WLC ¹ וּבִשְׁנַ֣ת שְׁתַּ֗יִם לְמַלְכוּת֙ נְבֻֽכַדְנֶצַּ֔ר חָלַ֥ם נְבֻֽכַדְנֶצַּ֖ר חֲלֹמ֑וֹת וַתִּתְפָּ֣עֶם רוּח֔וֹ וּשְׁנָת֖וֹ נִהְיְתָ֥ה עָלָֽיו׃

BCC ² Le roi fit appeler les lettrés, les magiciens, les enchanteurs et les Chaldéens pour lui expliquer ses songes ; ils vinrent et ils se tinrent devant le roi.

KJV ² Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.

WLC ² וַיֹּ֣אמֶר הַ֠מֶּלֶךְ לִקְרֹ֨א לַֽחַרְטֻמִּ֜ים וְלָֽאַשָּׁפִ֗ים וְלַֽמְכַשְּׁפִים֙ וְלַכַּשְׂדִּ֔ים לְהַגִּ֥יד לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ חֲלֹמֹתָ֑יו וַיָּבֹ֕אוּ וַיַּֽעַמְד֖וּ לִפְנֵ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

BCC ³ Le roi leur dit : « J'ai fait un songe, et mon esprit est agité, cherchant à connaître ce songe. »

KJV ³ And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream.

WLC ³ וַיֹּ֧אמֶר לָהֶ֛ם הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ חֲל֣וֹם חָלָ֑מְתִּי וַתִּפָּ֣עֶם רוּחִ֔י לָדַ֖עַת אֶֽת־ הַחֲלֽוֹם׃

BCC ⁴ Les Chaldéens répondirent au roi en langue araméenne : "Ô roi, vis éternellement ! Dis le songe à tes serviteurs, et nous en ferons connaître la signification."

KJV ⁴ Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.

WLC ⁴ וַֽיְדַבְּר֧וּ הַכַּשְׂדִּ֛ים לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֲרָמִ֑ית מַלְכָּא֙ לְעָלְמִ֣ין חֱיִ֔י אֱמַ֥ר חֶלְמָ֛א וּפִשְׁרָ֥א נְחַוֵּֽא׃

BCC ⁵ Le roi répondît aux Chaldéens, en disant : « C'est chose arrêtée par moi. Si vous ne me faites savoir le songe et sa signification, vous serez coupés en morceaux et vos maisons seront réduites en cloaques.

KJV ⁵ The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.

WLC ⁵ עָנֵ֤ה מַלְכָּא֙ וְאָמַ֣ר מִלְּתָ֖א מִנִּ֣י אַזְדָּ֑א הֵ֣ן לָ֤א תְהֽוֹדְעוּנַּ֙נִי֙ חֶלְמָ֣א וּפִשְׁרֵ֔הּ הַדָּמִין֙ תִּתְעַבְד֔וּן וּבָתֵּיכ֖וֹן נְוָלִ֥י יִתְּשָׂמֽוּן׃

BCC ⁶ Mais si vous me faîtes connaître le songe et sa signification, vous recevrez de moi des dons et des présents, et de grands honneurs ;ainsi faites-moi connaître le songe et sa signification. »

KJV ⁶ But if ye shew the dream, and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour: therefore shew me the dream, and the interpretation thereof.

WLC ⁶ וְהֵ֨ן חֶלְמָ֤א וּפִשְׁרֵהּ֙ תְּֽהַחֲוֺ֔ן מַתְּנָ֤ן וּנְבִזְבָּה֙ וִיקָ֣ר שַׂגִּ֔יא תְּקַבְּל֖וּן מִן־ קֳדָמָ֑י לָהֵ֕ן חֶלְמָ֥א וּפִשְׁרֵ֖הּ הַחֲוֺֽנִי׃

BCC ⁷ Ils répondirent pour la deuxième fois en disant : « Que le roi dise le songe à ses serviteurs, et nous en ferons connaître la signification. »

KJV ⁷ They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation of it.

