BAN ¹ Et Rachel vit qu'elle ne donnait point d'enfant à Jacob, et Rachel fut jalouse de sa soeur et dit à Jacob : Donne-moi des fils, sinon je suis morte.

KJV ¹ And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.

BAN ² Et Jacob se fâcha contre Rachel, et dit : Suis-je à la place de Dieu qui t'a rendue stérile ?

KJV ² And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God's stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?

BAN ³ Et elle dit : Voici ma servante Bilha ; va vers elle, qu'elle enfante sur mes genoux, et par elle j'aurai, moi aussi, une famille.

KJV ³ And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her.

BAN ⁴ Et elle lui donna Bilha, sa servante, pour femme, et Jacob alla vers elle.

KJV ⁴ And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in unto her.

BAN ⁵ Et Bilha conçut et enfanta un fils à Jacob.

KJV ⁵ And Bilhah conceived, and bare Jacob a son.

BAN ⁶ Et Rachel dit : Dieu m'a rendu justice, et même il a entendu ma voix et m'a donné un fils. C'est pourquoi elle l'appela Dan.

KJV ⁶ And Rachel said, God hath judged me, and hath also heard my voice, and hath given me a son: therefore called she his name Dan.

BAN ⁷ Et Bilha, servante de Rachel, conçut encore et enfanta un second fils, à Jacob.

KJV ⁷ And Bilhah Rachel's maid conceived again, and bare Jacob a second son.

BAN ⁸ Et Rachel dit : C'étaient des luttes de Dieu que mes luttes avec ma soeur ; aussi je l'ai emporté. Et elle le nomma Nephthali.

KJV ⁸ And Rachel said, With great wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister, and I have prevailed: and she called his name Naphtali.

BAN ⁹ Et Léa, voyant qu'elle avait cessé d'avoir des enfants, prit Zilpa, sa servante, et la donna pour femme à Jacob.

KJV ⁹ When Leah saw that she had left bearing, she took Zilpah her maid, and gave her Jacob to wife.

BAN ¹⁰ Et Zilpa, servante de Léa, enfanta un fils à Jacob.

KJV ¹⁰ And Zilpah Leah's maid bare Jacob a son.

BAN ¹¹ Et Léa dit : Quelle bonne fortune ! Et elle le nomma Gad.

KJV ¹¹ And Leah said, A troop cometh: and she called his name Gad.

BAN ¹² Et Zilpa, servante de Léa, enfanta un second fils à Jacob.

KJV ¹² And Zilpah Leah's maid bare Jacob a second son.

BAN ¹³ Et Léa dit : Pour mon bonheur ! car les filles me diront bienheureuse. Et elle le nomma Asser.

KJV ¹³ And Leah said, Happy am I, for the daughters will call me blessed: and she called his name Asher.

BAN ¹⁴ Ruben sortit au temps de la moisson des blés, et trouva des mandragores dans les champs, et il les apporta à Léa, sa mère. Et Rachel dit à Léa : Donne-moi, s'il te plaît, des mandragores de ton fils ?

KJV ¹⁴ And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of thy son's mandrakes.

BAN ¹⁵ Et Léa lui dit : Est-ce peu que tu prennes mon mari ? Tu prendrais encore les mandragores de mon fils ? Et Rachel dit : Eh bien ! il sera avec toi cette nuit en échange des mandragores de ton fils.

KJV ¹⁵ And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that thou hast taken my husband? and wouldest thou take away my son's mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to night for thy son's mandrakes.

BAN ¹⁶ Et Jacob revint des champs le soir, et Léa sortit au-devant de lui et lui dit : Tu viendras chez moi, car je t'ai loué pour les mandragores de mon fils. Et il fut avec elle cette nuit-là.

KJV ¹⁶ And Jacob came out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, Thou must come in unto me; for surely I have hired thee with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night.

BAN ¹⁷ Et Dieu exauça Léa, et elle conçut et enfanta à Jacob un cinquième fils.

KJV ¹⁷ And God hearkened unto Leah, and she conceived, and bare Jacob the fifth son.

BAN ¹⁸ Et Léa dit : Dieu m'a donné mon salaire pour avoir donné ma servante à mon mari. Et elle le nomma Issacar.

KJV ¹⁸ And Leah said, God hath given me my hire, because I have given my maiden to my husband: and she called his name Issachar.

BAN ¹⁹ Et Léa conçut encore et enfanta un sixième fils à Jacob ;

KJV ¹⁹ And Leah conceived again, and bare Jacob the sixth son.

BAN ²⁰ et Léa dit : Dieu m'a richement dotée ; cette fois mon mari habitera avec moi, puisque je lui ai enfanté six fils. Et elle le nomma Zabulon.

KJV ²⁰ And Leah said, God hath endued me with a good dowry; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have born him six sons: and she called his name Zebulun.

BAN ²¹ Ensuite elle enfanta une fille, et elle la nomma Dina

KJV ²¹ And afterwards she bare a daughter, and called her name Dinah.

BAN ²² Et Dieu se souvint de Rachel, et Dieu l'exauça et la rendit féconde.

KJV ²² And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb.

BAN ²³ Et elle conçut et enfanta un fils, et elle dit : Dieu a ôté mon opprobre.

KJV ²³ And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God hath taken away my reproach:

BAN ²⁴ Et elle le nomma Joseph, en disant : Que l'Eternel m'ajoute encore un autre fils !

