KJV ¹ Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.

KJV ² And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.

MAR ² Et tel sera le Sacrificateur que le peuple ; tel le maître que son serviteur ; telle la dame que sa servante ; tel le vendeur que l'acheteur ; tel celui qui prête que celui qui emprunte ; tel le créancier, que le débiteur.

VULC ² Et erit sicut populus, sic sacerdos ;
et sicut servus, sic dominus ejus ;
sicut ancilla, sic domina ejus ;
sicut emens, sic ille qui vendit ;
sicut fœnerator, sic is qui mutuum accipit ;
sicut qui repetit, sic qui debet.

WLC ² וְהָיָ֤ה כָעָם֙ כַּכֹּהֵ֔ן כַּעֶ֙בֶד֙ כַּֽאדֹנָ֔יו כַּשִּׁפְחָ֖ה כַּגְּבִרְתָּ֑הּ כַּקּוֹנֶה֙ כַּמּוֹכֵ֔ר כַּמַּלְוֶה֙ כַּלֹּוֶ֔ה כַּנֹּשֶׁ֕ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר נֹשֶׁ֥א בֽוֹ׃

KJV ³ The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word.

MAR ³ Le pays sera entièrement vidé, et entièrement pillé ; car l'Eternel a prononcé cet arrêt.

VULC ³ Dissipatione dissipabitur terra, et direptione prædabitur ;
Dominus enim locutus est verbum hoc.

WLC ³ הִבּ֧וֹק ׀ תִּבּ֛וֹק הָאָ֖רֶץ וְהִבּ֣וֹז ׀ תִּבּ֑וֹז כִּ֣י יְהוָ֔ה דִּבֶּ֖ר אֶת־ הַדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּֽה׃

KJV ⁴ The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish.

MAR ⁴ La terre mène deuil, elle est déchue ; le pays habité est devenu languissant, il est déchu ; les plus distingués du peuple de la terre sont languissants.

VULC ⁴ Luxit, et defluxit terra, et infirmata est ;
defluxit orbis,
infirmata est altitudo populi terræ.

WLC ⁴ אָבְלָ֤ה נָֽבְלָה֙ הָאָ֔רֶץ אֻמְלְלָ֥ה נָבְלָ֖ה תֵּבֵ֑ל אֻמְלָ֖לוּ מְר֥וֹם עַם־ הָאָֽרֶץ׃

KJV ⁵ The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.

MAR ⁵ Le pays a été profané par ses habitants, qui marchent sur lui ; parce qu'ils ont transgressé les lois, ils ont changé les ordonnances, et ont enfreint l'alliance éternelle.

VULC ⁵ Et terra infecta est ab habitatoribus suis,
quia transgressi sunt leges,
mutaverunt jus,
dissipaverunt fœdus sempiternum.

WLC ⁵ וְהָאָ֥רֶץ חָנְפָ֖ה תַּ֣חַת יֹשְׁבֶ֑יהָ כִּֽי־ עָבְר֤וּ תוֹרֹת֙ חָ֣לְפוּ חֹ֔ק הֵפֵ֖רוּ בְּרִ֥ית עוֹלָֽם׃

KJV ⁶ Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.

MAR ⁶ C'est pourquoi l'exécration du serment a dévoré le pays, et ses habitants ont été mis en désolation ; à cause de cela les habitants du pays sont brûlés, et peu de gens sont demeurés de reste.

VULC ⁶ Propter hoc maledictio vorabit terram,
et peccabunt habitatores ejus ;
ideoque insanient cultores ejus,
et relinquentur homines pauci.

WLC ⁶ עַל־ כֵּ֗ן אָלָה֙ אָ֣כְלָה אֶ֔רֶץ וַֽיֶּאְשְׁמ֖וּ יֹ֣שְׁבֵי בָ֑הּ עַל־ כֵּ֗ן חָרוּ֙ יֹ֣שְׁבֵי אֶ֔רֶץ וְנִשְׁאַ֥ר אֱנ֖וֹשׁ מִזְעָֽר׃

KJV ⁷ The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do sigh.

MAR ⁷ Le vin excellent a mené deuil, la vigne languit, tous ceux qui avaient le cœur joyeux soupirent.

VULC ⁷ Luxit vindemia, infirmata est vitis,
ingemuerunt omnes qui lætabantur corde ;

WLC ⁷ אָבַ֥ל תִּיר֖וֹשׁ אֻמְלְלָה־ גָ֑פֶן נֶאֶנְח֖וּ כָּל־ שִׂמְחֵי־ לֵֽב׃

KJV ⁸ The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth.

MAR ⁸ La joie des tambours a cessé ; le bruit de ceux qui s'égayent est fini ; la joie de la harpe a cessé.

VULC ⁸ cessavit gaudium tympanorum,
quievit sonitus lætantium,
conticuit dulcedo citharæ.