WLC ⁷ עֲנ֥וֹ תִנְיָנ֖וּת וְאָמְרִ֑ין מַלְכָּ֕א חֶלְמָ֛א יֵאמַ֥ר לְעַבְד֖וֹהִי וּפִשְׁרָ֥ה נְהַחֲוֵֽה׃

BCC ⁸ Le roi répondît et dit : « En vérité, je sais que vous cherchez à gagner du temps, parce que vous voyez que c'est chose arrêtée par moi.

KJV ⁸ The king answered and said, I know of certainty that ye would gain the time, because ye see the thing is gone from me.

WLC ⁸ עָנֵ֤ה מַלְכָּא֙ וְאָמַ֔ר מִן־ יַצִּיב֙ יָדַ֣ע אֲנָ֔ה דִּ֥י עִדָּנָ֖א אַנְתּ֣וּן זָבְנִ֑ין כָּל־ קֳבֵל֙ דִּ֣י חֲזֵית֔וֹן דִּ֥י אַזְדָּ֖א מִנִּ֥י מִלְּתָֽא׃

BCC ⁹ Puisque vous ne me faîtes pas savoir le songe, c'est que vous n'avez qu'une pensée, celle de concerter un discours mensonger et trompeur, pour le tenir devant moi, en attendant que les temps soient changés ; ainsi, dites-moi le songe et je saurai que vous pourrez m'en faire connaître la véritable signification. »

KJV ⁹ But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew me the interpretation thereof.

WLC ⁹ דִּ֣י הֵן־ חֶלְמָא֩ לָ֨א תְהֽוֹדְעֻנַּ֜נִי חֲדָה־ הִ֣יא דָֽתְכ֗וֹן וּמִלָּ֨ה כִדְבָ֤ה וּשְׁחִיתָה֙ לְמֵאמַ֣ר קָֽדָמַ֔י עַ֛ד דִּ֥י עִדָּנָ֖א יִשְׁתַּנֵּ֑א לָהֵ֗ן חֶלְמָא֙ אֱמַ֣רוּ לִ֔י וְֽאִנְדַּ֕ע דִּ֥י פִשְׁרֵ֖הּ תְּהַחֲוֻנַּֽנִי׃

BCC ¹⁰ Les Chaldéens répondirent devant le roi en disant : « Il n'y a pas d'homme sur la terre qui puisse faire connaître ce que je lui demande. Aussi jamais roi, si grand et si puissant qu'il ait été, n'a demandé pareille chose d'aucun lettré, astrologue ou Chaldéen.

KJV ¹⁰ The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king's matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.

WLC ¹⁰ עֲנ֨וֹ קֳדָם־ מַלְכָּא֙ וְאָ֣מְרִ֔ין לָֽא־ אִיתַ֤י אֲנָשׁ֙ עַל־ יַבֶּשְׁתָּ֔א דִּ֚י מִלַּ֣ת מַלְכָּ֔א יוּכַ֖ל לְהַחֲוָיָ֑ה כָּל־ קֳבֵ֗ל דִּ֚י כָּל־ מֶ֙לֶךְ֙ רַ֣ב וְשַׁלִּ֔יט מִלָּ֤ה כִדְנָה֙ לָ֣א שְׁאֵ֔ל לְכָל־ חַרְטֹּ֖ם וְאָשַׁ֥ף וְכַשְׂדָּֽי׃

BCC ¹¹ La chose que le roi demande est difficile, et il n'y a personne qui puisse la faire connaître devant le roi, hormis les dieux dont la demeure n'est pas parmi les mortels. »

KJV ¹¹ And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.

WLC ¹¹ וּמִלְּתָ֨א דִֽי־ מַלְכָּ֤ה שָׁאֵל֙ יַקִּירָ֔ה וְאָחֳרָן֙ לָ֣א אִיתַ֔י דִּ֥י יְחַוִּנַּ֖הּ קֳדָ֣ם מַלְכָּ֑א לָהֵ֣ן אֱלָהִ֔ין דִּ֚י מְדָ֣רְה֔וֹן עִם־ בִּשְׂרָ֖א לָ֥א אִיתֽוֹהִי׃

BCC ¹² Là-dessus le roi se mit en colère et en grande fureur, et il donna l'ordre de mettre à mort tous les sages de BabyIone.