KJV ²⁴ And she called his name Joseph; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son.

BAN ²⁵ Et il arriva, lorsque Rachel eut enfanté Joseph, que Jacob dit à Laban : Donne-moi mon congé, que je m'en aille chez moi, dans mon pays.

KJV ²⁵ And it came to pass, when Rachel had born Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban, Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country.

BAN ²⁶ Donne-moi mes femmes, pour lesquelles je t'ai servi, et mes enfants, et que je m'en aille, car tu sais toi-même le service que j'ai fait pour toi.

KJV ²⁶ Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest my service which I have done thee.

BAN ²⁷ Et Laban lui dit : Si j'ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux... J'ai bien observé : l'Eternel m'a béni à cause de toi.

KJV ²⁷ And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake.

BAN ²⁸ Et il dit : Fixe-moi ton salaire, et je te le donnerai.

KJV ²⁸ And he said, Appoint me thy wages, and I will give it.

BAN ²⁹ Jacob lui dit : Tu sais toi-même comment je t'ai servi, et ce qu'est devenu ton bétail avec moi.

KJV ²⁹ And he said unto him, Thou knowest how I have served thee, and how thy cattle was with me.

BAN ³⁰ Car c'était peu de chose que ton bien, avant moi, et il s'est extrêmement accru ; et l'Eternel a mis pour toi la bénédiction sur mes pas ; et maintenant, quand travaillerai-je aussi pour ma maison ?

KJV ³⁰ For it was little which thou hadst before I came, and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the LORD hath blessed thee since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also?

BAN ³¹ Laban lui dit : Que te donnerai-je ? Et Jacob dit : Tu ne me donneras rien du tout. Si tu m'accordes ce que je vais dire, je recommencerai à paître tes troupeaux et à les garder.

KJV ³¹ And he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me any thing: if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy flock.

BAN ³² Je passerai aujourd'hui à travers tout ton troupeau, en mettant à part toute bête picotée et rayée et toute bête noire parmi les agneaux, et tout ce qui est rayé et picoté parmi les chèvres ; ce sera là mon salaire.

KJV ³² I will pass through all thy flock to day, removing from thence all the speckled and spotted cattle, and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: and of such shall be my hire.

BAN ³³ Et à l'avenir ma justice témoignera pour moi quand tu viendras reconnaître mon salaire. Tout ce qui ne sera pas picoté et rayé, parmi les chèvres et noir parmi les agneaux sera un vol, s'il est chez moi.

KJV ³³ So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my hire before thy face: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted stolen with me.

BAN ³⁴ Et Laban dit : Eh bien ! qu'il en soit comme tu dis.

KJV ³⁴ And Laban said, Behold, I would it might be according to thy word.

BAN ³⁵ Et le jour même, il sépara les boucs tachetés et rayés et toutes les chèvres picotées et rayées, tout ce qui avait du blanc, et tout ce qui était noir parmi les agneaux ; et il les confia à ses fils.

KJV ³⁵ And he removed that day the he goats that were ringstraked and spotted, and all the she goats that were speckled and spotted, and every one that had some white in it, and all the brown among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons.

BAN ³⁶ Et il mit l'espace de trois journées de chemin entre lui et Jacob. Et Jacob paissait le reste des troupeaux de Laban.

KJV ³⁶ And he set three days' journey betwixt himself and Jacob: and Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks.

BAN ³⁷ Et Jacob prit des baguettes vertes de peuplier, d'amandier et de platane ; il y pela des places blanches, mettant à nu le blanc des baguettes.

KJV ³⁷ And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut tree; and pilled white strakes in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods.

BAN ³⁸ Et il mit les baguettes qu'il avait pelées en regard des brebis dans les auges, dans les abreuvoirs où les brebis venaient boire ; et elles entraient en chaleur quand elles venaient boire.

KJV ³⁸ And he set the rods which he had pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink.

BAN ³⁹ Et les brebis s'accouplaient à la vue des baguettes, et elles faisaient des agneaux tachetés, picotés et rayés.

KJV ³⁹ And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ringstraked, speckled, and spotted.

BAN ⁴⁰ Et ces agneaux, Jacob les mettait à part, et il tournait la face du troupeau vers ce qui était tacheté et tout ce qui était noir dans le troupeau de Laban. Il se fit ainsi des troupeaux à lui, qu'il ne joignait pas au troupeau de Laban.

KJV ⁴⁰ And Jacob did separate the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the ringstraked, and all the brown in the flock of Laban; and he put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not unto Laban's cattle.

BAN ⁴¹ Et il arrivait que, toutes les fois que les brebis vigoureuses entraient en chaleur, Jacob mettait les baguettes dans les auges sous les yeux des brebis, afin qu'elles s'accouplassent quand les baguettes y étaient.

KJV ⁴¹ And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods.

BAN ⁴² Mais quand les brebis étaient chétives, il ne les mettait point, en sorte que les agneaux chétifs, étaient pour Laban, et les vigoureux pour Jacob.

KJV ⁴² But when the cattle were feeble, he put them not in: so the feebler were Laban's, and the stronger Jacob's.

BAN ⁴³ Et cet homme s'accrut extraordinairement, et il eut de nombreux troupeaux, des servantes et des serviteurs, des chameaux et des ânes.

KJV ⁴³ And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses.
