BAN ¹ La parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée en ces mots :

KJV ¹ And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

VULC ¹ Et factus est sermo Domini ad me, dicens :

BAN ² Fils d'homme, que vaut le bois de la vigne plus que tout autre bois, le sarment qui est parmi les arbres de la forêt ?

KJV ² Son of man, what is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest?

VULC ² [Fili hominis, quid fiet de ligno vitis,
ex omnibus lignis nemorum
quæ sunt inter ligna silvarum ?

BAN ³ En prend-on du bois pour en fabriquer quelque ouvrage ? En tire-t-on une cheville pour y suspendre quelque objet ?

KJV ³ Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?

VULC ³ numquid tolletur de ea lignum ut fiat opus,
aut fabricabitur de ea paxillus
ut dependeat in eo quodcumque vas ?

BAN ⁴ Voici, on le met au feu pour le consumer ; le feu en consume les deux bouts, et le milieu brûle. Servira-t-il à quelque usage ?

KJV ⁴ Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned. Is it meet for any work?

VULC ⁴ Ecce igni datum est in escam :
utramque partem ejus consumpsit ignis,
et medietas ejus redacta est in favillam :
numquid utile erit ad opus ?

BAN ⁵ Voici, quand il était entier, on n'en fabriquait aucun ouvrage ; combien moins, quand le feu l'a consumé et brûlé, en fabriquerait-on quelque ouvrage ?

KJV ⁵ Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less shall it be meet yet for any work, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned?

VULC ⁵ Etiam cum esset integrum,
non erat aptum ad opus :
quanto magis cum illud ignis devoraverit et combusserit,
nihil ex eo fiet operis ?

BAN ⁶ C'est pourquoi le Seigneur l'Eternel parle ainsi : Tel qu'est parmi les arbres de la forêt le bois de la vigne que je livre au feu pour le consumer, tels j'ai livré les habitants de Jérusalem.

KJV ⁶ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

VULC ⁶ Propterea hæc dicit Dominus Deus :
Quomodo lignum vitis inter ligna silvarum,
quod dedi igni ad devorandum,
sic tradam habitatores Jerusalem.

BAN ⁷ Je tournerai ma face contre eux. Ils ont échappé au feu et le feu les consumera, et vous saurez que je suis l'Eternel quand je tournerai ma face contre eux.

KJV ⁷ And I will set my face against them; they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I set my face against them.

VULC ⁷ Et ponam faciem meam in eos :
de igne egredientur,
et ignis consumet eos :
et scietis quia ego Dominus,
cum posuero faciem meam in eos,

BAN ⁸ Et je ferai du pays un désert, parce qu'ils se sont montrés infidèles, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel.

KJV ⁸ And I will make the land desolate, because they have committed a trespass, saith the Lord GOD.

VULC ⁸ et dedero terram inviam et desolatam,
eo quod prævaricatores extiterint,
dicit Dominus Deus.]