KJV ¹² For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.

WLC ¹² כָּל־ קֳבֵ֣ל דְּנָ֔ה מַלְכָּ֕א בְּנַ֖ס וּקְצַ֣ף שַׂגִּ֑יא וַאֲמַר֙ לְה֣וֹבָדָ֔ה לְכֹ֖ל חַכִּימֵ֥י בָבֶֽל׃

BCC ¹³ La sentence ayant été publiée, les sages étaient mis à mort, et on cherchait Daniel et ses compagnons pour les tuer.

KJV ¹³ And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.

WLC ¹³ וְדָתָ֣א נֶפְקַ֔ת וְחַכִּֽימַיָּ֖א מִֽתְקַטְּלִ֑ין וּבְע֛וֹ דָּנִיֵּ֥אל וְחַבְר֖וֹהִי לְהִתְקְטָלָֽה׃

BCC ¹⁴ Alors Daniel fît une réponse prudente et sensée à Arioch, chef des gardes du roi, qui était sorti pour mettre à mort les sages de Babylone.

KJV ¹⁴ Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:

WLC ¹⁴ בֵּאדַ֣יִן דָּנִיֵּ֗אל הֲתִיב֙ עֵטָ֣א וּטְעֵ֔ם לְאַרְי֕וֹךְ רַב־ טַבָּחַיָּ֖א דִּ֣י מַלְכָּ֑א דִּ֚י נְפַ֣ק לְקַטָּלָ֔ה לְחַכִּימֵ֖י בָּבֶֽל׃

BCC ¹⁵ Il prît la parole et dit à Arioch, commandant du roi : « Pourquoi cette sentence sévère de la part du roi ? « Et Arioch exposa la chose à Daniel.

KJV ¹⁵ He answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.

WLC ¹⁵ עָנֵ֣ה וְאָמַ֗ר לְאַרְיוֹךְ֙ שַׁלִּיטָ֣א דִֽי־ מַלְכָּ֔א עַל־ מָ֥ה דָתָ֛א מְהַחְצְפָ֖ה מִן־ קֳדָ֣ם מַלְכָּ֑א אֱדַ֣יִן מִלְּתָ֔א הוֹדַ֥ע אַרְי֖וֹךְ לְדָנִיֵּֽאל׃

BCC ¹⁶ Alors Daniel entra dans le palais et pria le roi de lui accorder un délai afin de faire connaître au roi la signification.

KJV ¹⁶ Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation.

BCC ¹⁷ Aussitôt Daniel alla dans sa maison et informa de l'affaire Armorias, Misaël et Azarias, ses compagnons,

KJV ¹⁷ Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:

WLC ¹⁷ אֱדַ֥יִן דָּֽנִיֵּ֖אל לְבַיְתֵ֣הּ אֲזַ֑ל וְ֠לַחֲנַנְיָה מִֽישָׁאֵ֧ל וַעֲזַרְיָ֛ה חַבְר֖וֹהִי מִלְּתָ֥א הוֹדַֽע׃

BCC ¹⁸ les engageant à implorer la miséricorde du Dieu du ciel sur ce mystère, pour qu'on ne fît point périr Daniel et ses compagnons avec le reste des sages de Babylone.

KJV ¹⁸ That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

WLC ¹⁸ וְרַחֲמִ֗ין לְמִבְעֵא֙ מִן־ קֳדָם֙ אֱלָ֣הּ שְׁמַיָּ֔א עַל־ רָזָ֖ה דְּנָ֑ה דִּ֣י לָ֤א יְהֹֽבְדוּן֙ דָּנִיֵּ֣אל וְחַבְר֔וֹהִי עִם־ שְׁאָ֖ר חַכִּימֵ֥י בָבֶֽל׃

BCC ¹⁹ Alors le secret fut révélé à Daniel dans une vision pendant la nuit, et Daniel bénit le Dieu du ciel.

