NEG ¹ Ne te presse pas d'ouvrir la bouche, et que ton cœur ne se hâte pas d'exprimer une parole devant Dieu; car Dieu est au ciel, et toi sur la terre: que tes paroles soient donc peu nombreuses.

WLC ¹ אַל־ תְּבַהֵ֨ל עַל־ פִּ֜יךָ וְלִבְּךָ֧ אַל־ יְמַהֵ֛ר לְהוֹצִ֥יא דָבָ֖ר לִפְנֵ֣י הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים כִּ֣י הָאֱלֹהִ֤ים בַּשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ וְאַתָּ֣ה עַל־ הָאָ֔רֶץ עַֽל־ כֵּ֛ן יִהְי֥וּ דְבָרֶ֖יךָ מְעַטִּֽים׃

KJV ² Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.

NEG ² Car, si les songes naissent de la multitude des occupations, la voix de l'insensé se fait entendre dans la multitude des paroles.

WLC ² כִּ֛י בָּ֥א הַחֲל֖וֹם בְּרֹ֣ב עִנְיָ֑ן וְק֥וֹל כְּסִ֖יל בְּרֹ֥ב דְּבָרִֽים׃

KJV ³ For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice is known by multitude of words.

NEG ³ Lorsque tu as fait un vœu à Dieu, ne tarde pas à l'accomplir, car il n'aime pas les insensés: accomplis le vœu que tu as fait.

WLC ³ כַּאֲשֶׁר֩ תִּדֹּ֨ר נֶ֜דֶר לֵֽאלֹהִ֗ים אַל־ תְּאַחֵר֙ לְשַׁלְּמ֔וֹ כִּ֛י אֵ֥ין חֵ֖פֶץ בַּכְּסִילִ֑ים אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־ תִּדֹּ֖ר שַׁלֵּֽם׃

KJV ⁴ When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.

NEG ⁴ Mieux vaut pour toi ne point faire de vœu, que d'en faire un et de ne pas l'accomplir.

WLC ⁴ ט֖וֹב אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹֽא־ תִדֹּ֑ר מִשֶׁתִּדּ֖וֹר וְלֹ֥א תְשַׁלֵּֽם׃

KJV ⁵ Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.

NEG ⁵ Ne permets pas à ta bouche de faire pécher ta chair, et ne dis pas en présence de l'envoyé que c'est une inadvertance. Pourquoi Dieu s'irriterait-il de tes paroles, et détruirait-il l'ouvrage de tes mains?

WLC ⁵ אַל־ תִּתֵּ֤ן אֶת־ פִּ֙יךָ֙ לַחֲטִ֣יא אֶת־ בְּשָׂרֶ֔ךָ וְאַל־ תֹּאמַר֙ לִפְנֵ֣י הַמַּלְאָ֔ךְ כִּ֥י שְׁגָגָ֖ה הִ֑יא לָ֣מָּה יִקְצֹ֤ף הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ עַל־ קוֹלֶ֔ךָ וְחִבֵּ֖ל אֶת־ מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה יָדֶֽיךָ׃

KJV ⁶ Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands?

NEG ⁶ Car, s'il y a des vanités dans la multitude des songes, il y en a aussi dans beaucoup de paroles; c'est pourquoi, crains Dieu.

WLC ⁶ כִּ֣י בְרֹ֤ב חֲלֹמוֹת֙ וַהֲבָלִ֔ים וּדְבָרִ֖ים הַרְבֵּ֑ה כִּ֥י אֶת־ הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים יְרָֽא׃

KJV ⁷ For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou God.

NEG ⁷ Si tu vois dans une province le pauvre opprimé et la violation du droit et de la justice, ne t'en étonne point; car un homme élevé est placé sous la surveillance d'un autre plus élevé, et au-dessus d'eux il en est de plus élevés encore.

WLC ⁷ אִם־ עֹ֣שֶׁק רָ֠שׁ וְגֵ֨זֶל מִשְׁפָּ֤ט וָצֶ֙דֶק֙ תִּרְאֶ֣ה בַמְּדִינָ֔ה אַל־ תִּתְמַ֖הּ עַל־ הַחֵ֑פֶץ כִּ֣י גָבֹ֜הַּ מֵעַ֤ל גָּבֹ֙הַ֙ שֹׁמֵ֔ר וּגְבֹהִ֖ים עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃

KJV ⁸ If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they.

NEG ⁸ Un avantage pour le pays à tous égards, c'est un roi honoré du pays.

WLC ⁸ וְיִתְר֥וֹן אֶ֖רֶץ בַּכֹּ֣ל מֶ֥לֶךְ לְשָׂדֶ֖ה נֶעֱבָֽד׃

KJV ⁹ Moreover the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field.

NEG ⁹ Celui qui aime l'argent n'est pas rassasié par l'argent, et celui qui aime les richesses n'en profite pas. C'est encore là une vanité.

WLC ⁹ אֹהֵ֥ב כֶּ֙סֶף֙ לֹא־ יִשְׂבַּ֣ע כֶּ֔סֶף וּמִֽי־ אֹהֵ֥ב בֶּהָמ֖וֹן לֹ֣א תְבוּאָ֑ה גַּם־ זֶ֖ה הָֽבֶל׃

KJV ¹⁰ He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.

NEG ¹⁰ Quand le bien abonde, ceux qui le mangent abondent; et quel avantage en revient-il à son possesseur, sinon qu'il le voit de ses yeux?

