Genèse 31KJV 1 And he heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that was our father's; and of that which was our father's hath he gotten all this glory.

WLC 1 וַיִּשְׁמַ֗ע אֶת־ דִּבְרֵ֤י בְנֵֽי־ לָבָן֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לָקַ֣ח יַעֲקֹ֔ב אֵ֖ת כָּל־ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לְאָבִ֑ינוּ וּמֵאֲשֶׁ֣ר לְאָבִ֔ינוּ עָשָׂ֕ה אֵ֥ת כָּל־ הַכָּבֹ֖ד הַזֶּֽה׃
KJV 2 And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and, behold, it was not toward him as before.
VULC 2 animadvertit quoque faciem Laban, quod non esset erga se sicut heri et nudiustertius,
WLC 2 וַיַּ֥רְא יַעֲקֹ֖ב אֶת־ פְּנֵ֣י לָבָ֑ן וְהִנֵּ֥ה אֵינֶ֛נּוּ עִמּ֖וֹ כִּתְמ֥וֹל שִׁלְשֽׁוֹם׃
KJV 3 And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.
VULC 3 maxime dicente sibi Domino : Revertere in terram patrum tuorum, et ad generationem tuam, eroque tecum.
WLC 3 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶֽל־ יַעֲקֹ֔ב שׁ֛וּב אֶל־ אֶ֥רֶץ אֲבוֹתֶ֖יךָ וּלְמוֹלַדְתֶּ֑ךָ וְאֶֽהְיֶ֖ה עִמָּֽךְ׃
KJV 4 And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock,
VULC 4 Misit, et vocavit Rachel et Liam in agrum, ubi pascebat greges,
WLC 4 וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח יַעֲקֹ֔ב וַיִּקְרָ֖א לְרָחֵ֣ל וּלְלֵאָ֑ה הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה אֶל־ צֹאנֽוֹ׃
KJV 5 And said unto them, I see your father's countenance, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father hath been with me.
VULC 5 dixitque eis : Video faciem patris vestri quod non sit erga me sicut heri et nudiustertius : Deus autem patris mei fuit mecum.
WLC 5 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָהֶ֗ן רֹאֶ֤ה אָנֹכִי֙ אֶת־ פְּנֵ֣י אֲבִיכֶ֔ן כִּֽי־ אֵינֶ֥נּוּ אֵלַ֖י כִּתְמֹ֣ל שִׁלְשֹׁ֑ם וֵֽאלֹהֵ֣י אָבִ֔י הָיָ֖ה עִמָּדִֽי׃
KJV 6 And ye know that with all my power I have served your father.
VULC 6 Et ipsæ nostis quod totis viribus meis servierim patri vestro.
WLC 6 וְאַתֵּ֖נָה יְדַעְתֶּ֑ן כִּ֚י בְּכָל־ כֹּחִ֔י עָבַ֖דְתִּי אֶת־ אֲבִיכֶֽן׃
KJV 7 And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me.
VULC 7 Sed et pater vester circumvenit me et mutavit mercedem meam decem vicibus : et tamen non dimisit eum Deus ut noceret mihi.
WLC 7 וַאֲבִיכֶן֙ הֵ֣תֶל בִּ֔י וְהֶחֱלִ֥ף אֶת־ מַשְׂכֻּרְתִּ֖י עֲשֶׂ֣רֶת מֹנִ֑ים וְלֹֽא־ נְתָנ֣וֹ אֱלֹהִ֔ים לְהָרַ֖ע עִמָּדִֽי׃
KJV 8 If he said thus, The speckled shall be thy wages; then all the cattle bare speckled: and if he said thus, The ringstraked shall be thy hire; then bare all the cattle ringstraked.
VULC 8 Siquando dixit : Variæ erunt mercedes tuæ : pariebant omnes oves varios fœtus ; quando vero e contrario, ait : Alba quæque accipies pro mercede : omnes greges alba pepererunt.
WLC 8 אִם־ כֹּ֣ה יֹאמַ֗ר נְקֻדִּים֙ יִהְיֶ֣ה שְׂכָרֶ֔ךָ וְיָלְד֥וּ כָל־ הַצֹּ֖אן נְקֻדִּ֑ים וְאִם־ כֹּ֣ה יֹאמַ֗ר עֲקֻדִּים֙ יִהְיֶ֣ה שְׂכָרֶ֔ךָ וְיָלְד֥וּ כָל־ הַצֹּ֖אן עֲקֻדִּֽים׃
KJV 9 Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father, and given them to me.
