KJV ² Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel;

S21 ² «Fils de l'homme, propose une énigme, raconte une parabole à la communauté d'Israël!

VULC ² Fili hominis, propone ænigma, et narra parabolam ad domum Israël,

WLC ² בֶּן־ אָדָ֕ם ח֥וּד חִידָ֖ה וּמְשֹׁ֣ל מָשָׁ֑ל אֶל־ בֵּ֖ית יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ³ And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had divers colours, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar:

S21 ³ Tu annonceras: ‘Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel:
»Un grand aigle, d'une grande envergure, aux longues ailes,
couvert de plumes de toutes les couleurs,
vint sur le Liban et enleva la cime d'un cèdre.

VULC ³ et dices : Hæc dicit Dominus Deus : Aquila grandis magnarum alarum, longo membrorum ductu, plena plumis et varietate, venit ad Libanum, et tulit medullam cedri.

WLC ³ וְאָמַרְתָּ֞ כֹּה־ אָמַ֣ר ׀ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֗ה הַנֶּ֤שֶׁר הַגָּדוֹל֙ גְּד֤וֹל הַכְּנָפַ֙יִם֙ אֶ֣רֶךְ הָאֵ֔בֶר מָלֵא֙ הַנּוֹצָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־ ל֖וֹ הָֽרִקְמָ֑ה בָּ֚א אֶל־ הַלְּבָנ֔וֹן וַיִּקַּ֖ח אֶת־ צַמֶּ֥רֶת הָאָֽרֶז׃

KJV ⁴ He cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried it into a land of traffick; he set it in a city of merchants.

S21 ⁴ Il arracha la plus haute de ses branches,
l'emporta dans un pays de marchands
et la déposa dans une ville de commerçants.

VULC ⁴ Summitatem frondium ejus avulsit, et transportavit eam in terram Chanaan : in urbe negotiatorum posuit illam.

WLC ⁴ אֵ֛ת רֹ֥אשׁ יְנִֽיקוֹתָ֖יו קָטָ֑ף וַיְבִיאֵ֙הוּ֙ אֶל־ אֶ֣רֶץ כְּנַ֔עַן בְּעִ֥יר רֹכְלִ֖ים שָׂמֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁵ He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree.

S21 ⁵ Il prit un plant du pays
et le plaça dans un terrain fertile.
Il le mit près d'une eau abondante
et le planta comme un saule.

VULC ⁵ Et tulit de semine terræ, et posuit illud in terra pro semine, ut firmaret radicem super aquas multas : in superficie posuit illud.

WLC ⁵ וַיִּקַּח֙ מִזֶּ֣רַע הָאָ֔רֶץ וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖הוּ בִּשְׂדֵה־ זָ֑רַע קָ֚ח עַל־ מַ֣יִם רַבִּ֔ים צַפְצָפָ֖ה שָׂמֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁶ And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.

S21 ⁶ Ce rejeton poussa et devint un cep de vigne
qui prenait de l'ampleur mais restait bas.
Ses branches étaient tournées vers l'aigle
et ses racines étaient sous lui.
Il devint un cep de vigne,
donna des pousses et produisit des rameaux.

VULC ⁶ Cumque germinasset, crevit in vineam latiorem, humili statura, respicientibus ramis ejus ad eam, et radices ejus sub illa erant : facta est ergo vinea, et fructificavit in palmites, et emisit propagines.

WLC ⁶ וַיִּצְמַ֡ח וַיְהִי֩ לְגֶ֨פֶן סֹרַ֜חַת שִׁפְלַ֣ת קוֹמָ֗ה לִפְנ֤וֹת דָּלִיּוֹתָיו֙ אֵלָ֔יו וְשָׁרָשָׁ֖יו תַּחְתָּ֣יו יִֽהְי֑וּ וַתְּהִ֣י לְגֶ֔פֶן וַתַּ֣עַשׂ בַּדִּ֔ים וַתְּשַׁלַּ֖ח פֹּארֽוֹת׃

KJV ⁷ There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots toward him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her plantation.

S21 ⁷ »Puis il y eut un autre grand aigle,
de grande envergure, au plumage épais.
De la terrasse où elle était plantée,
cette vigne dirigea ses racines de son côté
et tendit ses branches vers lui pour qu'il l'arrose.

