BAN ²⁰ Et l'Eternel dit : Le cri qui s'élève de Sodome et Gomorrhe est bien fort et leur iniquité bien énorme.

KJV ²⁰ And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;

WLC ²⁰ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֔ה זַעֲקַ֛ת סְדֹ֥ם וַעֲמֹרָ֖ה כִּי־ רָ֑בָּה וְחַ֨טָּאתָ֔ם כִּ֥י כָבְדָ֖ה מְאֹֽד׃

BAN ²¹ Je veux descendre et voir si, comme le bruit en est venu jusqu'à moi, leur crime est arrivé au comble ; ou si cela n'est pas, je veux le savoir.

KJV ²¹ I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.

WLC ²¹ אֵֽרֲדָה־ נָּ֣א וְאֶרְאֶ֔ה הַכְּצַעֲקָתָ֛הּ הַבָּ֥אָה אֵלַ֖י עָשׂ֣וּ ׀ כָּלָ֑ה וְאִם־ לֹ֖א אֵדָֽעָה׃

BAN ²² Et ces hommes partirent et s'en allèrent à Sodome ; et Abraham se tenait encore devant l'Eternel.

KJV ²² And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.

WLC ²² וַיִּפְנ֤וּ מִשָּׁם֙ הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים וַיֵּלְכ֖וּ סְדֹ֑מָה וְאַ֨בְרָהָ֔ם עוֹדֶ֥נּוּ עֹמֵ֖ד לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

BAN ²³ Et Abraham s'approcha et dit : Est-ce que vraiment tu ferais périr le juste avec le coupable ?

KJV ²³ And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?

WLC ²³ וַיִּגַּ֥שׁ אַבְרָהָ֖ם וַיֹּאמַ֑ר הַאַ֣ף תִּסְפֶּ֔ה צַדִּ֖יק עִם־ רָשָֽׁע׃

BAN ²⁴ Peut-être y a-t-il cinquante justes dans la ville ; les ferais-tu donc périr et ne pardonnerais-tu pas à ce lieu à cause de ces cinquante justes qui s'y trouveraient ?

KJV ²⁴ Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?

WLC ²⁴ אוּלַ֥י יֵ֛שׁ חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים צַדִּיקִ֖ם בְּת֣וֹךְ הָעִ֑יר הַאַ֤ף תִּסְפֶּה֙ וְלֹא־ תִשָּׂ֣א לַמָּק֔וֹם לְמַ֛עַן חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים הַצַּדִּיקִ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּקִרְבָּֽהּ׃

BAN ²⁵ Loin de toi d'agir de la sorte, de faire mourir le juste avec le coupable ! Ainsi il en serait du juste comme du coupable ! Loin de toi ! Celui qui juge toute la terre ne rendrait-il pas justice ?

KJV ²⁵ That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

WLC ²⁵ חָלִ֨לָה לְּךָ֜ מֵעֲשֹׂ֣ת ׀ כַּדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֗ה לְהָמִ֤ית צַדִּיק֙ עִם־ רָשָׁ֔ע וְהָיָ֥ה כַצַּדִּ֖יק כָּרָשָׁ֑ע חָלִ֣לָה לָּ֔ךְ הֲשֹׁפֵט֙ כָּל־ הָאָ֔רֶץ לֹ֥א יַעֲשֶׂ֖ה מִשְׁפָּֽט׃

BAN ²⁶ Et l'Eternel dit : Si je trouve à Sodome cinquante justes, au milieu de la ville, je pardonnerai à tout le lieu pour l'amour d'eux.

KJV ²⁶ And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.

WLC ²⁶ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֔ה אִם־ אֶמְצָ֥א בִסְדֹ֛ם חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים צַדִּיקִ֖ם בְּת֣וֹךְ הָעִ֑יר וְנָשָׂ֥אתִי לְכָל־ הַמָּק֖וֹם בַּעֲבוּרָֽם׃

BAN ²⁷ Et Abraham reprit : Voilà que j'en suis venu à parler au Seigneur, moi qui suis poudre et cendre.

