S21 ² Voici ce que dit l'Eternel, celui qui t'a fait
et qui t'a façonné depuis le ventre de ta mère,
celui qui est ton soutien:
N'aie pas peur, Jacob mon serviteur,
Jeshurun, toi que j'ai choisi.

KJV ³ For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:

S21 ³ En effet, je verserai de l'eau sur la terre qui a soif
et des ruisseaux sur le terrain sec;
je déverserai mon Esprit sur ta descendance
et ma bénédiction sur tes rejetons.

KJV ⁴ And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.

S21 ⁴ Ils pousseront au milieu de l'herbe
comme les saules près des cours d'eau.

KJV ⁵ One shall say, I am the LORD's; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel.

S21 ⁵ L'un dira: «J'appartiens à l'Eternel»,
l'autre voudra porter le nom de Jacob,
un autre écrira sur sa main: «Propriété de l'Eternel!»
et prendra avec fierté le nom d'Israël.

KJV ⁶ Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

S21 ⁶ Voici ce que dit l'Eternel, le roi d'Israël et celui qui le rachète,
l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers:
Je suis le premier et le dernier.
En dehors de moi, il n'y a pas de Dieu.

KJV ⁷ And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them.

S21 ⁷ Qui est pareil à moi? Qu'il le proclame,
qu'il le révèle et m'expose tout ce qui s'est passé depuis que j'ai fondé le peuple ancien!
Qu'on révèle aussi l'avenir et ce qui doit arriver!

KJV ⁸ Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.

S21 ⁸ Ne tremblez pas, n'ayez pas peur!
Ne te l'ai-je pas depuis longtemps annoncé et révélé?
Vous êtes mes témoins:
y a-t-il un autre Dieu en dehors de moi?
Il n'y a pas d'autre rocher, je n'en connais pas.

KJV ⁹ They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.

S21 ⁹ Ceux qui fabriquent des sculptures sacrées ne sont tous que vide
et celles qui font leur plus grand plaisir ne servent à rien.
Du reste, elles en témoignent elles-mêmes:
elles ne voient rien et ne savent rien,
si bien qu'ils seront couverts de honte.

KJV ¹⁰ Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing?

S21 ¹⁰ Qui est-ce qui façonne un dieu ou coule une sculpture sacrée
pour n'en retirer aucune utilité?

KJV ¹¹ Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together.

S21 ¹¹ Tous ses associés seront couverts de honte.
Les artisans ne sont eux-mêmes que des êtres humains.
Qu'ils se rassemblent là, qu'ils se présentent tous,
et tous ensemble ils seront tremblants et couverts de honte.

KJV ¹² The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint.

S21 ¹² Pour confectionner une hache, le forgeron
travaille avec des braises,
et il la façonne à coups de marteau,
il la travaille d'un bras vigoureux.
Cependant, il suffit qu'il ait faim et le voilà sans force,
qu'il n'ait pas bu d'eau et le voilà épuisé.

KJV ¹³ The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house.

S21 ¹³ Le charpentier étire le ruban à mesurer,
il fait un tracé à la craie
et travaille le bois au ciseau,
tout en faisant des marques au compas.
Il le travaille sur le modèle d'un homme,
d'un être humain dans toute sa beauté,
pour qu'il soit installé dans un temple.

KJV ¹⁴ He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it.

S21 ¹⁴ Pour cela, il se coupe des cèdres,
il se procure des chênes et de grands arbres
qu'il choisit bien vigoureux dans la forêt,
il plante des pins que la pluie fait grandir.

KJV ¹⁵ Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.

S21 ¹⁵ L'homme utilise ces arbres pour faire du feu:
il en prend une partie pour se chauffer,
il en brûle aussi pour faire cuire son pain.
Cependant, il les utilise aussi pour se fabriquer un dieu qu'il adore,
il en fait une statue devant laquelle il se prosterne!

KJV ¹⁶ He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire:

S21 ¹⁶ Il brûle la moitié de son bois afin de pouvoir manger de la viande,
préparer un rôti et se rassasier.
Il l'utilise aussi pour se chauffer et dit:
«Ah! Je me chauffe, je vois la flamme!»

KJV ¹⁷ And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god.

S21 ¹⁷ Et avec le reste il se fait un dieu, une sculpture sacrée!
Il se prosterne devant lui et l'adore,
il lui adresse des prières en s'écriant:
«Sauve-moi, car c'est toi qui es mon dieu!»

KJV ¹⁸ They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.

S21 ¹⁸ Ils n'ont ni discernement ni intelligence,
car on leur a fermé les yeux pour qu'ils ne voient pas
et le cœur pour qu'ils ne fassent pas preuve de bon sens.

KJV ¹⁹ And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?

S21 ¹⁹ Il ne se met pas à réfléchir,
il n'a ni le discernement ni l'intelligence de se dire:
«J'ai brûlé une moitié du bois,
j'ai cuit du pain sur ses braises,
j'y ai rôti de la viande pour la manger,
et avec le reste je ferais une horreur!
Je me prosternerais devant un morceau de bois!»

KJV ²⁰ He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

S21 ²⁰ Il se nourrit de cendres,
son cœur s'est laissé tromper et l'égare.
Il est incapable de se délivrer lui-même et de dire:
«N'est-ce pas une fausseté que j'ai dans la main?»

KJV ²¹ Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me.

S21 ²¹ Souviens-toi de cela, Jacob!
Souviens-t'en, Israël, car tu es mon serviteur.
Je t'ai façonné pour que tu sois mon serviteur,
Israël, je ne t'oublierai pas.

KJV ²² I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.

S21 ²² J'ai effacé tes transgressions comme un nuage,
tes péchés comme la brume.
Reviens vers moi,
car je t'ai racheté.

KJV ²³ Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.

S21 ²³ Ciel, réjouis-toi, car l'Eternel a agi!
Profondeurs de la terre, criez d'allégresse!
Montagnes, éclatez en cris de joie,
et vous aussi, forêts, avec tous vos arbres!
En effet, l'Eternel a racheté Jacob,
il a montré sa splendeur en Israël.

KJV ²⁴ Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;

S21 ²⁴ Voici ce que dit l'Eternel, celui qui te rachète,
celui qui t'a façonné dès le ventre de ta mère:
C'est moi, l'Eternel, qui suis l'auteur de tout.
Tout seul j'ai déployé le ciel, par moi-même j'ai disposé la terre.

KJV ²⁵ That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;

S21 ²⁵ Je fais échec aux signes des faiseurs de prédictions
et je frappe de folie les devins;
je fais reculer les sages
et montre la stupidité de leur savoir.

KJV ²⁶ That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:

S21 ²⁶ Je confirme la parole de mon serviteur
et je mets à exécution les décisions annoncées par mes messagers.
Je dis à propos de Jérusalem: «Elle sera habitée»
et à propos des villes de Juda: «Elles seront reconstruites
et je relèverai leurs ruines.»

KJV ²⁷ That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:

S21 ²⁷ Je dis aux profondeurs de la mer: «Asséchez-vous!
Je vais faire disparaître vos courants.»

KJV ²⁸ That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.

S21 ²⁸ Je dis à propos de Cyrus: «Il est mon berger
et il *accomplira toute ma volonté.
Il dira à Jérusalem: ‘Sois reconstruite!'
et au temple: ‘Que tes fondations soient posées!'»