VULC ⁷ Et facta est aquila altera grandis, magnis alis, multisque plumis : et ecce vinea ista quasi mittens radices suas ad eam, palmites suos extendit ad illam, ut irrigaret eam de areolis germinis sui.

WLC ⁷ וַיְהִ֤י נֶֽשֶׁר־ אֶחָד֙ גָּד֔וֹל גְּד֥וֹל כְּנָפַ֖יִם וְרַב־ נוֹצָ֑ה וְהִנֵּה֩ הַגֶּ֨פֶן הַזֹּ֜את כָּֽפְנָ֧ה שָׁרֳשֶׁ֣יהָ עָלָ֗יו וְדָֽלִיּוֹתָיו֙ שִׁלְחָה־ לּ֔וֹ לְהַשְׁק֣וֹת אוֹתָ֔הּ מֵעֲרֻג֖וֹת מַטָּעָֽהּ׃

KJV ⁸ It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.

S21 ⁸ Elle était pourtant plantée dans un bon terrain,
près d'une eau abondante,
de manière à produire des sarments et à porter du fruit
pour devenir une vigne magnifique.'

VULC ⁸ In terra bona super aquas multas plantata est, ut faciat frondes, et portet fructum, ut sit in vineam grandem.

WLC ⁸ אֶל־ שָׂ֥דֶה טּ֛וֹב אֶל־ מַ֥יִם רַבִּ֖ים הִ֣יא שְׁתוּלָ֑ה לַעֲשׂ֤וֹת עָנָף֙ וְלָשֵׂ֣את פֶּ֔רִי לִהְי֖וֹת לְגֶ֥פֶן אַדָּֽרֶת׃

KJV ⁹ Say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it wither? it shall wither in all the leaves of her spring, even without great power or many people to pluck it up by the roots thereof.

S21 ⁹ »Annonce: ‘Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel:
Prospérera-t-elle?
Le premier aigle ne va-t-il pas arracher ses racines,
la dépouiller de son fruit
et dessécher toutes ses jeunes pousses? Elle se desséchera
et il ne faudra ni beaucoup de force
ni un peuple nombreux
pour la déraciner.

VULC ⁹ Dic : Hæc dicit Dominus Deus : Ergone prosperabitur ? nonne radices ejus evellet, et fructus ejus distringet, et siccabit omnes palmites germinis ejus, et arescet, et non in brachio grandi, neque in populo multo, ut evelleret eam radicitus ?

WLC ⁹ אֱמֹ֗ר כֹּ֥ה אָמַ֛ר אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהֹוִ֖ה תִּצְלָ֑ח הֲלוֹא֩ אֶת־ שָׁרָשֶׁ֨יהָ יְנַתֵּ֜ק וְאֶת־ פִּרְיָ֣הּ ׀ יְקוֹסֵ֣ס וְיָבֵ֗שׁ כָּל־ טַרְפֵּ֤י צִמְחָהּ֙ תִּיבָ֔שׁ וְלֹֽא־ בִזְרֹ֤עַ גְּדוֹלָה֙ וּבְעַם־ רָ֔ב לְמַשְׂא֥וֹת אוֹתָ֖הּ מִשָּׁרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃

KJV ¹⁰ Yea, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind toucheth it? it shall wither in the furrows where it grew.

S21 ¹⁰ Oui, elle a été plantée, mais prospérera-t-elle?
Quand le vent d'est l'atteindra,
ne séchera-t-elle pas?
Elle séchera sur la terrasse où elle a poussé.'»

VULC ¹⁰ Ecce plantata est : ergone prosperabitur ? nonne, cum tetigerit eam ventus urens, siccabitur, et in areis germinis sui arescet ?

WLC ¹⁰ וְהִנֵּ֥ה שְׁתוּלָ֖ה הֲתִצְלָ֑ח הֲלוֹא֩ כְגַ֨עַת בָּ֜הּ ר֤וּחַ הַקָּדִים֙ תִּיבַ֣שׁ יָבֹ֔שׁ עַל־ עֲרֻגֹ֥ת צִמְחָ֖הּ תִּיבָֽשׁ׃

KJV ¹¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

WLC ¹¹ וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־ יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃

KJV ¹² Say now to the rebellious house, Know ye not what these things mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon is come to Jerusalem, and hath taken the king thereof, and the princes thereof, and led them with him to Babylon;

S21 ¹² «Dis à cette communauté de rebelles: ‘Ne savez-vous pas ce que cela signifie?' Explique-leur: ‘Le roi de Babylone est venu à Jérusalem, il a capturé son roi et ses chefs et les a emmenés avec lui à Babylone.

