KJV ² (There are eleven days' journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir unto Kadeshbarnea.)

KJV ³ And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spake unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the LORD had given him in commandment unto them;

KJV ⁴ After he had slain Sihon the king of the Amorites, which dwelt in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, which dwelt at Astaroth in Edrei:

KJV ⁵ On this side Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to declare this law, saying,

KJV ⁶ The LORD our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount:

NEG ⁶ L'Eternel, notre Dieu, nous a parlé à Horeb, en disant: Vous avez assez demeuré dans cette montagne.

KJV ⁷ Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.

NEG ⁷ Tournez-vous, et partez; allez à la montagne des Amoréens et dans tout le voisinage, dans la plaine, sur la montagne, dans la vallée, dans le midi, sur la côte de la mer, au pays des Cananéens et au Liban, jusqu'au grand fleuve, au fleuve d'Euphrate.

WLC ⁷ פְּנ֣וּ ׀ וּסְע֣וּ לָכֶ֗ם וּבֹ֨אוּ הַ֥ר הָֽאֱמֹרִי֮ וְאֶל־ כָּל־ שְׁכֵנָיו֒ בָּעֲרָבָ֥ה בָהָ֛ר וּבַשְּׁפֵלָ֥ה וּבַנֶּ֖גֶב וּבְח֣וֹף הַיָּ֑ם אֶ֤רֶץ הַֽכְּנַעֲנִי֙ וְהַלְּבָנ֔וֹן עַד־ הַנָּהָ֥ר הַגָּדֹ֖ל נְהַר־ פְּרָֽת׃

KJV ⁸ Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.

NEG ⁸ Voyez, j'ai mis le pays devant vous; allez, et prenez possession du pays que l'Eternel a juré de donner à vos pères, Abraham, Isaac et Jacob, et à leur postérité après eux.

KJV ⁹ And I spake unto you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone:

KJV ¹⁰ The LORD your God hath multiplied you, and, behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.

NEG ¹⁰ L'Eternel, votre Dieu, vous a multipliés, et vous êtes aujourd'hui aussi nombreux que les étoiles du ciel.

KJV ¹¹ (The LORD God of your fathers make you a thousand times so many more as ye are, and bless you, as he hath promised you!)

NEG ¹¹ Que l'Eternel, le Dieu de vos pères, vous augmente mille fois autant, et qu'il vous bénisse comme il vous l'a promis!

KJV ¹² How can I myself alone bear your cumbrance, and your burden, and your strife?

NEG ¹² Comment porterais-je, à moi seul, votre charge, votre fardeau et vos contestations?

KJV ¹³ Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.

NEG ¹³ Prenez dans vos tribus des hommes sages, intelligents et connus, et je les mettrai à votre tête.

KJV ¹⁴ And ye answered me, and said, The thing which thou hast spoken is good for us to do.

KJV ¹⁵ So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes.

NEG ¹⁵ Je pris alors les chefs de vos tribus, des hommes sages et connus, et je les mis à votre tête comme chefs de mille, chefs de cent, chefs de cinquante, et chefs de dix, et comme ayant autorité dans vos tribus.

KJV ¹⁶ And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.

NEG ¹⁶ Je donnai, dans le même temps, cet ordre à vos juges: Ecoutez vos frères, et jugez selon la justice les différends de chacun avec son frère ou avec l'étranger.

WLC ¹⁶ וָאֲצַוֶּה֙ אֶת־ שֹׁ֣פְטֵיכֶ֔ם בָּעֵ֥ת הַהִ֖וא לֵאמֹ֑ר שָׁמֹ֤עַ בֵּין־ אֲחֵיכֶם֙ וּשְׁפַטְתֶּ֣ם צֶ֔דֶק בֵּֽין־ אִ֥ישׁ וּבֵין־ אָחִ֖יו וּבֵ֥ין גֵּרֽוֹ׃

KJV ¹⁷ Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God's: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.

NEG ¹⁷ Vous n'aurez point égard à l'apparence des personnes dans vos jugements; vous écouterez le petit comme le grand; vous ne craindrez aucun homme, car c'est Dieu qui rend la justice. Et lorsque vous trouverez une cause trop difficile, vous la porterez devant moi, pour que je l'entende.

