KJV ¹ In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.

KJV ² For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.

MAR ² Etant donc partis de Réphidim, ils vinrent au désert de Sinaï, et campèrent au désert ; et Israël campa vis-à-vis de la montagne.

KJV ³ And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;

WLC ³ וּמֹשֶׁ֥ה עָלָ֖ה אֶל־ הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וַיִּקְרָ֨א אֵלָ֤יו יְהוָה֙ מִן־ הָהָ֣ר לֵאמֹ֔ר כֹּ֤ה תֹאמַר֙ לְבֵ֣ית יַעֲקֹ֔ב וְתַגֵּ֖יד לִבְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ⁴ Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.

MAR ⁴ Vous avez vu ce que j'ai fait aux Egyptiens ; comment je vous ai portés [comme] sur des ailes d'aigle, et vous ai amenés à moi.

VULC ⁴ Vos ipsi vidistis quæ fecerim Ægyptiis, quomodo portaverim vos super alas aquilarum, et assumpserim mihi.

WLC ⁴ אַתֶּ֣ם רְאִיתֶ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשִׂ֖יתִי לְמִצְרָ֑יִם וָאֶשָּׂ֤א אֶתְכֶם֙ עַל־ כַּנְפֵ֣י נְשָׁרִ֔ים וָאָבִ֥א אֶתְכֶ֖ם אֵלָֽי׃

KJV ⁵ Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

MAR ⁵ Maintenant donc si vous obéissez exactement à ma voix, et si vous gardez mon alliance, vous serez aussi d'entre tous les peuples mon plus précieux joyau, quoique toute la terre m'appartienne.

VULC ⁵ Si ergo audieritis vocem meam, et custodieritis pactum meum, eritis mihi in peculium de cunctis populis : mea est enim omnis terra :

WLC ⁵ וְעַתָּ֗ה אִם־ שָׁמ֤וֹעַ תִּשְׁמְעוּ֙ בְּקֹלִ֔י וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֖ם אֶת־ בְּרִיתִ֑י וִהְיִ֨יתֶם לִ֤י סְגֻלָּה֙ מִכָּל־ הָ֣עַמִּ֔ים כִּי־ לִ֖י כָּל־ הָאָֽרֶץ׃

KJV ⁶ And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

MAR ⁶ Et vous me serez un royaume de Sacrificateurs, et une nation sainte ; ce [sont] là les discours que tu tiendras aux enfants d'Israël.

VULC ⁶ et vos eritis mihi in regnum sacerdotale, et gens sancta. Hæc sunt verba quæ loqueris ad filios Israël.

KJV ⁷ And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.

MAR ⁷ Puis Moïse vint et appela les Anciens du peuple, et proposa devant eux toutes ces choses-là que l'Eternel lui avait commandées.

VULC ⁷ Venit Moyses : et convocatis majoribus natu populi, exposuit omnes sermones quos mandaverat Dominus.

KJV ⁸ And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.

MAR ⁸ Et tout le peuple répondit d'un commun accord, en disant : nous ferons tout ce que l'Eternel a dit. Et Moïse rapporta à l'Eternel toutes les paroles du peuple.

VULC ⁸ Responditque omnis populus simul : Cuncta quæ locutus est Dominus, faciemus. Cumque retulisset Moyses verba populi ad Dominum,

KJV ⁹ And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD.

MAR ⁹ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : voici, je viendrai à toi dans une nuée épaisse, afin que le peuple entende quand je parlerai avec toi, et qu'il te croie aussi toujours ; car Moïse avait rapporté à l'Eternel les paroles du peuple.

VULC ⁹ ait ei Dominus : Jam nunc veniam ad te in caligine nubis, ut audiat me populus loquentem ad te, et credat tibi in perpetuum. Nuntiavit ergo Moyses verba populi ad Dominum.

