DRB ¹ Et les ennemis de Juda et de Benjamin entendirent que les fils de la transportation bâtissaient le temple de l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël ;

KJV ¹ Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the LORD God of Israel;

WLC ¹ וַֽיִּשְׁמְע֔וּ צָרֵ֥י יְהוּדָ֖ה וּבִנְיָמִ֑ן כִּֽי־ בְנֵ֤י הַגּוֹלָה֙ בּוֹנִ֣ים הֵיכָ֔ל לַיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

DRB ² et ils s'approchèrent de Zorobabel et des chefs des pères, et leur dirent : Nous bâtirons avec vous, car nous recherchons votre Dieu, comme vous, et nous lui offrons des sacrifices depuis les jours d'Ésar-Haddon, roi d'Assyrie, qui nous a fait monter ici.

KJV ² Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither.

WLC ² וַיִּגְּשׁ֨וּ אֶל־ זְרֻבָּבֶ֜ל וְאֶל־ רָאשֵׁ֣י הָֽאָב֗וֹת וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ לָהֶם֙ נִבְנֶ֣ה עִמָּכֶ֔ם כִּ֣י כָכֶ֔ם נִדְר֖וֹשׁ לֵֽאלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם אֲנַ֣חְנוּ זֹבְחִ֗ים מִימֵי֙ אֵסַ֤ר חַדֹּן֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֔וּר הַמַּעֲלֶ֥ה אֹתָ֖נוּ פֹּֽה׃

DRB ³ Et Zorobabel, et Jéshua, et le reste des chefs des pères d'Israël, leur dirent : Vous n'avez pas affaire avec nous pour bâtir une maison à notre Dieu, mais nous seuls, nous bâtirons à l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël, comme nous l'a commandé le roi Cyrus, roi de Perse.

KJV ³ But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.

WLC ³ וַיֹּאמֶר֩ לָהֶ֨ם זְרֻבָּבֶ֜ל וְיֵשׁ֗וּעַ וּשְׁאָ֨ר רָאשֵׁ֤י הָֽאָבוֹת֙ לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לֹֽא־ לָ֣כֶם וָלָ֔נוּ לִבְנ֥וֹת בַּ֖יִת לֵאלֹהֵ֑ינוּ כִּי֩ אֲנַ֨חְנוּ יַ֜חַד נִבְנֶ֗ה לַֽיהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוָּ֔נוּ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ כּ֥וֹרֶשׁ מֶֽלֶךְ־ פָּרָֽס׃

DRB ⁴ Alors le peuple du pays rendit lâches les mains du peuple de Juda ;

KJV ⁴ Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building,

WLC ⁴ וַיְהִי֙ עַם־ הָאָ֔רֶץ מְרַפִּ֖ים יְדֵ֣י עַם־ יְהוּדָ֑ה אוֹתָ֖ם לִבְנֽוֹת׃

DRB ⁵ et ils leur firent peur de bâtir, et ils soudoyèrent contre eux des conseillers pour faire échouer leur plan, durant tous les jours de Cyrus, roi de Perse, et jusqu'au règne de Darius, roi de Perse.

KJV ⁵ And hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.

WLC ⁵ וְסֹכְרִ֧ים עֲלֵיהֶ֛ם יוֹעֲצִ֖ים לְהָפֵ֣ר עֲצָתָ֑ם כָּל־ יְמֵ֗י כּ֚וֹרֶשׁ מֶ֣לֶךְ פָּרַ֔ס וְעַד־ מַלְכ֖וּת דָּרְיָ֥וֶשׁ מֶֽלֶךְ־ פָּרָֽס׃

DRB ⁶ Et sous le règne d'Assuérus, au commencement de son règne,* ils écrivirent une accusation contre les habitants de Juda et de Jérusalem.

KJV ⁶ And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they unto him an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.

WLC ⁶ וּבְמַלְכוּת֙ אֲחַשְׁוֵר֔וֹשׁ בִּתְחִלַּ֖ת מַלְכוּת֑וֹ כָּתְב֣וּ שִׂטְנָ֔ה עַל־ יֹשְׁבֵ֥י יְהוּדָ֖ה וִירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

DRB ⁷ Et aux jours d'Artaxerxès, * Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeël et le reste de ses collègues, écrivirent à Artaxerxès, roi de Perse ; et la lettre était écrite en écriture syriaque et traduite en syriaque :

KJV ⁷ And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their companions, unto Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian tongue, and interpreted in the Syrian tongue.

