KJV ¹ Then Jacob went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east.

KJV ² And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well's mouth.

MAR ² Et il regarda, et voici un puits dans un champ, et là-même trois troupeaux de brebis couchées près du puits (car on y abreuvait les troupeaux,) et il y avait une grosse pierre sur l'ouverture du puits.

S21 ² Il regarda: il y avait un puits dans les champs et, à côté, trois troupeaux de brebis qui se reposaient, car c'était à ce puits qu'on faisait boire les troupeaux. La pierre placée sur l'ouverture du puits était grande.

WLC ² וַיַּ֞רְא וְהִנֵּ֧ה בְאֵ֣ר בַּשָּׂדֶ֗ה וְהִנֵּה־ שָׁ֞ם שְׁלֹשָׁ֤ה עֶדְרֵי־ צֹאן֙ רֹבְצִ֣ים עָלֶ֔יהָ כִּ֚י מִן־ הַבְּאֵ֣ר הַהִ֔וא יַשְׁק֖וּ הָעֲדָרִ֑ים וְהָאֶ֥בֶן גְּדֹלָ֖ה עַל־ פִּ֥י הַבְּאֵֽר׃

KJV ³ And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well's mouth in his place.

MAR ³ Et quand tous les troupeaux étaient là assemblés, on roulait la pierre de dessus l'ouverture du puits, et on abreuvait les troupeaux ; et ensuite on remettait la pierre en son lieu, sur l'ouverture du puits.

KJV ⁴ And Jacob said unto them, My brethren, whence be ye? And they said, Of Haran are we.

MAR ⁴ Et Jacob leur dit : Mes frères, d'où êtes-vous ? Ils répondirent : Nous sommes de Caran.

S21 ⁴ Jacob demanda aux bergers: «Mes frères, d'où êtes-vous?» Ils répondirent: «Nous sommes de Charan.»

WLC ⁴ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לָהֶם֙ יַעֲקֹ֔ב אַחַ֖י מֵאַ֣יִן אַתֶּ֑ם וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ מֵחָרָ֖ן אֲנָֽחְנוּ׃

KJV ⁵ And he said unto them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him.

MAR ⁵ Et il leur dit : Ne connaissez-vous point Laban fils de Nacor ? Et ils répondirent : Nous le connaissons.

S21 ⁵ Il leur demanda: «Connaissez-vous Laban, le petit-fils de Nachor?» Ils répondirent: «Nous le connaissons.»

WLC ⁵ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָהֶ֔ם הַיְדַעְתֶּ֖ם אֶת־ לָבָ֣ן בֶּן־ נָח֑וֹר וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ יָדָֽעְנוּ׃

KJV ⁶ And he said unto them, Is he well? And they said, He is well: and, behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep.

MAR ⁶ Il leur dit : Se porte-t-il bien ? Ils lui répondirent : Il se porte bien ; et voilà Rachel sa fille, qui vient avec le troupeau.

S21 ⁶ Il leur demanda: «Est-il en bonne santé?» Ils répondirent: «Il est en bonne santé, et voici sa fille Rachel qui arrive avec le troupeau.»

WLC ⁶ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר לָהֶ֖ם הֲשָׁל֣וֹם ל֑וֹ וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ שָׁל֔וֹם וְהִנֵּה֙ רָחֵ֣ל בִּתּ֔וֹ בָּאָ֖ה עִם־ הַצֹּֽאן׃

KJV ⁷ And he said, Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go and feed them.

MAR ⁷ Et il dit : Voilà, il est encore grand jour, il n'est pas temps de retirer les troupeaux ; abreuvez les troupeaux, et ramenez-les paître.

S21 ⁷ Il dit: «Il fait encore grand jour, ce n'est pas le moment de rassembler les troupeaux. Faites boire les brebis, puis allez les faire brouter!»

WLC ⁷ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר הֵ֥ן עוֹד֙ הַיּ֣וֹם גָּד֔וֹל לֹא־ עֵ֖ת הֵאָסֵ֣ף הַמִּקְנֶ֑ה הַשְׁק֥וּ הַצֹּ֖אן וּלְכ֥וּ רְעֽוּ׃

KJV ⁸ And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and till they roll the stone from the well's mouth; then we water the sheep.

MAR ⁸ Ils répondirent : Nous ne le pouvons point jusqu'à ce que tous les troupeaux soient assemblés, et qu'on ait oté la pierre de dessus l'ouverture du puits, afin d'abreuver les troupeaux.

S21 ⁸ Ils répondirent: «Nous ne pouvons pas le faire tant que tous les troupeaux ne sont pas rassemblés. C'est à ce moment-là qu'on roule la pierre de dessus l'ouverture du puits et qu'on fait boire les brebis.»

KJV ¹³ And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.

MAR ¹³ Et il arriva qu'aussitôt que Laban eut appris des nouvelles de Jacob fils de sa soeur, il courut au-devant de lui, l'embrassa, et le baisa, et le fit venir dans sa maison ; et [Jacob] récita à Laban tout ce [qui lui était arrivé].

S21 ¹³ Dès que Laban eut entendu parler de Jacob, le fils de sa sœur, il courut à sa rencontre, l'étreignit tendrement et l'embrassa. Puis il le fit venir chez lui. Jacob raconta tous ces événements à Laban,

WLC ¹³ וַיְהִי֩ כִשְׁמֹ֨עַ לָבָ֜ן אֶת־ שֵׁ֣מַע ׀ יַעֲקֹ֣ב בֶּן־ אֲחֹת֗וֹ וַיָּ֤רָץ לִקְרָאתוֹ֙ וַיְחַבֶּק־ לוֹ֙ וַיְנַשֶּׁק־ ל֔וֹ וַיְבִיאֵ֖הוּ אֶל־ בֵּית֑וֹ וַיְסַפֵּ֣ר לְלָבָ֔ן אֵ֥ת כָּל־ הַדְּבָרִ֖ים הָאֵֽלֶּה׃

KJV ¹⁴ And Laban said to him, Surely thou art my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.

