KJV ¹ The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.

VULC ¹ Visio Abdiæ. [Hæc dicit Dominus Deus ad Edom :
Auditum audivimus a Domino,
et legatum ad gentes misit :
surgite, et consurgamus adversus eum in prælium.

WLC ¹ חֲז֖וֹן עֹֽבַדְיָ֑ה כֹּֽה־ אָמַר֩ אֲדֹנָ֨י יְהוִ֜ה לֶאֱד֗וֹם שְׁמוּעָ֨ה שָׁמַ֜עְנוּ מֵאֵ֤ת יְהוָה֙ וְצִיר֙ בַּגּוֹיִ֣ם שֻׁלָּ֔ח ק֛וּמוּ וְנָק֥וּמָה עָלֶיהָ לַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃

BCC ² Voici que je t'ai rendu petit parmi les nations, tu es l'objet du plus grand mépris.

KJV ² Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen: thou art greatly despised.

VULC ² Ecce parvulum dedi te in gentibus :
contemptibilis tu es valde.

WLC ² הִנֵּ֥ה קָטֹ֛ן נְתַתִּ֖יךָ בַּגּוֹיִ֑ם בָּז֥וּי אַתָּ֖ה מְאֹֽד׃

BCC ³ La fierté de ton coeur t'a égaré ! Lui qui habite dans des creux de rochers, dont les hauteurs sont la demeure, il dit dans son coeur : "Qui me fera descendre à terre ?"

KJV ³ The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?

VULC ³ Superbia cordis tui extulit te,
habitantem in scissuris petrarum,
exaltantem solium tuum ;
qui dicis in corde tuo :
Quis detrahet me in terram ?

WLC ³ זְד֤וֹן לִבְּךָ֙ הִשִּׁיאֶ֔ךָ שֹׁכְנִ֥י בְחַגְוֵי־ סֶּ֖לַע מְר֣וֹם שִׁבְתּ֑וֹ אֹמֵ֣ר בְּלִבּ֔וֹ מִ֥י יוֹרִדֵ֖נִי אָֽרֶץ׃

BCC ⁴ Quand tu t'élèverais aussi haut que l'aigle, que tu placerais ton aire parmi les étoiles, je t'en ferais descendre, ‒ oracle de Yahweh.

KJV ⁴ Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.

VULC ⁴ Si exaltatus fueris ut aquila,
et si inter sidera posueris nidum tuum,
inde detraham te, dicit Dominus.

WLC ⁴ אִם־ תַּגְבִּ֣יהַּ כַּנֶּ֔שֶׁר וְאִם־ בֵּ֥ין כּֽוֹכָבִ֖ים שִׂ֣ים קִנֶּ֑ךָ מִשָּׁ֥ם אוֹרִֽידְךָ֖ נְאֻם־ יְהוָֽה׃

BCC ⁵ Si des voleurs étaient entrés chez toi, des pillards de nuit, ‒ comme te voilà dévasté ! ‒ n'auraient-ils pas emporté que ce qui leur suffisait ? Si des vendangeurs étaient entrés chez toi, n'auraient-ils rien laissé à grappiller ?

KJV ⁵ If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) would they not have stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave some grapes?

VULC ⁵ Si fures introissent ad te,
si latrones per noctem,
quomodo conticuisses ?
nonne furati essent sufficientia sibi ?
Si vindemiatores introissent ad te,
numquid saltem racemum reliquissent tibi ?

WLC ⁵ אִם־ גַּנָּבִ֤ים בָּאֽוּ־ לְךָ֙ אִם־ שׁ֣וֹדְדֵי לַ֔יְלָה אֵ֣יךְ נִדְמֵ֔יתָה הֲל֥וֹא יִגְנְב֖וּ דַּיָּ֑ם אִם־ בֹּֽצְרִים֙ בָּ֣אוּ לָ֔ךְ הֲל֖וֹא יַשְׁאִ֥ירוּ עֹלֵלֽוֹת׃

BCC ⁶ Comme Ésaü a été fouillé, comme on a cherché ses trésors cachés !

KJV ⁶ How are the things of Esau searched out! how are his hidden things sought up!

VULC ⁶ Quomodo scrutati sunt Esau ;
investigaverunt abscondita ejus ?

WLC ⁶ אֵ֚יךְ נֶחְפְּשׂ֣וּ עֵשָׂ֔ו נִבְע֖וּ מַצְפֻּנָֽיו׃

BCC ⁷ Ils t'ont chassé jusqu'à la frontière, tous tes alliés ; ils t'ont joué, ils ont prévalu sur toi, ceux qui jouissaient de ton amitié ; ceux qui mangeaient ton pain ont mis un piège sous tes pas. Il n'y a point en lui d'intelligence !

