KJV ³ And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

OST ³ Et Juda lui répondit: Cet homme nous a expressément protesté et dit: Vous ne verrez point ma face, que votre frère ne soit avec vous.

KJV ⁴ If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food:

KJV ⁵ But if thou wilt not send him, we will not go down: for the man said unto us, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

OST ⁵ Mais si tu ne l'envoies pas, nous n'y descendrons point; car cet homme nous a dit: Vous ne verrez point ma face, que votre frère ne soit avec vous.

VULC ⁵ sin autem non vis, non ibimus : vir enim, ut sæpe diximus, denuntiavit nobis, dicens : Non videbitis faciem meam absque fratre vestro minimo.

KJV ⁶ And Israel said, Wherefore dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother?

OST ⁶ Et Israël dit: Pourquoi m'avez-vous fait ce tort, de déclarer à cet homme que vous aviez encore un frère?

VULC ⁶ Dixit eis Israël : In meam hoc fecistis miseriam, ut indicaretis ei et alium habere vos fratrem.

WLC ⁶ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לָמָ֥ה הֲרֵעֹתֶ֖ם לִ֑י לְהַגִּ֣יד לָאִ֔ישׁ הַע֥וֹד לָכֶ֖ם אָֽח׃

KJV ⁷ And they said, The man asked us straitly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have ye another brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down?

OST ⁷ Et ils répondirent: Cet homme s'est enquis avec soin de nous et de notre parenté, en disant: Votre père vit-il encore? Avez-vous encore un frère? Et nous le lui avons déclaré, d'après ces questions. Pouvions-nous savoir qu'il dirait: Faites descendre votre frère?

VULC ⁷ At illi responderunt : Interrogavit nos homo per ordinem nostram progeniem : si pater viveret : si haberemus fratrem : et nos respondimus ei consequenter juxta id quod fuerat sciscitatus : numquid scire poteramus quod dicturus esset : Adducite fratrem vestrum vobiscum ?

KJV ⁸ And Judah said unto Israel his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.

OST ⁸ Et Juda dit à Israël, son père: Envoie l'enfant avec moi, et nous nous lèverons, et partirons; et nous vivrons et ne mourrons point, ni nous, ni toi, ni nos petits enfants.

KJV ⁹ I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever:

OST ⁹ Je réponds de lui; tu me le redemanderas. Si je ne te le ramène et ne le présente devant ta face, je serai coupable envers toi à toujours.

KJV ¹⁰ For except we had lingered, surely now we had returned this second time.

KJV ¹² And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight:

KJV ¹³ Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man:

KJV ¹⁴ And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.

OST ¹⁴ Et que le Dieu Tout-Puissant vous fasse trouver grâce devant cet homme, qu'il vous relâche votre autre frère, et Benjamin! Et s'il faut que je sois privé d'enfants, que j'en sois privé!

KJV ¹⁵ And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.

KJV ¹⁶ And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, Bring these men home, and slay, and make ready; for these men shall dine with me at noon.

KJV ¹⁷ And the man did as Joseph bade; and the man brought the men into Joseph's house.

KJV ¹⁸ And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph's house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.

OST ¹⁸ Et ces hommes eurent peur de ce qu'on les menait à la maison de Joseph; et ils dirent: C'est à cause de l'argent qui fut remis dans nos sacs la première fois, qu'on nous emmène; c'est pour se jeter, se précipiter sur nous et nous prendre pour esclaves, et se saisir de nos ânes.

VULC ¹⁸ Ibique exterriti, dixerunt mutuo : Propter pecuniam, quam retulimus prius in saccis nostris, introducti sumus : ut devolvat in nos calumniam, et violenter subjiciat servituti et nos, et asinos nostros.

WLC ¹⁸ וַיִּֽירְא֣וּ הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֗ים כִּ֣י הֽוּבְאוּ֮ בֵּ֣ית יוֹסֵף֒ וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ עַל־ דְּבַ֤ר הַכֶּ֙סֶף֙ הַשָּׁ֤ב בְּאַמְתְּחֹתֵ֙ינוּ֙ בַּתְּחִלָּ֔ה אֲנַ֖חְנוּ מֽוּבָאִ֑ים לְהִתְגֹּלֵ֤ל עָלֵ֙ינוּ֙ וּלְהִתְנַפֵּ֣ל עָלֵ֔ינוּ וְלָקַ֧חַת אֹתָ֛נוּ לַעֲבָדִ֖ים וְאֶת־ חֲמֹרֵֽינוּ׃

KJV ¹⁹ And they came near to the steward of Joseph's house, and they communed with him at the door of the house,

KJV ²⁰ And said, O sir, we came indeed down at the first time to buy food:

WLC ²⁰ וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ בִּ֣י אֲדֹנִ֑י יָרֹ֥ד יָרַ֛דְנוּ בַּתְּחִלָּ֖ה לִשְׁבָּר־ אֹֽכֶל׃

KJV ²¹ And it came to pass, when we came to the inn, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, every man's money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight: and we have brought it again in our hand.