MAR ¹⁴ Et Laban lui dit : Certainement, tu es mon os et ma chair ; et il demeura avec lui un mois entier.

S21 ¹⁴ et Laban lui dit: «C'est certain, tu es bien fait des mêmes os et de la même chair que moi.»
Jacob habita un mois chez Laban.

KJV ¹⁵ And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be?

MAR ¹⁵ Après quoi Laban dit à Jacob : Me serviras-tu pour rien, parce que tu es mon frère ? Dis-moi quel sera ton salaire ?

S21 ¹⁵ Puis ce dernier lui dit: «Parce que tu fais partie de ma parenté, devrais-tu me servir pour rien? Dis-moi quel sera ton salaire.»

KJV ¹⁶ And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.

KJV ¹⁸ And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.

MAR ¹⁹ Et Laban répondit : Il vaut mieux que je te la donne que si je la donnais à un autre ; demeure avec moi.

S21 ¹⁹ Laban dit: «Je préfère te la donner à toi qu'à un autre homme. Reste chez moi!»

KJV ²⁰ And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.

KJV ²¹ And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.

MAR ²¹ Et Jacob dit à Laban : Donne-moi ma femme, car mon temps est accompli, et je viendrai vers elle.

S21 ²¹ Puis Jacob dit à Laban: «Donne-moi ma femme, car je suis allé jusqu'au bout de mon contrat et je veux m'unir à elle.»

KJV ²² And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.

KJV ²⁵ And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?

MAR ²⁵ Mais le matin étant venu, voici, [c'était] Léa. Et il dit à Laban : Qu'est-ce que tu m'as fait ? N'ai-je pas servi chez toi pour Rachel ? et pourquoi m'as-tu trompé ?

S21 ²⁵ Le lendemain matin, voilà que c'était Léa. Jacob dit alors à Laban: «Qu'est-ce que tu m'as fait? N'est-ce pas pour Rachel que j'ai servi chez toi? Pourquoi m'as-tu trompé?»

WLC ²⁵ וַיְהִ֣י בַבֹּ֔קֶר וְהִנֵּה־ הִ֖וא לֵאָ֑ה וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֶל־ לָבָ֗ן מַה־ זֹּאת֙ עָשִׂ֣יתָ לִּ֔י הֲלֹ֤א בְרָחֵל֙ עָבַ֣דְתִּי עִמָּ֔ךְ וְלָ֖מָּה רִמִּיתָֽנִי׃

KJV ²⁶ And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.

WLC ²⁶ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָבָ֔ן לֹא־ יֵעָשֶׂ֥ה כֵ֖ן בִּמְקוֹמֵ֑נוּ לָתֵ֥ת הַצְּעִירָ֖ה לִפְנֵ֥י הַבְּכִירָֽה׃

KJV ²⁷ Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.

MAR ²⁷ Achève la semaine de celle-ci, et nous te donnerons aussi l'autre, pour le service que tu feras encore chez moi sept autres années.

KJV ²⁸ And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.

KJV ³¹ And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.

KJV ³² And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.

MAR ³² Et Léa conçut et enfanta un fils, et elle le nomma Ruben, car elle dit : [C'est] parce que l'Eternel a regardé mon affliction ; c'est pourquoi aussi maintenant mon mari m'aimera.

S21 ³² Léa tomba enceinte et mit au monde un fils qu'elle appela Ruben, car elle dit: «L'Eternel a vu mon humiliation et désormais mon mari m'aimera.»

WLC ³² וַתַּ֤הַר לֵאָה֙ וַתֵּ֣לֶד בֵּ֔ן וַתִּקְרָ֥א שְׁמ֖וֹ רְאוּבֵ֑ן כִּ֣י אָֽמְרָ֗ה כִּֽי־ רָאָ֤ה יְהוָה֙ בְּעָנְיִ֔י כִּ֥י עַתָּ֖ה יֶאֱהָבַ֥נִי אִישִֽׁי׃

KJV ³³ And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD hath heard I was hated, he hath therefore given me this son also: and she called his name Simeon.

MAR ³³ Elle conçut encore, et enfanta un fils, et dit : Parce que l'Eternel a entendu que j'étais haïe, il m'a aussi donné celui-ci ; et elle le nomma Siméon.

S21 ³³ Elle tomba encore enceinte et mit au monde un fils, et elle dit: «L'Eternel a entendu que je n'étais pas aimée et il m'a aussi accordé celui-ci.» Et elle lui donna le nom de Siméon.

S21 ³⁴ Elle tomba encore enceinte et mit au monde un fils, et elle dit: «Cette fois-ci, mon mari s'attachera à moi, car je lui ai donné trois fils.» C'est pourquoi on l'appela Lévi.

KJV ³⁵ And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.

MAR ³⁵ Elle conçut encore, et enfanta un fils, et dit : Cette fois je louerai l'Eternel ; c'est pourquoi elle appela son nom Juda ; et elle ne continua plus d'avoir des enfants.

S21 ³⁵ Elle tomba encore enceinte et mit au monde un fils, et elle dit: «Cette fois, je célébrerai l'Eternel.» C'est pourquoi elle lui donna le nom de Juda. Puis elle cessa d'avoir des enfants.