KJV ¹⁹ Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

WLC ¹⁹ אֱדַ֗יִן לְדָנִיֵּ֛אל בְּחֶזְוָ֥א דִֽי־ לֵילְיָ֖א רָזָ֣ה גֲלִ֑י אֱדַ֙יִן֙ דָּֽנִיֵּ֔אל בָּרִ֖ךְ לֶאֱלָ֥הּ שְׁמַיָּֽא׃

BCC ²⁰ Daniel prit la parole et dit : « Béni soit le nom de Dieu, d'éternité en éternité, car à lui appartiennent la sagesse et la force.

KJV ²⁰ Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:

WLC ²⁰ עָנֵ֤ה דָֽנִיֵּאל֙ וְאָמַ֔ר לֶהֱוֵ֨א שְׁמֵ֤הּ דִּֽי־ אֱלָהָא֙ מְבָרַ֔ךְ מִן־ עָלְמָ֖א וְעַ֣ד־ עָלְמָ֑א דִּ֧י חָכְמְתָ֛א וּגְבוּרְתָ֖א דִּ֥י לֵֽהּ־ הִֽיא׃

BCC ²¹ C'est lui qui change les moments et les temps, qui renverse les rois et qui élève les rois, qui donne la sagesse aux sages et le savoir aux intelligents.

KJV ²¹ And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

WLC ²¹ וְ֠הוּא מְהַשְׁנֵ֤א עִדָּנַיָּא֙ וְזִמְנַיָּ֔א מְהַעְדֵּ֥ה מַלְכִ֖ין וּמְהָקֵ֣ים מַלְכִ֑ין יָהֵ֤ב חָכְמְתָא֙ לְחַכִּימִ֔ין וּמַנְדְּעָ֖א לְיָדְעֵ֥י בִינָֽה׃

BCC ²² C'est lui qui révèle les choses profondes et cachées, qui sait ce qui est dans les ténèbres, et la lumière demeure avec lui.

KJV ²² He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.

WLC ²² ה֛וּא גָּלֵ֥א עַמִּיקָתָ֖א וּמְסַתְּרָתָ֑א יָדַע֙ מָ֣ה בַחֲשׁוֹכָ֔א עִמֵּ֥הּ שְׁרֵֽא׃

BCC ²³ C'est vous, Dieu de mes pères, que je célèbre et que je loue de ce que vous m'avez donné la sagesse et la force, et de ce que maintenant vous m'avez fait savoir ce que nous vous avons demandé, en nous faisant savoir l'affaire du roi. »

KJV ²³ I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king's matter.

WLC ²³ לָ֣ךְ ׀ אֱלָ֣הּ אֲבָהָתִ֗י מְהוֹדֵ֤א וּמְשַׁבַּח֙ אֲנָ֔ה דִּ֧י חָכְמְתָ֛א וּגְבוּרְתָ֖א יְהַ֣בְתְּ לִ֑י וּכְעַ֤ן הֽוֹדַעְתַּ֙נִי֙ דִּֽי־ בְעֵ֣ינָא מִנָּ֔ךְ דִּֽי־ מִלַּ֥ת מַלְכָּ֖א הוֹדַעְתֶּֽנָא׃

BCC ²⁴ C'est pourquoi Daniel se rendit auprès d'Arioch, que le roi avait chargé de mettre à mort les sages de Babylone ; il alla et lui parla ainsi : « Ne fais pas périr les sages de Babylone ; introduis-moi devant le roi, et je ferai connaître au roi la signification. »

KJV ²⁴ Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the interpretation.