KJV ²⁷ And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the LORD, which am but dust and ashes:

WLC ²⁷ וַיַּ֥עַן אַבְרָהָ֖ם וַיֹּאמַ֑ר הִנֵּה־ נָ֤א הוֹאַ֙לְתִּי֙ לְדַבֵּ֣ר אֶל־ אֲדֹנָ֔י וְאָנֹכִ֖י עָפָ֥ר וָאֵֽפֶר׃

BAN ²⁸ Peut-être que des cinquante justes il en manquera cinq. Détruiras-tu pour cinq hommes toute la ville ? Et il dit : Je ne la détruirai pas si j'en trouve quarante-cinq.

KJV ²⁸ Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.

WLC ²⁸ א֠וּלַי יַחְסְר֞וּן חֲמִשִּׁ֤ים הַצַּדִּיקִם֙ חֲמִשָּׁ֔ה הֲתַשְׁחִ֥ית בַּחֲמִשָּׁ֖ה אֶת־ כָּל־ הָעִ֑יר וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ לֹ֣א אַשְׁחִ֔ית אִם־ אֶמְצָ֣א שָׁ֔ם אַרְבָּעִ֖ים וַחֲמִשָּֽׁה׃

BAN ²⁹ Et Abraham continua encore à lui parler ; il lui dit : Peut-être s'en trouvera-t-il là quarante. Et il dit : Je ne le ferai pas pour l'amour des quarante.

KJV ²⁹ And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake.

WLC ²⁹ וַיֹּ֨סֶף ע֜וֹד לְדַבֵּ֤ר אֵלָיו֙ וַיֹּאמַ֔ר אוּלַ֛י יִמָּצְא֥וּן שָׁ֖ם אַרְבָּעִ֑ים וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ לֹ֣א אֶֽעֱשֶׂ֔ה בַּעֲב֖וּר הָאַרְבָּעִֽים׃

BAN ³⁰ Et Abraham dit : Que le Seigneur veuille ne pas s'irriter si je parle ! Peut-être s'en trouvera-t-il trente. Et il dit : Je ne le ferai pas si j'y en trouve trente.

KJV ³⁰ And he said unto him, Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.

WLC ³⁰ וַ֠יֹּאמֶר אַל־ נָ֞א יִ֤חַר לַֽאדֹנָי֙ וַאֲדַבֵּ֔רָה אוּלַ֛י יִמָּצְא֥וּן שָׁ֖ם שְׁלֹשִׁ֑ים וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ לֹ֣א אֶֽעֱשֶׂ֔ה אִם־ אֶמְצָ֥א שָׁ֖ם שְׁלֹשִֽׁים׃

BAN ³¹ Et Abraham dit : Voilà que j'en suis venu à parler au Seigneur. Peut-être s'en trouvera-t-il vingt. Et il dit : Je ne la détruirai pas pour l'amour des vingt.

KJV ³¹ And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the LORD: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake.

WLC ³¹ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר הִנֵּֽה־ נָ֤א הוֹאַ֙לְתִּי֙ לְדַבֵּ֣ר אֶל־ אֲדֹנָ֔י אוּלַ֛י יִמָּצְא֥וּן שָׁ֖ם עֶשְׂרִ֑ים וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ לֹ֣א אַשְׁחִ֔ית בַּעֲב֖וּר הָֽעֶשְׂרִֽים׃

BAN ³² Et Abraham dit : Que le Seigneur veuille ne pas s'irriter, et je parlerai encore cette seule fois : Peut-être s'en trouvera-t-il dix. Et il dit : Je ne la détruirai pas pour l'amour des dix.

KJV ³² And he said, Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.

WLC ³² וַ֠יֹּאמֶר אַל־ נָ֞א יִ֤חַר לַֽאדֹנָי֙ וַאֲדַבְּרָ֣ה אַךְ־ הַפַּ֔עַם אוּלַ֛י יִמָּצְא֥וּן שָׁ֖ם עֲשָׂרָ֑ה וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ לֹ֣א אַשְׁחִ֔ית בַּעֲב֖וּר הָעֲשָׂרָֽה׃

BAN ³³ Et l'Eternel s'en alla quand il eut achevé de parler à Abraham, et Abraham retourna chez lui.

KJV ³³ And the LORD went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.

WLC ³³ וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ יְהוָ֔ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר כִּלָּ֔ה לְדַבֵּ֖ר אֶל־ אַבְרָהָ֑ם וְאַבְרָהָ֖ם שָׁ֥ב לִמְקֹמֽוֹ׃
