Dt 8 (Annotée Neuchâtel)

¹ Vous prendrez garde à mettre en pratique tous les commandements que je vous donne aujourd'hui, afin que vous viviez et que vous multipliiez et que vous entriez dans le pays que l'Eternel a promis par serment à vos pères, et que vous le possédiez.
² Et tu te souviendras de tout le chemin par lequel l'Eternel ton Dieu t'a fait marcher pendant ces quarante ans dans te désert, afin de t'humilier en t'éprouvant pour connaître ce qui est dans ton coeur, si tu garderas ses commandements ou non.
³ Il t'a humilié et t'a fait avoir faim et t'a fait manger la manne, que tu ne connaissais pas et que n'avaient pas connue tes pères, afin de t'apprendre que l'homme ne vivra pas de pain seulement, mais que l'homme vivra de tout ce qui sort de la bouche de l'Eternel.
⁴ Ton vêtement ne s'est point usé sur toi et ton pied ne s'est point enflé pendant ces quarante ans.
⁵ Reconnais en ton coeur que l'Eternel ton Dieu fait ton éducation comme un homme fait celle de son enfant.
⁶ Et tu garderas les commandements de l'Eternel ton Dieu en marchant dans ses voies et en le craignant.
⁷ Car l'Eternel ton Dieu va te faire entrer dans un bon pays, pays de torrents, de sources et d'eaux profondes sortant dans la plaine et dans la montagne ;
⁸ pays de froment, d'orge, de vignes, de figuiers et de grenadiers ; pays d'oliviers, d'huile et de miel ;
⁹ pays où tu ne mangeras pas ton pain dans la misère, où tu ne manqueras de rien ; pays dont les pierres sont du fer et des montagnes duquel tu tailleras l'airain.
¹⁰ Tu mangeras et te rassasieras, et tu béniras l'Eternel ton Dieu pour le bon pays qu'il t'aura donné.
¹¹ Garde-toi d'oublier l'Eternel, ton Dieu, de sorte que tu négliges d'observer ses commandements, ses ordonnances et ses statuts que je te prescris aujourd'hui ;
¹² de peur qu'il n'arrive que tu manges et te rassasies, que tu te bâtisses de belles maisons et les habites,
¹³ que ton gros et ton menu bétail s'accroisse, que ton argent et ton or abondent, que tous, tes biens abondent,
¹⁴ et que ton coeur s'élève et que tu oublies l'Eternel, ton Dieu, qui t'a tiré de la terre d'Egypte, d'une maison de servitude,
¹⁵ qui t'a fait marcher dans ce grand et terrible désert, parmi les serpents brûlants et les scorpions, dans des lieux arides où il n'y a point d'eau, qui a fait jaillir pour toi de l'eau du roc vif,
¹⁶ qui t'a fait manger dans le désert une manne inconnue à tes pères, afin de t'humilier et de t'éprouver pour te faire ensuite du bien,
¹⁷ et que tu ne dises en ton coeur : C'est ma force et la puissance de ma main qui m'ont acquis cette prospérité.
¹⁸ Souviens-toi de l'Eternel ton Dieu, car c'est lui qui te donne de la force pour acquérir cette prospérité, afin de confirmer, comme il l'a fait aujourd'hui, l'alliance qu'il a jurée à tes pères.
¹⁹ Que s'il t'arrive d'oublier l'Eternel, ton Dieu, et d'aller après d'autres dieux et de les servir et de te prosterner devant eux, je proteste aujourd'hui contre vous que certainement vous périrez.
²⁰ De même que les nations que l'Eternel fait périr devant vous, ainsi vous périrez, parce que vous n'aurez point écouté la voix de l'Eternel votre Dieu.

¹ All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers.
² And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.
³ And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
⁴ Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.
⁵ Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.
⁶ Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.
⁷ For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills;
⁸ A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey;
⁹ A land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig brass.
¹⁰ When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the LORD thy God for the good land which he hath given thee.
¹¹ Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day:
¹² Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein;
¹³ And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied;
¹⁴ Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;
¹⁵ Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;
¹⁶ Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;
¹⁷ And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.
¹⁸ But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
¹⁹ And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.
²⁰ As the nations which the LORD destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish; because ye would not be obedient unto the voice of the LORD your God.

¹ Omne mandatum, quod ego præcipio tibi hodie, cave diligenter ut facias, ut possitis vivere, et multiplicemini, ingressique possideatis terram, pro qua juravit Dominus patribus vestris.
² Et recordaberis cuncti itineris, per quod adduxit te Dominus Deus tuus quadraginta annis per desertum, ut affligeret te, atque tentaret, et nota fierent quæ in tuo animo versabantur, utrum custodires mandata illius, an non.
³ Afflixit te penuria, et dedit tibi cibum manna, quod ignorabas tu et patres tui : ut ostenderet tibi quod non in solo pane vivat homo, sed in omni verbo quod egreditur de ore Dei.
⁴ Vestimentum tuum, quo operiebaris, nequaquam vetustate defecit, et pes tuus non est subtritus, en quadragesimus annus est :
⁵ ut recogites in corde tuo, quia sicut erudit filium suum homo, sic Dominus Deus tuus erudivit te,
⁶ ut custodias mandata Domini Dei tui, et ambules in viis ejus, et timeas eum.
⁷ Dominus enim Deus tuus introducet te in terram bonam, terram rivorum, aquarumque et fontium, in cujus campis et montibus erumpunt fluviorum abyssi :
⁸ terram frumenti, hordei ac vinearum, in qua ficus, et malogranata, et oliveta nascuntur : terram olei ac mellis,
⁹ ubi absque ulla penuria comedes panem tuum, et rerum omnium abundantia perfrueris : cujus lapides ferrum sunt, et de montibus ejus æris metalla fodiuntur :
¹⁰ ut cum comederis, et satiatus fueris, benedicas Domino Deo tuo pro terra optima, quam dedit tibi.
¹¹ Observa, et cave nequando obliviscaris Domini Dei tui, et negligas mandata ejus atque judicia et cæremonias, quas ego præcipio tibi hodie :
¹² ne postquam comederis et satiatus fueris, domos pulchras ædificaveris, et habitaveris in eis,
¹³ habuerisque armenta boum, et ovium greges, argenti et auri, cunctarumque rerum copiam,
¹⁴ elevetur cor tuum, et non reminiscaris Domini Dei tui, qui eduxit te de terra Ægypti, de domo servitutis,
¹⁵ et ductor tuus fuit in solitudine magna atque terribili, in qua erat serpens flatu adurens, et scorpio, ac dipsas, et nullæ omnino aquæ : qui eduxit rivos de petra durissima,
¹⁶ et cibavit te manna in solitudine, quod nescierunt patres tui. Et postquam afflixit ac probavit, ad extremum misertus est tui,
¹⁷ ne diceres in corde tuo : Fortitudo mea, et robur manus meæ, hæc mihi omnia præstiterunt :
¹⁸ sed recorderis Domini Dei tui, quod ipse vires tibi præbuerit, ut impleret pactum suum, super quo juravit patribus tuis, sicut præsens indicat dies.
¹⁹ Sin autem oblitus Domini Dei tui, secutus fueris deos alienos, coluerisque illos et adoraveris : ecce nunc prædico tibi quod omnino dispereas.
²⁰ Sicut gentes, quas delevit Dominus in introitu tuo, ita et vos peribitis, si inobedientes fueritis voci Domini Dei vestri.