WLC ²⁴ כָּל־ קֳבֵ֣ל דְּנָ֗ה דָּֽנִיֵּאל֙ עַ֣ל עַל־ אַרְי֔וֹךְ דִּ֚י מַנִּ֣י מַלְכָּ֔א לְהוֹבָדָ֖ה לְחַכִּימֵ֣י בָבֶ֑ל אֲזַ֣ל ׀ וְכֵ֣ן אֲמַר־ לֵ֗הּ לְחַכִּימֵ֤י בָבֶל֙ אַל־ תְּהוֹבֵ֔ד הַעֵ֙לְנִי֙ קֳדָ֣ם מַלְכָּ֔א וּפִשְׁרָ֖א לְמַלְכָּ֥א אֲחַוֵּֽא׃

BCC ²⁵ Arioch s'empressa de faire entrer Daniel devant le roi et lui parla ainsi : « J'ai trouvé parmi les captifs de Juda un homme qui fera savoir au roi la signification. »

KJV ²⁵ Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation.

WLC ²⁵ אֱדַ֤יִן אַרְיוֹךְ֙ בְּהִתְבְּהָלָ֔ה הַנְעֵ֥ל לְדָנִיֵּ֖אל קֳדָ֣ם מַלְכָּ֑א וְכֵ֣ן אֲמַר־ לֵ֗הּ דִּֽי־ הַשְׁכַּ֤חַת גְּבַר֙ מִן־ בְּנֵ֤י גָֽלוּתָא֙ דִּ֣י יְה֔וּד דִּ֥י פִשְׁרָ֖א לְמַלְכָּ֥א יְהוֹדַֽע׃

BCC ²⁶ Le roi prit la parole et dit à Daniel, qui s'appelait Baltassar : « es-tu capable de me faire savoir le songe que j'ai eu et sa signification ? »

KJV ²⁶ The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?

WLC ²⁶ עָנֵ֤ה מַלְכָּא֙ וְאָמַ֣ר לְדָנִיֵּ֔אל דִּ֥י שְׁמֵ֖הּ בֵּלְטְשַׁאצַּ֑ר כָּהֵ֗ל לְהוֹדָעֻתַ֛נִי חֶלְמָ֥א דִֽי־ חֲזֵ֖ית וּפִשְׁרֵֽהּ׃

BCC ²⁷ Daniel répondît en présence du roi et dit : « le secret que le roi demande, ni sages, ni magiciens, ni lettrés, ni astrologues ne sont capables de le faire connaître au roi.

KJV ²⁷ Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king;

WLC ²⁷ עָנֵ֧ה דָנִיֵּ֛אל קֳדָ֥ם מַלְכָּ֖א וְאָמַ֑ר רָזָה֙ דִּֽי־ מַלְכָּ֣א שָׁאֵ֔ל לָ֧א חַכִּימִ֣ין אָֽשְׁפִ֗ין חַרְטֻמִּין֙ גָּזְרִ֔ין יָכְלִ֖ין לְהַֽחֲוָיָ֥ה לְמַלְכָּֽא׃

BCC ²⁸ Mais il y a un Dieu dans le ciel qui révèle les secrets et qui a fait savoir au roi Nabuchodonosor ce qui doit arriver à la fin des jours. Ton songe et tes visions de ton esprit que tu as eues sur ta couche, les voici :

KJV ²⁸ But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;

WLC ²⁸ בְּרַ֡ם אִיתַ֞י אֱלָ֤הּ בִּשְׁמַיָּא֙ גָּלֵ֣א רָזִ֔ין וְהוֹדַ֗ע לְמַלְכָּא֙ נְבֽוּכַדְנֶצַּ֔ר מָ֛ה דִּ֥י לֶהֱוֵ֖א בְּאַחֲרִ֣ית יוֹמַיָּ֑א חֶלְמָ֨ךְ וְחֶזְוֵ֥י רֵאשָׁ֛ךְ עַֽל־ מִשְׁכְּבָ֖ךְ דְּנָ֥ה הֽוּא׃

BCC ²⁹ Toi, ô roi, tes pensées s'élevaient en ton esprit sur ta couche au sujet de ce qui arriverait après ce temps-ci, et celui qui révèle les secrets t'a fait connaître ce qui doit arriver.

KJV ²⁹ As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.

