KJV ¹ Hear ye this word which I take up against you, even a lamentation, O house of Israel.

KJV ² The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land; there is none to raise her up.

WLC ² נָֽפְלָה֙ לֹֽא־ תוֹסִ֣יף ק֔וּם בְּתוּלַ֖ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל נִטְּשָׁ֥ה עַל־ אַדְמָתָ֖הּ אֵ֥ין מְקִימָֽהּ׃

KJV ³ For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.

VULC ³ Quia hæc dicit Dominus Deus :
Urbs de qua egrediebantur mille,
relinquentur in ea centum ;
et de qua egrediebantur centum,
relinquentur in ea decem in domo Israël.

WLC ³ כִּ֣י כֹ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה הָעִ֛יר הַיֹּצֵ֥את אֶ֖לֶף תַּשְׁאִ֣יר מֵאָ֑ה וְהַיּוֹצֵ֥את מֵאָ֛ה תַּשְׁאִ֥יר עֲשָׂרָ֖ה לְבֵ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ⁴ For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:

VULC ⁴ Quia hæc dicit Dominus domui Israël :
Quærite me, et vivetis.

WLC ⁴ כִּ֣י כֹ֥ה אָמַ֛ר יְהוָ֖ה לְבֵ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל דִּרְשׁ֖וּנִי וִֽחְיֽוּ׃

KJV ⁵ But seek not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beersheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nought.

VULC ⁵ Et nolite quærere Bethel,
et in Galgalam nolite intrare,
et in Bersabee non transibitis,
quia Galgala captiva ducetur,
et Bethel erit inutilis.

WLC ⁵ וְאַֽל־ תִּדְרְשׁוּ֙ בֵּֽית־ אֵ֔ל וְהַגִּלְגָּל֙ לֹ֣א תָבֹ֔אוּ וּבְאֵ֥ר שֶׁ֖בַע לֹ֣א תַעֲבֹ֑רוּ כִּ֤י הַגִּלְגָּל֙ גָּלֹ֣ה יִגְלֶ֔ה וּבֵֽית־ אֵ֖ל יִהְיֶ֥ה לְאָֽוֶן׃

KJV ⁶ Seek the LORD, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Bethel.

KJV ⁷ Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth,

VULC ⁷ qui convertitis in absinthium judicium,
et justitiam in terra relinquitis) :

WLC ⁷ הַהֹפְכִ֥ים לְלַעֲנָ֖ה מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וּצְדָקָ֖ה לָאָ֥רֶץ הִנִּֽיחוּ׃

KJV ⁸ Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:

WLC ⁸ עֹשֵׂ֨ה כִימָ֜ה וּכְסִ֗יל וְהֹפֵ֤ךְ לַבֹּ֙קֶר֙ צַלְמָ֔וֶת וְי֖וֹם לַ֣יְלָה הֶחְשִׁ֑יךְ הַקּוֹרֵ֣א לְמֵֽי־ הַיָּ֗ם וַֽיִּשְׁפְּכֵ֛ם עַל־ פְּנֵ֥י הָאָ֖רֶץ יְהוָ֥ה שְׁמֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁹ That strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong, so that the spoiled shall come against the fortress.

VULC ⁹ qui subridet vastitatem super robustum,
et depopulationem super potentem affert.

WLC ⁹ הַמַּבְלִ֥יג שֹׁ֖ד עַל־ עָ֑ז וְשֹׁ֖ד עַל־ מִבְצָ֥ר יָבֽוֹא׃

KJV ¹⁰ They hate him that rebuketh in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.

VULC ¹⁰ Odio habuerunt corripientem in porta,
et loquentem perfecte abominati sunt.

WLC ¹⁰ שָׂנְא֥וּ בַשַּׁ֖עַר מוֹכִ֑יחַ וְדֹבֵ֥ר תָּמִ֖ים יְתָעֵֽבוּ׃

KJV ¹¹ Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them.

VULC ¹¹ Idcirco, pro eo quod diripiebatis pauperem,
et prædam electam tollebatis ab eo,
domos quadro lapide ædificabitis,
et non habitabitis in eis ;
vineas plantabis amantissimas,
et non bibetis vinum earum.

WLC ¹¹ לָ֠כֵן יַ֣עַן בּוֹשַׁסְכֶ֞ם עַל־ דָּ֗ל וּמַשְׂאַת־ בַּר֙ תִּקְח֣וּ מִמֶּ֔נּוּ בָּתֵּ֥י גָזִ֛ית בְּנִיתֶ֖ם וְלֹא־ תֵ֣שְׁבוּ בָ֑ם כַּרְמֵי־ חֶ֣מֶד נְטַעְתֶּ֔ם וְלֹ֥א תִשְׁתּ֖וּ אֶת־ יֵינָֽם׃

KJV ¹² For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right.

VULC ¹² Quia cognovi multa scelera vestra,
et fortia peccata vestra :
hostes justi, accipientes munus,
et pauperes deprimentes in porta.

WLC ¹² כִּ֤י יָדַ֙עְתִּי֙ רַבִּ֣ים פִּשְׁעֵיכֶ֔ם וַעֲצֻמִ֖ים חַטֹּֽאתֵיכֶ֑ם צֹרְרֵ֤י צַדִּיק֙ לֹ֣קְחֵי כֹ֔פֶר וְאֶבְיוֹנִ֖ים בַּשַּׁ֥עַר הִטּֽוּ׃

KJV ¹³ Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time.

VULC ¹³ Ideo prudens in tempore illo tacebit,
quia tempus malum est.