WLC ⁷ וּבִימֵ֣י אַרְתַּחְשַׁ֗שְׂתָּא כָּתַ֨ב בִּשְׁלָ֜ם מִתְרְדָ֤ת טָֽבְאֵל֙ וּשְׁאָ֣ר עַל־ מֶ֣לֶךְ פָּרָ֑ס וּכְתָב֙ הַֽנִּשְׁתְּוָ֔ן כָּת֥וּב אֲרָמִ֖ית וּמְתֻרְגָּ֥ם אֲרָמִֽית׃

DRB ⁸ Rehum, chancelier, et Shimshaï, secrétaire, écrivirent une lettre contre Jérusalem au roi Artaxerxès, en ces termes.

KJV ⁸ Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort:

WLC ⁸ רְח֣וּם בְּעֵל־ טְעֵ֗ם וְשִׁמְשַׁי֙ סָֽפְרָ֔א כְּתַ֛בוּ אִגְּרָ֥ה חֲדָ֖ה עַל־ יְרוּשְׁלֶ֑ם לְאַרְתַּחְשַׁ֥שְׂתְּא מַלְכָּ֖א כְּנֵֽמָא׃

DRB ⁹ Alors Rehum, chancelier, et Shimshaï, secrétaire, et le reste de leurs collègues, les Dinites, les Apharsathkites, les Tarpelites, les Apharsites, les Arkévites, les Babyloniens, les Susankites, les Déhaviens, les Élamites,

KJV ⁹ Then wrote Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions; the Dinaites, the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Susanchites, the Dehavites, and the Elamites,

WLC ⁹ אֱדַ֜יִן רְח֣וּם בְּעֵל־ טְעֵ֗ם וְשִׁמְשַׁי֙ סָֽפְרָ֔א וּשְׁאָ֖ר כְּנָוָתְה֑וֹן דִּ֠ינָיֵא וַאֲפַרְסַתְכָיֵ֞א טַרְפְּלָיֵ֣א אֲפָֽרְסָיֵ֗א בָבְלָיֵא֙ שֽׁוּשַׁנְכָיֵ֔א עֵלְמָיֵֽא׃

DRB ¹⁰ et le reste des peuplades que le grand et noble Osnappar transporta et fit habiter dans les villes* de Samarie et dans le reste [du pays] de ce côté du fleuve**, etc…

KJV ¹⁰ And the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnapper brought over, and set in the cities of Samaria, and the rest that are on this side the river, and at such a time.

WLC ¹⁰ וּשְׁאָ֣ר אֻמַּיָּ֗א דִּ֤י הַגְלִי֙ אָסְנַפַּר֙ רַבָּ֣א וְיַקִּירָ֔א וְהוֹתֵ֣ב הִמּ֔וֹ בְּקִרְיָ֖ה דִּ֣י שָׁמְרָ֑יִן וּשְׁאָ֥ר עֲבַֽר־ נַהֲרָ֖ה וּכְעֶֽנֶת׃

DRB ¹¹ C'est ici la copie de la lettre qu'ils lui envoyèrent : Au roi Artaxerxès : Tes serviteurs, les hommes de ce côté du fleuve, etc.

KJV ¹¹ This is the copy of the letter that they sent unto him, even unto Artaxerxes the king; Thy servants the men on this side the river, and at such a time.

WLC ¹¹ דְּנָה֙ פַּרְשֶׁ֣גֶן אִגַּרְתָּ֔א דִּ֚י שְׁלַ֣חוּ עֲל֔וֹהִי עַל־ אַרְתַּחְשַׁ֖שְׂתְּא מַלְכָּ֑א עַבְדָ֛יךְ אֱנָ֥שׁ עֲבַֽר־ נַהֲרָ֖ה וּכְעֶֽנֶת׃

DRB ¹² Que le roi sache que les Juifs qui sont montés de chez toi vers nous [et] sont venus à Jérusalem, bâtissent la ville rebelle et méchante, et que les murailles s'achèvent, et qu'ils restaurent* les fondements.

KJV ¹² Be it known unto the king, that the Jews which came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up the walls thereof, and joined the foundations.

WLC ¹² יְדִ֙יעַ֙ לֶהֱוֵ֣א לְמַלְכָּ֔א דִּ֣י יְהוּדָיֵ֗א דִּ֤י סְלִ֙קוּ֙ מִן־ לְוָתָ֔ךְ עֲלֶ֥ינָא אֲת֖וֹ לִירוּשְׁלֶ֑ם קִרְיְתָ֨א מָֽרָדְתָּ֤א בָּנַ֔יִן וְאֻשַּׁיָּ֖א יַחִֽיטוּ׃

DRB ¹³ Que le roi sache donc que si cette ville est bâtie et que ses murailles s'achèvent, ils ne payeront ni tribut, ni impôt, ni péage, et, plus tard, cela portera préjudice aux rois.

KJV ¹³ Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so thou shalt endamage the revenue of the kings.