WLC ¹⁷ לֹֽא־ תַכִּ֨ירוּ פָנִ֜ים בַּמִּשְׁפָּ֗ט כַּקָּטֹ֤ן כַּגָּדֹל֙ תִּשְׁמָע֔וּן לֹ֤א תָג֙וּרוּ֙ מִפְּנֵי־ אִ֔ישׁ כִּ֥י הַמִּשְׁפָּ֖ט לֵאלֹהִ֣ים ה֑וּא וְהַדָּבָר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִקְשֶׁ֣ה מִכֶּ֔ם תַּקְרִב֥וּן אֵלַ֖י וּשְׁמַעְתִּֽיו׃

KJV ¹⁸ And I commanded you at that time all the things which ye should do.

KJV ¹⁹ And when we departed from Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw by the way of the mountain of the Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadeshbarnea.

NEG ¹⁹ Nous partîmes d'Horeb et nous parcourûmes en entier ce grand et affreux désert que vous avez vu; nous prîmes le chemin de la montagne des Amoréens, comme l'Eternel, notre Dieu, nous l'avait ordonné, et nous arrivâmes à Kadès-Barnéa.

KJV ²⁰ And I said unto you, Ye are come unto the mountain of the Amorites, which the LORD our God doth give unto us.

KJV ²¹ Behold, the LORD thy God hath set the land before thee: go up and possess it, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath said unto thee; fear not, neither be discouraged.

NEG ²¹ Vois, l'Eternel, ton Dieu, met le pays devant toi; monte, prends-en possession, comme te l'a dit l'Eternel, le Dieu de tes pères; ne crains point, et ne t'effraie point.

KJV ²² And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come.

NEG ²² Vous vous approchâtes tous de moi, et vous dîtes: Envoyons des hommes devant nous, pour explorer le pays, et pour nous faire un rapport sur le chemin par lequel nous y monterons et sur les villes où nous arriverons.

KJV ²³ And the saying pleased me well: and I took twelve men of you, one of a tribe:

KJV ²⁴ And they turned and went up into the mountain, and came unto the valley of Eshcol, and searched it out.

NEG ²⁴ Ils partirent, traversèrent la montagne, et arrivèrent jusqu'à la vallée d'Eschcol, qu'ils explorèrent.

WLC ²⁴ וַיִּפְנוּ֙ וַיַּעֲל֣וּ הָהָ֔רָה וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ עַד־ נַ֣חַל אֶשְׁכֹּ֑ל וַֽיְרַגְּל֖וּ אֹתָֽהּ׃

KJV ²⁵ And they took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down unto us, and brought us word again, and said, It is a good land which the LORD our God doth give us.

NEG ²⁵ Ils prirent dans leurs mains des fruits du pays, et nous les présentèrent; ils nous firent un rapport, et dirent: C'est un bon pays, que l'Eternel, notre Dieu, nous donne.

WLC ²⁵ וַיִּקְח֤וּ בְיָדָם֙ מִפְּרִ֣י הָאָ֔רֶץ וַיּוֹרִ֖דוּ אֵלֵ֑ינוּ וַיָּשִׁ֨בוּ אֹתָ֤נוּ דָבָר֙ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ טוֹבָ֣ה הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־ יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ נֹתֵ֥ן לָֽנוּ׃

KJV ²⁶ Notwithstanding ye would not go up, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God:

NEG ²⁶ Mais vous ne voulûtes point y monter, et vous fûtes rebelles à l'ordre de l'Eternel, votre Dieu.

WLC ²⁶ וְלֹ֥א אֲבִיתֶ֖ם לַעֲלֹ֑ת וַתַּמְר֕וּ אֶת־ פִּ֥י יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃

KJV ²⁷ And ye murmured in your tents, and said, Because the LORD hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.

NEG ²⁷ Vous murmurâtes dans vos tentes et vous dîtes: C'est parce que l'Eternel nous hait, qu'il nous a fait sortir du pays d'Egypte, afin de nous livrer entre les mains des Amoréens et de nous détruire.