VULC 9 Tulitque Deus substantiam patris vestri, et dedit mihi.
WLC 9 וַיַּצֵּ֧ל אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֶת־ מִקְנֵ֥ה אֲבִיכֶ֖ם וַיִּתֶּן־ לִֽי׃
KJV 10 And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ringstraked, speckled, and grisled.
VULC 10 Postquam enim conceptus ovium tempus advenerat, levavi oculos meos, et vidi in somnis ascendentes mares super feminas, varios et maculosos, et diversorum colorum.
WLC 10 וַיְהִ֗י בְּעֵת֙ יַחֵ֣ם הַצֹּ֔אן וָאֶשָּׂ֥א עֵינַ֛י וָאֵ֖רֶא בַּחֲל֑וֹם וְהִנֵּ֤ה הָֽעַתֻּדִים֙ הָעֹלִ֣ים עַל־ הַצֹּ֔אן עֲקֻדִּ֥ים נְקֻדִּ֖ים וּבְרֻדִּֽים׃
KJV 11 And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I.
VULC 11 Dixitque angelus Dei ad me in somnis : Jacob ? Et ego respondi : Adsum.
WLC 11 וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלַ֜י מַלְאַ֧ךְ הָאֱלֹהִ֛ים בַּחֲל֖וֹם יַֽעֲקֹ֑ב וָאֹמַ֖ר הִנֵּֽנִי׃
KJV 12 And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are ringstraked, speckled, and grisled: for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee.
VULC 12 Qui ait : Leva oculos tuos, et vide universos masculos ascendentes super feminas, varios, maculosos, atque respersos. Vidi enim omnia quæ fecit tibi Laban.
WLC 12 וַיֹּ֗אמֶר שָׂא־ נָ֨א עֵינֶ֤יךָ וּרְאֵה֙ כָּל־ הָֽעַתֻּדִים֙ הָעֹלִ֣ים עַל־ הַצֹּ֔אן עֲקֻדִּ֥ים נְקֻדִּ֖ים וּבְרֻדִּ֑ים כִּ֣י רָאִ֔יתִי אֵ֛ת כָּל־ אֲשֶׁ֥ר לָבָ֖ן עֹ֥שֶׂה לָּֽךְ׃
KJV 13 I am the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, and where thou vowedst a vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred.
VULC 13 Ego sum Deus Bethel, ubi unxisti lapidem, et votum vovisti mihi. Nunc ergo surge, et egredere de terra hac, revertens in terram nativitatis tuæ.
WLC 13 אָנֹכִ֤י הָאֵל֙ בֵּֽית־ אֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֨ר מָשַׁ֤חְתָּ שָּׁם֙ מַצֵּבָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר נָדַ֥רְתָּ לִּ֛י שָׁ֖ם נֶ֑דֶר עַתָּ֗ה ק֥וּם צֵא֙ מִן־ הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֔את וְשׁ֖וּב אֶל־ אֶ֥רֶץ מוֹלַדְתֶּֽךָ׃
KJV 14 And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house?
VULC 14 Responderuntque Rachel et Lia : Numquid habemus residui quidquam in facultatibus et hæreditate domus patris nostri ?
WLC 14 וַתַּ֤עַן רָחֵל֙ וְלֵאָ֔ה וַתֹּאמַ֖רְנָה ל֑וֹ הַע֥וֹד לָ֛נוּ חֵ֥לֶק וְנַחֲלָ֖ה בְּבֵ֥ית אָבִֽינוּ׃
KJV 15 Are we not counted of him strangers? for he hath sold us, and hath quite devoured also our money.
VULC 15 nonne quasi alienas reputavit nos, et vendidit, comeditque pretium nostrum ?
WLC 15 הֲל֧וֹא נָכְרִיּ֛וֹת נֶחְשַׁ֥בְנוּ ל֖וֹ כִּ֣י מְכָרָ֑נוּ וַיֹּ֥אכַל גַּם־ אָכ֖וֹל אֶת־ כַּסְפֵּֽנוּ׃
KJV 16 For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that is ours, and our children's: now then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do.
VULC 16 Sed Deus tulit opes patris nostri, et eas tradidit nobis, ac filiis nostris : unde omnia quæ præcepit tibi Deus, fac.