KJV ⁹ They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.

MAR ⁹ On ne boira plus de vin avec des chansons ; la cervoise sera amère à ceux qui la boivent.

VULC ⁹ Cum cantico non bibent vinum ;
amara erit potio bibentibus illam.

WLC ⁹ בַּשִּׁ֖יר לֹ֣א יִשְׁתּוּ־ יָ֑יִן יֵמַ֥ר שֵׁכָ֖ר לְשֹׁתָֽיו׃

KJV ¹⁰ The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in.

MAR ¹⁰ La ville défigurée a été ruinée, toute maison est fermée, tellement que personne n'y entre.

VULC ¹⁰ Attrita est civitas vanitatis,
clausa est omnis domus, nullo introëunte.

WLC ¹⁰ נִשְׁבְּרָ֖ה קִרְיַת־ תֹּ֑הוּ סֻגַּ֥ר כָּל־ בַּ֖יִת מִבּֽוֹא׃

KJV ¹¹ There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.

MAR ¹¹ La clameur est dans les places à cause que le vin [a manqué], toute la joie est tournée en obscurité, l'allégresse du pays s'en est allée.

VULC ¹¹ Clamor erit super vino in plateis,
deserta est omnia lætitia,
translatum est gaudium terræ.

WLC ¹¹ צְוָחָ֥ה עַל־ הַיַּ֖יִן בַּֽחוּצ֑וֹת עָֽרְבָה֙ כָּל־ שִׂמְחָ֔ה גָּלָ֖ה מְשׂ֥וֹשׂ הָאָֽרֶץ׃

KJV ¹² In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

MAR ¹² La désolation est demeurée dans la ville, et la porte est frappée d'une ruine éclatante.

VULC ¹² Relicta est in urbe solitudo,
et calamitas opprimet portas.

WLC ¹² נִשְׁאַ֥ר בָּעִ֖יר שַׁמָּ֑ה וּשְׁאִיָּ֖ה יֻכַּת־ שָֽׁעַר׃

KJV ¹³ When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done.

MAR ¹³ Car il arrivera au milieu de la terre, et parmi les peuples, comme quand on secoue l'olivier, et [comme] quand on grappille après avoir achevé de vendanger.

VULC ¹³ Quia hæc erunt in medio terræ
in medio populorum,
quomodo si paucæ olivæ quæ remanserunt
excutiantur ex olea et racemi,
cum fuerit finita vindemia.]

WLC ¹³ כִּ֣י כֹ֥ה יִהְיֶ֛ה בְּקֶ֥רֶב הָאָ֖רֶץ בְּת֣וֹךְ הָֽעַמִּ֑ים כְּנֹ֣קֶף זַ֔יִת כְּעוֹלֵלֹ֖ת אִם־ כָּלָ֥ה בָצִֽיר׃

KJV ¹⁴ They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the LORD, they shall cry aloud from the sea.

MAR ¹⁴ Ceux-ci élèveront leur voix, ils se réjouiront avec chant de triomphe, et s'égayeront de devers la mer, à cause de la majesté de l'Eternel.

VULC ¹⁴ [Hi levabunt vocem suam, atque laudabunt :
cum glorificatus fuerit Dominus, hinnient de mari.

WLC ¹⁴ הֵ֛מָּה יִשְׂא֥וּ קוֹלָ֖ם יָרֹ֑נּוּ בִּגְא֣וֹן יְהוָ֔ה צָהֲל֖וּ מִיָּֽם׃

KJV ¹⁵ Wherefore glorify ye the LORD in the fires, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea.

MAR ¹⁵ C'est pourquoi glorifiez l'Eternel dans les vallées, le Nom de l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, dans les Iles de la mer.

VULC ¹⁵ Propter hoc in doctrinis glorificate Dominum ;

WLC ¹⁵ עַל־ כֵּ֥ן בָּאֻרִ֖ים כַּבְּד֣וּ יְהוָ֑ה בְּאִיֵּ֣י הַיָּ֔ם שֵׁ֥ם יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ¹⁶ From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.

MAR ¹⁶ Nous avions entendu du bout de la terre des cantiques [qui portaient] que le Juste était plein de noblesse ; mais j'ai dit : Maigreur sur moi ! maigreur sur moi ! Malheur à moi ! les perfides ont agi perfidement ; et ils ont imité la mauvaise foi des perfides.

VULC ¹⁶ A finibus terræ laudes audivimus,
gloriam Justi.
Et dixi : Secretum meum mihi,
secretum meum mihi.
Væ mihi !
prævaricantes prævaricati sunt,
et prævaricatione transgressorum prævaricati sunt.

KJV ¹⁷ Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.

MAR ¹⁷ La frayeur, la fosse, et le piège sont sur toi, habitant du pays.