WLC ²⁷ וַתֵּרָגְנ֤וּ בְאָהֳלֵיכֶם֙ וַתֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ בְּשִׂנְאַ֤ת יְהוָה֙ אֹתָ֔נוּ הוֹצִיאָ֖נוּ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם לָתֵ֥ת אֹתָ֛נוּ בְּיַ֥ד הָאֱמֹרִ֖י לְהַשְׁמִידֵֽנוּ׃

KJV ²⁸ Whither shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there.

NEG ²⁸ Où monterions-nous? Nos frères nous ont fait perdre courage, en disant: C'est un peuple plus grand et de plus haute taille que nous; ce sont des villes grandes et fortifiées jusqu'au ciel; nous y avons même vu des enfants d'Anak.

WLC ²⁸ אָנָ֣ה ׀ אֲנַ֣חְנוּ עֹלִ֗ים אַחֵינוּ֩ הֵמַ֨סּוּ אֶת־ לְבָבֵ֜נוּ לֵאמֹ֗ר עַ֣ם גָּד֤וֹל וָרָם֙ מִמֶּ֔נּוּ עָרִ֛ים גְּדֹלֹ֥ת וּבְצוּרֹ֖ת בַּשָּׁמָ֑יִם וְגַם־ בְּנֵ֥י עֲנָקִ֖ים רָאִ֥ינוּ שָֽׁם׃

KJV ²⁹ Then I said unto you, Dread not, neither be afraid of them.

NEG ²⁹ Je vous dis: Ne vous épouvantez pas, et n'ayez pas peur d'eux.

WLC ²⁹ וָאֹמַ֖ר אֲלֵכֶ֑ם לֹא־ תַֽעַרְצ֥וּן וְֽלֹא־ תִֽירְא֖וּן מֵהֶֽם׃

KJV ³⁰ The LORD your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;

NEG ³⁰ L'Eternel, votre Dieu, qui marche devant vous, combattra lui-même pour vous, selon tout ce qu'il a fait pour vous sous vos yeux en Egypte,

WLC ³⁰ יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם֙ הַהֹלֵ֣ךְ לִפְנֵיכֶ֔ם ה֖וּא יִלָּחֵ֣ם לָכֶ֑ם כְּ֠כֹל אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשָׂ֧ה אִתְּכֶ֛ם בְּמִצְרַ֖יִם לְעֵינֵיכֶֽם׃

KJV ³¹ And in the wilderness, where thou hast seen how that the LORD thy God bare thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came into this place.

NEG ³¹ puis au désert, où tu as vu que l'Eternel, ton Dieu, t'a porté comme un homme porte son fils, pendant toute la route que vous avez faite jusqu'à votre arrivée en ce lieu.

WLC ³¹ וּבַמִּדְבָּר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר רָאִ֔יתָ אֲשֶׁ֤ר נְשָׂאֲךָ֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר יִשָּׂא־ אִ֖ישׁ אֶת־ בְּנ֑וֹ בְּכָל־ הַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הֲלַכְתֶּ֔ם עַד־ בֹּאֲכֶ֖ם עַד־ הַמָּק֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃

KJV ³² Yet in this thing ye did not believe the LORD your God,

NEG ³² Malgré cela, vous n'eûtes point confiance en l'Eternel, votre Dieu,

WLC ³² וּבַדָּבָ֖ר הַזֶּ֑ה אֵֽינְכֶם֙ מַאֲמִינִ֔ם בַּיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃

KJV ³³ Who went in the way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to shew you by what way ye should go, and in a cloud by day.

NEG ³³ qui allait devant vous sur la route pour vous chercher un lieu de campement, la nuit dans un feu afin de vous montrer le chemin où vous deviez marcher, et le jour dans une nuée.