KJV ⁷ All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee even to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, and prevailed against thee; that they eat thy bread have laid a wound under thee: there is none understanding in him.

omnes viri fœderis tui illuserunt tibi :

BCC ⁸ Est-ce qu'en ce jour-là, ‒ oracle de Yahweh, je n'ôterai pas d'Édom les sages, et de la montagne d'Ésaü l'intelligence ?

KJV ⁸ Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?

VULC ⁸ Numquid non in die illa, dicit Dominus,
perdam sapientes de Idumæa,
et prudentiam de monte Esau ?

BCC ⁹ Tes guerriers, ô Théman, seront dans l'épouvante, afin que tout homme soit retranché de la montagne d'Ésaü,

KJV ⁹ And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.

BCC ¹⁰ À cause du massacre, à cause de la violence contre ton frère Jacob ; la honte te couvrira, et tu seras retranché à jamais.

KJV ¹⁰ For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.

VULC ¹⁰ Propter interfectionem,
et propter iniquitatem in fratrem tuum Jacob,
operiet te confusio, et peribis in æternum.

WLC ¹⁰ מֵחֲמַ֛ס אָחִ֥יךָ יַעֲקֹ֖ב תְּכַסְּךָ֣ בוּשָׁ֑ה וְנִכְרַ֖תָּ לְעוֹלָֽם׃

BCC ¹¹ Au jour où tu te tenais en face de lui, au jour où des ennemis emmenaient son armée, et où des étrangers pénétraient dans ses portes, et jetaient le sort sur Jérusalem, toi aussi, tu étais comme l'un d'eux !

BCC ¹² Ne repais pas ta vue du jour de ton frère, au jour de son infortune ; ne te réjouis pas au sujet des enfants de Juda, au jour de leur ruine ; et ne profère pas d'insolentes paroles, au jour de la détresse.

KJV ¹² But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.

BCC ¹³ N'entre pas dans la porte de mon peuple ; au jour de leur calamité ; ne repais pas ta vue, toi aussi, de son malheur, au jour de sa calamité ; et n'étends pas ta main sur ses richesses, au jour de sa calamité.

BCC ¹⁴ Ne te tiens pas au carrefour des chemins, pour massacrer ses fuyards ; ne livre pas ses réchappés, au jour de la détresse.

KJV ¹⁴ Neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress.

BCC ¹⁵ Car il est proche le jour de Yahweh, pour toutes les nations ; comme tu as fait, il te sera fait ; ton oeuvre retombera sur ta tête.

KJV ¹⁵ For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.

BCC ¹⁶ Car, de même que vous avez bu sur ma sainte montagne, toutes les nations boiront continuellement ; elles boiront, elles avaleront, et elles seront comme n'ayant pas été.

BCC ¹⁷ Mais sur la montagne de Sion il y aura des réchappés ; elle sera un lieu saint, et la maison de Jacob rentrera dans ses possessions.

KJV ¹⁷ But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.

BCC ¹⁸ La maison de Jacob sera un feu, la maison de Joseph une flamme, et la maison d'Ésaü sera réduite à être du chaume. Celles-là l'allumeront et le dévoreront, et il n'y aura pas de survivant pour la maison d'Ésaü ; car Yahweh a parlé.

KJV ¹⁸ And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.

BCC ¹⁹ Ceux du négéb posséderont la montagne d'Ésaü et ceux de la sephélah le pays des Philistins ; Ils posséderont le territoire d'Éphraïm, et le territoire de Samarie ; et ceux de Benjamin posséderont Galaad.

BCC ²⁰ Les captifs de cette armée des enfants d'Israël posséderont le pays des Chananéens jusqu'à Sarepta. Et les captifs de Jérusalem qui sont à Sépharad posséderont les villes du négéb.

KJV ²⁰ And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall possess that of the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.

omnia loca Chananæorum usque ad Sareptam :
et transmigratio Jerusalem, quæ in Bosphoro est,
possidebit civitates austri.

WLC ²⁰ וְגָלֻ֣ת הַֽחֵל־ הַ֠זֶּה לִבְנֵ֨י יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל אֲשֶֽׁר־ כְּנַעֲנִים֙ עַד־ צָ֣רְפַ֔ת וְגָלֻ֥ת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֣ר בִּסְפָרַ֑ד יִֽרְשׁ֕וּ אֵ֖ת עָרֵ֥י הַנֶּֽגֶב׃

BCC ²¹ Et des libérateurs monteront à la montagne de Sion, pour juger la montagne d'Ésaü ; et à Yahweh sera l'empire.

KJV ²¹ And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD's.

VULC ²¹ Et ascendent salvatores in montem Sion judicare montem Esau,
et erit Domino regnum.]

WLC ²¹ וְעָל֤וּ מֽוֹשִׁעִים֙ בְּהַ֣ר צִיּ֔וֹן לִשְׁפֹּ֖ט אֶת־ הַ֣ר עֵשָׂ֑ו וְהָיְתָ֥ה לַֽיהוָ֖ה הַמְּלוּכָֽה׃
