BCC ¹ La troisième armée du règne de Joakim, roi de Juda, Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, vint contre Jérusalem et l'assiégea.

BCC ² Le Seigneur livra entre ses mains Joakim, roi de Juda, et une partie des vases de la maison de Dieu ; et il les emporta au pays de Sennaar, dans la maison de son dieu, et il déposa les vases dans le trésor de son dieu.

KJV ² And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

VULC ² et tradidit Dominus in manu ejus Joakim, regem Juda, et partem vasorum domus Dei : et asportavit ea in terram Sennaar in domum dei sui, et vasa intulit in domum thesauri dei sui.

WLC ² וַיִּתֵּן֩ אֲדֹנָ֨י בְּיָד֜וֹ אֶת־ יְהוֹיָקִ֣ים מֶֽלֶךְ־ יְהוּדָ֗ה וּמִקְצָת֙ כְּלֵ֣י בֵית־ הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים וַיְבִיאֵ֥ם אֶֽרֶץ־ שִׁנְעָ֖ר בֵּ֣ית אֱלֹהָ֑יו וְאֶת־ הַכֵּלִ֣ים הֵבִ֔יא בֵּ֖ית אוֹצַ֥ר אֱלֹהָֽיו׃

BCC ³ Le roi dit à Asphenez, chef de ses eunuques, d'amener d'entre les enfants d'Israël, de la race royale ou de la noblesse,

KJV ³ And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king's seed, and of the princes;

VULC ³ Et ait rex Asphenez præposito eunuchorum ut introduceret de filiis Israël, et de semine regio et tyrannorum,

WLC ³ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ לְאַשְׁפְּנַ֖ז רַ֣ב סָרִיסָ֑יו לְהָבִ֞יא מִבְּנֵ֧י יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל וּמִזֶּ֥רַע הַמְּלוּכָ֖ה וּמִן־ הַֽפַּרְתְּמִֽים׃

BCC ⁴ des jeunes gens sans aucun défaut, beaux de figure, doués de toutes sortes de talents, instruits et intelligents, pleins de vigueur, pour qu'ils se tinssent dans le palais du roi et qu'on leur enseignât la littérature et la langue des Chaldéens.

KJV ⁴ Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

VULC ⁴ pueros in quibus nulla esset macula, decoros forma, et eruditos omni sapientia, cautos scientia, et doctos disciplina, et qui possent stare in palatio regis, ut doceret eos litteras et linguam Chaldæorum.

WLC ⁴ יְלָדִ֣ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֵֽין־ בָּהֶ֣ם כָּל־ וְטוֹבֵ֨י מַרְאֶ֜ה וּמַשְׂכִּילִ֣ים בְּכָל־ חָכְמָ֗ה וְיֹ֤דְעֵי דַ֙עַת֙ וּמְבִינֵ֣י מַדָּ֔ע וַאֲשֶׁר֙ כֹּ֣חַ בָּהֶ֔ם לַעֲמֹ֖ד בְּהֵיכַ֣ל הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וּֽלֲלַמְּדָ֥ם סֵ֖פֶר וּלְשׁ֥וֹן כַּשְׂדִּֽים׃

BCC ⁵ Le roi leur assigna pour chaque jour une portion des mets royaux et du vin dont il buvait, afin que, ayant été élevés pendant trois ans, ils se tinssent au bout de ce temps devant le roi.

KJV ⁵ And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.

VULC ⁵ Et constituit eis rex annonam per singulos dies de cibis suis, et de vino unde bibebat ipse, ut enutriti tribus annis, postea starent in conspectu regis.

WLC ⁵ וַיְמַן֩ לָהֶ֨ם הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ דְּבַר־ י֣וֹם בְּיוֹמ֗וֹ מִפַּת־ בַּ֤ג הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ וּמִיֵּ֣ין מִשְׁתָּ֔יו וּֽלְגַדְּלָ֖ם שָׁנִ֣ים שָׁל֑וֹשׁ וּמִ֨קְצָתָ֔ם יַֽעַמְד֖וּ לִפְנֵ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

BCC ⁶ Il y avait parmi eux, d'entre les enfants de Juda, Daniel, Ananias, Misaël et Azarias.