WLC ³³ הַהֹלֵ֨ךְ לִפְנֵיכֶ֜ם בַּדֶּ֗רֶךְ לָת֥וּר לָכֶ֛ם מָק֖וֹם לַֽחֲנֹֽתְכֶ֑ם בָּאֵ֣שׁ ׀ לַ֗יְלָה לַרְאֹֽתְכֶם֙ בַּדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תֵּֽלְכוּ־ בָ֔הּ וּבֶעָנָ֖ן יוֹמָֽם׃

KJV ³⁴ And the LORD heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and sware, saying,

NEG ³⁴ L'Eternel entendit le bruit de vos paroles. Il s'irrita, et jura, en disant:

WLC ³⁴ וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע יְהוָ֖ה אֶת־ ק֣וֹל דִּבְרֵיכֶ֑ם וַיִּקְצֹ֖ף וַיִּשָּׁבַ֥ע לֵאמֹֽר׃

KJV ³⁵ Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation see that good land, which I sware to give unto your fathers.

NEG ³⁵ Aucun des hommes de cette génération méchante ne verra le bon pays que j'ai juré de donner à vos pères,

WLC ³⁵ אִם־ יִרְאֶ֥ה אִישׁ֙ בָּאֲנָשִׁ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה הַדּ֥וֹר הָרָ֖ע הַזֶּ֑ה אֵ֚ת הָאָ֣רֶץ הַטּוֹבָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִשְׁבַּ֔עְתִּי לָתֵ֖ת לַאֲבֹתֵיכֶֽם׃

KJV ³⁶ Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he hath trodden upon, and to his children, because he hath wholly followed the LORD.

NEG ³⁶ excepté Caleb, fils de Jephunné; il le verra, lui, et je donnerai à lui et à ses enfants le pays sur lequel il a marché, parce qu'il a pleinement suivi la voie de l'Eternel.

WLC ³⁶ זֽוּלָתִ֞י כָּלֵ֤ב בֶּן־ יְפֻנֶּה֙ ה֣וּא יִרְאֶ֔נָּה וְלֽוֹ־ אֶתֵּ֧ן אֶת־ הָאָ֛רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֥ר דָּֽרַךְ־ בָּ֖הּ וּלְבָנָ֑יו יַ֕עַן אֲשֶׁ֥ר מִלֵּ֖א אַחֲרֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ³⁷ Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou also shalt not go in thither.

NEG ³⁷ L'Eternel s'irrita aussi contre moi, à cause de vous, et il dit: Toi non plus, tu n'y entreras point.

WLC ³⁷ גַּם־ בִּי֙ הִתְאַנַּ֣ף יְהוָ֔ה בִּגְלַלְכֶ֖ם לֵאמֹ֑ר גַּם־ אַתָּ֖ה לֹא־ תָבֹ֥א שָֽׁם׃

KJV ³⁸ But Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

NEG ³⁸ Josué, fils de Nun, ton serviteur, y entrera; fortifie-le, car c'est lui qui mettra Israël en possession de ce pays.

WLC ³⁸ יְהוֹשֻׁ֤עַ בִּן נוּן֙ הָעֹמֵ֣ד לְפָנֶ֔יךָ ה֖וּא יָ֣בֹא שָׁ֑מָּה אֹת֣וֹ חַזֵּ֔ק כִּי־ ה֖וּא יַנְחִלֶ֥נָּה אֶת־ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ³⁹ Moreover your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, and your children, which in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.

NEG ³⁹ Et vos petits enfants, dont vous avez dit: Ils deviendront une proie! et vos fils, qui ne connaissent aujourd'hui ni le bien ni le mal, ce sont eux qui y entreront, c'est à eux que je le donnerai, et ce sont eux qui le posséderont.

WLC ³⁹ וְטַפְּכֶם֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר אֲמַרְתֶּ֜ם לָבַ֣ז יִהְיֶ֗ה וּ֠בְנֵיכֶם אֲשֶׁ֨ר לֹא־ יָדְע֤וּ הַיּוֹם֙ ט֣וֹב וָרָ֔ע הֵ֖מָּה יָבֹ֣אוּ שָׁ֑מָּה וְלָהֶ֣ם אֶתְּנֶ֔נָּה וְהֵ֖ם יִירָשֽׁוּהָּ׃

KJV ⁴⁰ But as for you, turn you, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

NEG ⁴⁰ Mais vous, tournez-vous, et partez pour le désert, dans la direction de la mer Rouge.