VULC ¹² Dic ad domum exasperantem : Nescitis quid ista significent ? Dic : Ecce venit rex Babylonis in Jerusalem, et assumet regem et principes ejus, et adducet eos ad semetipsum in Babylonem.

WLC ¹² אֱמָר־ נָא֙ לְבֵ֣ית הַמֶּ֔רִי הֲלֹ֥א יְדַעְתֶּ֖ם מָה־ אֵ֑לֶּה אֱמֹ֗ר הִנֵּה־ בָ֨א מֶֽלֶךְ־ בָּבֶ֤ל יְרוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ וַיִּקַּ֤ח אֶת־ מַלְכָּהּ֙ וְאֶת־ שָׂרֶ֔יהָ וַיָּבֵ֥א אוֹתָ֛ם אֵלָ֖יו בָּבֶֽלָה׃

KJV ¹³ And hath taken of the king's seed, and made a covenant with him, and hath taken an oath of him: he hath also taken the mighty of the land:

S21 ¹³ Il a choisi un homme de sang royal, a conclu une alliance avec lui et lui a fait prêter serment. Puis il a emmené les grands du pays

VULC ¹³ Et tollet de semine regni, ferietque cum eo fœdus, et ab eo accipiet jusjurandum. Sed et fortes terræ tollet,

WLC ¹³ וַיִּקַּח֙ מִזֶּ֣רַע הַמְּלוּכָ֔ה וַיִּכְרֹ֥ת אִתּ֖וֹ בְּרִ֑ית וַיָּבֵ֤א אֹתוֹ֙ בְּאָלָ֔ה וְאֶת־ אֵילֵ֥י הָאָ֖רֶץ לָקָֽח׃

KJV ¹⁴ That the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping of his covenant it might stand.

S21 ¹⁴ pour que le royaume reste fragile et ne puisse pas se relever. Ainsi, il serait obligé de respecter son alliance pour se maintenir.

VULC ¹⁴ ut sit regnum humile, et non elevetur, sed custodiat pactum ejus, et servet illud.

WLC ¹⁴ לִֽהְיוֹת֙ מַמְלָכָ֣ה שְׁפָלָ֔ה לְבִלְתִּ֖י הִתְנַשֵּׂ֑א לִשְׁמֹ֥ר אֶת־ בְּרִית֖וֹ לְעָמְדָֽהּ׃

KJV ¹⁵ But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? or shall he break the covenant, and be delivered?

S21 ¹⁵ Cependant, le nouveau roi s'est révolté contre lui en envoyant ses messagers en Egypte pour se procurer des chevaux et un grand nombre d'hommes. Celui qui s'est permis d'agir de cette manière pourra-t-il arriver à ses fins? Pourra-t-il s'en sortir? Il a violé une alliance et il s'en sortirait?'

VULC ¹⁵ Qui recedens ab eo misit nuntios ad Ægyptum, ut daret sibi equos et populum multum : numquid prosperabitur, vel consequetur salutem, qui fecit hæc ? et qui dissolvit pactum, numquid effugiet ?

WLC ¹⁵ וַיִּמְרָד־ בּ֗וֹ לִשְׁלֹ֤חַ מַלְאָכָיו֙ מִצְרַ֔יִם לָֽתֶת־ ל֥וֹ סוּסִ֖ים וְעַם־ רָ֑ב הֲיִצְלָ֤ח הֲיִמָּלֵט֙ הָעֹשֵׂ֣ה אֵ֔לֶּה וְהֵפֵ֥ר בְּרִ֖ית וְנִמְלָֽט׃

KJV ¹⁶ As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.

S21 ¹⁶ »Aussi vrai que je suis vivant, déclare le Seigneur, l'Eternel, il mourra au milieu de Babylone, chez le roi qui l'avait mis sur le trône, puisqu'il a ignoré son engagement envers lui et a violé son alliance avec lui.

VULC ¹⁶ Vivo ego, dicit Dominus Deus, quoniam in loco regis qui constituit eum regem, cujus fecit irritum juramentum, et solvit pactum quod habebat cum eo, in medio Babylonis morietur.