WLC ⁹ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֗ה הִנֵּ֨ה אָנֹכִ֜י בָּ֣א אֵלֶיךָ֮ בְּעַ֣ב הֶֽעָנָן֒ בַּעֲב֞וּר יִשְׁמַ֤ע הָעָם֙ בְּדַבְּרִ֣י עִמָּ֔ךְ וְגַם־ בְּךָ֖ יַאֲמִ֣ינוּ לְעוֹלָ֑ם וַיַּגֵּ֥ד מֹשֶׁ֛ה אֶת־ דִּבְרֵ֥י הָעָ֖ם אֶל־ יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ¹⁰ And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes,

MAR ¹⁰ L'Eternel dit aussi à Moïse : va-t'en vers le peuple, et sanctifie-les aujourd'hui et demain, et qu'ils lavent leurs vêtements ;

VULC ¹⁰ Qui dixit ei : Vade ad populum, et sanctifica illos hodie, et cras, laventque vestimenta sua.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֤ה אֶל־ מֹשֶׁה֙ לֵ֣ךְ אֶל־ הָעָ֔ם וְקִדַּשְׁתָּ֥ם הַיּ֖וֹם וּמָחָ֑ר וְכִבְּס֖וּ שִׂמְלֹתָֽם׃

KJV ¹¹ And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.

MAR ¹¹ Et qu'ils soient tout prêts pour le troisième jour, car au troisième jour l'Eternel descendra sur la montagne de Sinaï, à la vue de tout le peuple.

VULC ¹¹ Et sint parati in diem tertium : in die enim tertia descendet Dominus coram omni plebe super montem Sinai.

WLC ¹¹ וְהָי֥וּ נְכֹנִ֖ים לַיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֑י כִּ֣י ׀ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֗י יֵרֵ֧ד יְהוָ֛ה לְעֵינֵ֥י כָל־ הָעָ֖ם עַל־ הַ֥ר סִינָֽי׃

KJV ¹² And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:

MAR ¹² Or tu mettras des bornes pour le peuple tout à l’entour, et tu diras : donnez-vous garde de monter sur la montagne, et de toucher aucune de ses extrémités. Quiconque touchera la montagne, sera puni de mort.

VULC ¹² Constituesque terminos populo per circuitum, et dices ad eos : Cavete ne ascendatis in montem, nec tangatis fines illius : omnis qui tetigerit montem, morte morietur.

WLC ¹² וְהִגְבַּלְתָּ֤ אֶת־ הָעָם֙ סָבִ֣יב לֵאמֹ֔ר הִשָּׁמְר֥וּ לָכֶ֛ם עֲל֥וֹת בָּהָ֖ר וּנְגֹ֣עַ בְּקָצֵ֑הוּ כָּל־ הַנֹּגֵ֥עַ בָּהָ֖ר מ֥וֹת יוּמָֽת׃

KJV ¹³ There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.

MAR ¹³ Aucune main ne la touchera ; et certainement il sera lapidé, ou percé de flèches ; soit bête, soit homme, il ne vivra point. Quand le cor sonnera en long, ils monteront vers la montagne.

VULC ¹³ Manus non tanget eum, sed lapidibus opprimetur, aut confodietur jaculis : sive jumentum fuerit, sive homo, non vivet : cum cœperit clangere buccina, tunc ascendant in montem.

KJV ¹⁴ And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.

KJV ¹⁵ And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not at your wives.

VULC ¹⁵ ait ad eos : Estote parati in diem tertium, et ne appropinquetis uxoribus vestris.

WLC ¹⁵ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־ הָעָ֔ם הֱי֥וּ נְכֹנִ֖ים לִשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת יָמִ֑ים אַֽל־ תִּגְּשׁ֖וּ אֶל־ אִשָּֽׁה׃

KJV ¹⁶ And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.

MAR ¹⁶ Et le troisième jour au matin, il y eut des tonnerres, et des éclairs, et une grosse nuée sur la montagne, avec un très-fort son de cor, dont tout le peuple dans le camp fut effrayé.

VULC ¹⁶ Jamque advenerat tertius dies, et mane inclaruerat : et ecce cœperunt audiri tonitrua, ac micare fulgura, et nubes densissima operire montem, clangorque buccinæ vehementius perstrepebat : et timuit populus qui erat in castris.

KJV ¹⁷ And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.

MAR ¹⁷ Alors Moïse fit sortir le peuple du camp pour aller au-devant de Dieu ; et ils s'arrêtèrent au pied de la montagne.

VULC ¹⁷ Cumque eduxisset eos Moyses in occursum Dei de loco castrorum, steterunt ad radices montis.

WLC ¹⁷ וַיּוֹצֵ֨א מֹשֶׁ֧ה אֶת־ הָעָ֛ם לִקְרַ֥את הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים מִן־ הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑ה וַיִּֽתְיַצְּב֖וּ בְּתַחְתִּ֥ית הָהָֽר׃

KJV ¹⁸ And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

MAR ¹⁸ Or le mont de Sinaï était tout couvert de fumée, parce que l'Eternel y était descendu en feu ; et sa fumée montait comme la fumée d'une fournaise, et toute la montagne tremblait fort.