WLC ¹³ לָכֵ֗ן הַמַּשְׂכִּ֛יל בָּעֵ֥ת הַהִ֖יא יִדֹּ֑ם כִּ֛י עֵ֥ת רָעָ֖ה הִֽיא׃

KJV ¹⁴ Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.

VULC ¹⁴ Quærite bonum, et non malum, ut vivatis ;
et erit Dominus Deus exercituum vobiscum, sicut dixistis.

WLC ¹⁴ דִּרְשׁוּ־ ט֥וֹב וְאַל־ רָ֖ע לְמַ֣עַן תִּֽחְי֑וּ וִיהִי־ כֵ֞ן יְהוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֵֽי־ צְבָא֛וֹת אִתְּכֶ֖ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר אֲמַרְתֶּֽם׃

KJV ¹⁵ Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

VULC ¹⁵ Odite malum et diligite bonum,
et constituite in porta judicium :
si forte misereatur Dominus Deus exercituum reliquiis Joseph.

WLC ¹⁵ שִׂנְאוּ־ רָע֙ וְאֶ֣הֱבוּ ט֔וֹב וְהַצִּ֥יגוּ בַשַּׁ֖עַר מִשְׁפָּ֑ט אוּלַ֗י יֶֽחֱנַ֛ן יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵֽי־ צְבָא֖וֹת שְׁאֵרִ֥ית יוֹסֵֽף׃

KJV ¹⁶ Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the LORD, saith thus; Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing.

VULC ¹⁶ Propterea hæc dicit Dominus Deus exercituum, dominator :
In omnibus plateis planctus ;
et in cunctis quæ foris sunt, dicetur : Væ, væ !
et vocabunt agricolam ad luctum,

KJV ¹⁷ And in all vineyards shall be wailing: for I will pass through thee, saith the LORD.

VULC ¹⁷ Et in omnibus vineis erit planctus,
quia pertransibo in medio tui,

KJV ¹⁸ Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.

ad quid eam vobis ?
Dies Domini ista, tenebræ, et non lux.

KJV ¹⁹ As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

VULC ¹⁹ Quomodo si fugiat vir a facie leonis,
et occurrat ei ursus ;
et ingrediatur domum, et innitatur manu sua super parietem,
et mordeat eum coluber.

WLC ¹⁹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר יָנ֥וּס אִישׁ֙ מִפְּנֵ֣י הָאֲרִ֔י וּפְגָע֖וֹ הַדֹּ֑ב וּבָ֣א הַבַּ֔יִת וְסָמַ֤ךְ יָדוֹ֙ עַל־ הַקִּ֔יר וּנְשָׁכ֖וֹ הַנָּחָֽשׁ׃

KJV ²⁰ Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

VULC ²⁰ Numquid non tenebræ dies Domini, et non lux ;
et caligo, et non splendor in ea ?

WLC ²⁰ הֲלֹא־ חֹ֛שֶׁךְ י֥וֹם יְהוָ֖ה וְלֹא־ א֑וֹר וְאָפֵ֖ל וְלֹא־ נֹ֥גַֽהּ לֽוֹ׃

KJV ²¹ I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.

VULC ²¹ Odi, et projeci festivitates vestras,
et non capiam odorem cœtuum vestrorum.

WLC ²¹ שָׂנֵ֥אתִי מָאַ֖סְתִּי חַגֵּיכֶ֑ם וְלֹ֥א אָרִ֖יחַ בְּעַצְּרֹֽתֵיכֶֽם׃

KJV ²² Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.

VULC ²² Quod si obtuleritis mihi holocautomata, et munera vestra,
non suscipiam ;
et vota pinguium vestrorum non respiciam.

WLC ²² כִּ֣י אִם־ תַּעֲלוּ־ לִ֥י עֹל֛וֹת וּמִנְחֹתֵיכֶ֖ם לֹ֣א אֶרְצֶ֑ה וְשֶׁ֥לֶם מְרִיאֵיכֶ֖ם לֹ֥א אַבִּֽיט׃

KJV ²³ Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.

VULC ²³ Aufer a me tumultum carminum tuorum ;
et cantica lyræ tuæ non audiam.

WLC ²³ הָסֵ֥ר מֵעָלַ֖י הֲמ֣וֹן שִׁרֶ֑יךָ וְזִמְרַ֥ת נְבָלֶ֖יךָ לֹ֥א אֶשְׁמָֽע׃

KJV ²⁴ But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.

VULC ²⁴ Et revelabitur quasi aqua judicium,
et justitia quasi torrens fortis.

WLC ²⁴ וְיִגַּ֥ל כַּמַּ֖יִם מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וּצְדָקָ֖ה כְּנַ֥חַל אֵיתָֽן׃

KJV ²⁵ Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?

VULC ²⁵ Numquid hostias et sacrificium obtulistis mihi
in deserto quadraginta annis, domus Israël ?

WLC ²⁵ הַזְּבָחִ֨ים וּמִנְחָ֜ה הִֽגַּשְׁתֶּם־ לִ֧י בַמִּדְבָּ֛ר אַרְבָּעִ֥ים שָׁנָ֖ה בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ²⁶ But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.

VULC ²⁶ et portastis tabernaculum Moloch vestro,
et imaginem idolorum vestrorum, sidus dei vestri,
quæ fecistis vobis.

WLC ²⁶ וּנְשָׂאתֶ֗ם אֵ֚ת סִכּ֣וּת מַלְכְּכֶ֔ם וְאֵ֖ת כִּיּ֣וּן צַלְמֵיכֶ֑ם כּוֹכַב֙ אֱלֹ֣הֵיכֶ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר עֲשִׂיתֶ֖ם לָכֶֽם׃

KJV ²⁷ Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the LORD, whose name is The God of hosts.