WLC ¹³ כְּעַ֗ן יְדִ֙יעַ֙ לֶהֱוֵ֣א לְמַלְכָּ֔א דִּ֠י הֵ֣ן קִרְיְתָ֥א דָךְ֙ תִּתְבְּנֵ֔א וְשׁוּרַיָּ֖ה יִֽשְׁתַּכְלְל֑וּן מִנְדָּֽה־ בְל֤וֹ וַהֲלָךְ֙ לָ֣א יִנְתְּנ֔וּן וְאַפְּתֹ֥ם מַלְכִ֖ים תְּהַנְזִֽק׃

DRB ¹⁴ Or comme nous mangeons* le sel du palais, et qu'il n'était pas convenable pour nous de voir qu'on faisait tort au roi, à cause de cela nous avons envoyé et nous avons informé le roi,

KJV ¹⁴ Now because we have maintenance from the king's palace, and it was not meet for us to see the king's dishonour, therefore have we sent and certified the king;

WLC ¹⁴ כְּעַ֗ן כָּל־ קֳבֵל֙ דִּֽי־ מְלַ֤ח הֵֽיכְלָא֙ מְלַ֔חְנָא וְעַרְוַ֣ת מַלְכָּ֔א לָ֥א אֲ‍ֽרִֽיךְ לַ֖נָא לְמֶֽחֱזֵ֑א עַ֨ל־ דְּנָ֔ה שְׁלַ֖חְנָא וְהוֹדַ֥עְנָא לְמַלְכָּֽא׃

DRB ¹⁵ afin qu'on cherche dans le livre des annales de tes pères : et tu trouveras dans le livre des annales et tu sauras que cette ville est une ville rebelle, et qu'elle a porté préjudice aux rois et aux provinces, et que, dès les jours anciens, on y a fait des séditions ; c'est pourquoi cette ville a été détruite.

KJV ¹⁵ That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time: for which cause was this city destroyed.

WLC ¹⁵ דִּ֡י יְבַקַּר֩ בִּֽסְפַר־ דָּכְרָ֨נַיָּ֜א דִּ֣י אֲבָהָתָ֗ךְ וּ֠תְהַשְׁכַּח בִּסְפַ֣ר דָּכְרָנַיָּא֮ וְתִנְדַּע֒ דִּי֩ קִרְיְתָ֨א דָ֜ךְ קִרְיָ֣א מָֽרָדָ֗א וּֽמְהַנְזְקַ֤ת מַלְכִין֙ וּמְדִנָ֔ן וְאֶשְׁתַּדּוּר֙ עָבְדִ֣ין בְּגַוַּ֔הּ מִן־ יוֹמָ֖ת עָלְמָ֑א עַ֨ל־ דְּנָ֔ה קִרְיְתָ֥א דָ֖ךְ הָֽחָרְבַֽת׃

DRB ¹⁶ Nous faisons savoir au roi que si cette ville est rebâtie et que ses murailles s'achèvent, à cause de cela, tu n'auras plus de possession* de ce côté du fleuve.

KJV ¹⁶ We certify the king that, if this city be builded again, and the walls thereof set up, by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.

WLC ¹⁶ מְהוֹדְעִ֤ין אֲנַ֙חְנָה֙ לְמַלְכָּ֔א דִּ֠י הֵ֣ן קִרְיְתָ֥א דָךְ֙ תִּתְבְּנֵ֔א וְשׁוּרַיָּ֖ה יִֽשְׁתַּכְלְל֑וּן לָקֳבֵ֣ל דְּנָ֔ה חֲלָק֙ בַּעֲבַ֣ר נַהֲרָ֔א לָ֥א אִיתַ֖י לָֽךְ׃

DRB ¹⁷ Le roi envoya un rescrit à Rehum, chancelier, et à Shimshaï, secrétaire, et au reste de leurs collègues qui habitaient à Samarie, et dans le reste [du pays] de l'autre côté du fleuve : Paix, etc.

KJV ¹⁷ Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest beyond the river, Peace, and at such a time.

WLC ¹⁷ פִּתְגָמָ֞א שְׁלַ֣ח מַלְכָּ֗א עַל־ רְח֤וּם בְּעֵל־ טְעֵם֙ וְשִׁמְשַׁ֣י סָֽפְרָ֔א וּשְׁאָר֙ כְּנָוָ֣תְה֔וֹן דִּ֥י יָתְבִ֖ין בְּשָֽׁמְרָ֑יִן וּשְׁאָ֧ר עֲבַֽר־ נַהֲרָ֛ה שְׁלָ֖ם וּכְעֶֽת׃

DRB ¹⁸ La lettre que vous nous avez envoyée a été lue exactement devant moi.

KJV ¹⁸ The letter which ye sent unto us hath been plainly read before me.