WLC ²⁹ אַ֣נְתְּה מַלְכָּ֗א רַעְיוֹנָךְ֙ עַל־ מִשְׁכְּבָ֣ךְ סְלִ֔קוּ מָ֛ה דִּ֥י לֶהֱוֵ֖א אַחֲרֵ֣י דְנָ֑ה וְגָלֵ֧א רָזַיָּ֛א הוֹדְעָ֖ךְ מָה־ דִ֥י לֶהֱוֵֽא׃

BCC ³⁰ Et moi, ce n'est pas par une sagesse qui serait en moi, supérieure à celle de tous les vivants, que ce secret m'a été révélé, mais c'est afin qu'on en fasse savoir la signification au roi, et que tu connaisses les pensées de ton coeur.

KJV ³⁰ But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.

WLC ³⁰ וַאֲנָ֗ה לָ֤א בְחָכְמָה֙ דִּֽי־ אִיתַ֥י בִּי֙ מִן־ כָּל־ חַיַּיָּ֔א רָזָ֥א דְנָ֖ה גֱּלִ֣י לִ֑י לָהֵ֗ן עַל־ דִּבְרַת֙ דִּ֤י פִשְׁרָא֙ לְמַלְכָּ֣א יְהוֹדְע֔וּן וְרַעְיוֹנֵ֥י לִבְבָ֖ךְ תִּנְדַּֽע׃

BCC ³¹ Toi, ô roi, tu regardais, et voici une grande statue. Cette statue était immense et sa splendeur extraordinaire ; elle se dressait devant toi, et son aspect était terrible.

KJV ³¹ Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.

KJV ³⁴ Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.

BCC ³⁵ Alors furent brisés eu même temps le fer, l'argile, l'airain, l'argent et l'or, et ils devinrent comme la balle qui s'élève de l'aire en été, et le vent les emporta sans qu'on en trouve plus aucune trace ; et la pierre qui avait frappé la statue devint une grande montagne et remplit toute la terre.

KJV ³⁵ Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

BCC ³⁶ Voilà le songe ; sa signification, nous allons la dire devant le roi.

KJV ³⁶ This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.

BCC ³⁹ Après toi, il s'élèvera un autre royaume, moindre que toi, puis un troisième royaume d'airain, qui dominera sur toute la terre.

KJV ³⁹ And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.

WLC ³⁹ וּבָתְרָ֗ךְ תְּק֛וּם מַלְכ֥וּ אָחֳרִ֖י אֲרַ֣עא מִנָּ֑ךְ וּמַלְכ֨וּ אָחֳרִי֙ דִּ֣י נְחָשָׁ֔א דִּ֥י תִשְׁלַ֖ט בְּכָל־ אַרְעָֽא׃

BCC ⁴⁰ Un quatrième royaume sera fort comme le fer ; de même que le fer écrase et brise tout, et comme le fer qui met en pièces, il écrasera et mettra en pièces tous ceux là.

KJV ⁴⁰ And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.

BCC ⁴¹ Si tu as vu les pieds et les orteils en partie d'argile de potier et en partie de fer, c'est que ce sera un royaume divisé ; il y aura en lui de la solidité du fer, selon que tu as vu du fer mêlé à l'argile.

KJV ⁴¹ And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.

BCC ⁴² Mais comme les orteils des pieds étaient en partie de fer et en partie d'argile, ce royaume sera en partie fort, et il sera en partie fragile.

KJV ⁴² And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

WLC ⁴² וְאֶצְבְּעָת֙ רַגְלַיָּ֔א פַּרְזֶ֖ל חֲסַ֑ף מִן־ קְצָ֤ת מַלְכוּתָא֙ תֶּהֱוֵ֣ה תַקִּיפָ֔ה וּמִנַּ֖הּ תֶּהֱוֵ֥ה תְבִירָֽה׃

BCC ⁴³ Si tu as vu le fer mêlé à l'argile, c'est qu'ils seront mêlés de semence d'homme ; mais ils ne tiendront pas l'un à l'autre, de même que le fer ne peut s'allier avec l'argile.