WLC ¹⁰ בִּרְבוֹת֙ הַטּוֹבָ֔ה רַבּ֖וּ אוֹכְלֶ֑יהָ וּמַה־ כִּשְׁרוֹן֙ לִבְעָלֶ֔יהָ כִּ֖י אִם־ עֵינָֽיו׃

KJV ¹¹ When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?

NEG ¹¹ Le sommeil du travailleur est doux, qu'il ait peu ou beaucoup à manger; mais le rassasiement du riche ne le laisse pas dormir.

WLC ¹¹ מְתוּקָה֙ שְׁנַ֣ת הָעֹבֵ֔ד אִם־ מְעַ֥ט וְאִם־ הַרְבֵּ֖ה יֹאכֵ֑ל וְהַשָּׂבָע֙ לֶֽעָשִׁ֔יר אֵינֶ֛נּוּ מַנִּ֥יחַֽ ל֖וֹ לִישֽׁוֹן׃

KJV ¹² The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.

NEG ¹² Il est un mal grave que j'ai vu sous le soleil: des richesses conservées, pour son malheur, par celui qui les possède.

WLC ¹² יֵ֚שׁ רָעָ֣ה חוֹלָ֔ה רָאִ֖יתִי תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ עֹ֛שֶׁר שָׁמ֥וּר לִבְעָלָ֖יו לְרָעָתֽוֹ׃

KJV ¹³ There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt.

NEG ¹³ Ces richesses se perdent par quelque événement fâcheux; il a engendré un fils, et il ne reste rien entre ses mains.

WLC ¹³ וְאָבַ֛ד הָעֹ֥שֶׁר הַה֖וּא בְּעִנְיַ֣ן רָ֑ע וְהוֹלִ֣יד בֵּ֔ן וְאֵ֥ין בְּיָד֖וֹ מְאֽוּמָה׃

KJV ¹⁴ But those riches perish by evil travail: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand.

NEG ¹⁴ Comme il est sorti du ventre de sa mère, il s'en retourne nu ainsi qu'il était venu, et pour son travail il n'emporte rien qu'il puisse prendre dans sa main.

WLC ¹⁴ כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר יָצָא֙ מִבֶּ֣טֶן אִמּ֔וֹ עָר֛וֹם יָשׁ֥וּב לָלֶ֖כֶת כְּשֶׁבָּ֑א וּמְא֙וּמָה֙ לֹא־ יִשָּׂ֣א בַעֲמָל֔וֹ שֶׁיֹּלֵ֖ךְ בְּיָדֽוֹ׃

KJV ¹⁵ As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.

NEG ¹⁵ C'est encore là un mal grave. Il s'en va comme il était venu; et quel avantage lui revient-il d'avoir travaillé pour du vent?

WLC ¹⁵ וְגַם־ זֹה֙ רָעָ֣ה חוֹלָ֔ה כָּל־ עֻמַּ֥ת שֶׁבָּ֖א כֵּ֣ן יֵלֵ֑ךְ וּמַה־ יִּתְר֣וֹן ל֔וֹ שֶֽׁיַּעֲמֹ֖ל לָרֽוּחַ׃

KJV ¹⁶ And this also is a sore evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that hath laboured for the wind?

NEG ¹⁶ De plus, toute sa vie il mange dans les ténèbres, et il a beaucoup de chagrin, de maux et d'irritation.

WLC ¹⁶ גַּ֥ם כָּל־ יָמָ֖יו בַּחֹ֣שֶׁךְ יֹאכֵ֑ל וְכָעַ֥ס הַרְבֵּ֖ה וְחָלְי֥וֹ וָקָֽצֶף׃

KJV ¹⁷ All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much sorrow and wrath with his sickness.

NEG ¹⁷ Voici ce que j'ai vu: c'est pour l'homme une chose bonne et belle de manger et de boire, et de jouir du bien-être au milieu de tout le travail qu'il fait sous le soleil, pendant le nombre des jours de vie que Dieu lui a donnés; car c'est là sa part.

WLC ¹⁷ הִנֵּ֞ה אֲשֶׁר־ רָאִ֣יתִי אָ֗נִי ט֣וֹב אֲשֶׁר־ יָפֶ֣ה לֶֽאֶכוֹל־ וְ֠לִשְׁתּוֹת וְלִרְא֨וֹת טוֹבָ֜ה בְּכָל־ עֲמָל֣וֹ ׀ שֶׁיַּעֲמֹ֣ל תַּֽחַת־ הַשֶּׁ֗מֶשׁ מִסְפַּ֧ר יְמֵי־ אֲשֶׁר־ נָֽתַן־ ל֥וֹ הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים כִּי־ ה֥וּא חֶלְקֽוֹ׃

KJV ¹⁸ Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.

NEG ¹⁸ Mais, si Dieu a donné à un homme des richesses et des biens, s'il l'a rendu maître d'en manger, d'en prendre sa part, et de se réjouir au milieu de son travail, c'est là un don de Dieu.

WLC ¹⁸ גַּ֣ם כָּֽל־ הָאָדָ֡ם אֲשֶׁ֣ר נָֽתַן־ ל֣וֹ הָאֱלֹהִים֩ עֹ֨שֶׁר וּנְכָסִ֜ים וְהִשְׁלִיט֨וֹ לֶאֱכֹ֤ל מִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙ וְלָשֵׂ֣את אֶת־ חֶלְק֔וֹ וְלִשְׂמֹ֖חַ בַּעֲמָל֑וֹ זֹ֕ה מַתַּ֥ת אֱלֹהִ֖ים הִֽיא׃

KJV ¹⁹ Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.

NEG ¹⁹ Car il ne se souviendra pas beaucoup des jours de sa vie, parce que Dieu répand la joie dans son cœur.

KJV ²⁰ For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart.
