KJV ² To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!

et priver les plus humbles de mon peuple de leurs droits,
pour faire des veuves leur proie
et dépouiller les orphelins!

VULC ² ut opprimerent in judicio pauperes,
et vim facerent causæ humilium populi mei ;

KJV ³ And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?

lorsque la dévastation arrivera de loin?
Vers qui fuirez-vous pour trouver de l'aide
et où laisserez-vous votre gloire?

KJV ⁴ Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

S21 ⁴ Les uns seront courbés parmi les prisonniers,
les autres tomberont parmi les condamnés à mort.
Mais malgré tout cela, sa colère ne se détourne pas
et sa puissance est encore déployée.

VULC ⁴ ne incurvemini sub vinculo,

Super omnibus his non est aversus furor ejus,

KJV ⁵ O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.

Le gourdin dans sa main, c'est l'instrument de ma colère.

VULC ⁵ [Væ Assur ! virga furoris mei et baculus ipse est ;
in manu eorum indignatio mea.

WLC ⁵ ה֥וֹי אַשּׁ֖וּר שֵׁ֣בֶט אַפִּ֑י וּמַטֶּה־ ה֥וּא בְיָדָ֖ם זַעְמִֽי׃

KJV ⁶ I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

S21 ⁶ Je l'ai lâché contre une nation impie,
je l'ai fait marcher contre le peuple qui déclenche ma fureur,
pour qu'il s'y livre au pillage et qu'il y fasse du butin,
pour qu'il le piétine comme la boue des rues.

VULC ⁶ Ad gentem fallacem mittam eum,
et contra populum furoris mei mandabo illi,
ut auferat spolia, et diripiat prædam,
et ponat illum in conculcationem quasi lutum platearum.

WLC ⁶ בְּג֤וֹי חָנֵף֙ אֲשַׁלְּחֶ֔נּוּ וְעַל־ עַ֥ם עֶבְרָתִ֖י אֲצַוֶּ֑נּוּ לִשְׁלֹ֤ל שָׁלָל֙ וְלָבֹ֣ז בַּ֔ז מִרְמָ֖ס כְּחֹ֥מֶר חוּצֽוֹת׃

KJV ⁷ Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.

S21 ⁷ Cependant, le roi d'Assyrie ne voit pas la situation de cette manière
et ce n'est pas le projet que forme son cœur;
il ne pense qu'à détruire,
qu'à éliminer des nations, et pas en petit nombre!

VULC ⁷ Ipse autem non sic arbitrabitur,
et cor ejus non ita existimabit ;
sed ad conterendum erit cor ejus,
et ad internecionem gentium non paucarum.

KJV ⁸ For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?

KJV ⁹ Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?

S21 ⁹ Le sort de Calno n'a-t-il pas été identique à celui de Karkemish,
le sort de Hamath à celui d'Arpad,
le sort de Samarie à celui de Damas?

VULC ⁹ Numquid non principes mei simul reges sunt ?
numquid non ut Charcamis, sic Calano ?
et ut Arphad, sic Emath ?
numquid non ut Damascus, sic Samaria ?

KJV ¹⁰ As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;

KJV ¹² Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.

contre le mont Sion et contre Jérusalem,
j'interviendrai contre le roi d'Assyrie à cause du fruit de son orgueil
et de l'arrogance de son regard.

cuncta opera sua
in monte Sion et in Jerusalem,
visitabo super fructum magnifici cordis regis Assur,
et super gloriam altitudinis oculorum ejus.

KJV ¹³ For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:

et in sapientia mea intellexi ;
et abstuli terminos populorum,
et principes eorum deprædatus sum,
et detraxi quasi potens in sublimi residentes.

KJV ¹⁴ And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.

S21 ¹⁴ J'ai fait main basse sur les richesses des peuples aussi facilement que sur un nid
et j'ai ramassé toute la terre,
comme on le fait pour des œufs abandonnés:
il n'y a eu personne pour remuer l'aile,
ouvrir le bec ou pousser un cri.»

VULC ¹⁴ Et invenit quasi nidum manus mea
fortitudinem populorum ;
et sicut colliguntur ova quæ derelicta sunt,
sic universam terram ego congregavi ;
et non fuit qui moveret pennam,
et aperiret os, et ganniret.

KJV ¹⁵ Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.

S21 ¹⁵ La hache se vante-t-elle aux dépens de celui qui se sert d'elle?
La scie se montre-t-elle arrogante vis-à-vis de celui qui la manie?
C'est comme si le gourdin faisait bouger celui qui le brandit,
comme si le bâton soulevait celui qui n'est pas un simple morceau de bois!

VULC ¹⁵ Numquid gloriabitur securis contra eum qui secat in ea ?
aut exaltabitur serra contra eum a quo trahitur ?
Quomodo si elevetur virga contra elevantem se,
et exaltetur baculus, qui utique lignum est.