KJV ⁴³ And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

WLC ⁴³ חֲזַ֗יְתָ פַּרְזְלָא֙ מְעָרַב֙ בַּחֲסַ֣ף טִינָ֔א מִתְעָרְבִ֤ין לֶהֱוֺן֙ בִּזְרַ֣ע אֲנָשָׁ֔א וְלָֽא־ לֶהֱוֺ֥ן דָּבְקִ֖ין דְּנָ֣ה עִם־ דְּנָ֑ה הֵֽא־ כְדִ֣י פַרְזְלָ֔א לָ֥א מִתְעָרַ֖ב עִם־ חַסְפָּֽא׃

BCC ⁴⁴ Dans le temps de ces rois, le Dieu du ciel suscitera un royaume qui ne sera jamais détruit, et dont la domination ne sera point abandonnée à un autre peuple ; il brisera et anéantira tous ces royaumes-là, et lui-même subsistera à jamais,

KJV ⁴⁴ And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

BCC ⁴⁵ selon que tu as vu qu'une pierre a été détachée de la montagne, non par une main, et qu'elle a brisé le fer, l'airain, l'argile, l'argent et l'or. Le grand Dieu a fait connaître au roi ce qui arrivera dans la suite ; le songe est véritable et sa signification certaine. »

KJV ⁴⁵ Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

BCC ⁴⁶ Alors le roi Nabuchodonosor tomba sur sa face et se prosterna devant Daniel, et il ordonna qu'on lui offrit des oblations et des parfums.

KJV ⁴⁶ Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him.

WLC ⁴⁶ בֵּ֠אדַיִן מַלְכָּ֤א נְבֽוּכַדְנֶצַּר֙ נְפַ֣ל עַל־ אַנְפּ֔וֹהִי וּלְדָנִיֵּ֖אל סְגִ֑ד וּמִנְחָה֙ וְנִ֣יחֹחִ֔ין אֲמַ֖ר לְנַסָּ֥כָה לֵֽהּ׃

BCC ⁴⁷ Le roi parla ensuite à Daniel et dit : « vraiment votre Dieu est le Dieu des dieux, le seigneur des rois et le révélateur des secrets, puisque tu as pu révéler ce secret. »

KJV ⁴⁷ The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.

WLC ⁴⁷ עָנֵה֩ מַלְכָּ֨א לְדָנִיֵּ֜אל וְאָמַ֗ר מִן־ קְשֹׁט֙ דִּ֣י אֱלָהֲכ֗וֹן ה֣וּא אֱלָ֧הּ אֱלָהִ֛ין וּמָרֵ֥א מַלְכִ֖ין וְגָלֵ֣ה רָזִ֑ין דִּ֣י יְכֵ֔לְתָּ לְמִגְלֵ֖א רָזָ֥ה דְנָֽה׃

BCC ⁴⁸ Alors le roi éleva Daniel et lui fit de nombreux et riches présents ; il l'établit gouverneur sur toute la province de Babylone et chef suprême sur tous les sages de Babylone.

KJV ⁴⁸ Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.

WLC ⁴⁸ אֱדַ֨יִן מַלְכָּ֜א לְדָנִיֵּ֣אל רַבִּ֗י וּמַתְּנָ֨ן רַבְרְבָ֤ן שַׂגִּיאָן֙ יְהַב־ לֵ֔הּ וְהַ֨שְׁלְטֵ֔הּ עַ֖ל כָּל־ מְדִינַ֣ת בָּבֶ֑ל וְרַב־ סִגְנִ֔ין עַ֖ל כָּל־ חַכִּימֵ֥י בָבֶֽל׃

BCC ⁴⁹ À la prière de Daniel, le roi commit aux affaires de la province de Babylone Sidrac, Misac et Abdénago ; et Daniel demeura à la cour.

KJV ⁴⁹ Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.

WLC ⁴⁹ וְדָנִיֵּאל֙ בְּעָ֣א מִן־ מַלְכָּ֔א וּמַנִּ֗י עַ֤ל עֲבִֽידְתָּא֙ דִּ֚י מְדִינַ֣ת בָּבֶ֔ל לְשַׁדְרַ֥ךְ מֵישַׁ֖ךְ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֑וֹ וְדָנִיֵּ֖אל בִּתְרַ֥ע מַלְכָּֽא׃
