S21 ¹ »Ecoute, Israël! Tu vas aujourd'hui passer le Jourdain pour te rendre maître de nations plus grandes et plus puissantes que toi, de villes grandes et fortifiées jusqu'au ciel,

KJV ² A people great and tall, the children of the Anakims, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the children of Anak!

S21 ² d'un peuple grand et de haute taille, les descendants d'Anak, que tu connais et à propos desquels tu as entendu dire: ‘Qui pourrait résister aux descendants d'Anak?'

KJV ³ Understand therefore this day, that the LORD thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD hath said unto thee.

S21 ³ Sache aujourd'hui que l'Eternel, ton Dieu, marchera lui-même devant toi comme un feu dévorant. C'est lui qui les détruira, qui les humiliera devant toi, et tu les chasseras, tu les feras disparaître rapidement, comme l'Eternel te l'a dit.

KJV ⁴ Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee.

S21 ⁴ Lorsque l'Eternel, ton Dieu, les aura chassés devant toi, ne dis pas dans ton cœur: ‘C'est à cause de ma justice que l'Eternel me fait entrer en possession de ce pays.' En effet, c'est à cause de la méchanceté de ces nations que l'Eternel les chasse devant toi.

KJV ⁵ Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

S21 ⁵ Non, ce n'est pas à cause de ta justice et de la droiture de ton cœur que tu entres en possession de leur pays, c'est à cause de la méchanceté de ces nations que l'Eternel, ton Dieu, les chasse devant toi, et c'est pour confirmer la promesse que l'Eternel a faite avec serment à tes ancêtres, à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob.

KJV ⁶ Understand therefore, that the LORD thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people.

S21 ⁶ Sache donc que ce n'est pas à cause de ta justice que l'Eternel, ton Dieu, te donne ce bon pays à posséder, car tu es un peuple réfractaire.

KJV ⁷ Remember, and forget not, how thou provokedst the LORD thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been rebellious against the LORD.

S21 ⁷ »Souviens-toi, n'oublie pas de quelle manière tu as excité la colère de l'Eternel, ton Dieu, dans le désert. Depuis le jour où tu es sorti d'Egypte jusqu'à votre arrivée ici, vous vous êtes révoltés contre l'Eternel.

KJV ⁸ Also in Horeb ye provoked the LORD to wrath, so that the LORD was angry with you to have destroyed you.

KJV ⁹ When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water:

S21 ⁹ Lorsque je suis monté sur la montagne pour prendre les tables de pierre, les tables de l'alliance que l'Eternel a conclue avec vous, je suis resté là 40 jours et 40 nuits, sans manger de pain et sans boire d'eau.

KJV ¹⁰ And the LORD delivered unto me two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which the LORD spake with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.

KJV ¹² And the LORD said unto me, Arise, get thee down quickly from hence; for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a molten image.

S21 ¹² L'Eternel m'a dit alors: ‘Lève-toi, dépêche-toi de descendre d'ici. En effet, ton peuple, celui que tu as fait sortir d'Egypte, s'est corrompu. Ils se sont bien vite écartés de la voie que je leur avais prescrite: ils se sont fait une idole en métal fondu.'

KJV ¹³ Furthermore the LORD spake unto me, saying, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:

S21 ¹³ L'Eternel m'a dit: ‘Je vois que ce peuple est un peuple réfractaire.

KJV ¹⁴ Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they.

S21 ¹⁴ Laisse-moi les détruire et effacer leur nom de dessous le ciel, tandis que je ferai de toi une nation plus puissante et plus nombreuse que ce peuple.'

KJV ¹⁵ So I turned and came down from the mount, and the mount burned with fire: and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands.

KJV ¹⁷ And I took the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and brake them before your eyes.

KJV ¹⁸ And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

S21 ¹⁸ Je me suis prosterné devant l'Eternel, comme précédemment, 40 jours et 40 nuits, sans manger de pain et sans boire d'eau, à cause de tous les péchés que vous aviez commis en faisant ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Eternel pour l'irriter.

KJV ¹⁹ For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, wherewith the LORD was wroth against you to destroy you. But the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also.

S21 ¹⁹ En effet, *j'étais tremblant de peur en voyant la colère et la fureur dont l'Eternel était animé contre vous au point de vouloir vous détruire. Mais l'Eternel m'a écouté cette fois encore.

KJV ²⁰ And the LORD was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him: and I prayed for Aaron also the same time.

S21 ²⁰ L'Eternel était aussi très irrité contre Aaron, qu'il voulait faire mourir, et j'ai encore intercédé pour lui à cette époque-là.

KJV ²¹ And I took your sin, the calf which ye had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, and ground it very small, even until it was as small as dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descended out of the mount.

S21 ²¹ J'ai pris le veau que vous aviez fait, ce produit de votre péché, je l'ai brûlé au feu, je l'ai broyé jusqu'à ce qu'il soit réduit en poudre et j'ai jeté cette poudre dans le torrent qui descend de la montagne.

KJV ²² And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibrothhattaavah, ye provoked the LORD to wrath.

KJV ²³ Likewise when the LORD sent you from Kadeshbarnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then ye rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice.

S21 ²³ »Lorsque l'Eternel vous a envoyés à Kadès-Barnéa en disant: ‘Montez, prenez possession du pays que je vous donne!' vous vous êtes révoltés contre l'ordre de l'Eternel, votre Dieu, vous n'avez pas eu foi en lui et vous n'avez pas obéi à sa voix.

KJV ²⁴ Ye have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.

S21 ²⁴ »Vous avez été rebelles contre l'Eternel depuis que je vous connais.

KJV ²⁵ Thus I fell down before the LORD forty days and forty nights, as I fell down at the first; because the LORD had said he would destroy you.

S21 ²⁵ »Je me suis prosterné 40 jours et 40 nuits, parce que l'Eternel avait dit qu'il voulait vous détruire.

KJV ²⁶ I prayed therefore unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

S21 ²⁶ J'ai prié l'Eternel, j'ai dit: ‘Seigneur Eternel, ne détruis pas ton peuple, ton héritage, que tu as racheté dans ta grandeur, que tu as fait sortir d'Egypte par ta main puissante.

KJV ²⁷ Remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not unto the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin:

S21 ²⁷ Souviens-toi de tes serviteurs Abraham, Isaac et Jacob. Ne regarde pas à la dureté de ce peuple, à sa méchanceté et à son péché.

KJV ²⁸ Lest the land whence thou broughtest us out say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he hated them, he hath brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.

S21 ²⁸ Sinon, les habitants du pays d'où tu nous as fait sortir diront: C'est parce que l'Eternel n'avait pas le pouvoir de les conduire dans le pays qu'il leur avait promis et parce qu'il les détestait qu'il les a fait sortir pour les faire mourir dans le désert.

KJV ²⁹ Yet they are thy people and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest out by thy mighty power and by thy stretched out arm.

S21 ²⁹ Ils sont pourtant ton peuple et ton héritage, que tu as fait sortir d'Egypte avec puissance et force.'