WLC ¹⁵ הֲיִתְפָּאֵר֙ הַגַּרְזֶ֔ן עַ֖ל הַחֹצֵ֣ב בּ֑וֹ אִם־ יִתְגַּדֵּ֤ל הַמַּשּׂוֹר֙ עַל־ מְנִיפ֔וֹ כְּהָנִ֥יף שֵׁ֙בֶט֙ וְאֶת־ מְרִימָ֔יו כְּהָרִ֥ים מַטֶּ֖ה לֹא־ עֵֽץ׃

KJV ¹⁶ Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.

le dépérissement parmi ses robustes guerriers;
parmi ses dignitaires éclatera un incendie
pareil à celui d'un feu.

et subtus gloriam ejus succensa ardebit
quasi combustio ignis.

KJV ¹⁷ And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;

et son Saint sera une flamme
qui brûlera et dévastera ses buissons épineux et ses ronces
en un seul jour,

VULC ¹⁷ Et erit lumen Israël in igne,
et Sanctus ejus in flamma ;
et succendetur, et devorabitur
spina ejus et vepres in die una.

KJV ¹⁸ And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standard-bearer fainteth.

la gloire de sa forêt et de son verger:
elle ressemblera à un malade qui dépérit.

VULC ¹⁸ Et gloria saltus ejus, et carmeli ejus,
ab anima usque ad carnem consumetur ;
et erit terrore profugus.

KJV ¹⁹ And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them.

KJV ²⁰ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

cesseront de s'appuyer sur celui qui les frappait;

inniti super eo qui percutit eos ;

KJV ²¹ The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.

reviendra vers le Dieu puissant.

VULC ²¹ Reliquiæ convertentur ; reliquiæ, inquam, Jacob
ad Deum fortem.

KJV ²² For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.

un reste seulement reviendra.
La destruction est décidée, elle déborde de justice.

VULC ²² Si enim fuerit populus tuus, Israël, quasi arena maris,

inundabit justitiam.

KJV ²³ For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land.

S21 ²³ Et cette destruction qui a été décidée,
le Seigneur, l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers, l'accomplira dans tout le pays.

Dominus Deus exercituum faciet in medio omnis terræ.

WLC ²³ כִּ֥י כָלָ֖ה וְנֶחֱרָצָ֑ה אֲדֹנָ֤י יְהוִה֙ צְבָא֔וֹת עֹשֶׂ֖ה בְּקֶ֥רֶב כָּל־ הָאָֽרֶץ׃

KJV ²⁴ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.

«Toi, mon peuple qui habites en Sion,
n'aie pas peur de l'Assyrien!
Il te frappe à coups de bâton,
il lève son gourdin contre toi comme le faisaient les Egyptiens,

VULC ²⁴ Propter hoc, hæc dicit Dominus Deus exercituum :
Noli timere, populus meus,
habitator Sion, ab Assur :
in virga percutiet te,
et baculum suum levabit super te,
in via Ægypti.

WLC ²⁴ לָכֵ֗ן כֹּֽה־ אָמַ֞ר אֲדֹנָ֤י יְהוִה֙ צְבָא֔וֹת אַל־ תִּירָ֥א עַמִּ֛י יֹשֵׁ֥ב צִיּ֖וֹן מֵֽאַשּׁ֑וּר בַּשֵּׁ֣בֶט יַכֶּ֔כָּה וּמַטֵּ֥הוּ יִשָּֽׂא־ עָלֶ֖יךָ בְּדֶ֥רֶךְ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

KJV ²⁵ For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.

S21 ²⁵ mais encore un peu, très peu de temps,
et ma fureur contre toi prendra fin:
ma colère se dirigera contre lui pour le détruire.»

VULC ²⁵ Adhuc enim paululum modicumque,
et consummabitur indignatio
et furor meus super scelus eorum.

WLC ²⁵ כִּי־ ע֖וֹד מְעַ֣ט מִזְעָ֑ר וְכָ֣לָה זַ֔עַם וְאַפִּ֖י עַל־ תַּבְלִיתָֽם׃

KJV ²⁶ And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.

S21 ²⁶ L'Eternel, le maître de l'univers, brandira le fouet contre lui
tout comme il a frappé Madian au rocher d'Oreb,
et il lèvera encore son bâton sur la mer
comme il l'a fait en Egypte.

VULC ²⁶ Et suscitabit super eum Dominus exercituum flagellum,
juxta plagam Madian in petra Oreb :
et virgam suam super mare,
et levabit eam in via Ægypti.

WLC ²⁶ וְעוֹרֵ֨ר עָלָ֜יו יְהוָ֤ה צְבָאוֹת֙ שׁ֔וֹט כְּמַכַּ֥ת מִדְיָ֖ן בְּצ֣וּר עוֹרֵ֑ב וּמַטֵּ֙הוּ֙ עַל־ הַיָּ֔ם וּנְשָׂא֖וֹ בְּדֶ֥רֶךְ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

KJV ²⁷ And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

S21 ²⁷ Ce jour-là, le fardeau qu'il faisait peser sur toi sera retiré,
la domination qu'il exerçait sera écartée;
brisée, elle laissera place à la bénédiction.

auferetur onus ejus de humero tuo
et jugum ejus de collo tuo,
et computrescet jugum a facie olei.]

KJV ²⁸ He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages:

KJV ²⁹ They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.

Rama tremble,

Gaba sedes nostra ;