OST ²¹ Et lorsque nous arrivâmes à l'hôtellerie, et que nous ouvrîmes nos sacs, voici, l'argent de chacun était à l'entrée de son sac, notre argent selon son poids; et nous l'avons rapporté en nos mains.

VULC ²¹ quibus emptis, cum venissemus ad diversorium, aperuimus saccos nostros, et invenimus pecuniam in ore saccorum : quam nunc eodem pondere reportavimus.

WLC ²¹ וַֽיְהִ֞י כִּי־ בָ֣אנוּ אֶל־ הַמָּל֗וֹן וַֽנִּפְתְּחָה֙ אֶת־ אַמְתְּחֹתֵ֔ינוּ וְהִנֵּ֤ה כֶֽסֶף־ אִישׁ֙ בְּפִ֣י אַמְתַּחְתּ֔וֹ כַּסְפֵּ֖נוּ בְּמִשְׁקָל֑וֹ וַנָּ֥שֶׁב אֹת֖וֹ בְּיָדֵֽנוּ׃

KJV ²² And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food: we cannot tell who put our money in our sacks.

OST ²² Et nous avons apporté d'autre argent en nos mains, pour acheter des vivres; nous ne savons qui avait remis notre argent dans nos sacs.

VULC ²² Sed et aliud attulimus argentum, ut emamus quæ nobis necessaria sunt : non est in nostra conscientia quis posuerit eam in marsupiis nostris.

WLC ²² וְכֶ֧סֶף אַחֵ֛ר הוֹרַ֥דְנוּ בְיָדֵ֖נוּ לִשְׁבָּר־ אֹ֑כֶל לֹ֣א יָדַ֔עְנוּ מִי־ שָׂ֥ם כַּסְפֵּ֖נוּ בְּאַמְתְּחֹתֵֽינוּ׃

KJV ²³ And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.

OST ²³ Et il dit: Tout va bien pour vous! Ne craignez point: C'est votre Dieu, le Dieu de votre père qui vous a donné un trésor dans vos sacs; votre argent m'est parvenu. Et il leur amena Siméon.

KJV ²⁴ And the man brought the men into Joseph's house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender.

OST ²⁴ Et cet homme les fit entrer dans la maison de Joseph; il leur donna de l'eau, et ils lavèrent leurs pieds; il donna aussi du fourrage à leurs ânes.

KJV ²⁵ And they made ready the present against Joseph came at noon: for they heard that they should eat bread there.

OST ²⁵ Et ils préparèrent le présent, en attendant que Joseph vînt à midi; car ils avaient appris qu'ils mangeraient là le pain.

VULC ²⁵ Illi vero parabant munera, donec ingrederetur Joseph meridie : audierant enim quod ibi comesturi essent panem.

WLC ²⁵ וַיָּכִ֙ינוּ֙ אֶת־ הַמִּנְחָ֔ה עַד־ בּ֥וֹא יוֹסֵ֖ף בַּֽצָּהֳרָ֑יִם כִּ֣י שָֽׁמְע֔וּ כִּי־ שָׁ֖ם יֹ֥אכְלוּ לָֽחֶם׃

KJV ²⁶ And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.

OST ²⁶ Joseph revint à la maison. Alors ils lui offrirent dans la maison le présent qu'ils avaient en leurs mains; et ils se prosternèrent en terre devant lui.

WLC ²⁶ וַיָּבֹ֤א יוֹסֵף֙ הַבַּ֔יְתָה וַיָּבִ֥יאּוּ ל֛וֹ אֶת־ הַמִּנְחָ֥ה אֲשֶׁר־ בְּיָדָ֖ם הַבָּ֑יְתָה וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ־ ל֖וֹ אָֽרְצָה׃

KJV ²⁷ And he asked them of their welfare, and said, Is your father well, the old man of whom ye spake? Is he yet alive?

OST ²⁷ Et il leur demanda comment ils se portaient, et il leur dit: Votre vieux père, dont vous m'avez parlé, se porte-t-il bien? Vit-il encore?

VULC ²⁷ At ille, clementer resalutatis eis, interrogavit eos, dicens : Salvusne est pater vester senex, de quo dixeratis mihi ? adhuc vivit ?

WLC ²⁷ וַיִּשְׁאַ֤ל לָהֶם֙ לְשָׁל֔וֹם וַיֹּ֗אמֶר הֲשָׁל֛וֹם אֲבִיכֶ֥ם הַזָּקֵ֖ן אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֲמַרְתֶּ֑ם הַעוֹדֶ֖נּוּ חָֽי׃

KJV ²⁸ And they answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance.