WLC ¹⁶ חַי־ אָ֗נִי נְאֻם֮ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִה֒ אִם־ לֹ֗א בִּמְקוֹם֙ הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ הַמַּמְלִ֣יךְ אֹת֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֤ר בָּזָה֙ אֶת־ אָ֣לָת֔וֹ וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר הֵפֵ֖ר אֶת־ בְּרִית֑וֹ אִתּ֥וֹ בְתוֹךְ־ בָּבֶ֖ל יָמֽוּת׃

KJV ¹⁷ Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company make for him in the war, by casting up mounts, and building forts, to cut off many persons:

S21 ¹⁷ Le pharaon ne pourra rien faire pour lui au moment du combat, malgré sa grande armée et sa population nombreuse, quand on mettra en place des remblais et qu'on construira des retranchements pour éliminer un grand nombre de vies.

VULC ¹⁷ Et non in exercitu grandi, neque in populo multo, faciet contra eum Pharao prælium : in jactu aggeris, et in exstructione vallorum, ut interficiat animas multas.

WLC ¹⁷ וְלֹא֩ בְחַ֨יִל גָּד֜וֹל וּבְקָהָ֣ל רָ֗ב יַעֲשֶׂ֨ה אוֹת֤וֹ פַרְעֹה֙ בַּמִּלְחָמָ֔ה בִּשְׁפֹּ֥ךְ סֹלְלָ֖ה וּבִבְנ֣וֹת דָּיֵ֑ק לְהַכְרִ֖ית נְפָשׁ֥וֹת רַבּֽוֹת׃

KJV ¹⁸ Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and hath done all these things, he shall not escape.

S21 ¹⁸ Il a ignoré un engagement en violant l'alliance. Alors qu'il avait donné sa main, il s'est permis d'agir de cette manière. Il ne s'en sortira pas!

VULC ¹⁸ Spreverat enim juramentum, ut solveret fœdus, et ecce dedit manum suam : et cum omnia hæc fecerit, non effugiet.

WLC ¹⁸ וּבָזָ֥ה אָלָ֖ה לְהָפֵ֣ר בְּרִ֑ית וְהִנֵּ֨ה נָתַ֥ן יָד֛וֹ וְכָל־ אֵ֥לֶּה עָשָׂ֖ה לֹ֥א יִמָּלֵֽט׃

KJV ¹⁹ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, even it will I recompense upon his own head.

S21 ¹⁹ C'est pourquoi, voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Aussi vrai que je suis vivant, c'est un engagement pris en mon nom qu'il a ignoré, c'est mon alliance qu'il a violée. Je ferai retomber cela sur sa tête.

VULC ¹⁹ Propterea hæc dicit Dominus Deus : Vivo ego, quoniam juramentum quod sprevit, et fœdus quod prævaricatus est, ponam in caput ejus.

WLC ¹⁹ לָכֵ֞ן כֹּה־ אָמַ֨ר אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִה֮ חַי־ אָנִי֒ אִם־ לֹ֗א אָֽלָתִי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּזָ֔ה וּבְרִיתִ֖י אֲשֶׁ֣ר הֵפִ֑יר וּנְתַתִּ֖יו בְּרֹאשֽׁוֹ׃

KJV ²⁰ And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will plead with him there for his trespass that he hath trespassed against me.

S21 ²⁰ J'étendrai mon piège sur lui et il sera pris dans mon filet. Je l'emmènerai à Babylone et là, je le ferai passer en jugement pour son infidélité envers moi.

VULC ²⁰ Et expandam super eum rete meum, et comprehendetur in sagena mea : et adducam eum in Babylonem, et judicabo eum ibi in prævaricatione qua despexit me.

WLC ²⁰ וּפָרַשְׂתִּ֤י עָלָיו֙ רִשְׁתִּ֔י וְנִתְפַּ֖שׂ בִּמְצֽוּדָתִ֑י וַהֲבִיאוֹתִ֣יהוּ בָבֶ֗לָה וְנִשְׁפַּטְתִּ֤י אִתּוֹ֙ שָׁ֔ם מַעֲל֖וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר מָֽעַל־ בִּֽי׃

KJV ²¹ And all his fugitives with all his bands shall fall by the sword, and they that remain shall be scattered toward all winds: and ye shall know that I the LORD have spoken it.

