DRB ² Et le roi d'Assyrie envoya le Rab-Shaké*, de Lakis à Jérusalem, vers le roi Ézéchias, avec de grandes forces ; et il se tint près de l'aqueduc de l'étang supérieur, sur la route du champ du foulon.

KJV ² And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem unto king Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field.

DRB ³ Et Éliakim, fils de Hilkija, qui était [préposé] sur la maison [du roi], et Shebna, le scribe, et Joakh, fils d'Asaph, rédacteur des chroniques, sortirent vers lui.

KJV ⁴ And Rabshakeh said unto them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?

DRB ⁵ Tu dis* (ce ne sont que paroles des lèvres) : Le conseil et la force [sont là] pour la guerre. Maintenant, en qui te confies-tu que tu te révoltes contre moi ?

KJV ⁵ I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for war: now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

NEG ⁵ Je te le dis, ce ne sont que des paroles en l'air: il faut pour la guerre de la prudence et de la force. En qui donc as-tu placé ta confiance, pour t'être révolté contre moi?

WLC ⁵ אָמַ֙רְתִּי֙ אַךְ־ דְּבַר־ שְׂפָתַ֔יִם עֵצָ֥ה וּגְבוּרָ֖ה לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה עַתָּה֙ עַל־ מִ֣י בָטַ֔חְתָּ כִּ֥י מָרַ֖דְתָּ בִּֽי׃

DRB ⁶ Voici, tu te confies en ce bâton de roseau cassé, en l'Égypte, lequel, si quelqu'un s'appuie dessus, lui entre dans la main et la perce. Tel est le Pharaon, roi d'Égypte, pour tous ceux qui se confient en lui.

KJV ⁶ Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.

KJV ⁷ But if thou say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?

KJV ⁸ Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.

KJV ⁹ How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

NEG ⁹ Comment repousserais-tu un seul chef d'entre les moindres serviteurs de mon maître? Tu mets ta confiance dans l'Egypte pour les chars et pour les cavaliers.

DRB ¹⁰ Et maintenant, suis-je monté sans l'Éternel contre ce pays pour le détruire ? L'Éternel m'a dit : Monte contre ce pays, et détruis-le.

KJV ¹⁰ And am I now come up without the LORD against this land to destroy it? the LORD said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

DRB ¹¹ Et Éliakim et Shebna et Joakh dirent au Rab-Shaké : Parle, nous te prions, à tes serviteurs en syriaque*, car nous le comprenons, et ne nous parle pas en [langue] judaïque, aux oreilles du peuple qui est sur la muraille.

KJV ¹¹ Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jews' language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.

DRB ¹² Et le Rab-Shaké dit : Est-ce vers ton seigneur et vers toi que mon seigneur m'a envoyé pour dire ces paroles ? N'est-ce pas vers les hommes qui se tiennent sur la muraille, pour manger leurs excréments et pour boire leur urine avec vous ?

KJV ¹² But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?

KJV ¹⁵ Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