OST ²⁸ Et ils répondirent: Ton serviteur notre père se porte bien; il vit encore. Et ils s'inclinèrent, et se prosternèrent.

WLC ²⁸ וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ שָׁל֛וֹם לְעַבְדְּךָ֥ לְאָבִ֖ינוּ עוֹדֶ֣נּוּ חָ֑י וַֽיִּקְּד֖וּ

KJV ²⁹ And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother's son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son.

OST ²⁹ Et, levant les yeux, il vit Benjamin son frère, fils de sa mère, et dit: Est-ce là votre jeune frère, dont vous m'avez parlé? Et il lui dit: Dieu te fasse miséricorde, mon fils!

VULC ²⁹ Attollens autem Joseph oculos, vidit Benjamin fratrem suum uterinum, et ait : Iste est frater vester parvulus, de quo dixeratis mihi ? Et rursum : Deus, inquit, misereatur tui, fili mi.

WLC ²⁹ וַיִּשָּׂ֣א עֵינָ֗יו וַיַּ֞רְא אֶת־ בִּנְיָמִ֣ין אָחִיו֮ בֶּן־ אִמּוֹ֒ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר הֲזֶה֙ אֲחִיכֶ֣ם הַקָּטֹ֔ן אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֲמַרְתֶּ֖ם אֵלָ֑י וַיֹּאמַ֕ר אֱלֹהִ֥ים יָחְנְךָ֖ בְּנִֽי׃

KJV ³⁰ And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there.

OST ³⁰ Et Joseph se hâta, car ses entrailles étaient émues pour son frère, et il chercha un lieu pour pleurer; et il entra dans la chambre intérieure et y pleura.

VULC ³⁰ Festinavitque, quia commota fuerant viscera ejus super fratre suo, et erumpebant lacrimæ : et introiens cubiculum flevit.

WLC ³⁰ וַיְמַהֵ֣ר יוֹסֵ֗ף כִּֽי־ נִכְמְר֤וּ רַחֲמָיו֙ אֶל־ אָחִ֔יו וַיְבַקֵּ֖שׁ לִבְכּ֑וֹת וַיָּבֹ֥א הַחַ֖דְרָה וַיֵּ֥בְךְּ שָֽׁמָּה׃

KJV ³¹ And he washed his face, and went out, and refrained himself, and said, Set on bread.

OST ³¹ Puis il se lava le visage et sortit; et, se faisant violence, il dit: Servez le pain.

VULC ³¹ Rursumque lota facie egressus, continuit se, et ait : Ponite panes.

KJV ³² And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

OST ³² Et on le servit à part, et eux à part; et les Égyptiens qui mangeaient avec lui furent aussi servis à part, parce que les Égyptiens ne peuvent manger le pain avec les Hébreux; car c'est une abomination pour les Égyptiens.

VULC ³² Quibus appositis, seorsum Joseph, et seorsum fratribus, Ægyptiis quoque qui vescebantur simul, seorsum (illicitum est enim Ægyptiis comedere cum Hebræis, et profanum putant hujuscemodi convivium)

WLC ³² וַיָּשִׂ֥ימוּ ל֛וֹ לְבַדּ֖וֹ וְלָהֶ֣ם לְבַדָּ֑ם וְלַמִּצְרִ֞ים הָאֹכְלִ֤ים אִתּוֹ֙ לְבַדָּ֔ם כִּי֩ לֹ֨א יוּכְל֜וּן הַמִּצְרִ֗ים לֶאֱכֹ֤ל אֶת־ הָֽעִבְרִים֙ לֶ֔חֶם כִּי־ תוֹעֵבָ֥ה הִ֖וא לְמִצְרָֽיִם׃

KJV ³³ And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth: and the men marvelled one at another.

OST ³³ Ils s'assirent donc en sa présence, l'aîné selon son droit d'aînesse, et le plus jeune selon son âge. Et ces hommes se regardaient l'un l'autre avec étonnement.

WLC ³³ וַיֵּשְׁב֣וּ לְפָנָ֔יו הַבְּכֹר֙ כִּבְכֹ֣רָת֔וֹ וְהַצָּעִ֖יר כִּצְעִרָת֑וֹ וַיִּתְמְה֥וּ הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים אִ֥ישׁ אֶל־ רֵעֵֽהוּ׃

KJV ³⁴ And he took and sent messes unto them from before him: but Benjamin's mess was five times so much as any of their's. And they drank, and were merry with him.

OST ³⁴ Et il leur fit porter des mets de devant lui; mais la portion de Benjamin était cinq fois plus grosse que les portions de tous les autres; et ils burent et firent bonne chère avec lui.

VULC ³⁴ sumptis partibus quas ab eo acceperant : majorque pars venit Benjamin, ita ut quinque partibus excederet. Biberuntque et inebriati sunt cum eo.