VULC ¹⁷ Formido, et fovea, et laqueus
super te, qui habitator es terræ.

WLC ¹⁷ פַּ֥חַד וָפַ֖חַת וָפָ֑ח עָלֶ֖יךָ יוֹשֵׁ֥ב הָאָֽרֶץ׃

KJV ¹⁸ And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.

MAR ¹⁸ Et il arrivera que celui qui s'enfuira à cause du bruit de la frayeur, tombera dans la fosse ; et celui qui sera remonté hors de la fosse, sera attrapé au filet ; car les bondes d'en haut sont ouvertes, et les fondements de la terre tremblent.

VULC ¹⁸ Et erit : qui fugerit a voce formidinis cadet in foveam ;
et qui se explicaverit de fovea tenebitur laqueo ;
quia cataractæ de excelsis apertæ sunt
et concutientur fundamenta terræ.

WLC ¹⁸ וְֽ֠הָיָה הַנָּ֞ס מִקּ֤וֹל הַפַּ֙חַד֙ יִפֹּ֣ל אֶל־ הַפַּ֔חַת וְהָֽעוֹלֶה֙ מִתּ֣וֹךְ הַפַּ֔חַת יִלָּכֵ֖ד בַּפָּ֑ח כִּֽי־ אֲרֻבּ֤וֹת מִמָּרוֹם֙ נִפְתָּ֔חוּ וַֽיִּרְעֲשׁ֖וּ מ֥וֹסְדֵי אָֽרֶץ׃

KJV ¹⁹ The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.

MAR ¹⁹ La terre s'est entièrement brisée, la terre s'est entièrement écrasée, la terre s'est entièrement remuée de sa place.

VULC ¹⁹ Confractione confringetur terra,
contritione conteretur terra,
commotione commovebitur terra ;

KJV ²⁰ The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.

MAR ²⁰ La terre chancellera entièrement comme un homme ivre, et sera transportée comme une loge, et son forfait s'appesantira sur elle, tellement qu'elle tombera, et ne se relèvera plus.

VULC ²⁰ agitatione agitabitur terra sicut ebrius,
et auferetur quasi tabernaculum unius noctis ;
et gravabit eam iniquitas sua,
et corruet, et non adjiciet ut resurgat.

WLC ²⁰ נ֣וֹעַ תָּנ֤וּעַ אֶ֙רֶץ֙ כַּשִּׁכּ֔וֹר וְהִֽתְנוֹדְדָ֖ה כַּמְּלוּנָ֑ה וְכָבַ֤ד עָלֶ֙יהָ֙ פִּשְׁעָ֔הּ וְנָפְלָ֖ה וְלֹא־ תֹסִ֥יף קֽוּם׃

KJV ²¹ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.

MAR ²¹ Et il arrivera en ce jour-là, que l'Eternel visitera dans un lieu élevé l'armée superbe, et les Rois de la terre, sur la terre.

VULC ²¹ Et erit : in die illa visitabit Dominus
super militiam cæli in excelso,
et super reges terræ qui sunt super terram ;

WLC ²¹ וְהָיָה֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא יִפְקֹ֧ד יְהוָ֛ה עַל־ צְבָ֥א הַמָּר֖וֹם בַּמָּר֑וֹם וְעַל־ מַלְכֵ֥י הָאֲדָמָ֖ה עַל־ הָאֲדָמָֽה׃

KJV ²² And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.

MAR ²² Et ils seront assemblés en troupe comme des prisonniers dans une fosse ; et ils seront enfermés dans une prison, et après plusieurs jours ils seront visités.

VULC ²² et congregabuntur in congregatione unius fascis in lacum,
et claudentur ibi in carcere,
et post multos dies visitabuntur.

WLC ²² וְאֻסְּפ֨וּ אֲסֵפָ֤ה אַסִּיר֙ עַל־ בּ֔וֹר וְסֻגְּר֖וּ עַל־ מַסְגֵּ֑ר וּמֵרֹ֥ב יָמִ֖ים יִפָּקֵֽדוּ׃

KJV ²³ Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

MAR ²³ La lune rougira, et le soleil sera honteux , quand l'Eternel des armées régnera en la montagne de Sion, et à Jérusalem ; et ce ne sera que gloire en la présence de ses Anciens.

VULC ²³ Et erubescet luna, et confundetur sol,
cum regnaverit Dominus exercituum
in monte Sion et in Jerusalem
et in conspectu senum suorum fuerit glorificatus.]

WLC ²³ וְחָֽפְרָה֙ הַלְּבָנָ֔ה וּבוֹשָׁ֖ה הַֽחַמָּ֑ה כִּֽי־ מָלַ֞ךְ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֗וֹת בְּהַ֤ר צִיּוֹן֙ וּבִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם וְנֶ֥גֶד זְקֵנָ֖יו כָּבֽוֹד׃