KJV ⁶ Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

WLC ⁶ וַיְהִ֥י בָהֶ֖ם מִבְּנֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֑ה דָּנִיֵּ֣אל חֲנַנְיָ֔ה מִֽישָׁאֵ֖ל וַעֲזַרְיָֽה׃

BCC ⁷ Le chef des eunuques leur donna des noms ; il appela Daniel Baltassar, Ananias Sidrac, Misaël Misac, et Azarias Abdénago.

KJV ⁷ Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.

VULC ⁷ Et imposuit eis præpositus eunuchorum nomina : Danieli, Baltassar ; Ananiæ, Sidrach ; Misaëli, Misach ; et Azariæ, Abdenago.

WLC ⁷ וַיָּ֧שֶׂם לָהֶ֛ם שַׂ֥ר הַסָּרִיסִ֖ים שֵׁמ֑וֹת וַיָּ֨שֶׂם לְדָֽנִיֵּ֜אל בֵּ֣לְטְשַׁאצַּ֗ר וְלַֽחֲנַנְיָה֙ שַׁדְרַ֔ךְ וּלְמִֽישָׁאֵ֣ל מֵישַׁ֔ךְ וְלַעֲזַרְיָ֖ה עֲבֵ֥ד נְגֽוֹ׃

BCC ⁸ Daniel résolut en son coeur de ne pas se souiller par les mets du roi et par le vin dont il buvait, et il demanda au chef des eunuques de ne pas l'obliger à se souiller.

KJV ⁸ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

VULC ⁸ Proposuit autem Daniel in corde suo ne pollueretur de mensa regis, neque de vino potus ejus : et rogavit eunuchorum præpositum ne contaminaretur.

WLC ⁸ וַיָּ֤שֶׂם דָּנִיֵּאל֙ עַל־ לִבּ֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹֽא־ יִתְגָּאַ֛ל בְּפַתְבַּ֥ג הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ וּבְיֵ֣ין מִשְׁתָּ֑יו וַיְבַקֵּשׁ֙ מִשַּׂ֣ר הַסָּרִיסִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר לֹ֥א יִתְגָּאָֽל׃

BCC ⁹ Et Dieu fit trouver à Daniel grâce et faveur auprès du chef des eunuques.

KJV ⁹ Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.

VULC ⁹ Dedit autem Deus Danieli gratiam et misericordiam in conspectu principis eunuchorum.

WLC ⁹ וַיִּתֵּ֤ן הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ אֶת־ דָּ֣נִיֵּ֔אל לְחֶ֖סֶד וּֽלְרַחֲמִ֑ים לִפְנֵ֖י שַׂ֥ר הַסָּרִיסִֽים׃

BCC ¹⁰ Le chef des eunuques dit à Daniel : « Je crains le roi, mon maître, qui a fixé ce que vous devez manger et boire ; car pourquoi verrait-il vos visages plus défaits que ceux des jeunes gens de votre âge ? Vous mettriez en danger ma tête auprès du roi. »

KJV ¹⁰ And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.

VULC ¹⁰ Et ait princeps eunuchorum ad Danielem : Timeo ego dominum meum regem, qui constituit vobis cibum et potum : qui si viderit vultus vestros macilentiores præ ceteris adolescentibus coævis vestris, condemnabitis caput meum regi.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיֹּ֜אמֶר שַׂ֤ר הַסָּרִיסִים֙ לְדָ֣נִיֵּ֔אל יָרֵ֤א אֲנִי֙ אֶת־ אֲדֹנִ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אֲשֶׁ֣ר מִנָּ֔ה אֶת־ מַאֲכַלְכֶ֖ם וְאֶת־ מִשְׁתֵּיכֶ֑ם אֲשֶׁ֡ר לָמָּה֩ יִרְאֶ֨ה אֶת־ פְּנֵיכֶ֜ם זֹֽעֲפִ֗ים מִן־ הַיְלָדִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר כְּגִֽילְכֶ֔ם וְחִיַּבְתֶּ֥ם אֶת־ רֹאשִׁ֖י לַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

