אַחֲרֵ֣י אַבְנֵ֑ר וְהַשֶּׁ֣מֶשׁ בָּ֔אָה וְהֵ֗מָּה בָּ֚אוּ עַד־ גִּבְעַ֣ת אַמָּ֔ה אֲשֶׁר֙ עַל־ פְּנֵי־ גִ֔יחַ דֶּ֖רֶךְ מִדְבַּ֥ר גִּבְעֽוֹן׃

DRB ²⁵ Et les fils de Benjamin se rassemblèrent derrière Abner ; et ils formèrent une seule troupe, et se tinrent sur le sommet d'une colline.

KJV ²⁵ And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together after Abner, and became one troop, and stood on the top of an hill.

WLC ²⁵ וַיִּֽתְקַבְּצ֤וּ בְנֵֽי־ בִנְיָמִן֙ אַחֲרֵ֣י אַבְנֵ֔ר וַיִּהְי֖וּ לַאֲגֻדָּ֣ה אֶחָ֑ת וַיַּ֣עַמְד֔וּ עַ֥ל רֹאשׁ־ גִּבְעָ֖ה אֶחָֽת׃

DRB ²⁶ Et Abner cria à Joab et dit : L'épée dévorera-t-elle à toujours ? Ne sais-tu pas qu'il y aura de l'amertume à la fin ? et jusques à quand ne diras-tu pas au peuple de revenir de la poursuite de ses frères ?

KJV ²⁶ Then Abner called to Joab, and said, Shall the sword devour for ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? how long shall it be then, ere thou bid the people return from following their brethren?

WLC ²⁶ וַיִּקְרָ֨א אַבְנֵ֜ר אֶל־ יוֹאָ֗ב וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ הֲלָנֶ֙צַח֙ תֹּ֣אכַל חֶ֔רֶב הֲל֣וֹא יָדַ֔עְתָּה כִּֽי־ מָרָ֥ה תִהְיֶ֖ה בָּאַחֲרוֹנָ֑ה וְעַד־ מָתַי֙ לֹֽא־ תֹאמַ֣ר לָעָ֔ם לָשׁ֖וּב מֵאַחֲרֵ֥י אֲחֵיהֶֽם׃

DRB ²⁷ Et Joab dit : Dieu est vivant, que, si tu n'avais parlé, dès le matin [déjà] le peuple se serait retiré, chacun de la poursuite de son frère !

KJV ²⁷ And Joab said, As God liveth, unless thou hadst spoken, surely then in the morning the people had gone up every one from following his brother.

WLC ²⁷ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יוֹאָ֔ב חַ֚י הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים כִּ֥י לוּלֵ֖א דִּבַּ֑רְתָּ כִּ֣י אָ֤ז מֵֽהַבֹּ֙קֶר֙ נַעֲלָ֣ה הָעָ֔ם אִ֖ישׁ מֵאַחֲרֵ֥י אָחִֽיו׃

DRB ²⁸ Et Joab sonna de la trompette, et tout le peuple s'arrêta ; et ils ne poursuivirent plus Israël, et ils ne continuèrent plus à se battre.

KJV ²⁸ So Joab blew a trumpet, and all the people stood still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.

WLC ²⁸ וַיִּתְקַ֤ע יוֹאָב֙ בַּשּׁוֹפָ֔ר וַיַּֽעַמְדוּ֙ כָּל־ הָעָ֔ם וְלֹֽא־ יִרְדְּפ֥וּ ע֖וֹד אַחֲרֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְלֹֽא־ יָסְפ֥וּ ע֖וֹד לְהִלָּחֵֽם׃

DRB ²⁹ Et Abner et ses hommes marchèrent toute cette nuit-là dans la plaine*, et traversèrent le Jourdain, et marchèrent par tout le Bithron, et vinrent à Mahanaïm.

KJV ²⁹ And Abner and his men walked all that night through the plain, and passed over Jordan, and went through all Bithron, and they came to Mahanaim.

WLC ²⁹ וְאַבְנֵ֣ר וַֽאֲנָשָׁ֗יו הָֽלְכוּ֙ בָּֽעֲרָבָ֔ה כֹּ֖ל הַלַּ֣יְלָה הַה֑וּא וַיַּעַבְר֣וּ אֶת־ הַיַּרְדֵּ֗ן וַיֵּֽלְכוּ֙ כָּל־ הַבִּתְר֔וֹן וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ מַחֲנָֽיִם׃

DRB ³⁰ Et Joab s'en retourna de la poursuite d'Abner et rassembla tout le peuple ; et, des serviteurs de David, il manquait dix-neuf hommes et Asçaël.

KJV ³⁰ And Joab returned from following Abner: and when he had gathered all the people together, there lacked of David's servants nineteen men and Asahel.

WLC ³⁰ וְיוֹאָ֗ב שָׁ֚ב מֵאַחֲרֵ֣י אַבְנֵ֔ר וַיִּקְבֹּ֖ץ אֶת־ כָּל־ הָעָ֑ם וַיִּפָּ֨קְד֜וּ מֵעַבְדֵ֥י דָוִ֛ד תִּשְׁעָֽה־ עָשָׂ֥ר אִ֖ישׁ וַעֲשָׂה־ אֵֽל׃

DRB ³¹ Et les serviteurs de David avaient frappé à mort trois cent soixante hommes de Benjamin et des hommes d'Abner.

KJV ³¹ But the servants of David had smitten of Benjamin, and of Abner's men, so that three hundred and threescore men died.

WLC ³¹ וְעַבְדֵ֣י דָוִ֗ד הִכּוּ֙ מִבִּנְיָמִ֔ן וּבְאַנְשֵׁ֖י אַבְנֵ֑ר שְׁלֹשׁ־ מֵא֧וֹת וְשִׁשִּׁ֛ים אִ֖ישׁ מֵֽתוּ׃

DRB ³² Et ils enlevèrent Asçaël, et l'enterrèrent dans le sépulcre de son père, qui était à Bethléhem ; et Joab et ses hommes marchèrent toute la nuit ; et il faisait jour lorsqu'ils [arrivèrent] à Hébron.

KJV ³² And they took up Asahel, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father, which was in Bethlehem. And Joab and his men went all night, and they came to Hebron at break of day.

WLC ³² וַיִּשְׂאוּ֙ אֶת־ עֲשָׂהאֵ֔ל וַֽיִּקְבְּרֻ֙הוּ֙ בְּקֶ֣בֶר אָבִ֔יו אֲשֶׁ֖ר בֵּ֣ית לָ֑חֶם וַיֵּלְכ֣וּ כָל־ הַלַּ֗יְלָה יוֹאָב֙ וַֽאֲנָשָׁ֔יו וַיֵּאֹ֥ר לָהֶ֖ם בְּחֶבְרֽוֹן׃