WLC ⁴⁰ וְאַתֶּ֖ם פְּנ֣וּ לָכֶ֑ם וּסְע֥וּ הַמִּדְבָּ֖רָה דֶּ֥רֶךְ יַם־ סֽוּף׃

KJV ⁴¹ Then ye answered and said unto me, We have sinned against the LORD, we will go up and fight, according to all that the LORD our God commanded us. And when ye had girded on every man his weapons of war, ye were ready to go up into the hill.

NEG ⁴¹ Vous répondîtes, en me disant: Nous avons péché contre l'Eternel; nous monterons et nous combattrons, comme l'Eternel, notre Dieu, nous l'a ordonné. Et vous ceignîtes chacun vos armes, et vous fîtes le projet téméraire de monter à la montagne.

WLC ⁴¹ וַֽתַּעֲנ֣וּ ׀ וַתֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלַ֗י חָטָאנוּ֮ לַֽיהוָה֒ אֲנַ֤חְנוּ נַעֲלֶה֙ וְנִלְחַ֔מְנוּ כְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־ צִוָּ֖נוּ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ וַֽתַּחְגְּר֗וּ אִ֚ישׁ אֶת־ כְּלֵ֣י מִלְחַמְתּ֔וֹ וַתָּהִ֖ינוּ לַעֲלֹ֥ת הָהָֽרָה׃

KJV ⁴² And the LORD said unto me, Say unto them. Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies.

NEG ⁴² L'Eternel me dit: Dis-leur: Ne montez pas et ne combattez pas, car je ne suis pas au milieu de vous; ne vous faites pas battre par vos ennemis.

WLC ⁴² וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗י אֱמֹ֤ר לָהֶם֙ לֹ֤א תַֽעֲלוּ֙ וְלֹא־ תִלָּ֣חֲמ֔וּ כִּ֥י אֵינֶ֖נִּי בְּקִרְבְּכֶ֑ם וְלֹא֙ תִּנָּֽגְפ֔וּ לִפְנֵ֖י אֹיְבֵיכֶֽם׃

KJV ⁴³ So I spake unto you; and ye would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and went presumptuously up into the hill.

NEG ⁴³ Je vous parlai, mais vous n'écoutâtes point; vous fûtes rebelles à l'ordre de l'Eternel, et vous montâtes audacieusement à la montagne.

WLC ⁴³ וָאֲדַבֵּ֥ר אֲלֵיכֶ֖ם וְלֹ֣א שְׁמַעְתֶּ֑ם וַתַּמְרוּ֙ אֶת־ פִּ֣י יְהוָ֔ה וַתָּזִ֖דוּ וַתַּעֲל֥וּ הָהָֽרָה׃

KJV ⁴⁴ And the Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in Seir, even unto Hormah.

NEG ⁴⁴ Alors les Amoréens, qui habitent cette montagne, sortirent à votre rencontre, et vous poursuivirent comme font les abeilles; ils vous battirent en Séir, jusqu'à Horma.

WLC ⁴⁴ וַיֵּצֵ֨א הָאֱמֹרִ֜י הַיֹּשֵׁ֨ב בָּהָ֤ר הַהוּא֙ לִקְרַאתְכֶ֔ם וַיִּרְדְּפ֣וּ אֶתְכֶ֔ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר תַּעֲשֶׂ֖ינָה הַדְּבֹרִ֑ים וַֽיַּכְּת֥וּ אֶתְכֶ֛ם בְּשֵׂעִ֖יר עַד־ חָרְמָֽה׃

KJV ⁴⁵ And ye returned and wept before the LORD; but the LORD would not hearken to your voice, nor give ear unto you.

NEG ⁴⁵ A votre retour, vous pleurâtes devant l'Eternel; mais l'Eternel n'écouta point votre voix, et ne vous prêta point l'oreille.

WLC ⁴⁵ וַתָּשֻׁ֥בוּ וַתִּבְכּ֖וּ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וְלֹֽא־ שָׁמַ֤ע יְהוָה֙ בְּקֹ֣לְכֶ֔ם וְלֹ֥א הֶאֱזִ֖ין אֲלֵיכֶֽם׃

KJV ⁴⁶ So ye abode in Kadesh many days, according unto the days that ye abode there.

NEG ⁴⁶ Vous restâtes à Kadès, où le temps que vous y avez passé fut de longue durée.
