KJV ¹ And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither.

KJV ² And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

LSG ² L'Éternel fut avec lui, et la prospérité l'accompagna ; il habitait dans la maison de son maître, l'Égyptien.

MAR ² Et l'Eternel était avec Joseph ; et il prospéra, et demeura dans la maison de son maître Egyptien.

KJV ³ And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.

LSG ³ Son maître vit que l'Éternel était avec lui, et que l'Éternel faisait prospérer entre ses mains tout ce qu'il entreprenait.

WLC ³ וַיַּ֣רְא אֲדֹנָ֔יו כִּ֥י יְהוָ֖ה אִתּ֑וֹ וְכֹל֙ אֲשֶׁר־ ה֣וּא עֹשֶׂ֔ה יְהוָ֖ה מַצְלִ֥יחַ בְּיָדֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁴ And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

LSG ⁴ Joseph trouva grâce aux yeux de son maître, qui l'employa à son service, l'établit sur sa maison, et lui confia tout ce qu'il possédait.

MAR ⁴ C'est pourquoi Joseph trouva grâce devant son maître, et il le servait. Et [son maître] l'établit sur sa maison, et lui remit entre les mains tout ce qui lui appartenait.

WLC ⁴ וַיִּמְצָ֨א יוֹסֵ֥ף חֵ֛ן בְּעֵינָ֖יו וַיְשָׁ֣רֶת אֹת֑וֹ וַיַּפְקִדֵ֙הוּ֙ עַל־ בֵּית֔וֹ וְכָל־ יֶשׁ־ ל֖וֹ נָתַ֥ן בְּיָדֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁵ And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.

LSG ⁵ Dès que Potiphar l'eut établi sur sa maison et sur tout ce qu'il possédait, l'Éternel bénit la maison de l'Égyptien, à cause de Joseph ; et la bénédiction de l'Éternel fut sur tout ce qui lui appartenait, soit à la maison, soit aux champs.

MAR ⁵ Et il arriva que depuis qu'il l'eut établi sur sa maison, et sur tout ce qu'il avait, l'Eternel bénit la maison de cet Egyptien à cause de Joseph ; et la bénédiction de l'Eternel fut sur toutes les choses qui étaient à lui, tant en la maison, qu'aux champs.

KJV ⁶ And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.

LSG ⁶ Il abandonna aux mains de Joseph tout ce qui lui appartenait, et il n'avait avec lui d'autre soin que celui de prendre sa nourriture. Or, Joseph était beau de taille et beau de figure.

MAR ⁶ Il remit donc tout ce qui [était] à lui entre les mains de Joseph, sans entrer avec lui en connaissance d'aucune chose, sinon du pain qu'il mangeait. Or Joseph [était] de belle taille, et beau à voir.

WLC ⁶ וַיַּעֲזֹ֣ב כָּל־ אֲשֶׁר־ לוֹ֮ בְּיַד־ יוֹסֵף֒ וְלֹא־ יָדַ֤ע אִתּוֹ֙ מְא֔וּמָה כִּ֥י אִם־ הַלֶּ֖חֶם אֲשֶׁר־ ה֣וּא אוֹכֵ֑ל וַיְהִ֣י יוֹסֵ֔ף יְפֵה־ תֹ֖אַר וִיפֵ֥ה מַרְאֶֽה׃

KJV ⁷ And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.

LSG ⁷ Après ces choses, il arriva que la femme de son maître porta les yeux sur Joseph, et dit: Couche avec moi !

WLC ⁷ וַיְהִ֗י אַחַר֙ הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה וַתִּשָּׂ֧א אֵֽשֶׁת־ אֲדֹנָ֛יו אֶת־ עֵינֶ֖יהָ אֶל־ יוֹסֵ֑ף וַתֹּ֖אמֶר שִׁכְבָ֥ה עִמִּֽי׃

KJV ⁸ But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;

LSG ⁸ Il refusa, et dit à la femme de son maître: Voici, mon maître ne prend avec moi connaissance de rien dans la maison, et il a remis entre mes mains tout ce qui lui appartient.

MAR ⁸ Mais il le refusa, et dit à la femme de son maître : Voici, mon maître n'entre en aucune connaissance avec moi des choses qui sont dans sa maison, et il m'a remis entre les mains tout ce qui lui appartient.

WLC ⁸ וַיְמָאֵ֓ן ׀ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־ אֵ֣שֶׁת אֲדֹנָ֔יו הֵ֣ן אֲדֹנִ֔י לֹא־ יָדַ֥ע אִתִּ֖י מַה־ בַּבָּ֑יִת וְכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־ יֶשׁ־ ל֖וֹ נָתַ֥ן בְּיָדִֽי׃

KJV ⁹ There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

LSG ⁹ Il n'est pas plus grand que moi dans cette maison, et il ne m'a rien interdit, excepté toi, parce que tu es sa femme. Comment ferais-je un aussi grand mal et pécherais-je contre Dieu ?

MAR ⁹ Il n'y a personne dans cette maison qui soit plus grand que moi, et il ne m'a rien défendu que toi, parce que tu es sa femme ; et comment ferais-je un si grand mal, et pécherais-je contre Dieu ?

KJV ¹⁰ And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.

LSG ¹⁰ Quoiqu'elle parlât tous les jours à Joseph, il refusa de coucher auprès d'elle, d'être avec elle.

MAR ¹⁰ Et quoiqu'elle [en] parlât à Joseph chaque jour, toutefois il ne lui accorda pas de coucher auprès d'elle, ni d'être avec elle.

KJV ¹¹ And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.

