BAN ⁴ Alors Paul dit : Jean a baptisé d'un baptême de repentance, en disant au peuple de croire en celui qui venait après lui, c'est-à-dire en Jésus.

KJV ⁴ Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

KJV ⁹ But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

KJV ¹² So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

BAN ¹³ Or quelques-uns aussi des exorcistes juifs ambulants entreprirent d'invoquer le nom du Seigneur Jésus sur ceux qui avaient les malins esprits, en disant : Je vous adjure par ce Jésus que Paul prêche.

KJV ¹³ Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the LORD Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

KJV ¹⁶ And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

BAN ¹⁷ Et cela fut connu de tous les Juifs et Grecs qui habitaient Ephèse, et la crainte les saisit tous et le nom du Seigneur Jésus était magnifié.

KJV ¹⁷ And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

BAN ¹⁸ Et plusieurs de ceux qui avaient cru venaient confesser et déclarer leurs pratiques.

KJV ¹⁸ And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

BAN ¹⁹ Et un assez grand nombre de ceux qui avaient pratiqué les arts occultes, ayant apporté les livres, les brûlaient en présence de tous. Et on en calcula le prix, et on trouva qu'il se montait à cinquante mille pièces d'argent.

KJV ¹⁹ Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

BAN ²¹ Or, après que ces choses se furent accomplies, Paul se proposa d'aller à Jérusalem, après avoir passé par la Macédoine et par l'Achaïe, disant : Après que j'aurai été là, il faut aussi que je voie Rome.

KJV ²¹ After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.

KJV ²² So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.

KJV ²³ And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.

BAN ²⁴ car un nommé Démétrius, orfèvre, qui faisait des temples de Diane en argent, procurait aux artisans un grand profit,

KJV ²⁴ For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;

TR1550 ²⁴ δημήτριος γάρ τις ὀνόματι ἀργυροκόπος ποιῶν ναοὺς ἀργυροῦς ἀρτέμιδος παρείχετο τοῖς τεχνίταις ἐργασίαν οὐκ ὀλίγην

BAN ²⁵ et les ayant assemblés ainsi que les ouvriers du même métier, il leur dit : hommes, vous savez que de ce gain vient notre bien- être ;

KJV ²⁵ Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.

TR1550 ²⁵ οὓς συναθροίσας καὶ τοὺς περὶ τὰ τοιαῦτα ἐργάτας εἶπεν ἄνδρες ἐπίστασθε ὅτι ἐκ ταύτης τῆς ἐργασίας ἡ εὐπορία ἡμῶν ἐστιν

BAN ²⁶ et vous voyez et vous entendez que, non seulement à Ephèse, mais dans presque toute l'Asie, ce Paul a détourné par persuasion une foule considérable, en disant que les dieux faits par les mains des hommes ne sont pas des dieux.

KJV ²⁶ Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:

TR1550 ²⁶ καὶ θεωρεῖτε καὶ ἀκούετε ὅτι οὐ μόνον ἐφέσου ἀλλὰ σχεδὸν πάσης τῆς ἀσίας ὁ παῦλος οὗτος πείσας μετέστησεν ἱκανὸν ὄχλον λέγων ὅτι οὐκ εἰσὶν θεοὶ οἱ διὰ χειρῶν γινόμενοι

BAN ²⁷ Et il en résulte le danger, non seulement que pour nous cette industrie ne tombe en discrédit, mais que même le temple de la grande déesse Diane ne soit tenu pour rien, et qu'elle soit dépouillée de sa majesté, elle que toute l'Asie et toute la terre révèrent.

KJV ²⁷ So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.

BAN ²⁸ Ayant entendu ces paroles et étant remplis de colère, ils criaient disant : Grande est la Diane des Ephésiens !

KJV ²⁸ And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

TR1550 ²⁸ ἀκούσαντες δὲ καὶ γενόμενοι πλήρεις θυμοῦ ἔκραζον λέγοντες μεγάλη ἡ ἄρτεμις ἐφεσίων

BAN ²⁹ Et la ville fut remplie de ce tumulte, et ils se précipitèrent tous ensemble dans le théâtre, entraînant avec eux Gaïus et Aristarque, Macédoniens, compagnons de voyage de Paul.

KJV ²⁹ And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.

BAN ³⁰ Et comme Paul voulait se présenter devant le peuple, les disciples ne le lui permettaient pas.

KJV ³⁰ And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.

KJV ³¹ And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.

BAN ³² Les uns donc criaient une chose, les autres une autre ; car l'assemblée était tumultueuse, et la plupart ne savaient même pas pourquoi ils étaient réunis.

KJV ³² Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused: and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.

BAN ³³ Et l'on instruisit un homme tiré de la foule, Alexandre, que les Juifs poussaient en avant. Et Alexandre, faisant signe de la main, voulait adresser au peuple une apologie.

KJV ³³ And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people.

TR1550 ³³ ἐκ δὲ τοῦ ὄχλου προεβίβασαν ἀλέξανδρον προβαλόντων αὐτὸν τῶν ἰουδαίων ὁ δὲ ἀλέξανδρος κατασείσας τὴν χεῖρα ἤθελεν ἀπολογεῖσθαι τῷ δήμῳ

BAN ³⁴ Mais dès qu'ils reconnurent qu'il était Juif, tous d'une seule voix crièrent pendant près de deux heures : Grande est la Diane des Ephésiens !

KJV ³⁴ But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

BAN ³⁵ Or le secrétaire, ayant apaisé la foule, dit : Hommes Ephésiens ! qui est donc l'homme qui ne sache pas que la ville des Ephésiens est la gardienne du temple de la grande Diane, et de son image tombée du ciel ?

KJV ³⁵ And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

TR1550 ³⁵ καταστείλας δὲ ὁ γραμματεὺς τὸν ὄχλον φησίν ἄνδρες ἐφέσιοι τίς γάρ ἐστιν ἄνθρωπος ὃς οὐ γινώσκει τὴν ἐφεσίων πόλιν νεωκόρον οὖσαν τῆς μεγάλης θεᾶς ἀρτέμιδος καὶ τοῦ διοπετοῦς

BAN ³⁶ Gela étant donc incontestable, vous devez vous apaiser et ne rien faire avec précipitation.

KJV ³⁶ Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.

KJV ³⁷ For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.

TR1550 ³⁷ ἠγάγετε γὰρ τοὺς ἄνδρας τούτους οὔτε ἱεροσύλους οὔτε βλασφημοῦντας τὴν θεὰν ὑμῶν

BAN ³⁸ Que si Démétrius et les artisans qui sont avec lui ont quelque plainte à faire contre quelqu'un, on tient des audiences publiques, et il y a des proconsuls ; qu'ils s'appellent en justice les uns les autres.

KJV ³⁸ Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.

BAN ³⁹ Et si vous avez quelque autre question à proposer, on la décidera dans l'assemblée légale.

KJV ³⁹ But if ye enquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.

TR1550 ³⁹ εἰ δέ τι πὲρι ἑτέρων ἐπιζητεῖτε ἐν τῇ ἐννόμῳ ἐκκλησίᾳ ἐπιλυθήσεται

BAN ⁴⁰ Car nous sommes même en danger d'être accusés de sédition pour ce qui s'est passé aujourd'hui, puisqu'il n'existe aucun motif que nous puissions invoquer pour rendre raison de cet attroupement. Et ayant dit cela, il congédia l'assemblée.

KJV ⁴⁰ For we are in danger to be called in question for this day's uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.

KJV ⁴¹ And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.