BCC ¹¹ Alors Daniel dit au maître d'hôtel, que le chef des eunuques avait établi sur Daniel, Ananias, Misaél et Azarias

KJV ¹¹ Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,

VULC ¹¹ Et dixit Daniel ad Malasar, quem constituerat princeps eunuchorum super Danielem, Ananiam, Misaëlem, et Azariam :

WLC ¹¹ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר דָּנִיֵּ֖אל אֶל־ הַמֶּלְצַ֑ר אֲשֶׁ֤ר מִנָּה֙ שַׂ֣ר הַסָּֽרִיסִ֔ים עַל־ דָּנִיֵּ֣אל חֲנַנְיָ֔ה מִֽישָׁאֵ֖ל וַעֲזַרְיָֽה׃

BCC ¹² « Fais, je te prie, un essai avec tes serviteurs pendant dix jours, et qu'on nous donne des légumes à manger et de l'eau à boire.

KJV ¹² Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.

VULC ¹² Tenta nos, obsecro, servos tuos, diebus decem, et dentur nobis legumina ad vescendum, et aqua ad bibendum :

WLC ¹² נַס־ נָ֥א אֶת־ עֲבָדֶ֖יךָ יָמִ֣ים עֲשָׂרָ֑ה וְיִתְּנוּ־ לָ֜נוּ מִן־ הַזֵּרֹעִ֛ים וְנֹאכְלָ֖ה וּמַ֥יִם וְנִשְׁתֶּֽה׃

BCC ¹³ Après cela, tu regarderas nos visages et le visage des jeunes gens qui mangent les mets du roi, et, selon que tu auras vu, tu agiras avec tes serviteurs. »

KJV ¹³ Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.

VULC ¹³ et contemplare vultus nostros, et vultus puerorum, qui vescuntur cibo regio : et sicut videris, facies cum servis tuis.

WLC ¹³ וְיֵרָא֤וּ לְפָנֶ֙יךָ֙ מַרְאֵ֔ינוּ וּמַרְאֵה֙ הַיְלָדִ֔ים הָאֹ֣כְלִ֔ים אֵ֖ת פַּתְבַּ֣ג הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וְכַאֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּרְאֵ֔ה עֲשֵׂ֖ה עִם־ עֲבָדֶֽיךָ׃

BCC ¹⁴ Il consentit à leur demande et les éprouva pendant dix jours.

KJV ¹⁴ So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.

VULC ¹⁴ Qui, audito sermone hujuscemodi, tentavit eos diebus decem.

WLC ¹⁴ וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע לָהֶ֖ם לַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֑ה וַיְנַסֵּ֖ם יָמִ֥ים עֲשָׂרָֽה׃

BCC ¹⁵ Au bout de dix jours, ils se trouvèrent avoir meilleur visage et plus d'embonpoint que tous les jeunes gens qui mangeaient les mets du roi.

KJV ¹⁵ And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat.

VULC ¹⁵ Post dies autem decem, apparuerunt vultus eorum meliores, et corpulentiores præ omnibus pueris, qui vescebantur cibo regio.

WLC ¹⁵ וּמִקְצָת֙ יָמִ֣ים עֲשָׂרָ֔ה נִרְאָ֤ה מַרְאֵיהֶם֙ ט֔וֹב וּבְרִיאֵ֖י בָּשָׂ֑ר מִן־ כָּל־ הַיְלָדִ֔ים הָאֹ֣כְלִ֔ים אֵ֖ת פַּתְבַּ֥ג הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

BCC ¹⁶ Et le maître d'hôtel emportait les mets et le vin qu'ils devaient boire, et leur donnait des légumes.

KJV ¹⁶ Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.

VULC ¹⁶ Porro Malasar tollebat cibaria, et vinum potus eorum : dabatque eis legumina.