WLC 16 כִּ֣י כָל־ הָעֹ֗שֶׁר אֲשֶׁ֨ר הִצִּ֤יל אֱלֹהִים֙ מֵֽאָבִ֔ינוּ לָ֥נוּ ה֖וּא וּלְבָנֵ֑ינוּ וְעַתָּ֗ה כֹּל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָמַ֧ר אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֵלֶ֖יךָ עֲשֵֽׂה׃
KJV 17 Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels;
VULC 17 Surrexit itaque Jacob, et impositis liberis ac conjugibus suis super camelos, abiit.
WLC 17 וַיָּ֖קָם יַעֲקֹ֑ב וַיִּשָּׂ֛א אֶת־ בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶת־ נָשָׁ֖יו עַל־ הַגְּמַלִּֽים׃
KJV 18 And he carried away all his cattle, and all his goods which he had gotten, the cattle of his getting, which he had gotten in Padanaram, for to go to Isaac his father in the land of Canaan.
VULC 18 Tulitque omnem substantiam suam, et greges, et quidquid in Mesopotamia acquisierat, pergens ad Isaac patrem suum in terram Chanaan.
WLC 18 וַיִּנְהַ֣ג אֶת־ כָּל־ מִקְנֵ֗הוּ וְאֶת־ כָּל־ רְכֻשׁוֹ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר רָכָ֔שׁ מִקְנֵה֙ קִנְיָנ֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר רָכַ֖שׁ בְּפַדַּ֣ן אֲרָ֑ם לָב֛וֹא אֶל־ יִצְחָ֥ק אָבִ֖יו אַ֥רְצָה כְּנָֽעַן׃
KJV 19 And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that were her father's.
VULC 19 Eo tempore ierat Laban ad tondendas oves, et Rachel furata est idola patris sui.
WLC 19 וְלָבָ֣ן הָלַ֔ךְ לִגְזֹ֖ז אֶת־ צֹאנ֑וֹ וַתִּגְנֹ֣ב רָחֵ֔ל אֶת־ הַתְּרָפִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר לְאָבִֽיהָ׃
KJV 20 And Jacob stole away unawares to Laban the Syrian, in that he told him not that he fled.
VULC 20 Noluitque Jacob confiteri socero suo quod fugeret.
WLC 20 וַיִּגְנֹ֣ב יַעֲקֹ֔ב אֶת־ לֵ֥ב לָבָ֖ן הָאֲרַמִּ֑י עַל־ בְּלִי֙ הִגִּ֣יד ל֔וֹ כִּ֥י בֹרֵ֖חַ הֽוּא׃
KJV 21 So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the river, and set his face toward the mount Gilead.
VULC 21 Cumque abiisset tam ipse quam omnia quæ juris sui erant, et amne transmisso pergeret contra montem Galaad,
WLC 21 וַיִּבְרַ֥ח הוּא֙ וְכָל־ אֲשֶׁר־ ל֔וֹ וַיָּ֖קָם וַיַּעֲבֹ֣ר אֶת־ הַנָּהָ֑ר וַיָּ֥שֶׂם אֶת־ פָּנָ֖יו הַ֥ר הַגִּלְעָֽד׃
KJV 22 And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled.
VULC 22 nuntiatum est Laban die tertio quod fugeret Jacob.
WLC 22 וַיֻּגַּ֥ד לְלָבָ֖ן בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֑י כִּ֥י בָרַ֖ח יַעֲקֹֽב׃
KJV 23 And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days' journey; and they overtook him in the mount Gilead.
VULC 23 Qui, assumptis fratribus suis, persecutus est eum diebus septem : et comprehendit eum in monte Galaad.
WLC 23 וַיִּקַּ֤ח אֶת־ אֶחָיו֙ עִמּ֔וֹ וַיִּרְדֹּ֣ף אַחֲרָ֔יו דֶּ֖רֶךְ שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֑ים וַיַּדְבֵּ֥ק אֹת֖וֹ בְּהַ֥ר הַגִּלְעָֽד׃
KJV 24 And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.
VULC 24 Viditque in somnis dicentem sibi Deum : Cave ne quidquam aspere loquaris contra Jacob.
WLC 24 וַיָּבֹ֧א אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֶל־ לָבָ֥ן הָאֲרַמִּ֖י בַּחֲלֹ֣ם הַלָּ֑יְלָה וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ הִשָּׁ֧מֶר לְךָ֛ פֶּן־ תְּדַבֵּ֥ר עִֽם־ יַעֲקֹ֖ב מִטּ֥וֹב עַד־ רָֽע׃
KJV 25 Then Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount: and Laban with his brethren pitched in the mount of Gilead.