VULC ¹⁸ Totus autem mons Sinai fumabat, eo quod descendisset Dominus super eum in igne : et ascenderet fumus ex eo quasi de fornace, eratque omnis mons terribilis.

KJV ¹⁹ And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.

MAR ¹⁹ Et comme le son du cor se renforçait de plus en plus, Moïse parla, et Dieu lui répondit par une voix.

VULC ¹⁹ Et sonitus buccinæ paulatim crescebat in majus, et prolixius tendebatur : Moyses loquebatur, et Deus respondebat ei.

KJV ²⁰ And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.

MAR ²⁰ L'Eternel donc étant descendu sur la montagne de Sinaï, au sommet de la montagne, appela Moïse au sommet de la montagne ; et Moïse y monta.

KJV ²¹ And the LORD said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.

MAR ²¹ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : descends, somme le peuple qu'ils ne rompent point [les barrières pour monter] vers l'Eternel, afin de regarder ; de peur qu'un grand nombre d'entre eux ne périsse.

VULC ²¹ dixit ad eum : Descende, et contestare populum : ne forte velit transcendere terminos ad videndum Dominum, et pereat ex eis plurima multitudo.

WLC ²¹ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֔ה רֵ֖ד הָעֵ֣ד בָּעָ֑ם פֶּן־ יֶהֶרְס֤וּ אֶל־ יְהוָה֙ לִרְא֔וֹת וְנָפַ֥ל מִמֶּ֖נּוּ רָֽב׃

KJV ²² And let the priests also, which come near to the LORD, sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.

MAR ²² Et même que les Sacrificateurs s'approchant de l'Eternel se sanctifient, de peur qu'il n'arrive que l'Eternel se jette sur eux.

VULC ²² Sacerdotes quoque qui accedunt ad Dominum, sanctificentur, ne percutiat eos.

WLC ²² וְגַ֧ם הַכֹּהֲנִ֛ים הַנִּגָּשִׁ֥ים אֶל־ יְהוָ֖ה יִתְקַדָּ֑שׁוּ פֶּן־ יִפְרֹ֥ץ בָּהֶ֖ם יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ²³ And Moses said unto the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it.

MAR ²³ Et Moïse dit à l'Eternel : le peuple ne pourra pas monter sur la montagne de Sinaï, parce que tu nous as sommés en [me] disant : mets des bornes en la montagne, et la sanctifie.

VULC ²³ Dixitque Moyses ad Dominum : Non poterit vulgus ascendere in montem Sinai : tu enim testificatus es, et jussisti, dicens : Pone terminos circa montem, et sanctifica illum.

WLC ²³ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר מֹשֶׁה֙ אֶל־ יְהוָ֔ה לֹא־ יוּכַ֣ל הָעָ֔ם לַעֲלֹ֖ת אֶל־ הַ֣ר סִינָ֑י כִּֽי־ אַתָּ֞ה הַעֵדֹ֤תָה בָּ֙נוּ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר הַגְבֵּ֥ל אֶת־ הָהָ֖ר וְקִדַּשְׁתּֽוֹ׃

KJV ²⁴ And the LORD said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the LORD, lest he break forth upon them.

MAR ²⁴ Et l'Eternel lui dit : va, descends ; puis tu monteras, toi et Aaron avec toi ; mais que les Sacrificateurs et le peuple ne rompent point [les bornes] pour monter vers l'Eternel, de peur qu'il n'arrive qu'il se jette sur eux.

VULC ²⁴ Cui ait Dominus : Vade, descende : ascendesque tu, et Aaron tecum : sacerdotes autem et populus ne transeant terminos, nec ascendant ad Dominum, ne forte interficiat illos.

WLC ²⁴ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֤יו יְהוָה֙ לֶךְ־ רֵ֔ד וְעָלִ֥יתָ אַתָּ֖ה וְאַהֲרֹ֣ן עִמָּ֑ךְ וְהַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים וְהָעָ֗ם אַל־ יֶֽהֶרְס֛וּ לַעֲלֹ֥ת אֶל־ יְהוָ֖ה פֶּן־ יִפְרָץ־ בָּֽם׃

KJV ²⁵ So Moses went down unto the people, and spake unto them.
