KJV 1 For, behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water.

VULC 1 [Ecce enim Dominator, Dominus exercituum,
auferet a Jerusalem et a Juda
validum et fortem,
omne robur panis, et omne robur aquæ ;

KJV 2 The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient,

VULC 2 fortem, et virum bellatorem,
judicem, et prophetam, et ariolum, et senem ;

KJV 3 The captain of fifty, and the honourable man, and the counsellor, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent orator.

VULC 3 principem super quinquaginta, et honorabilem vultu et consiliarium,
et sapientem de architectis, et prudentem eloquii mystici.

KJV 4 And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.

VULC 4 Et dabo pueros principes eorum,
et effeminati dominabuntur eis ;

KJV 5 And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable.

VULC 5 et irruet populus, vir ad virum,
et unusquisque ad proximum suum ;
tumultuabitur puer contra senem,
et ignobilis contra nobilem.

KJV 6 When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand:

VULC 6 Apprehendet enim vir fratrem suum,
domesticum patris sui :
Vestimentum tibi est, princeps esto noster,
ruina autem hæc sub manu tua.

KJV 7 In that day shall he swear, saying, I will not be an healer; for in my house is neither bread nor clothing: make me not a ruler of the people.

VULC 7 Respondebit in die illa, dicens :
Non sum medicus,
et in domo mea non est panis neque vestimentum :
nolite constituere me principem populi.

KJV 8 For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD, to provoke the eyes of his glory.

VULC 8 Ruit enim Jerusalem, et Judas concidit,
quia lingua eorum et adinventiones eorum contra Dominum,
ut provocarent oculos majestatis ejus.

KJV 9 The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.

VULC 9 Agnitio vultus eorum respondit eis ;
et peccatum suum quasi Sodoma prædicaverunt, nec absconderunt.
Væ animæ eorum, quoniam reddita sunt eis mala !

KJV 10 Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.

VULC 10 Dicite justo quoniam bene,
quoniam fructum adinventionum suarum comedet.

KJV 11 Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.

VULC 11 Væ impio in malum !
retributio enim manuum ejus fiet ei.

KJV 12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.

VULC 12 Populum meum exactores sui spoliaverunt,
et mulieres dominatæ sunt eis.
Popule meus, qui te beatum dicunt, ipsi te decipiunt,
et viam gressuum tuorum dissipant.

KJV 13 The LORD standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the people.

VULC 13 Stat ad judicandum Dominus,
et stat ad judicandos populos.

KJV 14 The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.

VULC 14 Dominus ad judicium veniet
cum senibus populi sui, et principibus ejus ;
vos enim depasti estis vineam,
et rapina pauperis in domo vestra.

KJV 15 What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

VULC 15 Quare atteritis populum meum,
et facies pauperum commolitis ?
dicit Dominus Deus exercituum.]

KJV 16 Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:

VULC 16 [Et dixit Dominus :
Pro eo quod elevatæ sunt filiæ Sion,
et ambulaverunt extento collo,
et nutibus oculorum ibant,
et plaudebant, ambulabant pedibus suis,
et composito gradu incedebant ;

KJV 17 Therefore the LORD will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will discover their secret parts.

VULC 17 decalvabit Dominus verticem filiarum Sion,
et Dominus crinem earum nudabit.

KJV 18 In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon,

VULC 18 In die illa auferet Dominus ornamentum calceamentum,

KJV 19 The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers,

VULC 19 et lunulas, et torques,
et monilia, et armillas, et mitras,

KJV 20 The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings,

VULC 20 et discriminalia, et periscelidas, et murenulas,
et olfactoriola, et inaures,

KJV 21 The rings, and nose jewels,

VULC 21 et annulos, et gemmas in fronte pendentes,

KJV 22 The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping pins,

VULC 22 et mutatoria, et palliola,
et linteamina, et acus,

KJV 23 The glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails.

VULC 23 et specula, et sindones,
et vittas, et theristra.

KJV 24 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty.

VULC 24 Et erit pro suavi odore fœtor,
et pro zona funiculus,
et pro crispanti crine calvitium,
et pro fascia pectorali cilicium.

KJV 25 Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war.

VULC 25 Pulcherrimi quoque viri tui gladio cadent,
et fortes tui in prælio.

KJV 26 And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.

VULC 26 Et mœrebunt atque lugebunt portæ ejus,
et desolata in terra sedebit.]