WLC ¹⁶ וַיְהִ֣י הַמֶּלְצַ֗ר נֹשֵׂא֙ אֶת־ פַּתְבָּגָ֔ם וְיֵ֖ין מִשְׁתֵּיהֶ֑ם וְנֹתֵ֥ן לָהֶ֖ם זֵרְעֹנִֽים׃

BCC ¹⁷ à ces jeunes gens, à tous les quatre, Dieu donna du savoir et de l'habileté dans toute la littérature et en toute sagesse, et Daniel avait l'intelligence de toutes sortes de visions et de songes.

KJV ¹⁷ As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

VULC ¹⁷ Pueris autem his dedit Deus scientiam et disciplinam, in omni libro et sapientia : Danieli autem intelligentiam omnium visionum et somniorum.

WLC ¹⁷ וְהַיְלָדִ֤ים הָאֵ֙לֶּה֙ אַרְבַּעְתָּ֔ם נָתַ֨ן לָהֶ֧ם הָֽאֱלֹהִ֛ים מַדָּ֥ע וְהַשְׂכֵּ֖ל בְּכָל־ סֵ֣פֶר וְחָכְמָ֑ה וְדָנִיֵּ֣אל הֵבִ֔ין בְּכָל־ חָז֖וֹן וַחֲלֹמֽוֹת׃

BCC ¹⁸ Au bout du temps fixé par le roi pour les amener, le chef des eunuques les amena devant Nabuchodonosor.

KJV ¹⁸ Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.

VULC ¹⁸ Completis itaque diebus, post quos dixerat rex ut introducerentur, introduxit eos præpositus eunuchorum in conspectu Nabuchodonosor.

WLC ¹⁸ וּלְמִקְצָת֙ הַיָּמִ֔ים אֲשֶׁר־ אָמַ֥ר הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ לַהֲבִיאָ֑ם וַיְבִיאֵם֙ שַׂ֣ר הַסָּרִיסִ֔ים לִפְנֵ֖י נְבֻכַדְנֶצַּֽר׃

BCC ¹⁹ Le roi s'entretint avec eux, et il ne se trouva personne parmi eux tous comme Daniel, Ananias, Misaél et Azarias ; ils furent donc admis au service du roi.

KJV ¹⁹ And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.

VULC ¹⁹ Cumque eis locutus fuisset rex, non sunt inventi tales de universis, ut Daniel, Ananias, Misaël, et Azarias : et steterunt in conspectu regis.

WLC ¹⁹ וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר אִתָּם֮ הַמֶּלֶךְ֒ וְלֹ֤א נִמְצָא֙ מִכֻּלָּ֔ם כְּדָנִיֵּ֣אל חֲנַנְיָ֔ה מִֽישָׁאֵ֖ל וַעֲזַרְיָ֑ה וַיַּֽעַמְד֖וּ לִפְנֵ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

BCC ²⁰ Sur tous les sujets qui réclamaient de la sagesse et de l'intelligence, et sur lesquels le roi les interrogeait, il les trouvait dix fois supérieurs à tous les lettrés et magiciens qui étaient en tout son royaume.

KJV ²⁰ And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

VULC ²⁰ Et omne verbum sapientiæ et intellectus, quod sciscitatus est ab eis rex, invenit in eis decuplum super cunctos ariolos et magos qui erant in universo regno ejus.

WLC ²⁰ וְכֹ֗ל דְּבַר֙ חָכְמַ֣ת בִּינָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־ בִּקֵּ֥שׁ מֵהֶ֖ם הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַֽיִּמְצָאֵ֞ם עֶ֣שֶׂר יָד֗וֹת עַ֤ל כָּל־ הַֽחַרְטֻמִּים֙ הָֽאַשָּׁפִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּכָל־ מַלְכוּתֽוֹ׃

BCC ²¹ Daniel fut ainsi jusqu'à la première année du roi Cyrus.

KJV ²¹ And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.

VULC ²¹ Fuit autem Daniel usque ad annum primum Cyri regis.

WLC ²¹ וַֽיְהִי֙ דָּֽנִיֵּ֔אל עַד־ שְׁנַ֥ת אַחַ֖ת לְכ֥וֹרֶשׁ הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