LSG ¹¹ Un jour qu'il était entré dans la maison pour faire son ouvrage, et qu'il n'y avait là aucun des gens de la maison,

MAR ¹¹ Mais il arriva, un jour qu'il était venu à la maison pour faire ce qu'il avait à faire, et qu'il n'y avait aucun des domestiques dans la maison,

WLC ¹¹ וַיְהִי֙ כְּהַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה וַיָּבֹ֥א הַבַּ֖יְתָה לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת מְלַאכְתּ֑וֹ וְאֵ֨ין אִ֜ישׁ מֵאַנְשֵׁ֥י הַבַּ֛יִת שָׁ֖ם בַּבָּֽיִת׃

KJV ¹² And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.

LSG ¹² elle le saisit par son vêtement, en disant: Couche avec moi ! Il lui laissa son vêtement dans la main, et s'enfuit au dehors.

MAR ¹² Qu'elle le prit par sa robe, et lui dit : Couche avec moi. Mais il lui laissa sa robe entre les mains, s'enfuit, et sortit dehors.

WLC ¹² וַתִּתְפְּשֵׂ֧הוּ בְּבִגְד֛וֹ לֵאמֹ֖ר שִׁכְבָ֣ה עִמִּ֑י וַיַּעֲזֹ֤ב בִּגְדוֹ֙ בְּיָדָ֔הּ וַיָּ֖נָס וַיֵּצֵ֥א הַחֽוּצָה׃

KJV ¹³ And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,

MAR ¹³ Et lorsqu'elle eut vu qu'il lui avait laissé sa robe entre les mains, et qu'il s'en était fui,

WLC ¹³ וַיְהִי֙ כִּרְאוֹתָ֔הּ כִּֽי־ עָזַ֥ב בִּגְד֖וֹ בְּיָדָ֑הּ וַיָּ֖נָס הַחֽוּצָה׃

KJV ¹⁴ That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:

LSG ¹⁴ elle appela les gens de sa maison, et leur dit: Voyez, il nous a amené un Hébreu pour se jouer de nous. Cet homme est venu vers moi pour coucher avec moi ; mais j'ai crié à haute voix.

KJV ¹⁵ And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out.

MAR ¹⁵ Et sitôt qu'il a ouï que j'ai élevé ma voix, et que j'ai crié, il a laissé son vêtement auprès de moi, il s'est enfui, et est sorti dehors.

KJV ¹⁶ And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home.

MAR ¹⁶ Et elle garda le vêtement de Joseph, jusqu'à ce que son maître fût revenu à la maison.

KJV ¹⁷ And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me:

KJV ¹⁹ And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.

MAR ¹⁹ Et sitôt que le maître de [Joseph] eut entendu les paroles de sa femme, qui lui disait : Ton serviteur m'a fait ce que je t'ai dit, sa colère s'enflamma.

WLC ¹⁹ וַיְהִי֩ כִשְׁמֹ֨עַ אֲדֹנָ֜יו אֶת־ דִּבְרֵ֣י אִשְׁתּ֗וֹ אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבְּרָ֤ה אֵלָיו֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר כַּדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה עָ֥שָׂהּ לִ֖י עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ וַיִּ֖חַר אַפּֽוֹ׃

KJV ²⁰ And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.

LSG ²⁰ Il prit Joseph, et le mit dans la prison, dans le lieu où les prisonniers du roi étaient enfermés: il fut là, en prison.

MAR ²⁰ Et le maître de Joseph le prit, et le mit dans une étroite prison ; dans l'endroit où les prisonniers du Roi étaient renfermés, et il fut là en prison.

KJV ²¹ But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

LSG ²¹ L'Éternel fut avec Joseph, et il étendit sur lui sa bonté. Il le mit en faveur aux yeux du chef de la prison.

MAR ²¹ Mais l'Eternel fut avec Joseph ; il étendit [sa] gratuité sur lui, et lui fit trouver grâce envers le maître de la prison.

WLC ²¹ וַיְהִ֤י יְהוָה֙ אֶת־ יוֹסֵ֔ף וַיֵּ֥ט אֵלָ֖יו חָ֑סֶד וַיִּתֵּ֣ן חִנּ֔וֹ בְּעֵינֵ֖י שַׂ֥ר בֵּית־ הַסֹּֽהַר׃

KJV ²² And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.

LSG ²² Et le chef de la prison plaça sous sa surveillance tous les prisonniers qui étaient dans la prison ; et rien ne s'y faisait que par lui.

MAR ²² Et le maître de la prison mit entre les mains de Joseph tous les prisonniers qui [étaient] dans la prison, et tout ce qu'il y avait à faire, il le faisait.

WLC ²² וַיִּתֵּ֞ן שַׂ֤ר בֵּית־ הַסֹּ֙הַר֙ בְּיַד־ יוֹסֵ֔ף אֵ֚ת כָּל־ הָ֣אֲסִירִ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּבֵ֣ית הַסֹּ֑הַר וְאֵ֨ת כָּל־ אֲשֶׁ֤ר עֹשִׂים֙ שָׁ֔ם ה֖וּא הָיָ֥ה עֹשֶֽׂה׃

KJV ²³ The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.

LSG ²³ Le chef de la prison ne prenait aucune connaissance de ce que Joseph avait en main, parce que l'Éternel était avec lui. Et l'Éternel donnait de la réussite à ce qu'il faisait.

MAR ²³ [Et] le maître de la prison ne revoyait rien de tout ce que [Joseph] avait entre ses mains ; parce que l'Eternel était avec lui, et que l'Eternel faisait prospérer tout ce qu'il faisait.