WLC ¹⁸ נִשְׁתְּוָנָ֕א דִּ֥י שְׁלַחְתּ֖וּן עֲלֶ֑ינָא מְפָרַ֥שׁ קֱרִ֖י קָדָמָֽי׃

DRB ¹⁹ Et de par moi un ordre a été donné, et on a cherché, et on a trouvé que, dès les jours anciens, cette ville s'est soulevée contre les rois, et qu'il s'y est fait des révoltes et des séditions,

KJV ¹⁹ And I commanded, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein.

WLC ¹⁹ וּמִנִּי֮ שִׂ֣ים טְעֵם֒ וּבַקַּ֣רוּ וְהַשְׁכַּ֔חוּ דִּ֚י קִרְיְתָ֣א דָ֔ךְ מִן־ יוֹמָת֙ עָֽלְמָ֔א עַל־ מַלְכִ֖ין מִֽתְנַשְּׂאָ֑ה וּמְרַ֥ד וְאֶשְׁתַּדּ֖וּר מִתְעֲבֶד־ בַּֽהּ׃

DRB ²⁰ et qu'il y a eu sur Jérusalem de puissants rois qui ont régné sur tout ce qui est de l'autre côté du fleuve, et que le tribut, l'impôt, et le péage leur ont été payés.

KJV ²⁰ There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, which have ruled over all countries beyond the river; and toll, tribute, and custom, was paid unto them.

WLC ²⁰ וּמַלְכִ֣ין תַּקִּיפִ֗ין הֲווֹ֙ עַל־ יְר֣וּשְׁלֶ֔ם וְשַׁ֨לִּיטִ֔ין בְּכֹ֖ל עֲבַ֣ר נַהֲרָ֑ה וּמִדָּ֥ה בְל֛וֹ וַהֲלָ֖ךְ מִתְיְהֵ֥ב לְהֽוֹן׃

DRB ²¹ Ainsi, donnez ordre de faire cesser ces hommes, et que cette ville ne soit pas bâtie, jusqu'à ce que l'ordre en soit donné de par moi.

KJV ²¹ Give ye now commandment to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until another commandment shall be given from me.

WLC ²¹ כְּעַן֙ שִׂ֣ימוּ טְּעֵ֔ם לְבַטָּלָ֖א גֻּבְרַיָּ֣א אִלֵּ֑ךְ וְקִרְיְתָ֥א דָךְ֙ לָ֣א תִתְבְּנֵ֔א עַד־ מִנִּ֖י טַעְמָ֥א יִתְּשָֽׂם׃

DRB ²² Gardez-vous de manquer à faire cela : pourquoi le dommage augmenterait-il au préjudice des rois ?

KJV ²² Take heed now that ye fail not to do this: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

WLC ²² וּזְהִירִ֥ין הֱו֛וֹ שָׁל֖וּ לְמֶעְבַּ֣ד עַל־ דְּנָ֑ה לְמָה֙ יִשְׂגֵּ֣א חֲבָלָ֔א לְהַנְזָקַ֖ת מַלְכִֽין׃

DRB ²³ Alors, aussitôt que la copie de la lettre du roi Artaxerxès eut été lue devant Rehum et Shimshaï, le secrétaire, et leurs collègues, ils allèrent en hâte à Jérusalem vers les Juifs, et les firent cesser par force et par puissance.

KJV ²³ Now when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.

WLC ²³ אֱדַ֗יִן מִן־ דִּ֞י פַּרְשֶׁ֤גֶן נִשְׁתְּוָנָא֙ דִּ֚י מַלְכָּ֔א קֱרִ֧י קֳדָם־ רְח֛וּם וְשִׁמְשַׁ֥י סָפְרָ֖א וּכְנָוָתְה֑וֹן אֲזַ֨לוּ בִבְהִיל֤וּ לִירֽוּשְׁלֶם֙ עַל־ יְה֣וּדָיֵ֔א וּבַטִּ֥לוּ הִמּ֖וֹ בְּאֶדְרָ֥ע וְחָֽיִל׃

DRB ²⁴ Alors le travail de la maison de Dieu* qui est à Jérusalem cessa ; et il fut arrêté jusqu'à la seconde année du règne de Darius**, roi de Perse. ***

KJV ²⁴ Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem. So it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.

WLC ²⁴ בֵּאדַ֗יִן בְּטֵלַת֙ עֲבִידַ֣ת בֵּית־ אֱלָהָ֔א דִּ֖י בִּירוּשְׁלֶ֑ם וַהֲוָת֙ בָּֽטְלָ֔א עַ֚ד שְׁנַ֣ת תַּרְתֵּ֔ין לְמַלְכ֖וּת דָּרְיָ֥וֶשׁ מֶֽלֶךְ־ פָּרָֽס׃