VULC 25 Jamque Jacob extenderat in monte tabernaculum : cumque ille consecutus fuisset eum cum fratribus suis, in eodem monte Galaad fixit tentorium.
WLC 25 וַיַּשֵּׂ֥ג לָבָ֖ן אֶֽת־ יַעֲקֹ֑ב וְיַעֲקֹ֗ב תָּקַ֤ע אֶֽת־ אָהֳלוֹ֙ בָּהָ֔ר וְלָבָ֛ן תָּקַ֥ע אֶת־ אֶחָ֖יו בְּהַ֥ר הַגִּלְעָֽד׃
KJV 26 And Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast stolen away unawares to me, and carried away my daughters, as captives taken with the sword?
VULC 26 Et dixit ad Jacob : Quare ita egisti, ut clam me abigeres filias meas quasi captivas gladio ?
WLC 26 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לָבָן֙ לְיַעֲקֹ֔ב מֶ֣ה עָשִׂ֔יתָ וַתִּגְנֹ֖ב אֶת־ לְבָבִ֑י וַתְּנַהֵג֙ אֶת־ בְּנֹתַ֔י כִּשְׁבֻי֖וֹת חָֽרֶב׃
KJV 27 Wherefore didst thou flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and didst not tell me, that I might have sent thee away with mirth, and with songs, with tabret, and with harp?
VULC 27 cur ignorante me fugere voluisti, nec indicare mihi, ut prosequerer te cum gaudio, et canticis, et tympanis, et citharis ?
WLC 27 לָ֤מָּה נַחְבֵּ֙אתָ֙ לִבְרֹ֔חַ וַתִּגְנֹ֖ב אֹתִ֑י וְלֹא־ הִגַּ֣דְתָּ לִּ֔י וָֽאֲשַׁלֵּחֲךָ֛ בְּשִׂמְחָ֥ה וּבְשִׁרִ֖ים בְּתֹ֥ף וּבְכִנּֽוֹר׃
KJV 28 And hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? thou hast now done foolishly in so doing.
VULC 28 Non es passus ut oscularer filios meos et filias : stulte operatus es : et nunc quidem
WLC 28 וְלֹ֣א נְטַשְׁתַּ֔נִי לְנַשֵּׁ֥ק לְבָנַ֖י וְלִבְנֹתָ֑י עַתָּ֖ה הִסְכַּ֥לְתָּֽ עֲשֽׂוֹ׃
KJV 29 It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father spake unto me yesternight, saying, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.
VULC 29 valet manus mea reddere tibi malum : sed Deus patris vestri heri dixit mihi : Cave ne loquaris contra Jacob quidquam durius.

KJV 30 And now, though thou wouldest needs be gone, because thou sore longedst after thy father's house, yet wherefore hast thou stolen my gods?
VULC 30 Esto, ad tuos ire cupiebas, et desiderio erat tibi domus patris tui : cur furatus es deos meos ?
WLC 30 וְעַתָּה֙ הָלֹ֣ךְ הָלַ֔כְתָּ כִּֽי־ נִכְסֹ֥ף נִכְסַ֖פְתָּה לְבֵ֣ית אָבִ֑יךָ לָ֥מָּה גָנַ֖בְתָּ אֶת־ אֱלֹהָֽי׃
KJV 31 And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid: for I said, Peradventure thou wouldest take by force thy daughters from me.
VULC 31 Respondit Jacob : Quod inscio te profectus sum, timui ne violenter auferres filias tuas.
WLC 31 וַיַּ֥עַן יַעֲקֹ֖ב וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לְלָבָ֑ן כִּ֣י יָרֵ֔אתִי כִּ֣י אָמַ֔רְתִּי פֶּן־ תִּגְזֹ֥ל אֶת־ בְּנוֹתֶ֖יךָ מֵעִמִּֽי׃
KJV 32 With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.
VULC 32 Quod autem furti me arguis : apud quemcumque inveneris deos tuos, necetur coram fratribus nostris : scrutare, quidquid tuorum apud me inveneris, et aufer. Hæc dicens, ignorabat quod Rachel furata esset idola.
