BAN ¹ Or, vers ce temps-là, le roi Hérode se mit à maltraiter quelques-uns de l'Eglise.

KJV ¹ Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.

BAN ² Et il fit mourir par l'épée Jacques, frère de Jean.

KJV ² And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

BAN ³ Et voyant que cela était agréable aux Juifs, il fit encore arrêter Pierre. Or c'était pendant les jours des pains sans levain.

KJV ³ And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

BAN ⁴ Et après l'avoir saisi, il le mit en prison, le donnant à garder à quatre escouades de quatre soldats chacune, dans le dessein de le faire comparaître devant le peuple, après la Pâques.

KJV ⁴ And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

BAN ⁵ Pierre donc était gardé dans la prison ; mais l'Eglise faisait d'instantes prières à Dieu pour lui.

KJV ⁵ Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

BAN ⁶ Or, quand Hérode allait le faire comparaître en public, cette nuit même, Pierre dormait entre deux soldats, étant lié de deux chaînes ; et des sentinelles devant la porte gardaient la prison.

KJV ⁶ And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

BAN ⁷ Et voici, un ange du Seigneur survint, et une lumière resplendit dans le cachot, et l'ange, frappant Pierre au côté, le réveilla, disant : Lève-toi promptement. Et les chaînes tombèrent de ses mains.

KJV ⁷ And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

BAN ⁸ Et l'ange lui dit : Ceins-toi, et chausse tes sandales. Et il fit ainsi. Et il lui dit : Enveloppe-toi de ton manteau et suis-moi.

KJV ⁸ And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

BAN ⁹ Et Pierre étant sorti, le suivait, et il ne savait pas que ce qui se faisait par l'ange fût réel, mais il croyait avoir une vision.

KJV ⁹ And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.

BAN ¹⁰ Et après qu'ils eurent passé la première et la seconde garde, ils vinrent à la porte de fer qui conduit à la ville, et qui s'ouvrit d'elle-même à eux ; et étant sortis, ils s'avancèrent dans une rue ; et aussitôt l'ange se retira d'avec lui.

KJV ¹⁰ When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

BAN ¹¹ Et Pierre, revenu à lui-même, dit : Maintenant je sais véritablement que le Seigneur a envoyé son ange, et qu'il m'a délivré de la main d'Hérode et de tout ce qu'attendait le peuple juif.

KJV ¹¹ And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the LORD hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

BAN ¹² Et ayant compris, il se dirigea vers la maison de Marie, mère de Jean, surnommé Marc, où beaucoup de personnes étaient assemblées et priaient.

KJV ¹² And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.

BAN ¹³ Quand il eut heurté à la porte d'entrée, une servante, nommée Rhode, s'approcha pour écouter.

KJV ¹³ And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.

BAN ¹⁴ Et ayant reconnu la voix de Pierre, de la joie qu'elle eut, elle n'ouvrit point la porte ; mais étant rentrée en courant, elle annonça que Pierre était devant la porte.

KJV ¹⁴ And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.

BAN ¹⁵ Mais eux lui dirent : Tu es folle ! Mais elle assurait qu'il en était ainsi. Et eux disaient : C'est son ange.

KJV ¹⁵ And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.

BAN ¹⁶ Et Pierre continuait à heurter ; et quand ils eurent ouvert, ils le virent, et furent dans l'étonnement.

KJV ¹⁶ But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.

BAN ¹⁷ Mais leur ayant fait signe de la main de se taire, il leur raconta comment le Seigneur l'avait conduit hors de la prison, et il dit : Annoncez ces choses à Jacques et aux frères. Et étant sorti, il s'en alla dans un autre lieu.

KJV ¹⁷ But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.

BAN ¹⁸ Le jour venu, il y eut un grand trouble parmi les soldats pour savoir ce que Pierre pouvait être devenu.

KJV ¹⁸ Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.

BAN ¹⁹ Mais Hérode, l'ayant fait chercher et ne l'ayant pas trouvé, fit subir un interrogatoire aux gardes et ordonna de les mener au supplice. Et étant descendu de la Judée à Césarée, il y séjournait.

KJV ¹⁹ And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and there abode.

BAN ²⁰ Or Hérode était en hostilité avec les Tyriens et les Sidoniens. Mais ils vinrent le trouver d'un commun accord ; et ayant gagné Blaste, chambellan du roi, ils demandaient la paix, parce que leur pays tirait sa subsistance de celui du roi.

KJV ²⁰ And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king's country.

BAN ²¹ A un jour fixé, Hérode, revêtu de ses habits royaux, assis sur son trône, les haranguait publiquement.

KJV ²¹ And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

BAN ²² Et le peuple s'écriait : Voix d'un dieu, et non d'un homme !

KJV ²² And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

BAN ²³ Et à l'instant, un ange du Seigneur le frappa, parce qu'il n'avait pas donné à Dieu la gloire ; et, rongé des vers il expira.

KJV ²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

BAN ²⁴ Mais la parole de Dieu faisait des progrès et se répandait de plus en plus.

KJV ²⁴ But the word of God grew and multiplied.

BAN ²⁵ Et Barnabas et Saul, après avoir rempli leur mission, s'en retournèrent de Jérusalem, emmenant avec eux Jean, surnommé Marc.

KJV ²⁵ And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.