S21 ²¹ Tous ses fugitifs, dans toutes ses troupes, tomberont par l'épée, et ceux qui resteront seront éparpillés à tout vent. Vous reconnaîtrez alors que c'est moi, l'Eternel, qui ai parlé.

VULC ²¹ Et omnes profugi ejus, cum universo agmine suo, gladio cadent : residui autem in omnem ventum dispergentur : et scietis quia ego Dominus locutus sum.

WLC ²¹ וְאֵ֨ת כָּל־ בְּכָל־ אֲגַפָּיו֙ בַּחֶ֣רֶב יִפֹּ֔לוּ וְהַנִּשְׁאָרִ֖ים לְכָל־ ר֣וּחַ יִפָּרֵ֑שׂוּ וִידַעְתֶּ֕ם כִּ֛י אֲנִ֥י יְהוָ֖ה דִּבַּֽרְתִּי׃

KJV ²² Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent:

S21 ²² »Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel: J'enlèverai moi-même une pousse de la cime du cèdre majestueux et je la déplacerai. J'arracherai du sommet de ses jeunes branches une pousse délicate et je la planterai sur une montagne particulièrement haute.

VULC ²² Hæc dicit Dominus Deus : Et sumam ego de medulla cedri sublimis, et ponam : de vertice ramorum ejus tenerum distringam, et plantabo super montem excelsum et eminentem.

WLC ²² כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה וְלָקַ֣חְתִּי אָ֗נִי מִצַּמֶּ֧רֶת הָאֶ֛רֶז הָרָמָ֖ה וְנָתָ֑תִּי מֵרֹ֤אשׁ יֹֽנְקוֹתָיו֙ רַ֣ךְ אֶקְטֹ֔ף וְשָׁתַ֣לְתִּי אָ֔נִי עַ֥ל הַר־ גָּבֹ֖הַ וְתָלֽוּל׃

KJV ²³ In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell.

S21 ²³ Je la planterai sur une haute montagne d'Israël. Elle portera des branches et produira des fruits, elle deviendra un cèdre magnifique. Toutes sortes d'oiseaux y feront leur nid, tout ce qui a des ailes s'abritera dans ses branches.

VULC ²³ In monte sublimi Israël plantabo illud, et erumpet in germen, et faciet fructum, et erit in cedrum magnam : et habitabunt sub ea omnes volucres, et universum volatile sub umbra frondium ejus nidificabit :

WLC ²³ בְּהַ֨ר מְר֤וֹם יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֶשְׁתֳּלֶ֔נּוּ וְנָשָׂ֤א עָנָף֙ וְעָ֣שָׂה פֶ֔רִי וְהָיָ֖ה לְאֶ֣רֶז אַדִּ֑יר וְשָׁכְנ֣וּ תַחְתָּ֗יו כֹּ֚ל צִפּ֣וֹר כָּל־ כָּנָ֔ף בְּצֵ֥ל דָּלִיּוֹתָ֖יו תִּשְׁכֹּֽנָּה׃

KJV ²⁴ And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it.

S21 ²⁴ Tous les arbres des champs reconnaîtront alors que c'est moi, l'Eternel, qui ai abaissé l'arbre qui s'élevait et élevé l'arbre qui était abaissé, qui ai desséché l'arbre vert et fait verdir l'arbre sec. Moi, l'Eternel, j'ai parlé, et j'agirai.»

VULC ²⁴ et scient omnia ligna regionis quia ego Dominus humiliavi lignum sublime, et exaltavi lignum humile ; et siccavi lignum viride, et frondere feci lignum aridum. Ego Dominus locutus sum, et feci.

WLC ²⁴ וְֽיָדְע֞וּ כָּל־ עֲצֵ֣י הַשָּׂדֶ֗ה כִּ֣י אֲנִ֤י יְהוָה֙ הִשְׁפַּ֣לְתִּי ׀ עֵ֣ץ גָּבֹ֗הַ הִגְבַּ֙הְתִּי֙ עֵ֣ץ שָׁפָ֔ל הוֹבַ֙שְׁתִּי֙ עֵ֣ץ לָ֔ח וְהִפְרַ֖חְתִּי עֵ֣ץ יָבֵ֑שׁ אֲנִ֥י יְהוָ֖ה דִּבַּ֥רְתִּי וְעָשִֽׂיתִי׃