WLC 32 עִ֠ם אֲשֶׁ֨ר תִּמְצָ֣א אֶת־ אֱלֹהֶיךָ֮ לֹ֣א יִֽחְיֶה֒ נֶ֣גֶד אַחֵ֧ינוּ הַֽכֶּר־ לְךָ֛ מָ֥ה עִמָּדִ֖י וְקַֽח־ לָ֑ךְ וְלֹֽא־ יָדַ֣ע יַעֲקֹ֔ב כִּ֥י רָחֵ֖ל גְּנָבָֽתַם׃
KJV 33 And Laban went into Jacob's tent, and into Leah's tent, and into the two maidservants' tents; but he found them not. Then went he out of Leah's tent, and entered into Rachel's tent.
VULC 33 Ingressus itaque Laban tabernaculum Jacob, et Liæ, et utriusque famulæ, non invenit. Cumque intrasset tentorium Rachelis,
WLC 33 וַיָּבֹ֨א לָבָ֜ן בְּאֹ֥הֶל יַעֲקֹ֣ב ׀ וּבְאֹ֣הֶל לֵאָ֗ה וּבְאֹ֛הֶל שְׁתֵּ֥י הָאֲמָהֹ֖ת וְלֹ֣א מָצָ֑א וַיֵּצֵא֙ מֵאֹ֣הֶל לֵאָ֔ה וַיָּבֹ֖א בְּאֹ֥הֶל רָחֵֽל׃
KJV 34 Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camel's furniture, and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent, but found them not.
VULC 34 illa festinans abscondit idola subter stramenta cameli, et sedit desuper : scrutantique omne tentorium, et nihil invenienti,
WLC 34 וְרָחֵ֞ל לָקְחָ֣ה אֶת־ הַתְּרָפִ֗ים וַתְּשִׂמֵ֛ם בְּכַ֥ר הַגָּמָ֖ל וַתֵּ֣שֶׁב עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם וַיְמַשֵּׁ֥שׁ לָבָ֛ן אֶת־ כָּל־ הָאֹ֖הֶל וְלֹ֥א מָצָֽא׃
KJV 35 And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before thee; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched but found not the images.
VULC 35 ait : Ne irascatur dominus meus quod coram te assurgere nequeo : quia juxta consuetudinem feminarum nunc accidit mihi : sic delusa sollicitudo quærentis est.
WLC 35 וַתֹּ֣אמֶר אֶל־ אָבִ֗יהָ אַל־ יִ֙חַר֙ בְּעֵינֵ֣י אֲדֹנִ֔י כִּ֣י ל֤וֹא אוּכַל֙ לָק֣וּם מִפָּנֶ֔יךָ כִּי־ דֶ֥רֶךְ נָשִׁ֖ים לִ֑י וַיְחַפֵּ֕שׂ וְלֹ֥א מָצָ֖א אֶת־ הַתְּרָפִֽים׃
KJV 36 And Jacob was wroth, and chode with Laban: and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my trespass? what is my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursued after me?
VULC 36 Tumensque Jacob, cum jurgio ait : Quam ob culpam meam, et ob quod peccatum meum sic exarsisti post me,
WLC 36 וַיִּ֥חַר לְיַעֲקֹ֖ב וַיָּ֣רֶב בְּלָבָ֑ן וַיַּ֤עַן יַעֲקֹב֙ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לְלָבָ֔ן מַה־ פִּשְׁעִי֙ מַ֣ה חַטָּאתִ֔י כִּ֥י דָלַ֖קְתָּ אַחֲרָֽי׃
KJV 37 Whereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? set it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge betwixt us both.
VULC 37 et scrutatus es omnem supellectilem meam ? quid invenisti de cuncta substantia domus tuæ ? pone hic coram fratribus meis, et fratribus tuis, et judicent inter me et te.
WLC 37 כִּֽי־ מִשַּׁ֣שְׁתָּ אֶת־ כָּל־ כֵּלַ֗י מַה־ מָּצָ֙אתָ֙ מִכֹּ֣ל כְּלֵי־ בֵיתֶ֔ךָ שִׂ֣ים כֹּ֔ה נֶ֥גֶד אַחַ֖י וְאַחֶ֑יךָ וְיוֹכִ֖יחוּ בֵּ֥ין שְׁנֵֽינוּ׃
KJV 38 This twenty years have I been with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten.

KJV 42 Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. God hath seen mine affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked thee yesternight.

KJV 43 And Laban answered and said unto Jacob, These daughters are my daughters, and these children are my children, and these cattle are my cattle, and all that thou seest is mine: and what can I do this day unto these my daughters, or unto their children which they have born?
